XCDROAST X-CDROAST X-CD-ROAST cdrecord.proDVD - how to burn a DVD?!

Hi guys!
I would like to use X-CD-ROAST 0.98 alpha 15
with a powerbook 15" and OS X.4.5
to burn some DVDs.
The handling with the CD burning tools is very well, but the DVD function is disabled!
"cdrecord-prodvd-2.01.01-powerpc-apple-macosx1.4"
named as
"cdrecord.prodvd"
is in usr/local/lib/bin/xcdroast-0.98/bin
performed "chmod 755 cdrecord.prodvd"
Only CD options are working after starting "xcdroast" from "usr/local/bin"
Performed "Rescan" and filled in a key from Feb. 2006:
8:dvd,clone:sparc-sun-solaris2,i386-pc-solaris2,i586-pc-linux,x8664-unknown-linux,x86_64-pc-linux,powerpc-apple,hppa,powerpc-ibm-aix,i386-unknown -freebsd,i386-unknown-openbsd,i386-unknown-netbsd,powerpc-apple-netbsd,i386-pc-b sdi,mips-sgi-irix,i386-pc-sco,i586-pc-cygwin,i586-pc-beos:1.11::1170000000:::pri vate/research/educational_non-commercialuse:7.YjWqAwHb8u/twYtVoFOpvTrSQQO7j5ps78G.STLd/xz22BABAS6Z82rb4
Then an error occurs: to use DVD function, first proDVD should be installed! But I already did it, isn't it!?
Perhaps somebody could help me using xcdroast for burning DVDs ...
greetings, Rod.

Have you looked at this web page: http://www.xcdroast.de/#links and after reading the FAQ's/manual, contacted either of the two people at the links provided?

    Hello Haythammorsy,
    I recently got cdrecord-prodvd working, I found that my burner defaulted to -tao (track at once) but the burner did not like that format so by adding the -dao or -sao (they are the same per cdrecord man page) I was able to get DVD data written to the drive.
    I am using a Sony drive it is an older first series DVD burner drive. Your error message noted that -tao was being used so I thought I would post.
    Thanks
    Geoff

  • Networking and Internet

    Hello, how do I get my help request posted? I tried on Sept. 14 and it did not post.
    I decided to finally Solaris in my Windows based computer, Installed a new hard drive for that purpose and after a long hard work I finally got it working, I am still surprised at how hard it is to even open the CD-ROM to view the contents. I could not find a place to tell me how to burn a DVD after I download a file fro the Sun site, so those Iso files became useless to me.
    I now have tried hard to connect my second computer in a network under Solaris (both computers are connected under Windows XP no problem there). I cannot access the Internet from a Solaris Session. My connection is perfect in the Windows XP environment?
    Would some one help me with this? I would be grateful for that help.
    Urbano Oseguera

    Learning Solaris is a great thing!
    There is a "cdrw" command that can make life easy. For example:
    cdrw -lLooking for CD devices...
    Node Connected Device Device type
    /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s2 | HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B 1.04 | CD Reader/Writer
    At the very least you can find the device associated with the cd/dvd!
    So you can mount a hsfs cd/dvd (assuming /cdrom exists!):
    # mount -F hsfs /dev/dsk/c0t3d0s2 /cdrom
    Of course your system will have a different device than my example.
    To burn a cd/dvd - use the man page associated with cdrw. You can also search google for "cdrecord".
    Networking: I prefer static dhcp. Especially if you have a home network with a 4 port cable/dsl router that supports static dhcp.
    Find out what your network device is - "ifconfig" should help
    Your /etc/hosts file should only have loopback entry only, no other ip addresses except those dhcp (will) place.
    To configure DHCP, assuming you setup static dhcp on a specific IP address of your choosing:
    For example - let's say your network device is iprb0
    as root:
    # touch /etc/hostname.iprb0
    # touch /etc/dhcp.iprb0
    # ifconfig iprb0 dhcp start
    # ifconfig -a
    You should see an IP address assigned to iprb0 (assuming again!)
    Just make sure dhcp service is offered by your router - otherwise it won't work. Why static - well - you don't have too, but if you want to use your solaris system as a http server and you don't want to hardcode IP addresses.

    I tried it both with cdrkit and cdrtools and also tried it with the dvd burner in my computer as well as this one (an external).  Anyone able to point me in the right direction on this one?
    edit: if it helps diagnose the problem, I just tried testing with a dvd-rw and that burns perfectly, but the dvd-r starts to burn then errors out as above

    Huh, I thought it was in testing... Oops!
    I have tried all speeds from 12x(?) up to 40x/auto. Every i3b burn fails at the beginning (before burning actually starts!) with that error. I can't say for sure that the wodim burn was 100% perfect yet, but I know that it did work -- I listened to the first ten seconds of a few tracks. The DVDs that I've recently burned with growisofs all work as well. The last video DVD that I burned worked, but that could have been before the update.

  • Can't burn .ISO image with k3b/brasero on DVD-RW disc.

    I don't understand what's going wrong here, so I hope someone can help me.
    I have created an .ISO image (of a video) using DVDstyler.
    (1) DVDstyler will burn it to a DVD-RW without any problems.
    (2) I can burn it from the command line (growisofs etc.)
    (3) I can burn it to a DVD-R from any application (DVDstyler, K3b, Brasero)
    K3B and Brasero will write data to a DVD-RW any without problems
    But, when I try to burn the dvd.iso to a DVD-RW disc with either k3b or Brasero, they fail with various  error messages.
    For example, K3B's debugging output is as follows

    Something strange is happening lately. Burning apps can't see blank discs. It doesn't matter if I have cdrkit or cdrtools installed - neither works.
    Graveman hangs on start when blank DVD is in tray.
    Brasero doesn't see my device and allow only to create ISO images.
    cdrecord -minfo fails, with empty DVD-R present in tray:
    sudo cdrecord -minfo

    I'm in optical group and . Thunar successfully mounts DVD with written content and cdrecord -minfo also gives me information about present media when it's not empty.
    Is there anything I can do?

    It's supposed to be in kernel, right? Besides, it was never necessary for me to install external driver, months ago burning DVD discs with tools using cdrkit/cdrtools/dvd+rw-tools wasn't a problem.
    I even though that lack of libdvdread package was causing this... but having it installed doesn't help either (as expected - it's just for DVD-Video discs).
    EDIT: I've also tried dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/sr0 - doesn't work.
    cdrecord have no problems recognizing empty CD-R medium, so it's happening with DVD discs only.

  • Creating an ISO file from a bunch of BUP, IFO, VOB files

    Hi
    First, i want to apologize to all of you if my question is already answered somewhere, i did a search before.
    I have a bunch of BUP, IFO, VOB files (from an entire DVD) that i would like to burn into a single .ISO file.
    I am looking for the best software to do this. I would have used ImgBurn on my PC i guess... But with my iMac?
    Thanks a lot for your much appreciated help!

    Mopito wrote:

    Yes, the question has been answered before, several times.
    The only difference is that you want to create an ISO image, which usually means a raw disk image from another OS (eg, Win or Linux), although Mac OS X can attach or burn such an image.
    If you want to create a DVD-Video disc image, then you must use a tool specifically designed for it, if you want to use the image to create DVDs which will play in stand-alone DVD players. That's because such DVDs require a rigid disc layout.
    If you want to go commercial, you can use Toast or NTI DragonBurn. Otherwise, Burn, suggested by Alberto Ravasiomay also be a good solution (I'm not sure if it can save disc images, rather than burn them). Other solutions are
    DVD Image Utility
    <http://geek.thinkunique.org/2007/07/17/dvd-image-utility/>
    or, if you can handle the command line,
    mkisofs
    <http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html>
    (part of the cdrtools kit)
    You can also have a look at
    Disco
    <http://discoapp.com/>
    LiquidCD
    <http://www.maconnect.ch/>
    Both can burn DVD-Video; I'm not sure if they can save as a disc image.
    J D McIninch wrote:
    Start Disk Utility
    DU (or hdiutil) can create an ISO image, and, if it's used to burn to DVD, the disc can be played on computer DVD drives. But it will not play on most stand-alone DVD players, because of the layout issue I mentioned above. Hence, it's not a good idea to use it to create a DVD-Video disc image.

  • Burning a DVD from FCP Pro (relation between QT and IDVD)

    When encoding and burning a DVD with IDVD from a QTime file (exported from Final Cut Pro plain QT uncompressed export), do I need to pay attention to the QuickTime Player settings? For example, the codec is automatically set on H.264, does it make any difference on the IDVD encoding process to choose another codec or to check the box : best quality? Thank you for your answer, BF from FCP Pro

    DVDs use an MPEG-2 codec, so regardless of which codec FCP uses to compress the Quicktime file, it will end up as MPEG-2 when you burn to DVD. So as long as the video preview plays in iDVD, you should be fine just using the "Best Quality" setting.
    If you are really concerned about the quality, you can also try exporting the video using Compressor and authoring the DVD in DVD Studio Pro. It's a bit more complicated, but the results are worth learning the software.
    Hope this helps.

  • HOWTO and script: create and burn an UDF image with 4+GB files

    Most people think, creating UDF images with files bigger than 4GB or even 1GB is impossible, however it's not true! You just need udftools. Also you need to load loop and udf modules. There's a good howto by grigio, I also created an (admitably pretty poor) script to do it automatically, since grigio's howto doesn't include real dvd sizes:
    UDFPATH=$HOME
    echo -e "By default the udf image will be placed into your home directory. \n Do you want to enter an alternative one? (Enter y or n)"
    read yesorno

    If you're looking for simpler, cheaper, or open-source apps, try
    DVD Image Utility
    <http://geek.thinkunique.org/2007/07/17/dvd-image-utility/>
    Disco
    <http://discoapp.com/>
    no longer supported, but free, simple, and runs well under SL.
    LiquidCD
    <http://www.maconnect.ch/>
    free; iffy support, but, again, simple, and runs well under SL.
    Burn
    <http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html>
    open source; not clear how active development and support are, but runs well under SL.
    If you are a Terminal kind of guy, get
    mkisofs
    <http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html>
    (part of the cdrtools kit)
    Use mkisofs to create the disc image, and burn it with hdiutil or drutil. (Some of the free options mentioned above actually use mkisofs.)
    Keep in mind that the list above is by no means exhaustive.

  • "Medium Write Error" when trying to burn DVD

    i have recently been receiving the message "medium write error" every time I try to burn a DVD in my mac book pro 13 inch  It doesn't matter which program I use to burn, they all give me the same (or similar) message. I also tried booting into Windows and burning from there using ImgBrn it and it was
    succeed
    the program went from "preparing disk" to writing to  "finishing", ejected the disk and made the usual error and it looks like it don't start writing as when i put the dvd back the dvd is still empty
    I used to burn these disks perfectly well with no problems, before i install lion i don't know if this is lion problem or what
    i also tried to attempt to reset the PRAM.  by holding down CMD+Option+P+R while booting MBP and waiting until it chimes a second time to let go of those keys.i haven't changed anything so don't understand why the error occurs. I've bought a lens cleaner disk and ran that for 2-3 minutes and repaired permissions on the HD but that didn't work either. The drive works flawlessly reading DVDs and CDs with no problem no problems.
    any one can help please ????

    Sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand this.
    It doesn't matter which program I use to burn, they all give me the same (or similar) message.
    The problem is that it's not relevant if the programmes use the same burn engine (eg, iTunes and Finder). You need to test apps which do not use Apple's burn engine, eg, cdrdao, cdrecord, Burn, LiquidCD, Disco, Roxio Toast, NTI DragonBurn, etc. But, FWIW, my bet is not on a software issue.
