Xcelsius 2008 XLF to Export SWF to BO Enterprise

Dear Folks,
While Exporting from Xcelsius to BO Enterprise we need to select folder in which we want the file to be exported.
We need to click on it using mouse to select it.
Is there any way to provide path in which the file will be exported.
I tried by putting / in folder structure but still it exports the file with that name instead of exporting the file inside those folders.
Detailed Explanation:  I have a list of file and their location in my BO structure.
I want to export it by giving the path instead of selecting the required folder by mouse.
Please help me out.
Regards,
Deepak

Hi Deepak,
I doubt if this is possible. Probably because when you save doecument on BO, the document is saved under a folder or category. Also, there is no restriction of special characters like "\" in file name so even using slash in file names will not tell BO to save the document in desired folder. It would save the document with the "\" in its name.

Dhanesh

  • Xcelsius 2008 will not export to PDF at ver higher than 5.3.2.0

At the begining of this process I was using 5.3.0.0. When I read posts about SP4 I decided to go ahead and upgrade. As soon as I did I could no longer export dashboards to a PDF file. After many deletes and re-installs I discovered that if I tried to upgrade past ver 5.3.2.0 the export to PDF would break. I also tried the trial of Presentation 2011 and had the same thing happen - no ability to export to a PDF. I have duplicated this behavior on two different machines. An XP Pro box and a Windows 7 laptop. The error I get from Acrobat talks about a trust issue with a document. I have a screen shot of the error.

Just found the answer on the BOB forum. It is permissions in Acrobat.
Go to > Edit > Preferences > Multimedia Trust (legacy)
Select the "Other Documents" radio button and highlight "Permission for Adobe (R) Flash (R) Player is set to . . ."
Then change the drop down selection to "Always"
After doing this I upgraded my software to SP4 and all works.

  • Unable to export to PowerPoint from Xcelsius 2008

Xcelsius 2008 does not export to Powerpoint, it doesn't do anything.  I have clicked on the button to export and tried going to the File - Export to - . . .  but nothing happens.
    Please assist.

    David,
I've read the Xcelsius2008_release_notes_en.pdf on the installation disc.  (especially when going to Adobe's articles for Flash 8 & 9) A lot of reading, most of which I do not understand but get the jest of it.  I must say that I do not think that this is the 'problem' here. I do not get any 'warnings' of any kind that it cannot do that function.
At first when I tried to export from Xcelsius 2008 into Powerpoint it would not do anything as you may recall.  Then when I opened up the Task Manager it started working.  (NOTE:  when I hover my mouse icon over the export buttons in Xcelsius usually this pops up a bubble stating 'what' it would do if I click on the button.  There are only two buttons where something displays when I hover my mouse and those are  "Export to Outlook and Export to Business Objects Platform".  None of the other buttons seem to have this bubble.
Now I am trying to export to Powerpoint again with another file and it opens Powerpoint but the screen is blank and there is no view slideshow option.  It will however let me export to just a plain 'swf' format.  Which is not acceptable for our purposes.  My boss said I should UNINSTALL Xcelsius 2008 and REinstall it again.
    Any solutions or ideas???????

  • Xcelsius 2008 FP2 won't export to swf

    Hello,
I can not get Xcelsius to preview or export to swf.  The progress bar labelled "Generating swft" displays for approximately 3-5 minutes until Xcelsius.exe finally crashes and the app closes.  I'm running Xcelsius 2008 SP1 with FP2, Live Office XI R2 and Flash 10 (lastest version).  I've also looked at the Flash security as described in other forum posts and that does not appear to be the issue.
The .xlf I'm working with was successfully completed and published to Crystalreports.com and is working fine.  The problems began when two additional Live Office connections were added to allow for some additional data points in the next release of the dashboard.  The data model now contains a few hundred more rows and a few hundred forumlas causing the Excel file to increase to just under 1MB.  The total number of rows of data return in all Live Office connections combine are just over 1,000 rows.  The max # rows setting in Xcelsius is set to 2,000.  The formula cells added to the data model are fairly simple formulas that were successfully used in the data model previously (ISERROR, INDEX, MATCH).
On occasion, Xcelsius will give the message box "Your range has been reduced to the maximum rows allowed" before crashing.
Acting on this message I have removed the new Live Office connections, but the message/crashing continues.  I have now scaled back the # of Live Office connections and # of formula cells way back to a very small number.  the data model is now very small and quickly imports into Xcelsius yet the same message/crashing continues.  I have verified that the data model currently in Xcelsius is the most recent, very small version of the data model, but Xcelsius still behaves like the large 1MB data model is present.
I don't know if this is even a # rows/data model size issue or a config/bug issue.  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
I've read the PDF on FP3, but don't see this scenario listed.  Might FP3 help?  I need to be FP3 is compatible with publishing swf files to Crystalreports.com which is a BOE XI R2 platform.

thanks for the quick advice.  so we can scale back the data to within 512 rows by splitting this into 2 dashboards.  Not ideal, but shouldl be acceptable.
The data is already pre-aggregated.  The data sources for this data model are crystal reports that are published in Crystalreports.com and refreshed nightly against a 3rd party API.  Virtually all of the formulas required in Excel are used to line up rows of data that are being pulled in from 2 seperate live office queries.  All of the required data points could not be included in a single crystal report so 2 are needed and the rows matched up in Excel using an INDEX(MATCH) formula.  We are not using any unsupported functions or VLOOKUP per the advice of an Xcelsius best practice document I located in this forum.  I'm open to any suggestions on better techniques to align related rows of data from two seperate ranges in Excel so they essentially appear as though they came from a single data source.
I am starting to lean toward the # of formulas in the data model as being the issue and have added fitlers to the live office query to cut the # of rows to only 20% of what was originally being retrieved.  The # of formulas were also reduced by the same percentage.  However, when trying to preview or export to swf, Xcelsius still gives the same message that the range was reduced to the max allowed and then crashes.  It's as if Xcelsius is still seeing the old data model.  Perhaps something is being cached that isn't clearing out?  Even a full remove and re-install of Xcelsius SP1, Live Office and FP2 has had no affect.  Maybe we need to build a new .xlf from scratch?
    thanks

  • Updating data in Xcelsius 2008 Export from Excel Spreadsheet

    Xcelsius 2008 newbie question....
I have created a Xcelsius export (.swf) that display my data. However it appears the data is static after exporting.
I am at a loss as to how you force it to update/refresh using the connections used in the excel.
Am I missing something? I cannot find a straight answer, do need LiveOffice?
How do I have an (.swf) export file that refreshes data itself????

The easiest way to get data to update in your swf is to create a connection in the Data Manager.  After the connection is setup you can add a connection refresh button to allow the swf viewer to trigger that connection.
To get data to refresh automatically, you can setup the connection to trigger or update on interval.

  • Data refreshed when preview in XLF but not refreshed in exported SWF

    Hi,,
I have an XML file linked to Exel which is the source of an XLF file. All connections are OK and I am able to see the latest data are being refreshed when I preview the XLF file. But when I exported the XLF file to SWF file, the error 2048 occured and the data is not refreshed at all.
I have put the SWF file in the Global Security Settings Panel (Always Allow list) and also checked the Every Time I visit the webpage under the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings.
Anything else I need to do..can someone help?

    Hi
Error 2048 is usually caused by two main reasons.
One -  the global security settings are not set to allow files from the desired folder to be accessed.  Check that you have added the source folder(s) for your data to the list "allows trust files in this location" under Adobe's online settings manager.
Two - you're trying to access a file on a domain that is different from the one you're running the swf file on. For this you need a crossdomain file added to the root folder of the server you're trying to access.
So your crossdomain.xml should look like this
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
    <cross-domain-policy>
    <allow-http-request-headers-from domain="" headers="" secure="false" />
    <allow-access-from domain="*" secure="false" />
    </cross-domain-policy>

    xcelsius 2008 5.4.0.0  build 12,4,0,1166 --
working on a xlf file - save it -- go to reopen it and get a blank canvas -- look in object browser and ALL objects are missing - none showing
did the resedit thing removing the en file --
rebooted windows and xcelsius several times
tried to go into preview mode -- nothing there
tried doing an export to html and viewing html -- nothing there
other observations --indicating it may not be the "typical flash" issue
#1 - other XLF files open and objects are there and act and behave normally
#2 - other html files etc all operate fine
somehow something is corrupted - had a wierd thing when i started up - it showed the split screen components were there etc -- but then the program seemed to crash - and then the sap window came up and it started up again - there might have been a warning that it was busy or retry or something --   that is the only thing i noticed
using newer components -- bubble chart  - but nothing really out of the ordinary
please help - would hate to rebuild -- DO have the underlying data in xlf and exported it to xls  so im safe there
    thanks

With SP1 and FP3 this issue is resolved. Closing thread.

  • Xcelsius (SWFfile) performance after exporting to Business objects platform

    Hello,
I am facing a problem wherein the SWF file takes time (almost 1-2min) to load the refreshed data in Infoview portal
i.e. after exporting the xlf file to Business Objects platform.
    Following are the system details:
    1) Business Objects XI Release 3.1
    2) Xcelcius Engage/Enterprise 2008 SP3 Windows (file name: 51038212.ZIP) version 5.3.0.0 build number 12,3,0,670.
    Following are the dashboard details:
    1)2 tab sets
    2)column charts
    3)combo boxes
    4)spreadsheet tables
5)quite a few images and logos embeded
In the xlf file, we have used the Refresh on load option in
Data manager so that the dashboard (SWF File) takes the latest WebI report instance when opened in Infoview portal.
The SWF file is approximately 2MB in size and it uses 42 live office connections.
Also I had read in few blogs that vlookup function is not the ideal function to be used in the excel datasheet and instead INDEX/MATCH
can be used to improve performance. Is it true? I have tried using INDEX/MATCH function for few charts but doesn't show any performance improvement.
Please suggest solution as to how to decrease the time it takes to refresh the live office connections and display the SWF file in Infoview portal.
    Cheers
    Lee

    Hi Lee,
2 MB is quite heavy for a swf file. I think you should split this file in different parent-child flash files using the swf loader component and opendoc.
    Look at this forums:
For "parent-child" on XI 3.1 with parameters and LiveOffice refresh in the child swf:
    [Calling Dashboards from Dashboards in Xcelsius 2008;
You can have more information about pareht-child xcelsius at the official documentation in SAP markeplace.
    I hope this helps.

  • XCelsius 2008 is not backward compatible with ver 4.5

    Post Author: Joseph
CA Forum: Xcelsius and Live Office
I tried opening a project that was done with ver 4.5 but it just said that "Crystal Xcelsius is unable to load this file. This file may be corrupt or may have features that cannot be supported by this version of Crystal Xcelsius." So i guess I probably have to recreate the project in the 2008 version to take advantage of the new features available. So I imported the excel datasheet used in the old project to a new project in Xcelsius 2008 and tried recreating the objects from scratch. I had started with an accordion menu and two list boxes and then I decided to export to swf to test. However, the result was disappointing. I could only see the two list boxes but not the accordion menu. There was a message saying "Initializing..." that stayed. Does this mean I have to recreate the excel data from scratch as well?

X2008 is backward compatible with CX4.5.  But Jim is correct. There is a bug in X2008 which prevents it from opening some 4.5 models by double-clicking on the filename.  They can be opened from the File > Open menu.  This only affects opening the model.Due to the many changes between CX4.5 and X2008, the migration of old CX4.5 models is not clean.  Differences will be seen.  Most are cosmetic affecting only the look of the model.  But some tidy up, color changes and re-alignment work must be done.   There was no way to gain the benefits of X2008 and still keep CX4.5 models unchanged.Andy

  • How to export swf file in different versions of flash like (6,7,8,9) ?

    Hi,
        System Specification :
        -XP with SP3
        -MS Office 2003
        -Flash V.10
        -Xcelsius Engage 2008 ( 5.3.0.0 )
        -Xcelsius Build number 12,3,0,670
When I export output in swf format then xcelsius generating swf file of version 9.  I want to export swf file in different versions of flash like (6,7,8,9) .  I tried to install older versions of flash to do this but I am not able to open xcelsius in older version. I am getting error saying 'Install latest flash player'.
Is there any way to export  swf files in different  versions?
Is this build is compatible with only flash 10?
    Thanks,

Xcelsius only support Flash version from 9 on. There is no way to export to 6,7 or 8.

  • Error Opening Adobe PDF created with Xcelsius 2008

I am using an SAP Product - Xcelsius 2008 to create a dashboard that I exported to PDF.  The document essentially contains a Flash SWF file embedded in the PDF.  I can open it up fine with my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.  Some of my colleagues can open it up using Adobe Reader.  Many recipients who have a older version of Adobe Acrobat get an error stating:  "This file appears to use a new format that this version of Acrobat does not support.  It may not open or display correctly.  Adobe recommends that you upgrade to the latest version o four Acrobat products.  Please visit our product site at http://www.adobe.com/acrobat."  My question is, is there a way to resave the PDF file as an older, more compatible version for people who have Acrobat 8 or earlier versions?
    Troy

Version 8 should work, but not earlier, since they did not have an internal flash player.

  • Xcelsius 2008 crash / drwatson when trying to preview... hacky solution.

Been having a bit of a headache (more than usual) with the pain in the [arse/butt/fanny] we know and love as Xcelsius '08.
On a few of our XLF's, the files were opening perfectly, but when you click preview it either just simply died with a Xcelsius error (leaving a couple of excel.exes's in its wake) or Mr Watson makes an appearance and tries to do some debugging.  Either way the file is all but useless.
One simple(ish) workaround is to create a new blank XLF and export import your spreadsheet and copy/paste your components across from old to new.  This seems to do the trick - though itu2019s not quite as simple as youu2019d like as some components tend to forget colours on copy paste and images tend to screw up.  Also your layout is off set by ten or so pixels on each axis which is all rather annoying and time consuming.
A bit of hacking the XLF file has turned up the cause of the Bug.  It seems that if components are sourced from other files (again with copy paste action) they can become corrupt over time (no idea why!) and basically corrupt the XML structure of your XLF file in a really simple way - the change the components colour scheme to one that does not match the overall XLF file - this exception is handled in typical bad grace weu2019ve come to love in 2008 and it bombs out.
So if youu2019re feeling brave and want to get around the bug without recreating your work or copy/pasting as above here's the workaround...
Make a backup of your XLF. Please!
Rick click you .XLF and click Send To.
Select Winzip (browse for it if not a default).
Youu2019ll be presented with a list of files.  document.xml is the one we are interested in.
Youu2019ll also see a version of you XLS file (xldoc) and images youu2019ve put in image components and selected "embed".
Right click document.xml and select Edit with NOTEPAD.EXE (you may need to be patient here depending on number of components!)
What youre after is the <colorScheme> tag at the highest level of the XML structure.  Near the top for me   hereu2019s the first few lines from one of my filesu2026
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <CXCanvas guid="511745753-25300-4573-188-201-412442191122451" width="1000" height="600"><component id="BOA7690C68EC7741B0956C3096FB1214E5" className="xcelsius.display.BackgroundComponent" styleName="background04Skin" displayName="Background 1"><colorScheme>BOF04E18CD488C482CA442FDFD0B286C59</colorScheme><properties>
Copy the long string between the <colorScheme> and </colorScheme> tags.  These are of course hex colour codes.
Next do a find in your document for u201C</colourScheme>u201D check the string before it is the same as the first one you found.  Keep doing this all the way through the document.  If you find any that differ you probably have the same problem I had u2013 if not back to the drawing board u2013 sorry!
Any you find different change to the proper value.
When your done save and close notepad.
Then click in the winzip window u2013 it should say some thing like u201CFile C:\testcrap\document.xml has changed since it was last extracted. Update archive with this file?u201D
Say yes, and close the winzip.
Now open your XLF in Xcelsius and preview u2013 hopefully no more crash.
Hope thatu2019s of some useu2026 and remember, hacking XML is not at all part of the Xcelsius supported workflow u2013 but crappy parsers call for crappy hacks
    Keep a backup,
    Cheers,

    Javier,
I would like to think the problem is with the machine as well, but it has ocurred on Windows XP and Windows Vista.
My Windows Vista is a brand new computer, with nothing but the OS (and whatever Toshiba has put in it), Office and Xcelsius.
Right now I am building a Virtual PC machine with only Windows 2K3 and Office 2K3 installed on it. I will download all the patches and all the updates from Microsoft for it, but nothing else. I will then install Xcelsius and see if the problem persists.
I have run Xcelsius logged as the admin and as a user and the problem happens regardles.
Do you think it could be with the free trial version of the software? What is the version of the MFC80U.DLL you use? My version is 8.0.50727.1833
I have been impressed with what the software can do, but I am not too impressed with the way the software works.

  • Can't get Preview to work in Xcelsius 2008

My system crashes everytime I try to reun Preview in Xcelsius 2008.  I am running Windows XP and Office 2007.  I have installed all critical updates.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flashpoint.  When I hit Preview the system starts to generate the SWF and then I get the very polite message - Xcelsius.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  Meanwhile the SWF is still trying to generate.  When I "click here" to get more information I get:
    AppName:xcelsius.exe
    AppVer. 1.1.0.3
    ModName: msvcr80.dll
    ModVer: 8.0.50727.1433
    Offset:0008aa0
If I hit debug my computer goes into never never land and I have to reboot.  If I hit close then Xcelsius closes but then  Excel connection does not.  I either get the message "Problem Assesing Excel:Exiting" or "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources".  If I go to the task manager and exit Excel manually then I can reopen Xcelsius but I still can't run it.

Okay I've tried a couple of things since I posted this original question.  Starting with once again uninstalling and reinstalling Xcelsius and Flashpoint.  Based on your question I tried all the export options - it crashes everytime.  The problem must be in generating the SWF.  If I start with the blank page and blank excel it'll let me go to preview.  If I open one of your example files it'll work.  If I open any of the files I built in 4.5 it crashes.  If I just import in one of my excel files and leave the canvas blank it crashes.  Kind of suggests it's an excel problem or an interface problem.  I do notice it doesn't matter if I'm importing an 2003 .xls file, a 2007 compatible .xls file, or a 2007 .xlsx I get the same incompatibly box before it'll import.
The spreadsheet I'm wokring off from works fine in 4.5 Professional

  • Xcelsius 2008 Dashbord not working

    Hi,
We have BI Dashboards integrated to CRM portal via OpenDocs and using flash variables in Dashboard designer. Current version details are: BO XI 3.1 SP6 (earlier version was BO XI 3.1 SP3), and Xcelsius 2008 build on top of QAAWS>BO Universe>BEx queries (BW).
The SWF executable which is already published in the existing non-prod and prod environment is working fine via CRM Portal or OpenDocs URL directly. There are few dashboard/ report parameters which CRM / OpenDoc passes to these dashboards using flash variables.
Issue: We are trying to restore Dashboard XLF (Source code) in all the environments, since they were not published earlier. However, while doing so, we are getting MDX error (RSTT trace is showing that parameters are not getting passed on to the BW side for execution). We are passing dummy parameters in flash variable section to test dashboard functionality via designer. Why is it the case that executable (SWF) is working fine, but source code (XLF) is not.

Yes i did that and entered my details, i am able to log in to the CMS server but the SAVE button does not work

  • XCelsius 2008 - result file performance

    Hi.
We have problem with performance of swf-file generated by Xcelsius 2008.
In Xcelsius 4.5 we designed dashboard. Exported swf-file works good and fast. But when we export this dashboard using Xcelsius 2008, the result swf-file works too slow. After changing parameters we waiting about 20-30 sec for charts changig.
Why so different perfomanse the same dashboard on two version of Xcelsius? Where is the problem?

I have never worked on the older version of Xcelsius so i would suggest if possible can you export the Excel file from the older version and develop new dashboard in 2008? you wont need to do too much as you will have the exported version of Excel model!
i am not sure what else can be done
