Xcelsius BI connection

Hi Experts,
Can please guide me how to configure BI server in Xcelsius, if possible please give step by step process. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Srinivasu.Y

Hi Srinivasu,
I am on trial version of Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 SP3.  And I am able to connect SAP BI directly with XCelsius.
NOTE: your SAP BI should be on EHP1 SP5 to have this direct connectivity.
I suggest you to go through the blog /people/rashmi.gurjar/blog/2009/11/18/connecting-sap-bi-directly-with-xcelsius-2008
The step by step procedure for the connectivity is explained in this blog.  If you don't get SP2, then also it is OK as you would get Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 SP3.  All required pre-requisites are explained in this blog.
Do you get any error while connecting it?  If so, do let me know the error and we'll try to find solution for the same.
This blog also contains the link to another blog where it has explained other two types of connectivites like QAAWS & Live Office.
For QAAWS connectivity, you need -
1.  Business Object Enterprise 3.1 XI
2.  Build universe using Universe designer
3.  Build a query on this univers in WEBI
4.  Connect this query in Xcelsius using "QAAWS" connectivity.
Instead, I suggest you to try for direct connectivity as explained in the blog mentioned above.
Hope this helps.

Rashmi

  • Xcelsius 2008 Connect to universe

    Hi:
I m is the fresh in BO area.  I install the BusinessObjects XI 3.1  and Xcelsius 2008,
I create universe , and develop same Webi report in the infoview.
now ,  i wanna use  Xcelsius 2008 connect to universe ,
then  use  universe as the dataSource.
but when i open Xcelsius 2008 click  File--Open from platform ,can not find any universe folder in it.
and  not find any related connection about universe  in "Data Manager"
what can i do . thx

    Hi ,
You can not open any universe files using xcelsius 2008.We can just connect to universe using live office from excel and we can fire a query same as Qwaas. The option you are trying to open can open only xcelsius file that was saved in BOE platform. In dashboard design[Xcelsius latest version] which is launched recently can connect directly to universe to fire query directly without using live office.
If you want  to get the data from universe without using Qwaas you can create a query in universe using live office.
In Xcelsius go to Excel and click on  live office tab and click on universe query. It will open the universe objects, using those objects you can create a query.
Note: To use live office, you need to install microsoft live office. You can download it from  sap service market place.

  • Xcelsius XML Connection Issue when using a Crystal created XML file

    HI Xcelsius/Crystal Gurus,
    I am running Crystal Reports 2008 version 12.2.9.698 and Xcelsius 2008 5.3.0.0 Build 12,3,0,670,
I am attempting to create an XML file from a Crystal report which will be consumed by an Xcelsius Dashboard.  Apparently, there is something with the file that Xcelsius does not like.
I have formatted the report exactly as Xcelsius requires and exporting via text with an xml extension to create an .xml file.  When I add an XML Connection in Xcelsius and add the appropriate names/range, etc...I am able to see the file via the Preview XML button on the Connection, but when I use a component, I am not seeing the data in the component.
I can 'recreate' the file in NotePad by manually typing in the entries to look exactly like the file created by Crystal and set up a connection in Xcelsius to consume that file and it works beautifully.
Does anyone have any experience with using Crystal Reports to create an XML file (not using the XML Export, but by exporting as a Text and adding an extension)?
Is it possible that Crystal is adding hidden characters or something?  I can pull this Crystal created file into an XML editor or MS Word and it is validated as a good XML File.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

This article is all about setting up security on the web service. But, I just want to connect to the web service as a client using the proxy and the web service doesn't have any security set on it at this time.
I am getting a connection timeout, even when I set the syncMaxWaitTime in the domain.xml file on the app server to a higher number (although this doesn't seem to affect the time it takes for the debugger to return).

  • XCelsius 2008 connectivity to SAP Netweaver BW

    Hi All
I have installed xcelsius 2008 SP2(trial version) and trying to connect it to our BI (Netweaver 7.02) system through SAP NETWEAVER BW connectivity provided in xcelsius.
While connecting it gives an "error : 2032" . I have some questions regarding it :
    1.  Does licensed version is necessary for making a connection ?
    2.  Do we need to install some Webserver like Apache TOMCAT to run it successfully ?
    3.  If answer to  point 2 is yes , then how can i move forward to config the TOMCAT and establish the connection ?
    4.  The prerequisite , NW 7.0 EhP1 SP5 with ABAP and Java stacks , on server side , means Portal(Java) + BI(ABAP) system or something else ?
As per note 1408384 , i have checked wsnavigator for bicsremote connectivity , that is working fine.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Karan,
we are also facing this issue which is getting on our nerves.
    Our BI Backend has EHP2.
We have also tried different versions of Xcelsius 2008 (3.2, 3.4, 4).
No chance. After the password entry to our BI backend the system is working. And it ends without getting the query (meta) data  inside. We only see the query names. But after choosing they are not opening.
Authorizations in Backend and Portal should be fine.
The web services seem to run.
So we absolutely have no idea.
The evaluation version I also dont have. Because I could connet to another BI an could read the query.
    We are wordless. Stay tuned..
    Best regards Harry

  • Is it possible to export Xcelsius using SAP BW connection to PDF ?

My customer has a requirement of exporting an Xcelsius visualisation based on SAP NetWeaver BW Connection to pdf.
When I do so, the pdf is generated, but the query to BW is never executed (Refresh Before Components Are Loaded, Refresh button on grid : it does not work).
Is there a way to publish a Xcelsius visualisation based on BW via pdf ? By publishing the pdf to the SAP NetWeaver portal ?
    Thanks

  • Xcelsius and Crystal Report for SAP BW

we're going to use Crystal Report 2008 and Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 to integrate with SAP BW 7 (with SAP EHP1 + SP5 applied).
I understand that Crystal Report 2008 and Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 is "Client" application, which will be installed on each local machine (Developer machine, not end-user machine). I also understand latest xcelsius Enterprise 2008 + SP2, xcelsius can connect directly to BW.
Question is do I still need to install SAP Integration Kit on these local machine (Developer machine) so that we can access SAP BW data from Crystal Report as well as xcelsius Enterprise 2008?
    Please advise, thanks.

    Hi Ingo,
Yes, I understand what you 're saying:
"for distributing report objects with a larger audience you need a BusinessObjects server environment - either BusinessObjects Edge or BusinessObjects Enterprise."
What I dont understand is WHY we need to have BusinessObject Enterprise to distribute the crystal report so that my user can access the crystal report?
The reason why I am confused because earlier on, you mentioned we (BW users) can call the URL and access crystal report is saved in the BW Role.
Since my BW users can access crystal report directly from BW, WHY do we still need BusinessObject Enterprise?
    Please advise, thank you.

  • BW Variable as Prompt values in Xcelsius

    Hi Experts,
We want to create Xcelsius report based on BW Query.
We can't use direct connection BW/Xcelsius because we haven't stack Java installed.
So we have used the other method :
    - Universe on Query result
    - QaawS on this universe
    - Connection with Xcelsius.
Connection is ok but we're facing an issue with prompt.
We would like to have a mandatory prompt to determine a date intervall to filter the Xcelsius.
BW Query has a mandatory prompt but we can't have a pop-up on Xcelsius. We have to put values directly on worksheet to filter the report (But we loose query's flexibility).
The same issue happens when we put a prompt while creating the web service.
Have you any idea on how to display a prompt in Xcelsius ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas.

  • Xcelsius 2008 doesn't support excel links?

I'm building a dashboard with Xcelsius 2008 and my Excel sheet which I imported has a number of links to other Excel files - that is how the values are updated, from other Excel sheets. After adding a collumn graph component and setting it up appropriately, no collumns would show in preview mode. I added a speadsheet table component to see what was going on and all values are 0, that is why no collumns are showing. The values do, however, appear in the spreadsheet when in design mode as I wish they would in preview mode. I tried to export it and exporting yields the same results as preview mode.
I'm impressed because Crystal Xcelsius 4.5, which I had been using up to now, supports links in imported Excel files with no problems.
Is there any way to make Xcelsius 2008 honor the values as they should be, rather than setting all values taken from links to 0?
    Thank you for your responses.

    Hi:
       1. Do you mean, excel embeded another excel file using "Data->Import External Data->Import Data" then choose "excel file"? From my side, i try this scenairo and the chart can present the mapped data properly. (may be my model is to simiple...)
       2. For your excel links, I am not sure where the problem is, but I am suggest that, you can build your standalone excel sheet with excel mapping first, then import the excel file to Xcelsius, in this cases, we can distinguish whether the problem comes from excel feature itself or Xcelisus integration with Excel.
       3. I also think about the cases you are using, may be you have multiple individual spreadsheets, and want to embeded into one excel file which will be used in xcelsius, also, when the data change in the sub excel sheets, the main excel sheets should also be updated accordingly. (Please correct me if there is sth wrong)
But for excel links you are using, I saw some limitation:
       a) when you open the main excel sheet, the sub excel sheet will be "read only", so that user can not modify the sub sheet at the same time.
       b) when preview, or export to swf file, you can not update the excel links at run time when mapped excel file changes, there is no update option for excel links as far as i know.
So, to meet the scenario, you can use Data connection feature called "Excel XML Map":
The detail steps is similar with excel links, the differences is you are going to map xml file to excel range. (if you have already have a number spreedsheet in your hand, you can first save the spread sheet as xml format, then map the xml file to main excel). In this case, when user modify the xml file and save, you can refresh the mian excel file to get the updates at any time, also Xcelsius data connection provide connection called "Excel XML Map" so you can also refresh the maps at preview time and run time.
    Hope it helps.

  • Does xcelsius access data model in MS sql server 2000

have the following scenario: I need to create a dashboard which will be accessed through a Microsoft Office SharePoint server portal. This dashboard will be used for analysis of Agencies and Underwriters; they should be able to drill down to policy level details.
The data will originate from a Data Warehouse (Relational Schema) which resides on a Microsoft SQL server 2000 platform.
    Q) Does Xcelsius work off a relational model or does the data model need to be converted to a Dimensional Star schema?  Do you have to create Cubes?
    A)
    Q) It was mentioned in the book that Xcelsius can connect to a Microsoft SharePoint server using web part, however there is no information in the help menu to do that task?
    A)
My thought) I was also thinking that the data model build on MS SQL SERVER 2000 can be used to create a Universe, which then can link to Live Office using Query as a Web Service (QAAWS) and used to build Xcelsius model.  (Does one have to go this route, or can one access the data model created on SQL SERVER 2000?)
    Any Feedback)

I need to create a dashboard which will be accessed through a Microsoft Office SharePoint server portal.
    A) Xcelsius works on an X/Y (Column/Row) table model, strictly based on the Excel structure.  Though the underlying data model is a table, it is not inherently relational as it does not impose any BC Normal Form requirements.
Xcelsius works primarily with data embedded in an integrated Excel workbook.  Data can be input to the workbook by a variety of methods, from importing a premade Excel workbook into the the model to retrieving data from flat files (.txt, .xml, .etc) to getting data from a connection such as a WebService.
There is no capability to connect directly, 1:1, to a database source and execute SQL queries.  An intermediary is required to retrieve data from a database, such as a WebService or an XML Data connection.

  • Xcelsius Deployment

    Hi Gurus,
I have BOE 3.1, Live Office 3.1 and Crystal Report 2008 installed on the Window Server 2003 (my BOE 3.1 Server).
I am now working on how should we design/deploy the Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 architecture.
    1) Instead of installing the Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 on the same Window Server 2003, I have installed Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 with SP2 on my local machine (I am developer) as what I understand Xcelsius is just a client application where we can connect to BOE 3.1 and build the dashboard, and publish it to BOE 3.1. From my local machine, I can use
Xcelsius to connect and publish the dashboard back into BOE 3.1 Server. All work fine.
After reading the Xcelsius installation help file, I am confused:
In the help file, it says we have 3 options to deploy Xcelsius:
    A) Single machine deployment
    OR
    B) Client installation with Crystal Reports Server deployment
    OR
    C) Client installation with BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise deployment
Option A is quick clear, basically means we install all the software on single server.
    Option B says:
You can install Live Office and BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise on a
client machine and deploy Crystal Reports Server and the BusinessObjects
Web Services on a server machine.
Is the BusinessObjects Web Services here refer to TomCat application?
Why do we need Crystal Rerpots Server?
Is this option is the same as what I have done in above Step 1?
    Option C says:
You can install Live Office and Xcelsius on a client machine and deploy
BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise and the BusinessObjects Web Services
    on a server machine.
Why do we need to install Xcelsius on Client machine, then BusinessObject Xcelsius Enterprise on Server machine again?
The Xcelsius and BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise is the same software component right?
We don't Xcelsius for Client version or Xcelsius for Server version right?
    Very confusing.
    Please advise, thank you.

    Hi Amit,
    Thanks for your input.
Yes, I would like to install the Xcelsius on my client machine, but confused by the Xcelsius installation file.
I have downloaded the following Xcelsius installation from the website (https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/bosap-downloads/BOBJ XCELSIUS ENTERPRISE 2008):
    51034814 XCELSIUS ENGAGE & ENTERPRISE 2008 SP1 WINDOWS (32B)
    51037575 XCELSIUS ENGAGE & ENTERPRISE 2008 SP2 WINDOWS (32B)
So actually there is only one version of Xcelsius that we need to install on the client machine? There is no Client or Server version of Xcelsius right?
What I confused by the Xcelsius installation file are the option B and C as following:
    Option B says:
You can install Live Office and BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise on a
client machine and deploy Crystal Reports Server and the BusinessObjects
Web Services on a server machine.
Is the BusinessObjects Web Services here refer to TomCat application?
Why do we need Crystal Rerpots Server?
    Option C says:
You can install Live Office and Xcelsius on a client machine and deploy
BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise and the BusinessObjects Web Services
    on a server machine.
Why do we need to install Xcelsius on Client machine, then BusinessObject Xcelsius Enterprise on Server machine again?
The Xcelsius and BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise is actually the same applicaito that I downloaded as above right?
Please help to clarify my doubts.
    Thank you.

  • Authentication to CR and Xcelsius

    Hi All,
What authentication mechanisms are supported by Crystal reports and Xcelsius when connected to Web Serves, i.e. WSE3.0/WCF etc
In what scenarions Win AD will work for Crystal reports and Xcelsius.
Is it possible to setup WinAD SSO for custom .net Web services from Crystal Reports and for Xcelsius.
Thanks in advance for your help.

web services can be set up with vintela SSO (look up key words liveoffice SSO on SAP notes). This will work for live office and qaaws (3.1).
Crystal and Xcelsius can consume WSDL's made in qaaws but this will not enable SSO for the client. Currently SSO to Crystal and Xcelsius clients is not supported.

  • Xcelsius, Live Office, and Crystal Reports Migration Problem

    Hi Experts,
I have a problem when migrating Xcelsius dashboards from dev environment to production environment. In my dev environment, I have Crystal Reports which are published from BW dev environment and Xcelsius dashboards consuming the data in these Crystal Reports.
When I try to migrate from dev environment to production environment, I first transport Crystal Reports from BW dev environment to BW production environment and publish them to BOE production environment from BW production environment. Then I use Import Wizard to migrate Xcelsius dashboards from BOE dev environment to BOE production environment. But this way, the live office connections inside the Xcelsius dashboards break because the underlying Crystal Reports cannot be found.
The other option I can think of is migrating Crystal Reports using Import Wizard rather than transporting them to BW production environment and publishing them to BOE production environment from there. After the migration using Import Wizard, modify the database connection of these reports in CMC. I usually do this for Crystal Reports connecting other data source than BW. I haven't tried this with BW reports yet, because I think publishing is the right way to do it.
I'm on BO Edge 3.0, Crystal Reports 2008 V0, and Xcelisus 2008 SP1. And I don't have much upgrade options. Currently, I can only upgrade to BO Edge 3.1 and I don't think that makes any difference.
So how do you migrating Xcelsius dashboards, connecting to BW Crystal Reports via Live Office connection?
    Thanks,
    Robin

Edge 3.1 has quite a few bug fixes over 3.0 and then I believe you would want CR2008 SP1. But without upgrading anything BO products usually link information via unique identifiers such as the SI_CUID, If you use the IW for everything this is sure to be preserved. If not then I do not know but a good possibility from your symptoms is the CR SI_CUID may have been changed by the way you migrated it. If you are unable to make progress you may consider opening an incident with the BO deployment team but if it's a bug you will need to upgrade to 3.1.

    Tim

  • Can Xcelsius Enterprise integrate w/ Sharepoint 2007 with Xcelsius Webparts

    Hi,
Our organization is thinking about investing in Xcelsius Enterprise.  We have Crystal Reports 2008 and Sharepoint 2007 running.  Can Xcelsius enterprise connect to both and can I implement a realtime dashboard on Sharepoint 2007.  I'd like to create a dashboard in Xcelsius and publish it to Sharepoint 2007 as a swf file and have the flash object updated automatically.  Can someone confirm that Xcelsius enterprise will work?  Will it do it through webparts?  Also can I duplicate the same dashboard on Crystal Reports 2008 InfoView site?  The dashboard on Sharepoint would be mutlipaned and have some KPI's if I can set them up against the dashboard information.
    Thank for your help.

Anyone?  I can't believe no one has tried this with Xcelsius Enterprise?

  • How to deploy Qaaws queries and Xcelsius in multi server architecture

    Hi Experts ,
I have developed a very good looking dashboard which uses qaaws queries (Dev ) to get the data in to it . I have deployed these qaaws queries to another server (UAT ) using deploy option in Query as a Web service . But still the webservice URL pointing to my DEV server .
Also , I saved my xcelsisu file to the BO platform (in DEV) and then I imported this file in to my UAT server using import wizard . Now I opened this xcelsius file in the UAT server . In datamanager , Still I can see my webservice URL's pointing to DEV server .
How can I deploy Qaaws and Xcelsius in a mult server Architecture . We have different servers for each environment ( Dev, INT,UAT , PRD )
Need some one help to getout of this problem .
Please note that my output of Xcelsius is in PDF file .
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Dirasa

There are several options, and an approach to make the QaaWS services environment independent
    1. When you use the QaaWS clinet builder and use the option to Copy to another server, you'll need to select the Advanced Parameters button on the 1st screen and change the server environment referernce.
    2. QaaWS services can be captured adn moved with the import wizard and Bair files.  You may want to  consider this option if you also want to capture adn contriol the QaaWS defintions for change, manangement, release management and source code control and rollback.  Moving to an new BusinessObjects environment  with Import wizard may require changnig the server environment reference with the AqqWS client connected to the target environement after it is moved.
We have found an approach to make the QaaWS data connections in Xcelsius BO environment indendent and relatively referenced, so when you move Xcelsius dashboards sourced with QaaWS between BO environements you don't need to redefine the data connection in Xcelsius
In Xcelsius data connections, after you paste the QaaWS WSDL on the definition tab, and import the Web Service URL field is populated with a full web service URL path http://BusinessObjectsServer/dswsbobje/qaawsservices/queryasaservice
We have found the after the import you can edit  the web service URL and remove the BO server reference at the beginning and start it with /dswsbobje/qaawsservices/queryasaservice .
Xcelsius dashboards in the BOE with QaaWS data connections still works to supply data to the dashboard.  When the dashboard run the BOE must assume that without an explict server reference, that it must be the current BO environment.  Another advantage of this approach is it avoids the need for a crossdomain.XML file on the BO web server.
