Xcelsius Engage 2008 - slow SWF preview/generation?

Hi Everyone - I am just curious - how long does it take your dashboards to load for a preview?
I am averaging about 2 minutes to get to the "Maximum rows message", then about another 1:30 to load the preview. The processer is pegged at 100% with 1.2 GB in the page file on average during the whole time. No other apps are running.
I think my company pc is ancient (specs below), but this just seems awful slow to me. All data is static on the sheet- no DB ties, and I have less than 200 rows on the longest tab. I converted all my nested IF statements & vloookups to index & match, but no noticeable performance boost.

2 GB Ram

Hi Brian - interesting to hear it's me.
I do not have anything over row 200 in any of the three tabs, but there are some index & match arrays that are vertical (region & country performance aggregated) that get close to 200. For the default rows setting, I have used the default 512, reduced it to 200, and expanded it to 1,000 without any noticeable changes.
I think I probably have about 200 objects on the dash (mind you I am considering everything on the canvas an object for purposes of this conversation). A good portion of them are linked labels.
I did neglect to mention that this was a 4.5 model that I imported, maybe that's where the problem lies.
I am going to hit the manuals & some of the webinars I have seen posted over the next few weeks to "re-learn" the program.
I see that a lot of published docs are asking users to create their input models completely from within the interface. Again, I am importing a model built for 4.5, so maybe that is the issue.
Are most of you fellow users still updating sheets & importing them, or are you making the updates manually from inside Xcelsius?

Xcelsius Engage 2008 Service Pack 1 - Fix Pack 3 (FP3) is now available and posted on the SAP BusinessObjects download support site. After the upgrade in Help > About your Xcelsius version number should be 5.1.3.0. (Build 12,1,3,495.)
Fix Packs are cumulative meaning that all the fixes since SP1 are included in FP3. So FP1 and FP2 do not have to be installed first.

I upgraded from 4.5 to Engage mid March so I guess I need this patch. The problem is that when I try to download it, I get two windows. The first one says:
"Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created"
The second window says:
"The upgrade can not be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade".
I don't understand the first message and the second does not apply. Can someone decipher these messages? Thanks!

Xcelsius Engage 2008 installation error - office xp required

I'm install a new machine, moving my applications from Vista to 7.
On the new system i've already installed Office 2010..
I am trying to install Xcelsius Engage 2008 and recieve the following error msg's:
1. Office XP application: Excel, Word, Outlook or PowerPoint must be pre-installed. Higher versions work fine. (Clicked "OK")
2. Installation ended prematurely because of an error. (Clicked "OK")
In older discussions Office 2010 is not mentioned and i don't want to install an older version like Xp or 2003 on this clean system. Could anybody help me? Thanks
ps: obviously i've tried to launch setup of SP1 and SP3 without success.

i've modify the register like you write but without success, same error occurs..
i've tried either c:\program files than c:\program files (x86) because i'm running Windows 7 x64
ps: i solved with a compromise, installing office 2003 (only powerpoint) , installing Xcelsius with SPs and then removing office 2003.. it seems to run

Xcelsius Engage 2008 - Error msg during install

Would someone please help! I am trying to install Xcelsius Engage 2008 and recieve the following error msg's:

My OS is XP Professional, and am running Office XP on my machine. Why is this occurring?

I have tried this on 2 machines - one with Office 2003 and Office 2007. The install aborts on office 2003 (I uninstalled and reinstalled office 2003). I tried two different downloads of xcelsius 2008 (we have license for xcelsius 2008 enterprise) - one from this forum and other from service marketplace software downloads area for BOBJ. Same error.
Documentation says office 2003 and 2007 are supported. Frustrating -- the sap notes search does not even recognize excelsius key word (now that knowledge base is gone) - asks me if i misspelled..
any other clues?

Unable to utilize Drill-Down for all Filtered Dates in Xcelsius Engage 2008

Iu2019m very new to the Xcelsius Engage 2008 product and donu2019t understand what is needed to correct the drill-down problem encountered in a newly created dashboard.
The issue is with Drill-Down from a filtered chart. For some reason, I am unable to correctly pick any data item from the chart located top of workspace to drill-down to the lower chart when selecting a month beyond Jan u201911.
Iu2019ve unhidden the Label Based Menu, List Box 1 and List Box 2 during attempt to find out why I am unable to drill-down when I select a month other than Jan u201911. As youu2019ll see, when you u2018manuallyu2019 click in the unhidden List Box 2, the bottom chart is displaying the correct data.
Also - new to post for this forum - is there a way to attached the XLF to help with visual support to the problem?

Hi there and welcome.
First troubleshooting step is to add a spreadsheet component to your canvas so you can watch what's happening. Second, have a look at this step-by-step to make sure you're not missing any steps. http://blog.davidg.com.au/2011/04/xcelsius-interactivity-chart-drill-down.html
Can you select only Jan '11? Or only up to Jan '11? Are you selecting whole months or days?
Assuming that your second chart is filtering for this date, I would check that the formatting is correct. Try, for example, removing all formatting so that you're seeing 40668 instead of a date. Does that work?
Also, it can be helpful to post your version number. This can be found under Help > About Xcelsius and will something like 5.3.5.0

Cannot generate AIR file when exporting from Xcelsius Engage 2008 SP1

Hi,
Xcelsius seems to go through the motions - "generating swf file" - but no AIR file actuallly lands in the specified folder in my c:\ drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled SP! but the problem persists. I have the following already installed:
1) Flex SDK 3.1 and the file path to the root directory of the SDK is specified in the sdkPath.dat file.
2) Java version 1.6
3) Adobe AIR 1.1.

Hi - I'm having the same issue with generating an AIR package from Xcelsius 2008 SP1. My network environment is protected by a corporate firewall and proxy, so I suspect that there are internet resources that are not accessible. I tried generating an AIR file while connected to my home network, and it worked OK (although, I couldn't access the data feeds on my corporate network).
Is there a list of internet resources that Xcelsius needs to access to produce the AIR files?

Has anyone gotten Xcelsius Engage 2008 to run on 64-bit vista

I'm trying to find anyone that actually has the product running on a 64-bit machine. I have tried everything i've read on internet posts/forums but can't figure out how to get it to run on my desktop. It will run on my 32-bit laptop but not on my 64-bit desktop. Any help appreciated.

I run Xcelsius 2008 (Engage and Enterprise version) on Vista 64 bit. I didn't have any problems installing or running , although if you post exactly what the errors are then it could be down to local admin rghts or the software you have installed on your 64 bit laptop not the fact it is 64 bit.

Installation of Xcelsius Engage 2008 was successful, but cannot run it.

Xcelsius Engage2008 was installed successfully with given key code, it has no problem. However, when I run the product, the system pops up information like key code missing/expired and required to input key code again. then when I enter keycode, it shows the key code is not valid.
Also I was informed by BO engineer, my keycode is no problem, pls help me on this issue, thanks!

I have the same problem as do dozens of other people.
When is a solution to this problem going to be available?
None of the supposed solutions that have been documented actually work.

Xcelsius Engage 2008

Purchased new today. When launching, receive error unable to locate Excel. Closes application. Alternative if you open Excel, then launch, sometimes it will work. According to forum, needed to download SP1 fix, which indicates my purchased version should be 12,1, 0, 247 but version is 12,0,0,121 and will not launch SP1 fix. Any advice?

We are running Vista, but UAC was turned off. Still no luck.
One thing that is interesting is that the computer is setup with 2 users. Both are set up with administrator access.
When running Xcelsius with the 1st user (original administrator) we receive no error and Xcelsius runs normally.
When running Xcelsius with the 2nd user (2nd admin) we get the error even though we installed Xcelsius while logged onto this 2nd user.
Any ideas?

Xcelsius Engage 2008 SP3 will not allow me to export to Adobe Air.

The HELP menu offers no viable solution. AIR is greyed out as a choice. Worked in the previous (pre-Sp3) version. Using Adobe Flex Pro 3 (commercial) and most recent version of AIR. Help!

Xcelsius Engage 2008 - copy and paste in Tabs/Canvases

I am trying to copy and paste grouped or un-grouped components from one tab into another tab/canvas. The grouped components get pasted into the new tab/canvas, but are also duplicated in the original tab/canvas. When I delete the duplicated components from the original tab/canvas, they get deleted from the new tab/canvas. Does anyone know how to effectively copy and paste from one canvas to another?

As far as I remember, I too got this issue sometime back and was addressed by installing the latest service pack/fix pack; the version 5.1.1.0. Try getting the latest one from the site and see if it fixes your issue.

Problem for web service path for Xcelsius engage in flash object

Hi, All
I had created one xcelsius through Web Service of SAP B1.it works well.
but when I run the flash object came from xcelsius by explorer,it gives one message
"Can not access external data"
thier I have to give path for swf file and web service path -- (which is given at the time of connection of xcelsius through web service in data manager)
and I have to run the web service then it shows
the dash board made from Xcelsius very well.
but when i change the path of same web service to other m/c then flash file does work and it gives message
"Can not access external data"
but in practical my web service path can be changed, it should not fixed for path which is given in data manager in Xcelsius.
I am using Xcelsius Engage 2008 sp3

Aside from the question, I tried another methods and I have succeeded calling webservice. A reference URL is

Main cause may be jsessionID as you guess. When I try with EAI, I have send login information and message call at once, so URL may be incorrect.

Engage 2008: Line Graph, can't start 2nd series @ different X value

Using Xcelsius Engage 2008
Created line chart w/ 2 series
2nd series does not start at the same X value as series 1.
How do I generate the second series so the initial part of my 2nd series line does not show all 0s?

I'm using Xcelsius version: 5.0.0.99 and Build number 12,0,0,121.   I am not sure if S1 is already installed. If not, where can I get it?
This is what I'm trying to do:
1) created a basic line graph with two series
Series 1 Data has 2 columns
Series 1 Column 1 includes dates. THis will be the labels for the X axis:
1/1/07
1/6/07
1/12/07
1/1/08
1/6/08
Column 2 includes the line graph data for series 1
30
50
10
90
120, etc
Series 2 column 1 - THis is the same as series 1 since it includes the same labels for the X axis
Series 2 column 2 includes the data for the 2nd line graph
HERE's WHERE IT IS DIFFERENT
I have no data for dates 1/1, 1/6, 1/12/07.   My data starts in
2008. I don't want the graph to show 0s for the first 3 dates and then jump up to the 2008 data.   Is there a way to make the 2nd line chart start on 1/1/08?

Xcelsius 2008 - Unable to preview changes made in design mode
I have installed Xcelsius 2008 (RTM) and also Service Pack 1 / Fix Pack 1.1. Unfortunately, I can now not preview changes I made in design mode (but can see the change in design mode). In addition, if I save the changes made to the Excel spreadsheet (using this as the datasource) and then exit out of the application, then go back in, the changes have not been saved?!
I have also installed Fix Pack 1.3, but the same issues occurs.
This is causing us issues as we have developed a number of dashboards that can no longer be updated.
Please could someone advise?

I would recommend decomposing large sets into more manageable sets. For instance, if you have data for a very large regional district, decompose the data into smaller sets for sub-districts.
As for a paper, I'm not sure, but the main determinant of performance is how many cells you bind to the component. For a typical component on a typical computer, I'd recommend no more than 9000 cells. On a weaker computer less, on a stronger computer more.
