Xcelsius-Export to pdf-opens with default data

HI All,
We have Xcelsius dashboard pulling data from webi reports using Live Office connection.
Data is coming from SAP BW so every time when I run the dashboard it asks for user/pw and based on that it shows me data.
Till here everything is fine as expected. Now when I take the pdf export of this dashboards to distribute it among users it saves the data within pdf file. So when a user opens this pdf, it initially show him some set of data though he is not authorized to see that. Later it asks for user/pw based when which he can see data relevant to him.
Am I missing something here. This is so because the requirement here is to export just the template of this dashboard without any data and let the users provide their credentials while opening the pdf so that they could see what they are authorized to see.
Please suggest. Also let me know if you need more info.

Thanks Matt for your response. Here in this dashboard we are using live office connection pointing to a webi report.
Don't know if there is way to clear out data from excel in this case before taking export to pdf.
And ,another thing that I have noticed is that everytime i take export it first generates swf file and ask for user credentials and after that it export the same to a pdf.Pls let me know if I am missing some important properties here that could give me the desired result.

When I PDF my document, save it to the intranet location, and then try to launch the link, the following dialogue box opens

Hi Michael, I did take out all special characters, there were underscores anyway not spaces :=} no ampersands, or anything like that.
I have InDesign version 6 and Windows 7, I also upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.2, but I think that has nothing to do with the export functions of InDesign. I was thinking I would try and reset the preferences back to default, see if that helps. Perhaps I ought to also try and install an updated Adobe Acrobat version?
What's weird is that there are hyperlinks to URLs via http:// all over the document, that work fine. Its the file:// prefix that is not resolving at all. I even tried to select URL and then type with forward slashes file://server/folder/folder yet that didn't yield any result -- actually InDesign changed the classification of the hyperlink from URL back to file. When I repro, sometimes I get a dialog that says the file is not available, sometimes I get no response from the system, meanwhile the tooltip displays the correct file path. It might be that Windows 7 which recently applied updates to my computer (it a work computer so my IT dept is the owner of updates) is doing something odd due to firewalls or something. I am going to check into this on Monday.

How to open a pdf form with fdf data

Hi all,
I am working on a new project. In that, I have to load a PDF contract form with FDF data on Internet Explorer Window.
I don't know how to do it. Actually I tried using this format on the URL (while loading the respective page)

But it opened as an empty pdf document. . Actually I need it with the fdf data.
Can anyone know any other way to do this?
Or is this not possible to open a pdf form with fdf data in a browser?

Polymorphic VI has been AUTOMATICALLY opened with default type after deployment

I use some polymorphic AI VIs in subVIs of my application with scaled data type. However, after deployment of application (not executable) to another computer these VIs have AUTOMATICALLY been opened with default waveform data type and I had to change the desired data type manually. How to prevent it from happening?

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?

For that kind of volume and unattended operation, you want InDesign Server – which is the server/high volume edition of INDD.

When you say the entire content, do you mean some parts of the pdf are not getting displayed or is it going out of the screen?

Links inside PDF open with Reader app, but not IE plugin. Why? Help!

I am including some PDFs on a dvd. I link to them from a webpage also on the dvd. Some of these pdfs have links to other pdfs on the disc. While testing, one machine opens the main pdfs in the Adobe Reader application and their links work fine. On another, the main pdfs open with the Reader plugin for IE and none of their links work. What would be causing this?

I'm still testing, but I'll try and create some sample pdfs. I'm not sure how the ones I'm having difficulty with were created. I suspect Word and then converted using Distiller, but not sure. Thanks for your offer.
So far I've tested a number of machines with inconsistent results. Works on an XP machine running IE7 and Reader 8. Doesn't work on an XP machine running IE8 and Reader 9.4. Works on a Windows 7 machine running IE8 and Reader 9.4. This is getting confusing.

How to change "Open With" default

When one has, say, a .tiff image stored in the Documents folder how does one change the "open with" default? For instance, if Photoshop is given as the default, how does one change this to Preview?

Right or control click the file, then click Get Info. Click the Open With discovery triangle and select the application you want to open that file with. You may have to click Other and navigate to the Applications folder to select the app, ie., Preview.

                                   The issues i'm facing are:
When it is reading a row from MS-Excel it is writing to the .pdf file from last cell to first cell.( 2 cell in 1 place, 1 cell in 2 place like if the row has two cells with data as : Name of the Intern: Kesavulu Reddy then it is writing to the .pdf file as Kesavulu Reddy Name of Intern)
and the second issue is:
It is not recognizing the date format..it is recognizing the date in first row only......
Plz Tell me wht is the solution for this...

I want to prevent users from saving a PDF form with the data filled in

I am using Adobe Acrobat X Pro to create a fillable PDF form. When I open my form in Acrobat Reader XI, it says right at the top "You can save data typed into this form." I have NOT saved it as Reader Extended PDF. This is a form that will be emailed to recipients or available to download from our website as a PDF so they can fill it out on their office computer, print with the data filled, and then fax or snail mail to us. (No online or email submissions.) We do not want them to accidentally save confidential information on the form that will be visible to the next user when they close it, or to Save As and keep the filled form.
I know there are still ways to do it if someone really wants to, like printing it to PDF or using a PDF software other than Reader, but these are not folks who would have time or intention to do such a thing. 99% of them will be using some version of Reader, probably a much older one than mine. Thank you for any advice!

PDF form with XML data connection comes up blank at run time

I am a newbie to ADOBE Livecycle 9, but am very proficient in C#. I would like to request for your guidance on the following issue.
We have a desktop application in C#, WPF, Sqlserver. The requirement is to launch a Livecycle form from the application for the user to read/edit/save data
I have done this much so far -
Downloaded trial version of Livecycle 9
Developed a interactive PDf form
Created an XML based data connection. Generated fields on the form using the fields from this connection.
Set the .XML file as preview source for the form
the controls on the form are boumd to the xml data source
In design mode, the form works fine, it displays my data correctly
I have created a WPF form with a button. On click of this button, I call the Process.Start(pdf-file-path). My pdf is launched properly
I have added a combo box to my WPF form. I select a parameter from this, then call a stored procedure which returns me a datatable depending on parameter passed
Using the returned datatable, I have used the datatable.writexml and datatable.writexmlschema to create my XML and XSD files. as mentioned above, this xsd is used to create the data connection for the PDF and the XML for the preview source
This is what I want to do -
Launch the PDF from my WPF form, pre-populated with the newly created XML data from my WPF form.
So basically, as the user changes the selection criteria from the combo box, the XML file data will change and the PDF file will be launched each time with new data.
The XSD format will always be constant
Problem -
My XML and XSD get created properly, my PDF launches, but it is empty
If I change my selection criteria and run the WPF application, and then open the PDF in design mode, it asks me whether it should refresh the XML source. This means that the PDF form is connecting correctly to the XML source
So why then, does the form come up empty at run time?
What link am I missing?
I have found some sites that help using Web applications, but nothing for desktop applications. It would be fantastic if you could point me to some help for developing Livecycle forms with C# / SQLServer

Oops, something happended with the above post. I will try again... I have tried your suggestion but I still get the same garbled XML (with data repeated and some values "cut in half". Here is what I get after decode-service and extract-to-XML-service. This is just the first barcode, the others are similar, sorry for the poor formatting, but I get a CDATA tage infront of the "istensen" value. I have tried using a custom .NET component (ClearImage) for reading the same form (with the barcode) I get the correct data out from the barcodes. So I guess something is wrong with the decode-service in Barcoded Forms ES when I use compressed XML. But I can conclude since the ClearImage component can read the barcodes that they are compressed correctly. Can you help me with getting further with this problem? Sincerely Kim

PDF Generation with LiveCycle Data Services

I am using LiveCycle Data Services to generate a dynamic pdf. I worked with this tutorial : livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/es/sdkHelp/programmer/lcds/pdfgen_1.html and i adapted the code to my own example.
I created a pdf template with livecycle designer and i succeed to generate the pdf thanks to LiveCycle Data Services.
Here is my problem :
In LiveCycle Designer i create a table and bind my data connection (from xml source) to this table and i bind subforms to repeating data.
It works when i try to open an overview of the pdf with LiveCycleDesigner.
But when i try to generate the pdf with livecycle data service, there is no repeat of my data. There is only a number of items corresponding to the minimum of repeating i set in livecycle designer binding window...
Is it possible to generate repeating data with LiveCycle DS ?
an example of my xml source :

</item>
In livecycle designer, if i set the minimum of repeating to 1, LiveCycle DS generate a pdf with only one item.
if i set the minimum of repeating to 2, LiveCycle DS generate a pdf with only 2 items. etc.
I don't know how to generate an indeterminate number of items...

Hi Guillaume,
there is no limitation. Dynamic PDF files can be generated with Livecycle Data Services.
You should have a look at the XML file generated by your Flex code. Try to save it and see how the XML file behaves when you generate a PDF preview with Designer. You can go to the menu: File > Properties > Preview > Use XML test data...
With the XFAHelper class, you can either load a PDF or a XDP file. Have you tried with a XDP ?
I've attached a dynamic PDF file that I've created for a customer. I generate a dynamic PDF file using LiveCycle Data Services. Maybe you'll find some clues within the file.

Populating a PDF form with database data

I would love to know how (if possible) to populate an Adobe PDF form with data pulled from an Access database.
Background
I have a registration form already created using Adobe LiveCycle which is used by people to fill in their details. With a built-in xml schema, the user saves the form and sends them to me. I extract the data into an xml document which I can then import in an Access database using VBA code.
The Need
When it comes time to re-register, much of the original data provided by the user has not changed. Rather than ask them to fill out the form all over again, I would like to send them their original data and they can update whichever fields they need to. With the xml schema built into the form, I would love to turn this form into a two-way avenue for both importing and exporting data. Is this possible?
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I have not provided enough information.

You can connect the form to the DB using anODBC connection. This functionality comes as part of Acrobat but the form must be Reader Extended by the full LiveCycle Server version of Reader Extension to allow this in Reader. In your case, if your system is the only on ethat will interact with the DB then this might be a viable solution (but you woudl have to use Acrobat). This solution woudl involve create an ODBC connection in your system then configuring the form to make use of that connection.
Does that make sense?

Populate PDF form with XML data

Although a seemingly simple task, this question has occupied way too much of my time the last week and I am asking the following out of sheer desperation and frustration.
I have a pdf form created with Designer 7.0. I have a separate XML data file to populate the form with. I can test using the preview in Designer and everything looks great. Now, all I want to do is deploy this pdf to a standard web server (IIS, Windows) such that any visitor to the site (using Reader) is able to open it/view it/print it, with the data there. That's it.
This was easily accomplished using Acrobat 6 by creating an ASP page that output an FDF file which referenced the PDF. Not so with the latest version.
I have downloaded three separate several hundred page documents that do not explain how to accomplish this task simply. So to summarize:
1. Does this task *require* a separate piece of software (Document Server) that was not required before?
2. If Document Server is not required, what are the steps to publish the pdf file and reference the data file?
Please help, extraordinarily frustrated :-(.

Ravinder, were you actually able to get your PDF Document (Form) to load with data? I have not been able to get my .NET page to populate my PDF document - the PDF loads in my Browser but has no data. If you can post sample code that you were able to get to work, it would be appreciated, or if you notice something wrong with my code below, please let me know. Also, when my PDF document loads in my browser, I am prompted to "Open or Save" my .xdp file and if I click "Open", my PDF Form loads, but the fields are not populated. How do I stop this prompt from loading? I don't want the user(s) to be able to see this. In Design Data merge into separate pdf files with variable data name

Hi all, thank you for taking the time to read this.
Here's what I have.
I've created a file in indesign using a 65 page document.
With this document I've set it up to have specific data in certain areas with data merge. I have that part setup and it works fine.
When I go to export PDF it creates one massive pdf document with all the variable data in it. However here is the scenario I would like.
1. Indesign to create a separate pdf file for each record. So in this example it would be 100 different 65 page pdfs since it should have different pdfs for each record and there are 100 records in the csv.
2. The pdf should be named after each variable record. For example record one says name "Joe", record 2 name "Frank". So it should create joe.pdf, frank.pdf etc.
How can I accomplish this?
