Xcelsius with SAP BPC 7.0 MS

Hi all
I have installed SAP BPC 7.0 MS version. In addition to this, I have downloaded trial version of Xcelsius 2008 from SAP Partner Site to test its functionalities. I want to connect SAP BPC with Xcelsius and I am following the How-To guide to do the same. However, the option to create connections under Data menu in Xcelsius is disabled. Is it because I have a trial version or am I doing something wrong here?
Can someone from SAP please confirm?

I too had similar problem initially and I found that I have installed the wrong version of Xcelsius. This might be the case. So please look into this.

I have a couple of questions with regard to xcelsius in sap bpc 7.5 ms
I am using SAP BPC 7.5 MS AND Xcelsius 2008 sp5.
I already installed the required extended analyzer and EPM connector.
Now here are my questions
1st. I have a file named BPCDATAGRID.XLX, is it the same add ons that mentioned on the HTG? i tried adding this add on but everytime i add this file my xcelsius freeze. in short it was unsuccessful. Could you please teach me or tell me where or how to download the BPCDATA grid that was mentioned in the HTG?
2nd. Since i installed the extended analytic analyzer. im wondering why the function =GetReportDefinition() wouldn't work.
when i check the available functions of IDPrj.AnalyzerFuncs, it includes only two functions, namely AnalyzerOLAPMember and ButtonActionFormattingSheet. Will you please please please teach me how to deal with this.

Hi Sorin,
according to the guidlines, SAP posted in the wiki, for connecting SAP BPC to Xcelsius via XML connection I have to connect the XcelsiusService.dll via .NET framework 1.1.4322.
This might not be the correct way anymore, but there is no other guide on how to connect BPC and Xcelsius.
Can you provide info on a other way of connecting BPC to Xcelsius?

Performance issues with SAP BPC 7.0/7.5 (SP06, 07, 08) NW

There are some performance issues with SAP BPC 7.5/7.0 NW, users are saying they are not getting data or there are some issues while getting data from R/3 system or ECC 6.0. Then what things do I need to consider to check, such as what DataSources or Cubes I need to check? So, how to solve this issue?
What things I need to consider for SAP NW BI 7.0 u2013 SAP BPC 7.5 NW (SP06, 07, 08) Implementation?

Hi,
New SP was released in February, and now most of the new bugs should been caught ,This has a Central Note. For SP06 it's Note 1527325 - Planning and Consolidation 7.5 SP06 NetWeaver Central Note to fix any issues. Most of the improvements in SP06 were related to performance, especially when logging on from the BPC clients.There you should be able to find a big list of fixes/improvements and Notes that describe those. Some of the Notes even have test description how to reproduce that issue in the old version.

Report with SAP BPC MS Hierarchy

Hello,
We are using BO Web Intelligence in order to create reports with SAP BPC 10 Microsoft version data.
We have a requirement were we need to create this reports with hierarchies created at BPC level. However when we use this hierarchies, technical names are always showed attached to descritions (please see attached file).
What we want is to change the following:
- at this moment we have "VN_FACT - Facturação", that represents ID concatenated with " - " and Description;
- we want that only shows Description but with plus sign of hierarchy.
How can we achieve this?

Xcelsius with SAP R/3 Datasource

Hello,
I want to create Xcelsius Dashboard based on SAP R/3 Data. I have no possibility to access on a Business Warehouse. So I thought, I can create a suitable Crystal Report and create a connection on Xcelsius to this report.
Now I read that Live Office is required for this access. Is this right? How can I access via Live Office on this CR? Is this like a spreadsheet?
Or are there other possibilities to solve this? I have no possibility to create a universe. I already checked this.

You could use Crystal Reports as a source on top of R/3 , then use Live Office to "feed" Xcelsius the data

Hi Sandeep,
1:We need to look at whether cost center planning is tied to a profit center level and/or to a company code level
2:We could have dimensions like Account(which in this case would reflect cost element),category,entity,time with additional dimension s like profit center(cost centers can have a direct mapping to profit center,usage of properties would help in here),WBS ,projects,investment position id's etc.
3:We could look at different applications like HR(pay roll related expenses),admin,capex(to bring in depreciation values) etc to bring in data to pull in data to different cost centers either directly or via script logic(usage of destination_app)
4:For those values not tied up to profit centers ,we would look at allocating/distributing the expenses to different cost elements
5:We need to decide whether we do the planning on a monthly/periodic vs yearly level where in we would look at actual values and incrementing at a certain % to fill in as the base for our planning(using category=actual/plan plus timeperiods).We could look at Top down vs botton up approach as well to segregate the planned costs
6:Consideration should be made at security level to identify/restrict different users who needs to access specific cost centers
Yes,this is just a small jist of structure,there are 100's of other considerations which would come into picture from a business requirement level.

VBA problem with SAP BPC report

I have an EVDRE() SAP BPC report where one of the member id selection is derived using a VBA script. The problem I'm having is when I click on expand and refresh icon, the member id changes to #Value and the expansion and refresh fails as #Value is not a member id.
I would really appreciate any help on understanding why on expansion my VBA selected member id is replaced with #Value and how I can fix this if that is possible.

Thank you for your help with this problem which is now resolved.
Just to clarify we are on SAP BPC version 5.1
How it was resolved....
We had to use BEFORE_EXPAND as advised and also fix the calculation reference and finally also use AFTER_REFRESH.
We used VBA code to remember the dropdown lists option
and
copy the calculated member id into the pagekey dimension cell.
The AFTER_REFRESH restored the dropdown list option selected.
Not sure if the code is helpful but this is what we used....

Xcelsius with SAP netweaver connection extremely slow when executing

Hi everybody,
I am building a quite complex Xcelsius dashboard with multiple connections and many components with individual mappings.
My initial load time is now around 5 minutes (the netweaver portal loading icon) and the initialization is around 1 minute (the Xcelsius initialization icon). When I check the BI statistics using &profiling=x in the end of the URL I can see that the process "initialize item XC_DASHBOARD_ITEM_1" is causing 95% of the load time.
I read in the how to guide "how to.. build fast and efficient dash boards using the new netweaver BW integration in SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius" that the swf should be cached on the SAP system when using SAP netweaver BI 7.0, EHP1, SP6 patch 40. I can see in our system that we are on 7.01 with SP6. However, I cannot see the patch level. The cache in the query monitor is turned on, but it seems like only queries are cached in here.
Does anyone know where I can check if the swf file is being cached on the SAP system? And do you know how to minimize the time spent on the process "initialize item XC_DASHBOARD_ITEM_1" on the JAVA and ABAP stack?
I know that I could probably remove many of my mappings and components in the dashboard to get better performance, but then I cannot build the dashboard as intended. By the way, most of my connections only retrieve data when the users are navigating, so only very few connections are refreshed before load and this is maximum 20-30 cells altogether.

YOu can observe the SWF caching in the HTTP trace ..along with the time stamp.
For patch you can check via the SDT as per note 937697.

Using CR and Xcelsius with SAP BW - what is the minimal installation?

If this question is allready asked and answered several times i appologize.. but I'm having a hard time finding the correct information.
Our situation is that we run an SAP ERP and SAP BW solution with a federated SAP Enterprise Portal on top. The users require more graphical solutions for both static reporting and dynamic dashboards. So we want to use Crystal Reports and Xcelsius to provide frontend interface, but we want to do as little as possible backend, i.e avoid installing a full BO server with roles etc.
I appriciate that we need SAP NW EhP 1 SPS 5 to load data directly into Xcelsius and the BO integration kit transports have to be loaded into the BW system for full CR connectivity.
The problem that I'm having a hard time finding anwsers to is if this setup is capable of storing and and distributing the CR reports and dashboards to endusers? Can CR reports be stored on the BW server? Or can the CR reports and the dashboards be stored in the KW part of the portal?
Another partly related question, what desktop tool does the enduser need to run CR reports that updates with data from the BW server?
Alot of customers will have an SAP environment without any BO server/tools. Naturally we want to change as little as possible. A guide to what is needed for each BO BI tool to be implemented on SAP BW would be appriciated.

for the CR reports you need a BO Enterprise (or BO Edge) installation. The access to the BOBJ server is done transparently for your SAP BW users (they are able to start their reports in SAP GUI) but the reports are not stored on the SAP system rather in the BO repository.

I need your inputs regarding Extended Analytic Analyzer add ins.
I installed the SAP Business Object Extended Analytic Analyzer hoping to integrate the Xcelsius in SAP BPC MS 7.5
I am following the HTG to integrate but got lost.
In EPM connector steps, I cannot find the option from OPERATION TYPE: Retrieve data using Analyzer Report.
The only options available under operation type are

Retrieve Models
Retrieve Dimensions
Retrieve Dimension Members
Input Data
Retrieve Business Process Flows
Retrieve Context
Retrieve Members Property Values

It doesn't include the option Retrieve data using Analyzer Report.
Im wondering if there are different version of the epm connector? Was my EPM connector differs from the HTG?
And also in Excel under Extended Analytic Analyzer, the function =GETREPORTDEFINITION() is missing

It seems a very good oportunity to use FIM.
FIM was designed especially for exchange data betweeen different SAP product.
FIM will provide an easy way to do the conversion using wizards and also will assure you about data inetgrity and quality.
This will be the way forward but more details has to be define during the implementation.

BO training with SAP Development background(ABAP)

HI guys. I just wanted to see what everyone's option is regarding Business objects development.
I have about 8 years of SAP development experience. Mostly with ABAP and web dynpro.
I have given the opportunity to take BO training for our future implementation.
Is there specific class you recommend me taking?
Would I benefit in the future if I have ABAP + BO development experience? or am I comparing apple and oranges here?
would it be better if I take BW(instead of BO)?

Our company is currently implementing SAP BPC and BO
I was given the opportunity to take some training but I am not sure which way to go about it.
I am leaning towards BO for the fact that it integrates with 3rd party software/DBs and I dont have to be tied to SAP till eternity.
But at the same time, I have some reservations going the BO way because of my many years of ABAP experience which I think BW will suit me better in the short term( less learning curve).
Can someone who has been in my shoes provide some insight into my future?
One of the reasons I am leading more towards BO is for the fact that HANA will provide most of the BW functionality build into it in the future. This argument alone makes me hesitant to invest myself in BW at this time.
Also , does BO have much to do with SAP BPC? I hear is that most of the development work will be done in EXCEL and BW? is this true? will there be need for BO developer?

ABAP dump during workstatus chaning in SAP BPC 7.5

We checked ST22 with ABAP Dumps. It contains the following:

Hi Pavel,
This is obviously a bug and it looks like from the code block you copied into the forum that there is an issue with the actual select statements dynamic where clause. I haven't specifically seen this bug but I recommend you do an SAP Note search on the following component EPM-BPC-NW-WS (for work status) in your search criteria put the class name that you found in the dump. This should help you find whether or not a correction has been created (i.e. an SAP note) that solves your issue.

SAP BPC 7.0 MS and Internet Explorer 8

Hello experts!!
Our company is considering 'upgrading' the Internet Explorer version from IE7 to IE8, and they have asked us if there will be some problems related with SAP BPC 7.0 MS.
We have search for informations in the forums and in the OSS Notes and there is one note 1391866, that doesn't recomend the use of IE 8.
Is there any Service Pack of BPC that solves that issue? Is possible to use SAP BPC 7.0 MS over IE 8?

Hi,
The use of IE8 for BPC 7 version is supported as of Service Pack 8 (see the PAM: https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/pam and type "Planning and Consolidation" in the search field).
Additionnaly, if you decide to install SP8 for 7.0, you should also install the mandatory patch 1. It's a mandatory one because of incorrect results being retrieved in reports while using EVGET function in a multi-hierarchy dimension.
So first, upgrade to SP8 flat version, and then upgrade again to patch1 for SP8:

I was wondering if there are any stress testing tools that can be used with SAP BPC 7.0 MS to simulate hundreds of users using the application simultaneously and thus testing the performance.

There are tools to perform the performance analysis of BPC, one is loadrunner. But be careful when defining the "hundreds of users using the application simultaneously"; There are many scenarios in my mind, where you could have several hundred users using BPC, but not sending or retrieving data at the exact same time. You might check the SAP sit eto see if any presentations are posted from the Sapphire conference this Spring.

Email notification for instance activation not working - SAP BPC 7.5

Hello Everybody,
I have a problem with email notification in SAP BPC 7.5.
I want to configure an email notification to whenever an instance is activated.
I have followed one How-To guide and basically I have created and activated a template in SAP GUI with transaction se38 and a program called UJB_MAINTAIN_EMAIL_TMPL.
Also, the web server was configured by systems admin.
But still is not working.
I am completely new with SAP BPC so I donu2019t know what more can I do to solve the problem.
