XCode can't be installed because the version of OS X is "too new"

I have Mountain Lion installed on both my iMac and my MacBook, and I'm trying to install XCode from the App Store. It installed on the MacBook without an issue, but when I try to install it on the iMac, I get an error that says "XCode can't be installed because the version of OS X is too new". Is there anything I can do about this? I'm running Mac OS X 10.8.0.
Thanks in advance

Never mind, solution found here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4135803?tstart=0

I'm trying to buy the FaceTime app from the App Store but a pop-up window gives me the message, "FaceTime can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because the version of OS X is too new." What gives? Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I forgot to mention that I accidentally deleted the app at one point. It's no longer in my applications folder. That's why I need to download FaceTime from the App Store.

  • Server can't be installed on "Server HD" because the version of OS X is too new

I'm attempting to install OS X Server 2.2.4 (Released 9/24/2014) on my Mac Mini Server (Late 2012). I'm receiving this message: We could not complete your update Server can’t be installed on “Server HD” because the version of OS X is too new
    Current software OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)

    Hi All,
I am in the same situation.
I updated to Maverick 10.9.5, rebooted the system, in App Store updates I get OS X Server to be updated to 2.2.4, but I can't because the os x version is too new.
If I search OS X Server in App Store I can see the latest version 3.1.2 not as update, I should by the new software 13.99£, why?
Is there a workaround about this?
This question gets asked pretty regularly, and does seem to be a longstanding bit of confusion with the OS X Server product packaging.
OS X Server is not a "permanent" purchase that'll upgrade and work across all new "major" OS X versions "forever".
If there's a new "cat" or a new "bit of California" (e.g. Mavericks, Yosemite) being advertised with OS X, expect there to be a new Server.app purchase to go with that upgrade.
The organization and underpinning of OS X move around occasionally (usually with these new "major" releases), which means Server.app also gets reworked.
In other words, roll in your backups and revert to the older OS X version and the older Server.app, or purchase the newer version of Server.app.  (Having started out when OS X Server was a US$1000 purchase, paying the current prices for a newer version of Server.app is rather easier to get past the purchasing department.)

  • Server can't be installed on "Machintosh" because the version of OS X is too new.

After installing yosesmite, i get the above message when trying to update to server 3.2.2. Server app is not working at the moment. Anyone else gets the same? Solution?

The Server apps are written for the specific OS.
There is a version in the App Store for Yosemite.

  • FaceTime cannot be installed because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

The Mac App Store program is telling me I can install FaceTime. I already have it installed, but the version in the App Store is dated last April, whereas my installed version is dated 2013, so it seems like the app store version should be an update.
However, when I try to install it, I get a message saying "FaceTime cannot be installed because the version of OS X is too new".
Is this just the Mac App Store program being stupid?
My installed version says version 3.0, but the app store version is 1.05.  This is a huge difference that needs explanation. Especially since it does not tell me that I have a newer version of the program already installed.

The App Store version of FaceTime is only for OS X 10.6. All later versions of OS X have it built in.

  • FaceTime: version of OS X is too new to install

Want to download Facetime but get the error "FaceTime can't be installed on [my computer] because the version of OS X is too new". I have 10.8.2
    What can I do?

I have been getting this message for awhile and finally decided to find out why. When I researched the version in the app store I found it is version 1.0.2 updated March 2011. The version I am using with mountain lion 10.8.2 is version 2.0 . So I think that the version we have from mountain lion is  newer and we don't need or want to update it even tough the appstore thinks we should. So I am sure glad I didn't go through the trouble of reinstalling mountain Lion or worse using some terminal command which would have removed the version I have which works fine.

  • Mac OS X Lion can't update iTunes because the update cannot be verified.

    Hello!
I just bought my MacBook Pro and installed the updates... however, when I try to update my iTunes (since it says version 10.6.3 is available) but when it's almost done I get a message stating it can't be installed because the "update cannot be verified". How do I upgrade my MacBook to the latest iTunes?

  • Help: install failure-Lion "can't be installed because recovery system can't be created.

After selecting c:/ drive for install (GUID, Journaled, Snow Leopard 10.6.8), the install procedure runs about 2 minutes then halts with message, Lion "can't be installed because the recovery system can't be created." What is a probable cause, and what is a solution? Anyone know? Is tehre a FAQ on this? Can't find one.

    I had similar issues.
The following article pointed me in a better direction:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20081398-263/os-x-10.7-cannot-be-installed-on-certain-drives/
I tried to go the partition route, but for some reason the operation failed.
I decided to attempt a Lion install again afterwards anyway, but once again it failed, but now my whole system was hosed and could not revert back to Snow Leopard.
I did a restore from time machine. Once that completed, I attempted to install Lion again, and ta da! it works now.
    What a pain.

  • This iphone can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes

This iphone can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes
I keep getting the above error everytime I plug in my iphone.
I am not daft, I do have the 64bit version of iTunes installed already. When I installed itunes 10.5 and more recently 10.5.1 I got an error message that rolls back a section of the installation (The updater I think) before finishing off installing iTunes.
After the installation iTunes will work normally apart from when I try to connect a device. At which point I get the title error message and I can not sync my phone.
It's probably down to Itunes not installing properly however no matter what I try I can not sort the problem out. I've tried uninstalling all apple programmes followed by a registry clean, then reinstall. I've tried the same again but in a specific order. I've tried repairing iTunes, repairing the updater etc etc. Nothing seems to work. I'm out of ideas.
Has anybody had this problem? Please can somebody tell me how to fix it!
Getting an iPad this Christmas and if I can't sync that up to my PC I may just have to go over to ANDROID!!!

Is there a way to install this on its own?
Yeah, let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunes64Setup.exe installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunes64Setup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunes64Setup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunes64Setup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • How come iTunes keeps saying:"this iPod can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64 bit version of iTunes?"  Wth...i am using the 64version.

Hi. How come iTunes keeps saying:"this iPod can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64 bit version of iTunes?"  Wth...i am using the 64 bit version of itunes. Why does it keep saying that? Will someone Help me please!? This is is getting frustrating. I already had done a full removal of everything! I even removed and deleted my library...then had to put all 500 songs back on one by one. So, i don't have to remove everything again, just to get my ipod to work on here. You, know before the itunes update, my ipod and itunes were working just fine.

wow, that was a quick reply. lol. but i have removed everything. I wasn't even able to get iTunes on my computer for a little while. i kept getting errors on that. Now it's saying that the required software isn't installed. Hmm, could it be referring to Apple Mobile Device Support? That is supposed to be installed with when iTunes gets installed right? I only ask, because that  didn't get installed with the itunes setup.

FaceTime is included in Lion. The App Store version is for 10.6. If you deleted it, restore it from a backup, or reinstall the Mac OS.
