XCode freeze at startup ... White window says "No Editor"

Hello,
sorry for my bad english. I have installed xCode 5 days ago, and i'm new with Apple Computers. When i installed it for the first time, it ask me if i want create a new project or load some other. I have choosen to load other project that i have previously downloaded ... I have choosen my disk as project path.
Since the firts launch, xCode crash at the startup. When i launch it, appear only the xCode bar and a blank window says"No Editor". When i move my arrow on the bar, appears the loading raimbow icon ... I have tried to uninstall the app, with the trash and with the sudo command. (I have also tried with AppCleaner to delete all the xCode files). I have tried to reinstall xCode many times with no luck (manually and with AppleStore).
Every time i have the same problem.
How can i solve it? How can i make a clean install of xCode?
(Because when i reinstall it, it doesn't ask me the first launch window with the open project ask).
I have no activated TimeMachine, so i can't restore my system to a previously status.
Can anyone help me please?

I have been trying to solve this problem for over a month. Ever since I was forced to upgrade to Lion to support OS 5.1, the xcode enviroment would not start. Like timurfromgeneve 23, I found the same solution advising to resintall under a new user and while it works, and like Tim points out, it is not a solution.
I am fairly new to MAC and up until this incident, I was mostly excited about the environment. Now... not so much but thank you Tim, because deleting everything under the Autosave Information directory did "seem" to solve this issue. It did not work right away, but when I forced Xcode to quit... it didnt shut down, but it was this time still there in the task bar with and option to simply quit. I instead selected one of my projects to open, and it did. After closing the project, everything started working normally.
I can say that this really makes me wonder about Mac's environment, I hate the fact that I had to use terminal to find this directory and learn the Unix command lines to find and delete the data. I don't know if the deletion or the odd behavior opening a project from the right click menu was what cleared the bad environment, but surely Apple needs to better document, or better yet, create an installation that works.
Thanks Tim.

  • Premiere Elements 3 Freezes on startup in Windows 7

I just loaded Premiere Elements 3 on a laptop with Windows 7 and it freezes on startup. I can't find any reference to drivers for Windows 7. I've used PE3 satisfactorily with Windows XP and want to continue to use it. Does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve upgrading to a later version or switching to another video editing program? I've already uninstalled and reinstalled.

Thanks for all three responses. Long story short: I've made progress to where Premiere Elements 7 now freezes *after* startup in Windows 7.
Neale: It's Windows Home Premium on a Sony VGN-NW270F with an Intel Core2 Duo T6600 2.2 GHz processor, with 4GB of memory. I hope this additional information is helpful in diagnosing my problems with PE3 version 3.02 and Windows 7.
Steve: I found I already had PE3 Version 3.02, so that was not the problem. However, I did uninstall and re-install, with no better results. I then poked around in the Windows 7 Help files and stumbled across the misnamed "Compatibility Manager" (it's really an "Incompatibility Manager"). When I set PE3 to run under XP Service Pack 2, PE3 finally started up. I then found I could load video files and edit them. But, after working on this for a few days, I tried to use the Transitions and Effects Button. That invariably sends PE3 off to La La Land, which only a power off will fix (I haven't had to power off so many times since I used Windows 95 and the early DOS systems, which doesn't seem like progress.)  So far, I haven't found a solution to this new freeze problem. Any suggestions as to what might make PE3 work properly?
You say that PE3 is a relatively old version of the program. Well, not that old -- "old" programs dated 2007 should work on operating systems released only two years later. However, I haven't upgraded from PE3 because it worked really well on my XP machine and subsequent releases of PE appear to be buggy. From what I've read in the Forum here, I wouldn't upgrade to PE8 because even that version doesn't seem to work well with Windows 7. I've wasted enough time on this already.
John: Unfortunately, I just have Windows 7 Home Premium, the plain vanilla OS.  So far, I am thoroughly unimpressed with Windows 7. New operating systems are supposed to bring advantages, not be incapable of running programs that ran under previous operating systems.
    Thanks,
    George

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - No splash screen

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses).  I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything.  When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears.  However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar.  I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1.  Nothing works.  The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today.  Go figure.
Edit:  I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects().  The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function).  There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

And, according to the Event Viewer, the "Binary" data translates to a zero-terminated Unicode string of "Cross-thread".
My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative.  All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related.  I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start.  That also did not work.
(And there is nothing in the Action Center control panel either despite the message saying there might be more information there.)
Edit:  The timestamp above might be a little odd-looking.  I didn't originally see anything in Event Viewer until I clicked the first button to send an Error Report.  Mostly I just skipped that part of killing a process.

  • Mac system freezes on startup, but Windows in Bootcamp still runs fine

A few days ago I tried to turn on my Macbook Pro (mid 2010 model, 15 inch)  but it only gave me a black screen and triple beeps. Thanks to this forum I found out it was a RAM problem. So I took it to a local certified mac repair shop and they cleared the RAM issue, but after I entered user name and password on start up, the Mac OS just boots to the desktop and freezes. I can't open any files or folders or apps. Strangely, the Windows in Bootcamp works perfectly--I can open local files and those on the Macintosh disk. The person at the store suggested that it could be a logic board problem or hardware failure. I'm not really buying that since Bootcamp still works (and also I'm reluctant to spend $500).  Anyone has any idea what the issue could be?

You COULD have the bad GPU found in some 15" mid-2010 MacBook Pros... you'd have to take your computer into an Apple Store or an AASP to find out.
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
             com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
             com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000->0x8378dfff

                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They should be more than willing to install a new logic board at no cost. I have no idea why this faulty GPU is making the headline here on the MacBook Pro forum so often now - could it be because Mountain Lion is just bringing the issue to a head more readily? I don't know - I only know that we're seeing more and more of these kernel panics of late.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

    I discovered this thread:

Essentially downloading the latest software update for Logic 9.1.6 fixed the problem without having to reinstall everything....

  • Firefox freezes, if clicked the screen goes white and says firefox is not responding. How do I fix this?

At seemingly random times, firefox freezes, and if clicked the screen goes white and says not responding. At times it makes watching any video impossible. I have tried everything I've seen in help forums. I've removed and reinstalled firefox, adobe, silverlight, realplayer, and anything else forums have suggested. So far the only effective solution I've read about this problem is to switch to google chrome. I'd rather not do this.

Start your '''Computer''' in safe mode. Then start Firefox. Try '''Safe''' web sites.
    Starting The Computer In Safe Mode;
If running, turn your computer off.
Remove any disks and thumb drives that are in your hard drives or ports.
    Now start your computer but also;
'''Windows; '''Press the <F8> key repeatedly.
'''Mac: '''Hold down the Shift key.
'''Linux; '''Using the command line, Linux/Unix computers can be booted
into various run levels that determine which resources are loaded.
For example, "runlevel 1" is typically the equivalent to Windows and
    Mac safe modes.
    * Source; '''[http://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/Linux+Safe+Mode Safe Mode; Free Online Encyclopedia]'''
When the '''Boot''' menu is displayed, release the key you were pressing.
    You must now choose what mode you want. The most used are;
    * Safe Mode; The computer runs with only a minimum set of programs.
    * Safe Mode '''With '''Networking; Same as above, but with internet access.

  • Cannot update to Vs. 3.6.15 freezes my PC every time, Windows says there is compatibility problem.

Firefox keeps telling me my vs. 3.5.17 is out of date and to update to 3.6.15, each time I attempt this it ends up freezing up my computer running Windows Vista. Checking for solutions, Windows says it is a compatibility issue. I have never had a problem updating FF previously.

Same issue here, my firefox is all messed up. I went to update it and now I cant even load yahoo mail, google, ect.... it just crashes everytime.
Now it wants me to install this plugin-container from mozilla. I don't wanna unless I know for sure it wont make things worse.

  • CS5 freezes on startup (Windows 7)

I'm considering making the jump from Vegas Pro 8 to Premiere. Downloaded the 30-day Trial for PPro CS5; it installs fine, but freezes on startup.
I've read everything I can find on this, tried all the ideas I've come across, but still no go; so I'm looking for more ideas!
    THE FAILURE:
On launch, PPro displays the splash screen, whizzes through all the plugin loading, draws the main UI background, draws the main menubar text... then freezes up. It never crashes, just stops drawing and stops responding to Windows. Same results from both 5.0 and 5.0.2.
    THE HARDWARE:
    Asus Sabretooth x58 motherboard
    Core i7 960 CPU (quad-core @ 3.2GHz)
    12GB RAM
    Dual-SSD main drive (RAID-0 on SATA-6Gb/s)
    GeForce 9800GTX video card
    Onboard Realtek HD Audio
    THE SOFTWARE:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (with all system software updates)
    Nvidia drivers 260.99 (latest, 10/16/2010)
OS was installed about a month ago, so it's pretty clean.
    WHAT I'VE TRIED:
Ran DXDIAG - No errors found.
    Deleted PPro Prefs
Checked PPro logs - no errors found
    Installed latest Nvidia drivers
Removed Nvidia drivers (back to Win 7 default drivers)
    Ran as admin
    Removed fonts
    No Quicktime Installed
    Installed Quicktime (7.6.8)
    Disabled second monitor
    Disabled antivirus/firewall (Symantec Endpoint Protection)
    Installed Combined Community Codec Pack
    Removed CCCP
Removed virtual DVD software (Virtual CloneDrive)
    Removed DVD burning software (ImgBurn)
What else am I missing? It's probably something obvious and dumb and I'm just looking around it. Any other info that would help? I could post my DXDIAG results, but I didn't see anything relevant in there.
Thanks a ton for any help!

Installing Bulk Codec Packs has been an issue of many systems around here.
Do a little search in this Forum  eg "CODEC PACKS"
Can you try uninstalling it and see how things work for you.  Common advice and wisdom seems to be that it is difficult to do and often requires a reinstall of the O.S as well as the Adobe software.  Hope thats not so for you.

After I posted post 2, I saw your other thread where you wrote about using Premiere Elements 12/12.1
Is Adobe force you to buy a update by stopping your old one? It doesn't work anymore.
The deleting or disabling of the OldFilm.AEX file has seemed to be the solution for the No Disc error specific
to Premiere Elements 13. So, I would ask, "What was the solution that you found for your Premiere Elements 12 No Disc?
    Thank you.

  • Many of my System Preferences will no longer work after installing Mountain Lion. Software update, startup disk, iCloud, etc. no longer will launch. I keep getting a drop down window saying I must restart system preferences in order to use. No go!

Many of my System Preferences will no longer work after installing Mountain Lion. Software Update, Startup Disk, iCloud, Time Machine, Notifications, etc. no longer will launch even though they do show their icons in the system preferences window. I keep getting a drop down window saying I must restart system preferences in order to use with a "Cancel" or "OK" choice. After I click on "OK" the window just keeps reappearing with the same choices and the pane I wish to use still remains inoperative. Third party preference panes DO work.
Reinstalling OSX Mountain Lion did not help. Neither did throwing away preferences.plist.

    Hi Jeff,
Tried to reply with my iPhone but not easy! Anyway, back on the laptop now. Yes the crash was bad but Tek support at Prism Sound was really good. In the end I rebuilt the whole system on a new disk which took a couple of days with all the plugins, softsynths etc.... but there seemed to be no alternative in my case, and this was agreed with Prism sound as being the only alternative left to me. I still don't really know what caused the crash but ML and Orpheus are both working fine now. Let's face it, you'll have to update at sometime..maybe best to pick some time between projects On balance, I suspect that my problems were unique to my system and that your installation will go ok.
    Hope it goes well,
    Rick

  • Lenovo T500 freezes at startup when updating to newest ATI driver (Windows 7 RC x64)

Hi I have a big problem with my lenovo T500. I installed Windows 7 RC x64 to my lenovo T500 (2082-53G) and when I install the ATI catalyst beta driver x64 v9.6 from ATI's homepage, my computer freezes at startup (some activity on HD but I can't move my mouse and many processes faile to start at boot). Problem occurs only when win7 beta driver for system interface or ricoh multicard reader is installed because it worked ok until I installed those drivers. I'm not the only one facing this problem: http://www.windows7news.com/forum/windows-7-hardware-help/lenovo-t500-thinkpad-wdm-radeon-3650-drive...
Please help me and thanks in advance!

My T400 did this. I installed Win 7 with integrated, installed the ATI 9.6 suite, and never really tried the discrete for the first few days. Then when I tried it, it would instantly freeze at the Welcome screen and the loading circle would just freeze up.
I uninstalled the device and chose remove driver in device manager, and reinstalled the one from 7's original install and it still did this. Mine would just sit there and freeze up after the welcome screen when using discrete, however integrated always worked. I could only boot up in discrete with Safe Mode with Networking.
I ended up doing a system restore to right after I installed Windows, before I installed the ATI 9.6, (4 days ago, so not too bad for me) and booted straight into discrete. Windows update installed the driver for me, now it works perfectly. I am currently using the discrete card with no freeze up issues in the last day.
If you can't do that, you may have to reformat, just let windows handle the ATI driver itself (boot into discrete while installing) and it should work.
I wish I could get the higher performance drivers, but I assume they will figure this issue out and fix it soon with the next driver release.
    Hope that helps you out.

Mac Mini freezes at startup for both mac and windows. Any Ideas?

Thanks for getting back so quickly. But, it worked. I did what you said and now it works doing a normal boot to in both Windows and Mac. I wonder what went wrong, as both operating systems didn't boot (I tried numerous times).
    Anyway, thanks.

My Organizer freezesup after opening. A dropdown window says updating. How can I correct?

What happens if you wait for the updating to complete?
If you leave it to complete the task you may then be able to adjust your preferences for watch folder and auto-analyzer; so that it doesn’t happen in future.

  • MSI P45-8D problem: reboot after loading startup services (windows seven 64bit)

    hi guys!
I decided (buying a cooler master elite 360) to keep my Memory Lover (whit ddr3/ich10r, pci-ex 2.0), which is actually the 'best purchase for me (rather than a G41 mATX) .
But then, after I had solved the problem of overheating in the pci-ex, and I put the board in its box for weeks, now has a new problem:
Continuous blocks & reboots just after loading startup services windows seven!
    The setup is this:
     Windows Seven 64bit
     MOBO MSI Memory Lover
     CPU Xeon L3110
     VGA MSI Radeon HD5450 1gb ddr2 fanless
     DDR3 1333 4GB
PSU Tacens Radix V mATX 35Watt Velociraptor + Caviar Green
     DVD burner (sata)
Esi pci-ex sound card connect module
Creative Xtreme Gamer (disconnected for now)
I have many ram models that I can put in:
     kingston lovo 4gb 1333
     4g-skill eco 4gb 1333
     adata green 4gb 1333
     corsairs white 8gb 1600
All memories can work undervolt at 1.35volt, but-of course-I keep them in standard 1.5Volt for more stability
I also tried a single 2gb stick at a time, but nothing has changed
when the system reboots (I infer) windows finished loading all the startup services (including antivirus, network drivers, audio drivers, etc. ..). and I can say with near certainty, that the last major service that is loaded, is the catalyst control center ...
I suspect an incompatibility with Memory Lover &  the Video Card's ATI driver ..
I also tried to uninstall and clean with driver sweeper, but the problem remains ..
Besides this I also have a problem with the temperature of the processor xeon l3110 (45watt tdp)
cpu heatsink as I have a Arctic Freezer LP 11 (Capacity Cooling 100W).
with thermal compound pre-installed I had 60/70 degrees recorded.
I changed the thermal compound with the famous Prolimatech pk-1 and now I measure 80/90 degrees ...(and I've changed a lot of thermal compound that I put with my eyes closed)
now, this is not possible because:
-I know the processor, I kept in daily use at 3Ghz with a noctua nh-U9B se2, and in summer never exceeded 40 degrees (d 'winter was about 30 degrees)
     - Either with the Scythe kama thermo, that with my finger, the heatpipes of the Freezer 11 LP, the Mosfet, the NB & SB are all cold .. the 5450 is 40 degrees or so, but it is fanless, and its temperature is in its normal ..
What can you tell me of my two problems:
     - Continuous reboots after loading windows seven
     - High temperature cpu (probably not real)
I remind you that a few months ago the team & Memory Lover Xeon L3110 worked perfectly.
The PSU is a new 350Watt Tacens Radix V mATX ... the system at idle consumes 70/80 watts (measured at the wall) ... I think it Is not a problem of the little power supply for the needs of my system ..
and anyway I can try to use an old Enermax 450watt Liberty, which I keep for emergencies..
     thanks
     max

    guys,
     I solved the problem!
the sink was installed wrong, and did not touch on the processor!!!
the problem was the mosfets around the cpu that make thickness in height ..
the thermal paste was put well and ... still immaculate!
processor took about 20 (or more) of restarts and very high working temperatures!
     it rocks!!
I can now say that the 'AC Freezer 11 LP is sensational!
The Xeon L3110 (with EIST, C1E & Acpi active together, That downclok it) works now to 23-25 degrees!!
     I have installed the ddr3 kingston 4gb Lovo 1333 + 8GB Corsair 1600 1.35Vram white.
(with 12GB, I can easily do a large Ramdisk for temporary files).
I installed hd5450 driver manually, but still the catalyst control center does not appear at startup
here is the screen of the situation:
finally...but how did I doubt the quality of this MSI board?

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 freezes on startup

    Hi,
I am having issues with Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, When I first load the software, it asks me if I want to use the "Organize" or the "Edit". When I choose "Edit", it loads the program, but I am unable to click on any options or toolbars as it freezes for around 3 minutes (says not responding) until it eventually kicks in and loads, I am then able to use the software perfectly.
On startup, is it trying to run updates or talk to Adobe for any reason, and can I turn this off?
Also, has anyone had the same problem? Help would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Ian

OK let’s deal with the Editor. The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst double clicking on the desktop icon for PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Wait whilst it rebuilds the preferences.
