Xcode: Live streaming photo slideshow screensaver

I have 500 real nice photos of Santa Fe that I want to put into a streaming screensaver. Each photo is memory intensive, about 700k. I want to randomly download each image on-demand from my server rather than have the installer download all 315MB. So I need your help with Xcode, as I have no experience with it. All I can offer is the free slideshow, which looks great on a huge screen.

700k is not "memory intensive" by any standard, and they would still have to download the images before they could be displayed, so what would be the point?

  • Streaming Photos in Screensaver

I am streaming photos now, and have un-synced my main computer. Everything is streaming and the ATV hard drive is empty except for the OS.
It will not use my streamed photos in the screensaver when playing music. It only uses the appe default photos.
So, do photos have to be synced for them to play in the screensaver while listening to music?
If so, why? This would be shortsighted. I want my streamed photos to play in screen saver mode while my music is on.
It seems obvious, but it doesn't happen.

I plan on making my streamed source available all of the time.
Music in a screen saver not a popular request? Well, I have read that many people believe the defining characteristic of ATV to be the screensaver while the music is playing. I feel this way, too. It's like a substitute for the visualizer but with your on content.
Perhaps you misunderstand. I want the screensaver to play my streamed photos while my music is playing. It is already like this for synced photos. If you don't want music all the time in your screenssaver, there should be an option to turn it off. Slideshows are for showing individual photos. I want that 3-D effect of my photos rising up on the screen in various sizes to play with my streamed photos. As I said, it will already do it with synced photos.
What I 'm saying is that I don't really want to use the hard drive at all for the storage of content. In fact, I'd rather plug in a USB hard drive into the back of the ATV.
At any rate, the point is that streamed photos cannot be played as a screensaver while listening to music at this point. I thought it would surely be possible, since it is with synced photos, but this new feature in iTunes didn't make it possible.
Does slideshow have a way to display photos in that 3-D way, with the photos moving up the screen?

  • Live Stream with Slideshow (jpg), possible?

    Hi guys,
I'm wondering if the live encoder has the ability to sync images with a live stream. I'd like to store all the images in one folder and push through a call on each slide during the presentation for the image to appear on screen. Obviously it'll never be 100% live but a little delay isn't a problem.
Accordent currently do this with PresenterPlus but i'm in search of a flash version which seems to be Live Encoder minus the slideshow.
    Thanks in advance,
    Blake

On the Macintosh side there is the Camtwist app which allows you to do this and it works smoothly with FMLE. On the PC side I´m not sure but there just got to be more apps capable of this than on the mac side.

  • Windows 7 Live Photo Gallery Screensaver

I use windows 7 and the live photo gallery screensaver.  Recently I am getting this:
An error is preventing this slide show from playing.
If I change the screen saver to photos it works fine.  Both Photos and Windows Live Photo Gallery point to the same picture directory.  This likely rules out directory permissions or corruption of the photos that Live Photo Gallery is trying to
    display.
How do I fix this?  (I use 64 bit windows 7 ultimate)

  • Slideshow Screensaver wont recognize photo folders

Slideshow Screensaver on my Mac Pro displays a message that there are no photos in "this" folder regardless of which folder I "point it" to.
What might I do to address this issue?
    Thank you.

Compare the file types in your folder to the system screensaver folder that DO work
    /Library/Desktop Pictures
Do you need to convert to a different format?

  • Stream Photos to ATV without slideshow??

    Hi -
Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.
Can I stream photos from iTunes to ATV without using the slideshow?
I'd like to either browse my photo library (like in ituens or my touch) or at least 'next' and 'previous' at will with my remote (ATV remote or touch Remote app - either is fine).
    Can this be done?
    THANKS!

OK - there is some strangeness now.
It seems that if you chose to "sync", then you can still stream from iTunes everything except Photos.
    That's how it should work
When setup for "sync" you cannot access photos, and everything else is based on playlists, and what is checked within iTunes. Photos must be synced to the ATV.
You can access photos, sure you're looking in my photos not shared photos.
It's not all just playlist based, you can choose specific movies, tv shows etc and choose music by artist etc.
When setup for "stream" you can access anything in iTunes, whether it is checked or not. For example, I have about 700 podcasts, and I can get them all when streaming, but only the checked ones when set on sync.
Again that's how it's supposed to work, syncing gives you far more control than streaming.

  • Personal Photos in Screensaver Streaming-Sync How?

I currently have sync disabled on the AppleTV because I have a large library and multiple servers.
I want to sync only photos to the AppleTV so they will show in the screensaver (is there another way?)
How can I enable sync ONLY for photos from one of the servers I am streaming from...Is this possible?
I'm afraid to enable sync because I am worried it will attempt to sync my sources which is too much for the AppleTV..
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thank you!!

So it sounds like you are saying I need to:
    1. define 1 computer as the sync computer.
    2. Only set the photos to sync on this computer
This will allow the photos to sync to the Apple TV...
    Yes
Can this same computer stream the rest of the content? Or does that need to be a different computer? In other words, can the same computer be defined as the "sync" AND a stream source?
The same computer will sync and stream (or at least the photos are available from the tv source menu and the my library source list - whether those in the my library source list actually stream or whether they are taken from the tv HD, I'm not sure), however they are essentially the same list. ie you can't see photos in my library source list that you haven't selected to sync to the tv.
**Also..why do the streamed albums' artwork work for the screensaver and not the streamed photos? bug or feature ;-)?
You likely use the tv a couple of hours a day at most, the rest of the time the screensaver is active, whether or not you actually choose to view it. Streaming photos for the screensaver would result in 24/7 streaming, which I don't believe would be what most people would want, it would just hog your network.

  • Streaming QuickTime photo slideshow

    Hey,
Will Mac OS X Server do what I'm looking to do?
I have an office with about 300 people in it.
    I would like to have
    1. a computer displaying a photo slideshow of employees with a short bio of them.
    2. a website where employees can browse the photos and bios.
I would like it to be very easy to add/remove employees (i.e., drop a photo and a text file with a bio into a folder when someone is hired, remove it when they leave; something with that level of simplicity).
I thought maybe Podcast Producer and the Mac Web Server could work together to do something like this. Can they?

So I tried this with 2 different 3GS iPhones and 2 different Apple TV's. At the local Apple store and got sideways slideshows every time.  Is anybody at Apple looking into this?

  • Synch AND stream photos?

So, Apple TV sounded like just what I was looking for- the wireless ability to view photos from my collection on my TV, as well as play music via iTunes on my home system.
No issues with the music, but after two weeks of frustration I am ready to give up on the photo aspect. This is what I would like to do-
-Syncing (and then keeping) the very best of my image library on Apple TV for use as a screensaver, or to present slideshows for guests, at any time.
-Being able to stream from the remainder of my photo library if desired, without losing the sync'd content.
-I do not want to be locked into using iPhoto!
Can this be done, or am I just beating my head against the wall?
Yes, I have browsed through the discussions, and have seen winston's "explanations" on syncing vs streaming, and libraries,, but they have done nothing to clear up my issues with Apple TV.
Quite frankly, I am ready to toss this frustrating piece of crap back in the box and return it.

I have been able to setup an AppleTV that streams music and photos from one account (the "main" account), and then in another user, link the AppleTV to sync with a different iTunes and iPhoto libraries. It does involve 2 user accounts on the computer (at least in my scenario).
If starting from a fresh AppleTV, link the AppleTV to the second user account (not the "main" one where you have your complete libraries). In iTunes, tell it to sync and copy your select pictures (and if you want some music/movies on the AppleTV, copy those to that user's libraries as well). Then (if memory serves correct), you want to go to Settings -> Computers -> Add Shared (or Stream?) and click add. Then in your "main" account, you should see the AppleTV in the Devices list in iTunes, click it and enter the code, and then tell iTunes to stream photos from iPhoto (or Aperture or a folder) and tell it to stream/share your music.
After you set up the stream/shared computer, you will see "Shared Pictures" and "Shared Music" in the bottom of the lists (2.x and 3.x). If you only have 1 shared source, it will load it automatically; if not, it will ask which source you want.

  • Apple TV still streaming photos?

How/why are my iPhoto photos still showing up on my AppleTV after my MacBook got stolen? I thought that my MacBook had to be online on my Home Sharing network in order for this to happen?

Are you referring to your screensaver photos.
Screensaver photos are saved on the Apple TV itself, only the photos you view in your slideshows are streamed from the computer itself.

I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

  • Apple TV Streaming iPhoto Slideshow/Streaming Music Playlist

For some reason my Apple TV lists Photo-Settings-Music>Off and I can't change it. I have a Music Playlist selected in iPhoto Slideshow settings on my iMac that I stream from but I'm getting no music when streaming photos to Apple TV. I thought the Apple TV listed my streaming playlists before but it seems to have oddly disapeared. I've rebooted both my iMac and Apple TV but no change. I've also disconnected from my iTunes libary and reconnected but it still hasn't corrected this problem. Am I missing a menu for this option somewhere on the Apple TV? Thank you for any assistance that you can provide.

Although you have only one library and stream only there are essentially 2 ways to look at setting this up.
You can set your library up as a shared (or secondary library) in which event it can only stream content.
Or you can set your library up as a primary library in which event it will have streaming and syncing capabilities, even though you don't actually select anything to sync.
Think of this as syncing turned off vs syncing turned on but with no items syncing. I do believe unless you set things up the latter way your music library won't be available to use in conjunction with slideshows.
This does of course mean that you would then need to sync your photos from your primary library. Primary libraries require that photos are synced. If you had any secondary libraries they would then be able to stream their photos and use the music from the primary library for slideshows.

  • TS2972 no photo slideshow on Apple tv3

Have set up recently purchased apple tv 3 - set up home sharing and selected photos to share from itunes. These load fine, show up individually on the apple tv, but no image appears when selecting slideshow.
Sometimes the screen shows loading and pinwheel, then this freezes, otherwise the screen is blank.
All photos appear loaded in photo screen and individually enlarge when selected.
Screensaver doesn't work at all, unless 'Floating' mode selected.
    Any solutions to this?

I had this exact same problem with my 3rd generation Apple TV up until yesterday. I also have a 2nd generation Apple TV which wasn't having the problem and was able to display photo slideshows.
Just in case anyone else is still having the same problem. The solution for me was to restore my Apple TV to factory settings.

  • How can I share a photo slideshow

How can I share a photo slideshow?

You turn on Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane:
Check the box "Automatic Upload" to add every photo imported into the library to the Photo Stream.  Or leave it unchecked and manually add just selected photos to the stream by dragging them onto the Photo Stream heading in the left hand pane.
