Xcode update:  version of Mac OS X is too new

In 10.6.8 I had Xcode 4.0 that I downloaded from the App Store. Then I upgraded to Lion 10.7.1. Xcode now must update but AppStore says:
We could not complete your purchase
Xcode Install Assistant can’t be installed on “Boot”
because the version of Mac OS X is too new.
Ok, that's a hilarious error message, one of the best I've encountered, nevertheless I really need Xcode.
Any ideas?

I have had the same problem and followed your link to download the new version of SL XCode for my Lion OS.
Now I have 2 Entries in my Apps purchased list and the Update button on the old XCode version ist still there.
How can I get it away?
You can't take it off. Just delete the old Xcode installer (look at the version number by selecting the Xcode installer and pressing command+i in the finder. The one that equals the Xcode from the link I posted is the new one)

Lion comes with FaceTime. Look in your dock or in the Applications folder.

  • FaceTime can't be installed on "Macintosh HD" because the version of Mac OS X is too new. I removed all traces of FaceTime and still not able to install from App store. New to macbook pro with Lion

FaceTime is included in Lion. The App Store version is for 10.6. If you deleted it, restore it from a backup, or reinstall the Mac OS.

FT can't be installed on "mac hd" because the version of mac os x is too new !!!!!plz help :(:(:(:(:(:(

And with that patronizing response, I'm outa here. Good luck.
Not sure why you marked it as solved. A mistake I guess.

  • FaceTime can't be installed on "HDD Name" because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

    on AppStore it says:
FaceTime can’t be installed on “HDD Name” because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

After upgrading my MacBook to Lion, FaceTime (purchased from the App Store) quit working. It would just hang when I'd hit the button to "Turn on FaceTime".
So from a terminal, I deleted:
    /Applications/FaceTime.app/
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FaceTime.plist
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.FaceTime/
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.FTMonitor.plist
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.FaceTime.*
Now, when I go to the App Store to install FaceTime, I get the same error as the OP.

  • FaceTime can't be installed on "Sosa" because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

FaceTime can’t be installed on “Sosa” because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

And what is your OS X version then ?
The Facetime dwnload form the Mac App Store is for OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard only.
In OSX 10.7 Lion Facetime is already included.

  • FaceTime cannot be installed because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

The Mac App Store program is telling me I can install FaceTime. I already have it installed, but the version in the App Store is dated last April, whereas my installed version is dated 2013, so it seems like the app store version should be an update.
However, when I try to install it, I get a message saying "FaceTime cannot be installed because the version of OS X is too new".
Is this just the Mac App Store program being stupid?
My installed version says version 3.0, but the app store version is 1.05.  This is a huge difference that needs explanation. Especially since it does not tell me that I have a newer version of the program already installed.

The App Store version of FaceTime is only for OS X 10.6. All later versions of OS X have it built in.

  • Locked-out: "You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X because a newer version is installed

Absolute rookie move. Bought a Mac Mini server (June 2012 model) on E-bay and it came with the previous owner's log-in account still on it. Tried to re-install 10.6 server software with the CDs that came with it but  got the message "You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X because a newer version is installed". Any advice on how I can fix this? I'm hoping I didn't buy a brick that I can't do anything with.
    Any help is much appreciated.

What OS X software is installed on the box?  OS X, or OS X Server?
If it's a newer OS X version and you want OS X Server from the installer disks, wipe the disk and reinstall.
Officially, it's not likely that a recent Mac Mini Server would even officially support something as old as OS X Server 10.6; here's the list of the minimum versions (HT1159) — I don't see a June 2012 model, the closest to that acquisition date would probably be a mid-2011 Mac Mini or Mac Mini Server model, and those require OS X or OS X Server 10.7, or later.
OS X 10.7 also didn't usually arrive with DVD disks, so that may be an old DVD from some other box.
To confirm the Mac Mini model, see  > About This Mac > More Info...

  • My mac book pro says "mac os x is too new for and cannot upgrade FaceTime"

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro w/Retina for my fiance and while setting it up it needed some updating. I started the update and for Facetime it will not update. There is a message that keeps popping up everytime I click on install and it says "Mac OS X is too new and can not update at this time." Can anyone help?

Hi, you say you are new, does that mean your hardware and software are also new? The trick here is to do some research to determine if your machine and your levels of software meet Lion minimum requirements (google any buzzwords that I use). For example, Office 2011 is fine, probably 2008 as well, but not Office 2004. This type of determination should be made for all your 3rd party software. Apple software is easier, you have to make sure all software updates are applied and you are at the SNOW leopard level of 10.6.8 before you start to install Lion. Hope this helps.

  • HT3204 Why can't I update my ipod version 2.2 to version 4.2? I have an updated version of Mac Os snow leapord, an updated version of iTunes but I  am still getting an error message. I have a cart of 30 ipods and none of them will update.

I am trying to upgrade an ipod cart of version 2.2 ipods to 4.2 so that I can download apps that
require this version. When I try to update any of the ipods I keep getting an error message that
culminates with an error -1. I cannot believe that they all have hardware errors. Any ideas of what to
try next? I have an updated copy of Snow Leopard with all current updates and an updated version
of iTunes with all current updates.

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke.  Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that.  Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what  I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. IF apple decides to drop the Mac Pro for good, and that's a big "IF", I think they will anger a whole bunch of people
which isn't good. However, that hasn't happened...YET. Let us hope that it doesn't

The links I found here (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html) are both for Windows, althought one is named "MacIntosh".
The beta version seems to have problems on Mac OS 10.9 (it is impossible to quit the application).

  • Using iPhoto-updated version on mac mini, how do I see photos through iCloud on my ipad2?

I have a mac mini where we have 3K pictures.  These are all in iphoto and we just purcased the ipad2 and are using icloud, but we cannot see pictures that are stored on the mac mini.  Need help

iCloud is a method of getting photos from one device to another, not a way of viewing files. So, if you want to add the photos to your iPad, add them to the Photostream on your Mac.

    Hi selleck56,
If it appears that Time Machine backups are going very slowly or are stopped, you may want to use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -
