Xdcam ex question - progressive vs interlance ?

hi
i will be shooting a video soon with the ex3 and i'm still not sure whether to shoot P or I.
if i shoot interlace and change the field dominance from upper to none, will i be getting the same progressive look that i would get while shooting progressive ?
in that case its better to shoot I and then decide upon the results whether to change it to P... the video is intended for projection using an HD projector.
also, for the smoothest movements and pans using a dolly and a fluid 7 tripod, would P or I give the best result ?

I never shoot interlaced if there is the option, I like knowing each frame is made from the same point in time. Exporting progressive material to interlaced works great.

I edit a TV series that I deliver as XDCAM HD discs. I export, with the help of Sony plug-ins, from a Final Cut timeline to a Sony XDCAM HD disc recorder. I can't find anything online about whether this is possible with Premiere. Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi Ron,
I don't have a machine handy, but try this:
Export Op1A MXF files:
HD422 50 Mb requires 8 x 24 bit mono
HD420 35 Mb requires 2 or 4 ch of 16 bit mono
You should be able drop it into the clips folder on the disc.

EX1 to ProRes Blackmagic Intensity Pro?

Recently, I've worked in an XDCAM EX 1080i 50 timeline, then converted to SD with Compressor.
I understand it would have been better to work in ProRes and as I'm about to start a new project I've been searching around, but for the life of me I can't find any info on a workflow for this.
Do I import the BPAV files and wrap them using Clip Browser before converting to ProRes, or can I import footage directly from the camera +(via the Intensity Pro card)+ to ProRes without re-compressing?
Nearly all my footage is shot outdoors in a field.

then just choose Import/files/XDCAM
The question is really whether I can use the Intensity Pro card to import direct from the camera to ProRes without having to go to XDCAM first +(and thereby recompressing the footage)+.

Having some issues tweaking the Blog Post List Layout to output to adobe Muse

So basically, I have watched the videos on BC Gurus and have posed the question on modifying the blog module in muse to get output I want. when I use module {module_blogsitepost} it does not show all the information I want, but when I click a url to a blog post, it jumps to another page that shows the "BLOG TITLE", "BLOG DESCRIPTION", "RECENT POST", TAGS, and "ARCHIVE" which I think would be helpful on the main {module_blogsitepost} module.
So, i took the tags from the "OVERALL BLOG LIST MODULE" which does have that information and pasted into the module {module_blogsitepost} which in BC under modules is Blog Post List Layout. However the output just turns to the image below:
I really do not know what I am doing wrong, if anything at all. Is this a limit of the cooperation between adobe MUSE and BC? Should not make a difference if I am copying all the HTML and passing it into the HTML view of the Module I want. Why is there not a bracket { } module for "OVERALL BLOG LIST MODULE" on the http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/134/bc_1345.html ?
It is strange that there are modules in BC that do not show code strings to generate the output shown on this list? Is it because this capability is limited? It is strange. Please jump over to my site ( http://furnitureassemblyservice.com/blog.html ) to see what I mean. BTW, I added the Tags Module to the site so that at least shows.
One other question.. And maybe this is a Muse question, I try to add text or objects to the side of the blog entry but they are pushed to the bottom? Not sure if I need to add this into an object with the Module and mark it up in html with a table to make that work? I ask because I am trying to monitize the blog and add banners to the side or top.

choose two disjoint teams of 4 such that the sum of their practice times

Quick interlace/progressive question

Not EXACTLY FCP related, but I know there's a lot of professionals out there who might be able to answer this:
I know there's been several threads about the difference in viewing on your computer monitor (progressive) and an NTSC monitor (interlaced). I was wondering, though, about HD monitors/TVs. Are all HD monitors/TVs progressive, or are there interlaced ones. I shoot 60i (on a Canon XL2, SD) and some of the videos are displayed on a Sanyo DP26746 "Integrated" HDTV. Now, the manual says that the scanning format is 720p (the only one listed). Not my choice in monitors (my boss bought it even though he knows I'm shooting SD). Now it just looks like I'm playing it on my computer monitor.
So here's my FCP-related question:
Anything I export (no matter what compression) will not look like "video" will it? I mean, look like it was taped before a live studio audience, not filmed...the way "The Cosby Show" looks versus "Cheers". Is this HDTV just a big computer monitor?
BTW, my friend has an HDTV at his house with digital cable, and the SD content on the local HD channels look pretty good (better than regular SD...obviously not HD quality, but better than over-the-air stuff). Why doesn't my SD stuff look a lot better on this Sanyo HDTV? Is it related to the progressive vs. interlaced situation?
And no, Shane and Jim, I'm not trying to convert progressive to interlaced in case you were going to bring up this post.

Progress bar question

i am loading a .jpg into a holder movie clip. easy enough.
but i want a progress bar that will show the progress then go away
when it is complete. im trying to use an if statement to get it to

I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.

Question about renaming XDCAM source and targets

Using XDCAM, is it okay to rename the source folder after you've transferred it? Same with the folder your transferring to. Okay to rename it before or after you've transferred the footage?

I copy the SxS card to an external drive into a folder with a given name like CH-1. Then I change it to CH-Howe. I've thought about it and I don't think that has any bearing on anything. And I believe transfer is the wrong word. This is an XDCAM import (possibly capture). Once it's imported, the question then becomes what if I change the name of the folder the files were imported to? That seems straightforward, too. I simply reconnect or relink the media.

How do I add a progress monitor to a drag and drop question in captivate 7

I need to build a quiz. We have spent a lot of time on the style guide and appearance but I am having difficulty adding a progress monitor to my drag and drop questions. How can I do this?

A Drag&Drop is not a normal question slide, hence that progress indicator is not added, and it wouldn't even be functional.

Progressive scanning and Field Dominence questions

Beginning questions. I will be making simple video movies mostly for viewing on Macbook Pro, maybe on TV, but unlikely.
I have some settings questions. I will shoot with miniDV Sony DCR-VX2100, 16 bit, 48 khz, NTSC.
The camera has a setting: Progressive On/Off (normal). The (rather confusing) manual suggests Progressive for more stable stills, otherwise use normal for moving images.
Should I use Progressive Off? And what setting for Field Dominance, in FCE?

For regular shooting I'd leave it off. A fast shutter and good lighting will give pretty good stills in off mode.
If you need (rarely) rock solid stills then switch it on if you like.
Lower field dominance for DV. When you select the correct Easy Setup in FCE all the leg work is done.
You should use Easy Setup>DV-NTSC. Set this and Save before capturing to your Sequence.

Totally bizarre XDCAM HD + FCP import question

I have filmed 40+ discs on XDCAM HD 50GB discs at 50MBs. These were then logged and captured using Sony's XDCAM pluggin for Final Cut Pro 6.5.
When the project file was taken on the drive with all the media etc and plugged into a macPro pro (2 x 2.26Ghz quad core 8GB ram) the project file could not see 1052 of the media files and asked to reconnect them. Something I didn't want to have to do for each file!
I then shot another job using XDCAM HD but this time at 35mbs per
second and on 23GB disks. Again it was logged on site using the laptop and again the desktop failed to recognise the
media for 626 out of 2685 shots.
I have updated the desktop to FCP 7.0.1. and it still doesn't see
them. I tried my friend’s desktop and it can't see these files either.
The files that can't be seen are in the lower part of the browser
which is in alphabetical rather than disc order (i.e. imported at totally random times). However there is
also a bin full of shots from just one disc at the bottom of the
browser and none of those files can be seen either.
When the projects are returned to the laptop that logged and captured them – it can see everything.
Not sure what to do
Does FCP have a limit on the number of files associated with a project? Or a reason why it would fail to see such a large number of files?
I am truly in the dark on this.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I haven’t responded in a while but I haven’t been lazy on this as I’ve been trying out a range of options.
Firstly I have tried the projects on another high spec Desktop and it refused to link the last third (roughly) of media as before.
Reconnecting the media files also doesn’t work.
You can find them using ‘Locate’ or ‘search’ but then once you click on the file it doesn’t appear in the ‘Files Located’ box below as it should it just disappears from the list of files to be found.
Is it a memory problem?
Clearly it is a large project and sometimes FCP can’t play the files it is showing in the browser because it is out of memory.
But I have a DVCPRO HD project that is 3 times as big at 1.5 TB which opens and plays perfectly well.
It also fails to see the files even if they have been put away in lots of separate bins.
Which brings us back to the original bizarre point of the question.
Why does it open and play OK on a laptop with less memory and less processing speed?
And why is it not connecting the final third of the media?
And why does this group of 1051 to 1061 unconnected/offline files change according to how they are arranged in the browser i.e. final third alphabetically or final third in reel order etc etc.
Please can anyone suggest any other avenues for me to try … it is driving me crazy.

Progressive Design Website Question

I have made a new site and it's my first attempt at progressive design.

I am testing the progressive functionality of the site by dragging the browser window to it's narrowest width and observing how the website re-flows and images re-size. I think I may have some problem with the header section but I'm not sure.
What I'm trying to achieve is that when the browser is narrowed the header logo re-sizes, the contact info just disappears off the screen and the nav menu re-flows. It pretty much works that way as I have it.
1) On all of the pages, at a certain point while dragging the browser to a narrower width, a horizontal scroll bar appears. Is this normal or should this scroll bar not be appearing at all?
2) On the pages that have 2 main content columns "websites", renderings", "blog" and "about" when the browser is at it's narrowest width there is no horizontal scroll bar. Everything appears as I want it to. On the other pages "index/home" and "contact when the browser is at it's narrowest width there is a horiz scroll bar. It may have something to do with the 2px border but I am thinking it may also be related to the contact info in the header. I can't figure out how to make it go away.
If anyone can look at this and offer any advice it will be most appreciated. Also any other comments or criticism about my first attempt at progressive design will be welcome.

Question about plugging in an ajax progress bar component onto a black-box.

I have the following problem: I want to integrate an ajax progress bar component to a j2ee application and I am in reference to the following pattern (https://bpcatalog.dev.java.net/nonav/ajax/progress-bar/design.html). It seems I need for the "task" component to return the percent. The problem I have is that I am calling a legacy method (i.e. as400) that does not return a percent as it is to me only a black-box. Here is a snippet of what it looks like to me:

That's not a legacy method. The latest version of JTOpen was issued less than a month ago. And note that it's open-source, so you could change it yourself to provide percent-complete data. (Of course you'd have to be able to get that data from the underlying iSeries command.)
It wouldn't be easy, but if you think about it for a minute you'll realize that you can't display percentage complete in a progress bar unless you have some way of finding out what percentage the task has actually completed.
