  • Unable to capture Canon HDV footage with Sony v1u camera

I'm trying to capture hdv footage filmed with a canon video camera with my sony v1u.  My sony footage captures as it should, but the canon footage, although playing fine on the sony camera, will not capture to cs4.  Any suggestions?

Check all camera settings and make sure they match the original filming mode on the other camera... and veryify your PPro settings match
If that doesn't work, try http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

  • Sony EX1 Footage – codec?

Have some footage that is supposedly from a Sony PMW EX1 camera. Some of the files have digital glitching (blocky images, spurts of bad audio noise). The footage is glitched in the Sony media browser and in Premiere Pro CS6. When scrubbing a sequence with this footage, it occasionally gets red and blue spots.
This sounds like a codec issue to me, but I can't find any update for this format. Has anyone else here encountered this issue with EX1 footage?
    Production Premium CS6
    Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit

The problem also affects Cannon XF camera footage. We've been working with Adobe Support for several weeks trying to get them to provide us with a working licence for CS5.5 until they fix the issue. There has been no help yet. They had me send a sample clip in, then told me what I already knew, that there was nothing wrong with the footage.
I'm glad word of this has spread to the Creative Cow forums. I'm sure there are lots of users out there who think that it is their camera that has the issue. The more people that know about the issue, the more Adobe will be held to accountability.
I'm really surprised by the poor experience we've had with CS6. I've been a user since before Premiere Pro, and I've never encountered such a show stopping issue with the software.
I can't believe that they don't have this listed for users as a known issue either. It should be in a FAQ list until resolved.

  • Sony XD Cam EX1 23.98 to 29.97 conversion in Final Cut

I shot some footage with the Sony XD Cam EX1 at 23.98. When I bring it into Final Cut it shows up as 29.97. I tried to use Cinema Tools to Reverse Telecine, but the Reverse Telecine is not available. I assume that is because the footage is compressed. However, are there any workarounds to keep the footage I shot at 23.98, at 23.98? Or, are there any workarounds to reverse telecine the footage.

We are having similar problems here - trying to remove the pulldown as well.
There is something up with Sony's transfer tool. When it unwraps the codec - it is loosing the flag that is needed to remove pulldown.
I found that you can drag the file into an HDCAM timeline, render it, export it, then bring it into Cinema Tools. Reverse telecine works then but "sometimes" removes the wrong frames. This is a huge workflow to do, especially when you have 40gigs of clips.
If you hear anything...pass it on.

  • How can i download video hdv minicassette footage from my sony video camera with no fire wire port?

How can I download video HDV minicassette footage from my sony video camera with no fire wire port?

    Hi,
Are you talking about your computer which has no firewire port ? If YES you can have one of two options:
    (a) Use FCI - Firewire card like this (preferred)
    You can buy from this:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Ports-PCI-Express-PCI-E-IEEE-1394A-Firewire-Adapter-Cable-Card-/1507023...
    (b) You can also use USB-Firewaire adapter like this:

  • Sony EX1 footage renders jumpy

    Hi,
This is frustrating me to know end.
I just imported a PPro Mac project into AE Mac with Sony EX1 footage.
When I render, some of the clips jump back and forth (forward and backward) randomly.
It plays fine in PPro and I can RAM Preview a single clip in a separate comp just fine, but a render or RAM Preview jumps.
    Any suggestions?

    I'm creating a work-around for the EX-1 black-dropped-out frames in After Effects (X64 CS3 CineForm):
    1. Edit a 'story board' in Premiere with the EX MP4 raw-files
    2. Convert only the files I need (from all the 150 shot) in the CineForm-HDlink app to .MOV files
//filesize will become a little more, will shift a couple of frames from the MP4-raw, quality the same
//HDlink is a BAD application, because I have to transcode every MP4 file seperately. MXF files are bugging in HDlink
//HDlink does NOT trancode the audio into the new .MOV file! Sucks.
    3. Replace the Premiere 'edit-MP4-raw-files' with the converted .MOV files in After Effects
    4. Re-sync all the audio, 'export audio' from the MP4-raw files in Premiere to AE
    5. Voila! Render without troubles
    I love Quicktime!
-Yeah, it sucks not to work natively-
Any new suggestions would really be appreciated!

  • Is there Anyway to Import XDCAM EX1 videos into CS6 without Conversion ?

    Hello Guys,
I have to edit some footage which was shot on XDCAM EX1. Im using CS6 on an IMac. Whenever i try to  import the footage i get the error " the file has no audio or video stream". So i went to google for the solution. I came across a few posts (all of them were exactly the same) which said that I have to convert the footage. The problem with this is that no matter how expensive or professional the converter is, there will be some loss in quality. Please advice me what should I do ? Quality is the highest priority for me. I do have FCP X as well which picks up the EX 1 footage but it does not recognize the footage from my Sony FS100 ( i need to edit footage from both these cameras in one timeline and sequence ). Other than this i do have windows  available as well with Adobe Premiere cs4,5,5.5. and 6.

Copy the BPAV directory and all subdirectories from the SxS card to a harddisk. Open the BPAV directory in the Media Browser and import the clips from there. The EX1 creates MPEG2 clips in a MP4 wrapper.

  • Handing off XDCAM EX footage for an Avid based client

Just wanted to check the workflow for handing off my XDCAM EX footage to one of my Avid based clients,
My original thoughts were to dump the footage using the XDCAM transfer software, then just transfer the files to their drives or burn to a DL DVD.
will they be able to use the mp4 files as they were captured using my mac?

i'd suggest you give them the files as MXF wrapped clips ... you can do this from FCP using Sony's XDCAM Transfer or from the original camera files using Sony's Clip Browser app
alternatively have your AVID counterpart install Calibrated Q's XD Decode codec bundle so that they can read the same quicktime mov's that you're using in FCP

  • Importing footage from sony HDR-SR12 to External for later use in imovie?

Hi all, I have a question, I would like to save my movie footage which is on my sony HDR-SR12 to a external drive(G Raid1TB) so I can view and also import clips to imovie for making movie's later. I have partitioned the Ext HD 150gb for photos and 781gb for movie footage. Just out of curiosity I mounted my camera and pressed get info and the format on the sony camera is MS-Dos(fat32) does this matter at all?  Also which is the best way or how do I  import the footage from sony hdr-sr12 to the external Hd. I have never done this before so your help would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to mess up.
    Thank You
    Jess

I should have mentioned, it is a good idea to make an archive copy of your AVCHD footage before importing. You should be able to do this from the FILE menu in iMovie. This will preserve the AVCHD files exactly as they were on the camera.
When you import, you convert the AVCHD files (which are highly compressed) into Apple Intermediate Codec, which is suitable for editing.
If you want to make sure that your archive copy is working properly, you can import from your archive copy, rather than importing directly from the camera. This is a good way to make sure you have a good archive copy before erasing the video on the camera.

  • My Sony AVCHD cam is no longer recognized when "logging and transferring"

I'll try to keep this short and sweet.
I have some footage on a Sony HD cam.  When I connect it to the mac, the drive appears just fine.  When I go to "log and transfer" it no longer begins loading itself.  When I try to manually select the disk and open it, I get this - "(this drive)... contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."
When I try this with my other identical Sony HD cam, it works just fine, like it always has.
When I try to "repair image," it finds no problems.
The only difference between the two, is that the non-working one was plugged into a Windows machine to manually upload a couple MTS files to youtube.  No formatting was done.
How can I get my FCE to recognize my camera again?
    Thanks!

    I FIGURED IT OUT!
I had manually deleted some videos via Finder but remnants of the files were still on the camera itself.  So, by looking in the STREAM folder, I could find where there were gaps, locate those files on the camera and then delete them.  Once these "ghost" files were gone, my camera popped up in the Log and Transfer window immediately.
    Hallelujah.

  • Editing footage with sony HXR-MC50E what cable or program do I need to transfer

Editing footage with sony HXR-MC50E what cable or program do I need to transfer footage to computer and into Final Cut Pro?
I am editing with Final Cut Pro
    I have a Mac
My footage is on the HXR-MC50E

One small correction-- you do not use File-->Import. You must use Log and Transfer in FCP 7 or Import From Camera/Import Media in FCP X. In FCP 7 the clips will be automatically converted to ProRes upon import. In FCP X you can choose to work with the native files (re-wrapped to .mov) or you can optionally transcode to ProRes. When importing in FCP X, enable the 'create optimized media files' option to convert to ProRes. If you do not enable this option the files will remain in their native codec.

  • Log and Transfer not working with Sony AVCHD camera

Hi, I have a new Sony AVCHD camera. The HDR-XR200 120GB hard drive model. It captures in 1920x1080i, and connects to Mac via USB.
FCP does not recognize the camera when I open the log and transfer window.
Can someone help me with seq setting and easy set up setting or other setting for it to work.
I am happy to import footage into FCP with AIC or prores 422. Just want to edit all the footage I have of my so's international soccer tournament held in Australia last week. I also have Final Cut Express on my Mac if that works better. This is very frustrating trying to get it to work.
    Cheers
    Bryan

I use a Panasonic AVCHD, which FCP doesn't recognise. Anyway I've spent months playing around because this little camera blows my Sony V1 out of the water in sheer quality.
Best thing is just get hold of a copy of Toast 10, you can then simply drag your .mts files into this and encode to whatever you want, I edit in pro res LT, but Toast will even encode it to HDV if you want to end up on tape(Even this result still blows the Sony HDV apart)
FCP is very fussy about even noticing the very existance of .mts files, so I wouldn't waste my time, scratching my head.
By the way, I use Firewire 800 drives, not USB 2 and also in the name of God BACK UP YOUR MTS FILES ON A NEW HARD DISC CALLED "BACKUP OF .MTS FILES!" LOL

  • Sony EX3 camera FCE4 ...

    Hello,
I am running a MacBook Pro (2,66GHZ, 8GB) and using Final Cut Express 4. However, I am also using a Sony EX3 camera. The driver and all info have been loaded from the CD that comes with the camera into the MacBook.
However, using 'log and transfer' the system says: File Error: 1 file recognised, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.
Any thoughts as to why this should be happening?
Thanks in advance for your help ...

FCE does not come with the XDCAM codec. It doesn't support the format. You'd need FCP to work with this camera.

ork smoothly with my Sony AVCHD camera- I can can

and it will not record anything. I can't find where I can choose
"AVCHD", that I saw in a tutorial somewhere- can
anyone help? Thanks! (recording with a Firewire connection)

    Rusty,
What cables came with your camera? What ports does it have for file transfer? Did it come with any utility programs?
    You say:
he's relling me I have to send the video using USB, so is there some kind of Firewire to USB adapter?
Who is this "he?" Exactly what is he telling you? Now, you may need a USB cable to transfer from this camera - I just do not know. I'd look at the manual and see what it says about getting your footage onto your computer. That will tell you definitively what cable/connection you will need.
There are USB - FW cables and connectors, but I'd recommend against using them, unless it is 100% necessary. I'd go with just the proper cable to start with. The manual will tell you, and you'll probably want to use the camera's transfer software to do this operation. Note: this is a two-step process. First you transfer, and then you Import into PrPro. There will be NO Capture, per se, involved.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Sony Digital Camera Import

How can I import digital movies from my Sony Handycam DCR-SR68?
    iPhoto will not recognize them.

    Greetings Dave,
How can I import digital movies from my Sony Handycam DCR-SR68?
iPhoto is an image management program. It's primary function is to import, store, and organize still images. While it does import movies from digital still cameras, it is not designed to import movie footage from a video camera (Two different types of devices. Still cameras and movie cameras). That is what iMovie is for.
Your Sony Handycam DCR-SR68 is on the supported camera list for iMovie so you should be able to import your footage into iMovie: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290
Once the footage is off the camera and in iMovie, you can then export it out of iMovie and put it back in iPhoto (although I'm unclear why you would want to store movie footage in iPhoto. Of the two programs, iMovie is the best place to keep large amounts of movie data.)
    iPhoto will not recognize them.
Your camera records it's movie files in MPEG2 format. This format is not natively compatible with iPhoto as it is not usable by Quicktime (Which is what drives movie compatibility to some extent in iPhoto.) without additional software. The Quicktime manual lists the compatible formats: http://images.apple.com/quicktime/pdf/QuickTime7UserGuide.pdf (Page 9).
iMovie has a built in convertor that will convert those MPEG2 files into a usable format when you import directly from the camera into iMovie.
    Hope that information helps.
