XDCAM export to disk

Hello,
I'm having a problem writing XDCAM clips back to a disk. We shot some car mount footage on another camera (GoPro)
• I compressed that footage to XDCAM 1080i60 35Mb/s
• Placed the compressed footage into a Final Cut timeline (XDCAM HD 1080i60 35Mb/s VBR).
• Set Audio output to four channels, 1 and 2 dual mono and 3 and 4 dual mono.
• Set our deck (Sony PDW-HD1500) to 59.94i/HD420-1080/HQ/4CH-16Bit
• File > Export > Sony XDCAM...
• Export to "Untitled" (the XDCAM disk that's in the deck.
• As format MXF (HDCAM, HD, HD422)
• Using settings XDCAM HD 1080i60 VBR
• REC INHIBIT off on the deck
It won't write that to the disk. I continue to get "Export Failed" windows telling me to check settings and make sure record inhibit is off.
Here's the problem: when I set the settings to XDCAM HD 1080i60 CBR (which is 25Mb/s) or XDCAM HD422 1080i60 CBR (which is 50Mb/s) the file writes properly EVEN THE DECK IS SET TO 420HQ.
Our show is shot at the 420HQ (35Mb/s) format and that is what we have to deliver to post.
The problem seems that CBR works just fine and VBR does not. Does the computer have a problem with a variable bitrate that it doesn't have with a constant bit rate?
The footage is not going to suffer at 25Mb/s, since it was shot on the little GoPro camera (it records to an mp4 file at a much lower compression). But we want to get the footage to post in the same format that they're getting everything else.
What can I do to fix this situation?
Thanks,
Stef

Hello Marcus,
You need to install the latest Sony FAM-driver on your Mac for writing your edit back to the disc. I guess that's all.
Importing goes now via the "Media Browser" as I understand it correct. I believe therefore XDCAM Transfer software isn't needed anymore, but I think it wouldn't hurt to have it installed too.
When your edited sequence is written back to the disc, you’re able to play it out on your PDW-700 via the SDI or HDSDI connection.
I still use FCP7 so how it all precisely goes in Premiere, I do not know for sure. I'm sorry for that! Production Premium CS5.5 is installed on my Mac, but haven't used Premiere Pro. Shortly I will be switching to CS6.
Here are some other movies for the PDW-700. In part 4 Andy explains how to write back to the 700 with FCP. I assume it's almost the same with Premiere.

Try it and let us know if it works.

  • XDCAM export

    Dear colleagues,
I was very happy with my DigiBeta but XDCAM seems to be unavoidable. Bought a Sony PDW-D1.
Installed all latest versions of the software
    -PC utility 1.5.0
-XDcam Transfer PDZK-P1 version 2.5 for my FC pro (6.0.2)
    -FAM driver 1.1.2
When I insert a disk it shows up on the desktop.
In FC pro (6.0.2) I made a test sequence (PAL) with the settings 'MPEG IMX 625/50 (50 Mbs/s) and 4 Dual mono audio outputs. When exporting using SONY XDCAM EXPORT I cant change the field ''With Filename:''. But that's a minor thing.
Starting the export: it doesn't work at all. A message says the XDcam device was removed, and an other message says that the volume was locked or full (It is a new and empty XDcam disk and the save switcht is in the right position). A blue light on the drive keeps burning and the drive is not working any more: can't eject the disk and the PC Utlity software can't see the drive any more. Switching off and on the PDWD1 makes it working again.
Also: on desktop level it is impossible to store anything on the XDCAM disk.
What is going wrong????????? There must be more people on the world facing this issue.
    Thankx

    Thanks for the reply
I tried two different easy set ups:
    -IMX PAL (50 Mb/s)
    and
    -Blackmagic Pal - IMX MPEG (50 Mb/s)
    causing the same problems
No network hassle here: Simple Raid of 2 FW 800 disks (on two different FW 800 ports). I tried exporting with switching off all FW harddisks: same warnings and finally again crash of PDW-D1.
Simple question: should it be possible to store any data on a XDCAM drive just by dragging it from the desktop to the XDcam drive?
    I can't.
When I do that a message appears and I have to type my administrators password like when installing new software. When I enter the password it says I don't have the right privileges.
It looks to me the disk is not accesible anyway.
Sony websites suggest that everything should work properly with my setup

  • Export to Disk with 64 bit version

I need to be able to export images that I have edited in LR3 to disk to give to someone and the dialog box tells me that this is not possible in the 64 bit version.  I had to go back to Bridge to do this and my changes to the images were not seen in Bridge.   If I run LR on an xp machine that is not 64 bit will I be able to export to disk?  Does this mean that I need to use LR on my old machne or use Bridge on my 64 bit machnine? This mkaes LR much less attractive and useful especially if these are my only answers.

I just learned about this limitation the hard way. It's not excuse that the
Adobe vendor for burning does not support 64 bit. It's Adobe's responsibiility to make their software function. Get a new vendor asap. I'm mad.

  • Export to disk compressed files only? bad bad bad

When I select the export to disk under the share menu, it will only export compressed files. This is a drag because the only way to export an aiff is if you send it to itunes. Am I wrong about this, is there something that I am missing?
Exporting to disk allows you to select a destination for the export and this is highly desirable because I don't like cluttering up my itunes library with snippets of songs or individual tracks.
If this is the case than GB 3 has a serious design flaw. Export to disk is a basic function of all music software. To hobble this on purpose is beyond my understanding.
Anyone out there know the answer?

Garageband 1 and 2 have the same flaw. 8^) Exporting to iTunes is the "official" Apple way. I would create a special playlist for your GB exports so you can keep track of them and delete them as necessary.

  • Can't export to disk from Garageband 08

I have Garageband 4.1.2 running on Leopard 10.5.2. Sometime after the last GB or OSX upgrade I stopped being able to export to disk. The export appears to work, but no file is created.
It turns out to be a file name length problem. If I shorten the file name the export works properly.
I'm creating a new topic here because there isn't only specific to GB users. However there seems a problem doing "export movie to disk" in one of the iLife 08 applications. That's where I learned about the fix. See the included link to that discussion.

    -Paul

I've been frustrated by this problem for several months. I can't stand being forced to export to iTunes, not only because of the extra steps of subsequently copying the file to where I really want it to be and then deleting the file in iTunes, but also because it forces me to enter a playlist name, a composer name, and an album name. Shorter file names seems to work and therefore may be the ticket for me too. But I think several GarageBand updates have been released, and I wonder why this hasn't been fixed. It makes me start thinking Apple is like Microsoft, forcing me into using their products.

  • On a long two hour concert, 4 tracks aiff, is it possible to export to disk split track segments?

Using Garageband 11 on a i3 iMac (2011), I downloaded a long contiguous symphony concert from a digital recorder as aif files. I split the tracks into segments to create separate songs to burn to CD Master. When I select a segment, then Share>Export To Disk, I see that the entire long track is being processed. How does one only export the selected segment?

  • NewBe question - Effects not exporting to disk

    Hi,
I've been experimenting with GB. I have a Video with with an audio track that is very low. I imported the video into GB selected instrument with the audio on it. then on the info window clicked on edit and added the AUGraphicEQ to work bring up the levels. I have it sounding okay in GB. However when I go to share >> export to disk >> full quality, the output is the same as the input.
I have also tried to turn off the track effect and apply it to the master, same result. I also tried to perform some effects on a jiggle track and export and mp3 with the same result.
Basically I cannot figure out how to get the effects I hear in GB to become an output file.
Any direction or thoughts are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Normally the effects should be on the exported audio file. Are you sure that they are not applied? Or is the level just too low? Try to turn off the auto-normalize feature in GB's preferences.

  • WebCenter Sites - Export to Disk with Images

Using WebCenter Sites (11.1.1.6.0), I've followed the 'export to disk' instructions for FirstSiteII but no images are exported. I have selected all types in 'Approve Multiple Assets' query (including images) before publishing. There are a list of totals from the query results, and it appears to have found images and approved them, however there are messages saying:
"Rendered page returns -4 rendering asset, ItemImage.jpg. Please preview asset and check template, FirstSiteII/Media_C/FSIIDetail."
(Although this message is presented in a green notification box with a tick)
How can I include images in the export?
The plan was to use the 'export to disk' feature as the primary method of publishing site content. I'm using the sample sites to test how feasible this is. I also haven't been able to locate a suitable entry point asset on the avisports sample to test it as well. The 'Home' asset cannot be selected as entry point as 'no templates can be found' (despite it listing that it uses HomeLayout in the form).
How can I export avisports site to disk?
    Many thanks.

Still looking for some detail on how to export avisports to disk, and include images in a FirstSiteII export to disk. The image issue may be related to how the images are stored (as an asset in the database served by the blobserver, or separably on disk). I would have thought that if they are database stored, they would be extracted on publishing (export to disk) but this doesn't seem to be happening?

  • GB will not Export to Disk???

Working with GB 3.0.4 on iMac G4. I have created a video podcast. Upon completion I have been trying to Share / Export to Disk. I assign the location for saving as my Movie folder. GB goes through the Mixing, converting, compressing all right and all seems to be in order when the process is done. But upon completion, I check in the Movies folder and the file isn't there. I cannot locate it using Spotlight either. I have been able to export other video podcasts to disk prior to this. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like it is having trouble with its video
codec. Have you tried any of the other export options?
Regarding Garageband not Exporting to Disk.......
I created a new Garageband file and placed a short video into the Podcast track. Added some text and jingles. Then did a Share/Export file to disk. All went as expected but there are 4 steps involved in the export....Mixing, Converting, Compressing and Finishing. The file that would not export did not complete the last step, Finishing. The test sample did and the file was exported to my desktop as directed. So, I then created another new podcast....imported my movie into the podcast track......copied narration from the "bad" podcast into the new one....added my jingles and then did Share / Export file to disk. This time the podcast completed all four steps and the file in m4v format was placed onto my desktop as directed. The first garageband podcast was corrupted or had some defect that did not allow the 4th "finishing" step to happen (writing the file name to the assigned disk space). Hope it doesn't happen again.

  • Help - no audio on share to iTunes / export to disk

I havent used Garageband for a couple of years. I have just made a very simple 4 track, 16 second tune using only loops and FX.
I have dragged the purple triangle back to the end of my loops to ensure there is no blank trailer, saved the project and tried both export to disk and share to itunes. The resulting output seems to have no audio.
It plays fine in Garageband, but nothing when played outside from iTunes.
This must be a simple problem. I seem to recall having to set an IN and OUT marker but cant find evidence this is necessary.
    Thanks

Ah ha. Classic. iTunes was connected to my airtunes speakers which were of course turned off. That will do it every time.

  • Exporting to disk leaves "quiet time" at the end

    Hi,
When I export the song to disk (Share->Export to Disk) the resulting MP3 file has quiet time (more or less 4 seconds) after the loop music is played.
I need it to end immediately after loop end (so that the sound file will loop properly in another application). Is there any way to fix this?
    OR
Is there any way to mark the region that we want to export ?
    Thanks

  • Premiere Pro CS5 - XDCAM export

    Hello friends,
We are using Premiere Pro CS5 successfully in our video editing. But we have a problem: We export to the format. MXF in HD and SD with no problems. I can copy the clips to the MXF HD PDW-U1 drive smoothly. However,  the export of IMX (30, 40 or 50), and when trying to copy the disc  using the PDW-U1 (formatted disk, free name and multiple format enabled)  the drive does not accept the copy.
Do you have any idea what might be happening? In Premiere Pro CS4 was possible to export and copy to SD for the PDW-U! through op1a.
    Thanks,

I'm having the same problem here in Floripa.
Working for an agency. Since we have a retail customer, we bought a MAC PRO and a PDW-1 and only managed to record on the IMX-50 Final Cut File> Export> XDCAM codec with apple PRORES(LT). I can not export directly from Premiere CS5 for the PDW-1.

  • Exporting to Disk Image Causing HD Issues

hi all. i've been exporting my dvd's as disk images onto an external hard drive, but every time i do, my internal hd loses a significant amount of memory as well. all project files are also located on the external drive, so there's absolutely no reason that it should be affecting my mac's internal hd that i know of. any suggestions? i've tried searching my comp for any files created or modified, but it finds nothing.

During the process of Burning a DVD, or to a folder, many more files are created, than what will be finally written. These working files are usually eliminated after the process has completed.
One can watch similar, when Exporting a muxed MPEG-2 file from PrPro, or most NLE's. If one has Windows Explorer (or the Mac equivilent) open, they'll see both the video and the audio files being created, then the muxed file is "assembled," and the elemental streams are eliminated.
Why your "working" files are not being eliminated, would be a concern. Off-hand, I do not have any idea of the cause of this.
One question: what version of En are you using? CS4 PrPro does do some files to C:\, during Export, etc., that were not created outside of the Scratch Disks, in earlier versions.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS3 XDCam export for FCP

Currently running CS3 PP on PC.  Shooting xdcam that creates .mp4 files.  We have Matrox boards so editng in PP with 720p 60fps natively is no problem, no rendering with project settings set up properly.  Editing 2 to 3 and half minute features that need to be exported for use with FCP for broadcast in a production truck.  MOV files as quicktime makes the most sense, but what codec and how to create the best looking 720p HD feature while not giving the producer a huge file.  I've been told by him that a minute of HD video should be around 1 gig.  Do I need a third party (Sorenson, etc.) to create properly or use Adobe Media Encoder.  Or should I export as a movie.
Really looking forward to getting some opinions and help on this.  Thanks!
    Tom

You could ask the guys using FCP what codec(s) they like...thats your best bet.
My producer for this project is not the "easiest" to deal with if you get my drift so to speak, won't give simple answers or take the time to figure it out and move on, so I'm left to figure it out for him.  He's never wrong
you could try tests of small segments of your timeline ...using QT ( mov ) using jpeg 2000, animation ( RLE ? ) and UT YUL2 422 ( what renderer are you using for the project in premiere ? )..  these would make large files, probably have to deliver via external HD.
Trying to keep files size small, playing out of his mac book and outputing in the production truck
Basically fcp likes pro res 422 type stuff..I would ask those guys using FCP what would work best for them.
pro ress 422 is not a codec that cs3 pp has as an option.  I did watch the producer use streamclip third party converter to get it to play out and it looked great during last night's broadcast here in Florida.  I think he said export as apple dv/dvcpro - ntsc, 1280x720 (HDTV 720p) and that worked for him.  When I bring that file into my project storyboard it is 16x9 but not scaled to my project specs.
Thanks for your input, great to get my first reply in the forum!  Just recently joined after owning our system since Jan. 2009.

  • LR4 Export to disk is loosing GPS-coordinates

    Hi,
Noticed that when I export pictures to disk (Publis Service Hard Drive: Export) that I loose the GPS-coordinates of the pictures. The Location info is still there (that's the reversed gps-location-lookup data).
Is this a bug or is that intended behaviour. I did not check: remove location info, in the Settings dialogue.
Note that exporting to SmugMug does not omit the gps-coordinates, and is mapping the pictures fine.
Thanks in advance for your advice/comment.
    Oh.... almost forgot:
I use LR4 the original issue
