XDCAM footage EXPORT CRASHES
Im using XDCAM HD footage in the project. Everything renders as it should, but FCP will not let me export the sequence. Halfway through the export, it crashes and quits the application.
There is 1 clip that is slowed to a speed of 50% , but that should not make any difference.
All of my software+hardware is up to date.

XDCam footage exported from FCP to After Effects and back to FCP stutters
I need help. Here is the situation:
XDCam footage imported into Final Cut with the Sony Import Software 25 mpbs. Final Cut sequence is set up to match all settings. The footage is placed into the sequence fine, I can edit with no problems everything works great. The problems start when I export from Final Cut to bring it into After Effects 7.0.
I drag the imported footage onto the comp icon to create a new comp with the footage settings. The footage is being interpreted as upper field first. I render out the footage using the HDV codec that matches my sequence in Final Cut. When I import the rendered movie into Final Cut it causes the whole system to bog way down. Not just dropped frames but a serious amount of bog down, I even get the spinning Beachball for a few seconds while its trying to play. It should be noted that when I place the rendered movie in the sequence it doesn't seem to need any rendering. Now, here's the weird part, when I play the rendered movie using just the quicktime app. It plays just fine. The problem only seems to be with Final Cut.

I was having the same problem. After studying the mov as rendered by AE it would seem that there's something odd about the framsize. It would seem that AE's HDV preset is incompatible with FCP for some reason. There's probably a perfectly reason tech explanation for this but I don't know it.
I was told by a friend to always render 'intermediate codec' which I intend to do in future.
As a short-term measure just run the files through Compressor, that did the trick for me. -
Gypsy-rigging a fast, "fake" XDCAM timeline export
I work in a training environment of a production facility where we currently shoot and edit XDCAM 1080/60i 35VBR footage. We started out shooting on DV and editing on Final Cut Pro G4 laptops, and gradually upgraded to XDCAM footage over a few years, and are now editing on macbook pro's, which are designed to handle XDCAM.
As a training department, I don't always have access to the newest equipment and have inherited alot of the older, retired, G4 powerbooks to use as training vehicles to bring staff up to speed on Final Cut Pro editing. While I start staff on standard definition DV material, we gradually work our way up to XDCAM, as that's the format they'll encounter when shooting real material.
Although it's a given that the G4's were never meant to edit HD XDCAM footage, when installed with FCP6, the G4's can handle the editing of XDCAM timelines fine, as long as you're doing mostly cuts. Any rendering is obviously extremely slow.
The big problem is exporting the timeline out as a quicktime file. That takes FOREVER on a G4. However, I suspect that if I change the paramaters of the export so that I'm not trying to export a 1440 x 1080 XDCAM file, I hope I can speed up the time it takes for the G4's to export that timeline. The end product they're exporting will never be used...it's just a practice package timeline, therefore, it doesn't really matter what the end format and size dimensions of that exported timeline are. I'm just trying to get them familiar with the export workflow.
So here is my question...can anyone recommend a particular spec I can use for exporting that XDCAM timeline that will speed up the export? I need to try to do the same thing for exporting XDCAM via COMPRESSOR...finding a droplet / codec or creating one, that will export a 2 minute XDCAM timeline in around 5-10 minutes, instead of the 30-45 minutes it would take to actually export it full size. Again, I'm not trying to make it end up as an XDCAM exported file. Any format and size will do...I just want the export to go faster on these older machines.

Best "Capture" workflow for projects mixing HDV tape and XDCAM footage
I'm trying to determine the best workflow for projects that combine XDCAM and HDV footage.
I'd obviously do the editing in a project designed for XDCAM, as that's the higher quality footage,
and render the HDV clips in the XDCAM timeline...ending up with an XDCAM end product.
I'd use SONY'S XDCAM TRANSFER to get the clips into FCP.
My question concerns capturing the HDV footage in this scenario. I've never been able to get
the Log and Capture feature for HDV footage to work, unless I've created an HDV project and am capturing into that HDV project.
So, generally, I create an HDV project, open the log and capture utility which is now set to capture HDV, and then capture the footage. I then close that project and create a new project, designed for XDCAM footage. I use XDCAM Transfer to get the XDCAM footage into the project, and I import
the previously captured HDV footage into that browser and start editing, rendering the HDV in the XDCAM timeline.
My question...do I really have to open, what is essentially a "fake" HDV project just to capture that HDV footage? You don't seem to have the option of capturing HDV footage (out of a camera or HDV tape deck) directly into an XDCAM project. If I try to change the capture or audio video settings of the XDCAM project to HDV, you get messages saying you can't do it.
Is there something I'm missing or a more streamlined way of doing this?
Thanks in advance for any input.No need to jump through these hoops. Just set yourself up with a universal Easy Setup that will handle both. Choose your regular XDCAM HD Easy Setup then open the Audio / Video Settings window and change the Capture Preset to "HDV" and the Device Control Preset to "HDV Firewire" ... then click the "Create Easy Setup" button and save it for recall whenever needed.
Regarding the overall workflow, I'd seriously question the idea of creating XDCAM HD masters. No real benefit to that unless you need to export to XDCAM HD. Much better would be export your final master as Apple ProRes 422.

On the greenscreen Sony XDCAM footage I have
If I edit in Premiere Pro CS3 first
Then what settings do I export with to then open in After effects to do the keying? (I don't have dynamic link)
Settings on Cam were 1920x1080 HQ 25p
Ultimate rendering out of AE will be to flash with Alpha channel.
Obviously I want to keep best quality possible until the flash expot.

scottFor chroma keying you want to use the least compression and the best quality. Lagarith is the best solution for that and you can easily use it to bring it into AE, edit in AE and export back to PR. It takes a bit of space but it gives you pretty clean keys and is easy to edit. Uncompressed does not give you any visible advantage but does take a lot more disk space. Other compressed codecs like H.264 or MPEG give you a visible generation loss and less clean keys, as well as putting a heavy burden on your system.

There was a thread a while back titled "PDF Export Crash." Because it was archived, I was unable to post my findings there. This issue recently became front and center for me within the last 24 hours. For those unaware, I am referring to an issue where Pages crashes every single time you try to export to PDF on certain documents (even through the print dialog). Using a different computer only produces the same results!
After some investigation and testing, I was able to discover that the presence of footnotes was directly tied to the problem. Once removed, seamless exporting followed. However, not all footnotes were responsible. I found the third page of my document, when isolated, exported just fine along with its footnote; while the fourth page of my document, when isolated, did not export (crashed). Footnote along are there NOT directly responsible.
Although I am still unable to determine the exact problem, I would like to make these observations available along with another workaround I discovered. It is a little tedious, but absolutely guaranteed to work for someone who is desparate.
1. Copy and paste your entire document into TextEdit.
2. Create a new blank Pages document and past it back in.
3. Manually add your footnote back in one at a time.
4. Make any minor formatting corrections from the transfer.
After using this method to recreate the original document, while visibly symmetrical, the recreation process somehow eliminated the "quirks" that were causing Pages to crash during a PDF export.
If anyone is still having this issue, I'd be interested to hear from you. Especially if you have discovered exactly what causes certain footnotes to disrupt the PDF export process.
iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.2)In order to isolate the problem as much as possible, you may want to delete parts of the document, step by step, and see how small it can be and still crash.
If you are lucky, that may tell us exactly what causes the crash.
If you are unlucky, the reason is an exceptional corruption of the document, which happened some time in the past, and which cannot be isolated this way.

Upgraded to IPhoto '11 V 9.4(701.64) and now export crashes program
I just Upgraded to IPhoto '11 V 9.4(701.64) and now export crashes program. I've tried several times and it just keeps crashing.

Working with XDCam Footage in Shake. Is it Possible?
Hey Guys,
From what I've been able to dig up, Shake doesn't like rendering out to XDCam in File-Out nodes and it's been the same case for me. XDCam renders brought in to FCS are slow to load and constantly bring up the beach-ball. Is it the same case for File-In nodes too? Should I avoid working with the XDCam format entirely?
The other problem I've been having, is I'll File-In the XDCam footage, work through the process to get a greenscreen key and then I've tried several different file-out CoDecs: Animation, ProRes422, ProRes422 (HQ), DV/DVCPro NTSC, and the only format that comes out normal is the DV/DVCPro NTSC. All the others are shortened.
So my question is, what's happening to my footage? The original is 10,372 Frames (Roughly 5:45) and yet I get different render times for each, even though the Flipbook shows 10k+ Frames rendered.

Can anyone help by explaining to me what's going on? I've even tried putting an 8-bit "Bytes" node before the file-out, as some have suggested, and still no glory. I should not that ProRes422 (HQ) is the timeline setting for my Final Cut Project and everything was shot on an XDCam ex-3 at 720p30.I don't have any interlacing options selected in either node and the clip just stops automatically at 2:34 (4636 Frames). The file-in format is a 1280x720, 29.97fps, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), 13.6 MB/sec Data Rate. The File-out node is set to the same 29.97fps, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec and is left at 1280x720. When imported back into Final Cut the Data Rate is slightly lower at 13.2 MB/sec, but that is the only difference.
What makes me doubly confused is that if I put a resize node before my file out and size the 422 (HQ) file to a proportional 864x480 (other details the same) I get a longer video file as the result at 3:52 (6962 Frames), at an 8.8MB/sec Data Rate, but still well short of the full 5:45 (10375 Frames). The only file-out format that doesn't truncate my video is a 1280x720 DV/DVCPro - NTSC and it's Data Rate is 3.4MB/sec but the quality is so low as to warrant not using it. -
No sound when playing (MAC) XDCAM footage on PC
When I try to play XDCAM footage on a PC (Windows) with VLC, I hear no sound.
The XDCAM footage is captured on a Mac.
Is there a way to resolve this problem?

Hi guys,
Were having a massive problem with CS6 here, we can no longer import XDCAM footage using the media browser directly from the deck, or from a copy of the disc on a harddrive.
The problem is occuring on mac and PC, We have 10 seats of premiere, it occurs on all of them.
All the suites are up to date, and we dont have any weird codec packs installed.
Im totally stuck on this, and its become a major issue as a lot of our clients bring in media on XDCAM and we dont have the time to transcode hours of footage when premiere is supposed to import it natively.In CS5, I get an error for one file:
The rest of the files import like this in CS5...
all audio files are either flatline or noise, duration: 21:10
with one video file of bars duration: 21:09 -

hello guys
thank you for assistance in my previous post. i couldn't thank you guys for some reason.
however this is a related issue, my dv cam footage which i have edited and export isn't coming out at good quality as is on the preview screen, its looking alot more blurry.
the export settings i am selecting is h.264 and dv pal high quality?
i want to burn the dv footage onto dvd video, so i need settings which will enable the best quality for this.
can you please reccomend the settings i need
thank youi don't have these options in export media...are these additonal codecs i need to buy
( i will have a look when i am at home to see the options i have)

For DVD you can't use H.264. You need MPEG2-DVD.

I'm bringing in XDCAM EX footage into FCP 6.0.6 through the Sony XDCAM transfer utility. The colour bars look great on the waveform and the vector scope, however the footage is dark and a little noisey. I've read all the discussions about not believing what I see as far as accurate colour on FCP, but I work on a lot of projects - just today I've had Panasonic, Cannon EOS and GoPro footage to work on. They all are fine. But without changing anything other that the sequence settings to work natively in XDCAM, the XDCAM footage is dark. I even have another show on the go with XDCAM and Nikon footage cut together and it looks fine. Before I call the cameraman and ask for more exposure on the next round of shooting, is there anything I should do when importing and processing the footage?
Sequence settings: (I let the first clip set the sequnce for me) XDCAM EX 1080i60, Unlimited RT

The waveform monitor tells me I have crushed blacks and peaks at 60 units and the green screen background is at 30 to 35 units. I don't have any problem with other XDCAM clips that I have. I was asking of there was anything I did when I imported, or if there was any setting I might not have right, that would cause XDCAM imports to be processed in this way. In the end they may have been underexposed, but I have to check out what I did before I talk to the cameraman.

Quicktime codecs for reading XDCAM footage
Recently updated the software on my Mac Pro tower (circa 2008) and now Quicktime only plays audio of XDCAM footage, but not the video.
Quicktime plays regular mov, mp4 and mpeg videos just fine so I've isolated the probem to just XDCAM 1080 24p footage.
I think the codecs for reading XDCAM footage were lost or overwritten during the update, is there any way to reinstall or retrieve them?
If not what are the proper codecs for Quicktime to play XDCAM footage?I also had a similar problem to most people here. Cannot playback XDCAM files after upgrading from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I called Apple who suggested a fresh install of Snow Leopard without upgrading the 'ProApps QuickTime Codecs 1.0.3' and copy the contents of the Library/QuickTime form the fresh install into my QT library. However, I decided to seek the file(s) that is the cause which is the AppleHDV.Component file. I copied the faulty one to my desktop (so I had a backup) and downloaed:
PerianXDCam.component.zip -> PerianXDCam.component
PerianHDV.component.zip -> PerianHDV.component

Once unzipped, copy into the Library/QuickTime folder and this should solve your problem, until Apple and Sony resolve this issue.

Premiere Pro CC has a BUG (glitches) when playing XDCAM EX and XDCAM footage
I work with XDCAM EX footage and since I upgraded to CC all the footage now plays with glitches. Sometimes it just shows green. In addition to it the audio goes out of sync if you continue playing.
I did some research and other people are reporting the same issue but with XDCAM footage.
Adobe, please fix this bug. I can't edit anything like this. Also in the mean while let us, creative cloud members reinstall CS6. I can't just sit for days waiting for a fix.
I'll try a doing a clean reinstall of everytjing in the computer but if issue this persists, by tomorrow I'll have to switch back to Final Cut X.Maybe Adobe needs to expand it's beta program before release.

Firefox sometimes hangs for about a minute. Fedora 12, firefox 6.0.2
