XDCAM HD422 1080i/50
Several TV-stations require you to deliver this format. On a Mac, you'd have it in a Quicktime, I guess. But since I'm on Windows, could someone please link to a preset for Adobe Media Encoder? If not, list all the correct parameters?
Well this is what i have been sending to Channel ONE in Australia.
Sorry I'm using a mac but worth a shot
Format:Quicktime
Preset: HD 1080i 25.................
Video Codec: Apple Pro Ress 422 (HQ)
Field Order: Pregressive
Tick BOX - Render at Maximum Depth
Tick Box - Use Maximum Render Quality.
Att; I was using upper field for weeks and getting a ghost effect on fast movements because everywhere i read i was told to use upper field. By accident I used Progressive and now i have a great picture and i can sleep at night.

I cannot find export codec XDCAM HD422 1080i/50 (50 mbps) (trial version) it maybe present in the full registered version?
Hello. I have just recorded XDCAM 422 1080i 50 and I'm trying to find the best pobbible export settings - this is what I am using currently
I am having trouble with exporting this setting. Fast moving images are ghosty in places. ie moving hands.
I am exporting it as H.246
HD 1080i 25
And I set to "Match Source"
and I use Render at Maximum Depth and use Maximum Render quality.
Am i using the correct settings?
ps I don't think any shutter was used on the day so could this be the reason?
Kind Regards

XDCAM HD422 support in CS5?
I have some XDCAM HD422 footage I would like to edit in AE. I am currently on CS4 which doesn't import this format. I see that PP CS5 does, but what about AE CS5?
Hi teetime17,
were you able to work with HD422 50/1080/25p (or 30p) footage in cs5? With this I do not only mean whether you were finally able to import the files. What I mean is whether it was practical to work with HD422 footage in cs5 (without downframing or other reduction in quality). Sorry to reopen this threat after so many years, but I need to work with HD422 50/1080/30p footage and I am trying to build a workstation on a tight budget.
Thanks!

Need to edit/convert XDCAM HD422 in .mov wrapper on PC
From what I've been able to deduce, wrapping XDCAM HD422 in a mov only works on a Mac. I need to be able to edit or convert it in Premiere Pro on a PC. I have a mac laptop available if that needs to be what converts, though I'd rather a solution on the PC (the laptop is old).
I've seen links to Calibrated{Q} XD Decode, but can anyone confirm this works? I'd rather a free solution since there are so many free convertors like MPEG Streamclip and ffmpeg.
Codec: XDCAM HD422 1080p24 (50 Mb/s)
Wrapper: .mov
Premiere Pro = "Codec missing or unavailable."
Thanks.Very interesting. That explains a lot.
But AME definitely does not read it. The Source preview pane displays a black area instead of the video--not only that, but it displays the square in 4:3 instead of 16:9 (the video ratio), meaning it's definitely not reading the footage. If I run it through and convert it, it transcodes the audio but not the video (it just turns out black).
Premiere reads it just fine, audio and video. If I add the footage to a timeline and export, I can queue it into AME and it will export without problems.
All is up to date through CC.
As a side note, the footage gives a yellow bar when added to the timeline (something I've yet to see editing any raw footage added in Premiere), so it will take longer to edit/render. -
XDCam HD422 to prores confusion
I'm editing a project shot on a Sony F3, outputting to a Nanoflash at 180mbs.
When I brought it into FCP to check the details in the browser the codec was "XDCAM HD422 1080p25 (50 Mb/s). This is the first time I've cut with footage shot in this codec, and my plan was to convert to Prores as usual.
What I'm confused about is a; why does the browser say the XDCAM footage is 50 Mb/s when it was shot at 180 MB/s and b; when I do convert the footage to Prores, the resulting file is only 2/3rd the size of the original HDCAM file. Shouldn't it be bigger?
I'm holding off going any further on the project to I can be sure I have the correct workflow.
Any help appreciated.
cheers
hughHi David, thanks for your suggestion.
I'm almsot certain that's not the case in this instance, as the information in the browser for other codecs/calculations matches up usualy. Also a 1:8 ratio doesn't reflect the difference I'm experiencing, which is closer to 1:3.2.
Cheers

Help! XDCAM HD422 audio all broken!
Hi,
I'm trying to import XDCAM HD422 footage (1080p @ 25fps 50mb/s; audio 48Hz @ 16-bit) into FCP 7 using Sony's XDCAM Transfer app. I am using a 2008 MacBookPro and the footage was given to me on an external hard drive. I imported the footage using XDCAM Transfer and the clips play perfectly fine in QT or Finder viewer, but when I import to Final Cut the audio is all chopped up and runs shorter than the clip.
The sequence setting is set to the XDCAM HD422 1080@25 setting, with audio matching the source files (48Hz @ 16-bit) but it is still broken. Even before placing the clips in the timeline, they don't even work from the FCP browser viewer. Does anybody know a solution to this problem? I have looked for hours online and can't find any solution. Please help!
Thank you.Why aren't you using log and transfer from WITHIN fcp? You'll need to load the sony plug in.

Have anyone try to put MXF's from Sony PDW-700 into Premiere? ^_^
When we recive native support of XDCAM HD422? :)Hi friend,
I have tried this.
I saw that you can IMPORT XDCAM HD MXF's directly to your projects. However, exporting to XDCAM HD MXF's is only possible using third-party plug-ins like the mainconcept HD 4.
I have a lot of questions about working with XDCAM HD in Premiere Pro and working with playout systems. -
XDCAM HD422 playback stutterings and blacks out
When I import XDCAM 422HD clips into my PC based Pr6.01 or 5.5 machine, they will play once on the timeline, and strangely, after that, they flash black or don't play at all. I don't have the problem with EX files (I know they are a different codec). But from what I have read, most editors can play the HD422 files in PPro without a hassle. Our Machine is pretty fast with raided SSDs and Geforce 570 GFX. Thought it could be memory maybe (running 12 Gig) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
SteveJust an addendum to this post... PPro 6.01 won't recognise the MXF files at all... importer reports "generic error". However if a change the extension to mpg, they import OK. What the??

I have upgraded from 6 to CC and am using the same XDCAMEX 108050i (upper f) footage. I have setup the exact same sequence settings as in PPro CS6, however after importing the footage into the bin and starting a new timeline the footage has a yellow bar on the timeline indication it is not native. When I right click the footage in the bin and select properties it comes up with

and when i lay the footage in my timeline (in CS6) there is no yellow bar. In CC the playback is not realtime which is very frustrating because in CS6 it payed back flawellesly all the time.
Has anyone had the same problems? It seems as though CC is not interpreting the footage correctly in creating a native timeline.
Thanks
ADAMHi Adam,
With my EX1 footage I do get a yellow bar, yes, but I always did, even in CS6. But all plays back in real time, with or without MPE enabled.
In CC when I create a new sequence from clip I get correct settings in the sequence properties, i.e. it is a Sony XDCAM EX sequence.
Are you on a Mac or PC? I'm on PC.
Rather than using Media Browser, what happens if you drag the whole BPAV folder into Premiere and then create a sequence from one of those clips? Does Premiere CC do a better job of recognising it?
(All I can think is it's some issue to do with the difference between the JVC and the Sony interpretation that Premier Pro CC hasn't got right.)
If no improvement then I think a call to Tech Support might be in order, as might filing a bug report.

Blackmagic only progressive?
Hi,
i use the Blackmagic Decklink 2 with Premiere CS6 and the (HDMI) Videooutput is always progressive.
The Sequenzsettings are SONY XDCAM HD422 1080i/p and I use Sony XDCAM mxf files.
Decklink 2 works fine with Sony Vegas (progressive AND interlaced)
Ist there anywhere a special adjustment/setting neccasary?
thx!@simon: This is an Adobe preset:
If I create a new Sequenz, I choose in CS6: "XDCAM HD 422 1080i25 (50i)" (Yes, PAL Area)
Then I can choose in "Settings": "Sony XDCAM HD422 1080i/p" and "25 Frames p/sec"
My Footage ist XDCAM HD 422 PAL with 50 interlaced pictures.
If I choose 50 Frames per second, the playback on the second HDMI PC-output is fine, but the Blackmagic did not work.
I can't find any adjustement for the interlace playback setting in Adobe Premiere CS 6 with the Blackmagic Decklink.
I have try every settings with the Blackmagic panel, but there is no change. -

XDCAM HD 422 50i . mov Clips works fine.
XDCAM IMX Clips are all green and Pink.
in the import window, all clips are looking good.HI!
I´m having same problem with quicktime files from newtek. When imported they are all green.
I tryed to import in other softwares and looks fine. Even in Premiere CS5 is OK with Maverick.
I think the problem is Yosemite with CC. Must have some issue with codec orsomething.

I have tried to copy and paste my question from another orum where I posted it, but no dice. So here is the link to the other thread
http://forums.dvdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=396029#post396029
Can anyone help?
Thanks. And why couldn't you copy and paste from the other post. Works for me. Here it is.
For quite a while I was only working with 1080i AVCHD material (from a Sony NX5) inside FCP 7. When first setting up FCP7 for AVCHD I followed an online tutorial from Lynda.com where it gave me the settings to enter in the ‘Easy Setup’ section. I can’t recall exactly what they were but it worked fine and life was good.
A few months ago we purchased a Canon XF300 which uses a MPEG-2 codec with an MXF file format. Now according to Michael Reichmann and Chris Sanderson of
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/re...on-xf300.shtml
they suggest the following when using XF footage inside FCP 7:
"Canon's flavour of MPEG-2 is editable natively by many professional NLEs, with the exception of Apple's Final Cut Studio, where it is handed by a provided Canon plug-in. This plug-in connects to Log and Transfer for transcoding (optional) and importing. Many people like to transcode to a robust editing format such as ProRes 422. The plug-in does this quite rapidly – about 3X real-time. But if you set Log and Transfer to import in Native format, rather than a flavour of ProRes, all that will happen is that the file will be rewrapped rather than transcoded. The time that this takes is the same as simply copying the files off the card in the Finder, and the file size turns out to be less than half that of ProRes 422. This is my preferred approach."
So I tried what they suggested, i.e. selecting the ‘native format’ in the Log and Transfer preferences, and sure enough FCP provides files that smaller and transcode faster through Log and Transfer.
But when I look at the ‘Item Properties’ for any of these natively transcoded XF clips (which were shot in 1080i) the ‘Compressor’ field is shown as ‘XDCAM HD422 1080i (50Mb/s)’.
So I am a little confused since I can’t see/equate the link between XF300 Mpeg-2 footage and XDCAM HD422.
Now maybe this is just a setting that was left over from the days when I was editing AVCHD, I’m not really sure…. and sadly I’m not skilled enough in this area of video to know what to change it to.
So my first question is can anyone shed some light on all this?
Secondly I would like to go into the ‘Easy Setup’ (currently set on ‘All Formats’ and ‘Custom Setup’ under the ‘Use’ section) and change it to the most appropriate settings for future XF300 based projects.
With this in mind it might be useful if I provide some of current settings found in my FCP ‘Audio/Video Settings’ (which echo the current ‘Custom Setup’ in Easy Setup.
But again keep in mind the may be leftovers from the former AVCHD/NX5 days.
Sequence Preset: Apple ProRes 422 (LT) 1920x1080 50i 48kHz
Capture Preset: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50 – Apple ProRes (HQ)
Video Playback: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50 (1920 x 1080)
Given the above settings it’s probably no surprise to know that inside our Mac we have a Blackmagic Intensity Pro breakout card providing an HDMI output to a HDTV. -

Mov files in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 - XDCAM (MPEG) resp MPEG 1/2 (xdvc)
Problem description:
I got a bunch of MOV files on a HFS+ formated disk for editing on Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3). When I import to Premiere, Premiere says "Codec missing or unavailable". Paragon HFS+ is used to handle the HFS+ formated disk. I copied the data to a NTFS formated disk before using.
The reseach I did give the following indications:
I did try to play in Quicktime and Quicktime told that I would need additional software to play the .mov file. But I could execute show movie inspector and it shows "XDCAM EX 1080i 50 (35Mb/s VBR)".
VLC plays (!) and tells that it is a "Mpeg 1/2 Video (xdvc)"
MediaInfo says "MPEG Video (XDCAM)"
Sound is (L)PCM according to the mov inspector programs.
The MPEG2 format seems to be supported by Premiere (also in HD), forum entries tell me I should be at version 5.0.2 as there Adobe supports the MOV container. So now my question: What am I missing?
I have no idea on the Camera used to film, but it could be a JVC, as it is told that the JVC writes mov files.Hi Colin,
The explanation is quite simple and it appeared to me sometime during the weekend when executing completly different tasks.
The video source is different! The small clips (and your test clip) are what came from the camera and was transcoded to mov, my test clip was the edit out of FCP! It was by chance the only mov-file left, all others have been deleted after transforming to mp4, not to keep the data in double and fill up the disks with unnessecary data. So I tested this clip, which was the mistake!
Testing one of the original input files confirmed your result!
The difference between the files is having indeed 2 mono audio streams (input mov) vs one stereo stream (edit mov), all 3 obviously PCM.
