  • XDCAM HD422 support in CS5?

I have some XDCAM HD422 footage I would like to edit in AE. I am currently on CS4 which doesn't import this format. I see that PP CS5 does, but what about AE CS5?

    Hi teetime17,
were you able to work with HD422 50/1080/25p (or 30p) footage in cs5? With this I do not only mean whether you were finally able to import the files. What I mean is whether it was practical to work with HD422 footage in cs5 (without downframing or other reduction in quality). Sorry to reopen this threat after so many years, but I need to work with HD422 50/1080/30p footage and I am trying to build a workstation on a tight budget.
    Thanks!

  • Need to edit/convert XDCAM HD422 in .mov wrapper on PC

From what I've been able to deduce, wrapping XDCAM HD422 in a mov only works on a Mac. I need to be able to edit or convert it in Premiere Pro on a PC. I have a mac laptop available if that needs to be what converts, though I'd rather a solution on the PC (the laptop is old).
I've seen links to Calibrated{Q} XD Decode, but can anyone confirm this works? I'd rather a free solution since there are so many free convertors like MPEG Streamclip and ffmpeg.
    Codec: XDCAM HD422 1080p24 (50 Mb/s)
    Wrapper: .mov
Premiere Pro = "Codec missing or unavailable."
    Thanks.

Very interesting. That explains a lot.
But AME definitely does not read it. The Source preview pane displays a black area instead of the video--not only that, but it displays the square in 4:3 instead of 16:9 (the video ratio), meaning it's definitely not reading the footage. If I run it through and convert it, it transcodes the audio but not the video (it just turns out black).
Premiere reads it just fine, audio and video. If I add the footage to a timeline and export, I can queue it into AME and it will export without problems.
All is up to date through CC.
As a side note, the footage gives a yellow bar when added to the timeline (something I've yet to see editing any raw footage added in Premiere), so it will take longer to edit/render.

  • Best AVI export settings for a XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR FCP timeline

I've editted a couple of XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR timelines in Final Cut Pro. The dimensions of the source footage and timeline sequence settings are 1920 x 1080 XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR.
They will be used at a large conference center and the client has asked me to delivery HD AVI files.
So far, everytime I export an AVI file from either the FCP timelines, or HD Quicktime XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR composites that I've made from the timeline, the AVI file that results is either alot smaller than the 1920 x 1080 quicktime file and/or pixelated to some degree, and not as clean as the HD quicktime.
I have very little experience with AVI and was hoping someone could suggest appropriate export settings. As I said, the client only indicated they want AVI files, and that their equipment can display HD files.
So I'm trying to maintain the quality of the original and editted footage.
I'd like to work with the tools and export options available within FCP7 (FCS3) and quicktime, as opposed to having to purchase some AVI transcoder, but I guess I'd be open to that if I had to otherwise take a huge quality hit.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I'd like to work with the tools and export options available within FCP7 (FCS3) and quicktime, as opposed to having to purchase some AVI transcoder
As far as I know there are no tools/export options within FCP7 (FCS3) and/or Quicktime to do what you probably want to do (compressed HD AVI export). But if a fully uncompressed 1920x1080 AVI export is ok for you / your client then you can use Export > Quicktime Conversion, set the Format to AVI and change the Options >> Video >> Settings >> Compression type to "None" ... bear in mind that this will produce some pretty big exports file size wise (about 6-7 GB per minute).
Or instead, you can download and use MPEG Streamclip. Open your HD Quicktime XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR composites into MPEG Streamclip and choose File > Export to AVI ... then in the AVI Exporter window you can +choose the codec+ you need and press the "Make AVI" button (leave the settings at default, especially Frame Size which should be "unscaled"). Note that AVI is just a wrapper, not a codec. Make sure you chose an HD capable codec that your client can handle (it's unlikely that they will be able to play back any Apple XDCAM EX variant, or indeed any codec that starts with "Apple").
Or just send them an unscaled H264 test file and see how they get on with that (and you can export H264 from FCP, Compressor, Quicktime and/or MPEG Streamclip). It's scalable (handles any resolution including HD) and is pretty much universally supported delivery codec. I'd expect your client would be happy to accept it if you explain that the format will offer the quality the need.
However you proceed I'd strongly recommend you send the client a few test encodes first to have them confirm that they can indeed read / handle your encodes correctly.
    Hope it helps

  • Exporting XDCAM EX 1080i60 to another format = dark picture

Material was shot in XDCAM EX 1080i60. I noticed when I made screen caps for the client as .tifs that the image was much darker than my original footage. I tried to then export video clips, I tried exporting Pro Res HQ with and without gamma adjustment and tried exporting it out as it's native codec XDCAM EX,...all resulted in crunched blacks. I will need to convert this at some pint in the future and need to know how best to do it and maintain it's luminance.

Try exporting as quicktime movie with current settings, see what it looks like.

  • XDCam HD422 to prores confusion

I'm editing a project shot on a Sony F3, outputting to a Nanoflash at 180mbs.
When I brought it into FCP to check the details in the browser the codec was "XDCAM HD422 1080p25 (50 Mb/s). This is the first time I've cut with footage shot in this codec, and my plan was to convert to Prores as usual.
What I'm confused about is a; why does the browser say the XDCAM footage is 50 Mb/s when it was shot at 180 MB/s and b; when I do convert the footage to Prores, the resulting file is only 2/3rd the size of the original HDCAM file. Shouldn't it be bigger?
I'm holding off going any further on the project to I can be sure I have the correct workflow.
    Any help appreciated.
    cheers
    hugh

Hi David, thanks for your suggestion.
I'm almsot certain that's not the case in this instance, as the information in the browser for other codecs/calculations matches up usualy. Also a 1:8 ratio doesn't reflect the difference I'm experiencing, which is closer to 1:3.2.
    Cheers

  • Help! XDCAM HD422 audio all broken!

    Hi,
I'm trying to import XDCAM HD422 footage (1080p @ 25fps 50mb/s; audio 48Hz @ 16-bit) into FCP 7 using Sony's XDCAM Transfer app. I am using a 2008 MacBookPro and the footage was given to me on an external hard drive. I imported the footage using XDCAM Transfer and the clips play perfectly fine in QT or Finder viewer, but when I import to Final Cut the audio is all chopped up and runs shorter than the clip.
The sequence setting is set to the XDCAM HD422 1080@25 setting, with audio matching the source files (48Hz @ 16-bit) but it is still broken. Even before placing the clips in the timeline, they don't even work from the FCP browser viewer. Does anybody know a solution to this problem? I have looked for hours online and can't find any solution. Please help!
    Thank you.

Why aren't you using log and transfer from WITHIN fcp?  You'll need to load the sony plug in.

  • XDCAM HD422 support

Have anyone try to put MXF's from Sony PDW-700 into Premiere? ^_^
When we recive native support of XDCAM HD422? :)

    Hi friend,
    I have tried this.
I saw that you can IMPORT XDCAM HD MXF's directly to your projects. However, exporting to XDCAM HD MXF's is only possible using third-party plug-ins like the mainconcept HD 4.
I have a lot of questions about working with XDCAM HD in Premiere Pro and working with playout systems.

  • XDCAM HD422 1080i/50 (50 mbps)

I cannot find export codec  XDCAM HD422 1080i/50 (50 mbps) (trial version) it maybe present in the full registered version?

Hello. I have just recorded XDCAM 422 1080i 50 and I'm trying to find the best pobbible export settings - this is what I am using currently
I am having trouble with exporting this setting. Fast moving images are ghosty  in places. ie moving hands.
I am exporting it as H.246
    HD 1080i 25
And I set to "Match Source"
and I use Render at Maximum Depth and use Maximum Render quality.
Am i using the correct settings?
ps I don't think any shutter was used on the day so could this be the reason?
    Kind Regards

  • Broadcast HD 1080i60 vs XDCAM EX 1080i60

I was under the impression that the new project presets in Motion were just that-- presets to get your resolution, framerate, etc to match your source. In other words, when you choose XDCAM or HDV, you're not actually +working in+ that codec.
But looking through the presets, I see that XDCAM EX 1080i60 and Broadcast HD 1080i60 both contain exactly the same parameters. Is my impression wrong?

Thanks for the speedy reply, Mark. I use XDCAM EX presets in FCP. If I create a preset of HD 1920x1080 square pixels 30p (because that's the format I'm using in the camera) with the sequence compressor as XDCAM EX HQ 1080 30p Final Cut always wants to change the sequence setting to HDTV 1080i. I'm assuming this has something to do with 1080 psf (progressive segmented frame) which is what the EX cameras shoot.
And sorry about posting this FCP thingy in the Motion forum. I was originally doing a search and came across this post and didn't realize I had "crossed over" to the motion forum. This is the part where you say: "hey buddy, this isn't the FCP forum. Take a hike!"

  • XDCAM HD422 playback stutterings and blacks out

When I import XDCAM 422HD clips into my PC based Pr6.01 or 5.5 machine, they will play once on the timeline, and strangely,  after that, they flash black or don't play at all.  I don't have the problem with EX files (I know they are a different codec).  But from what I have read, most editors can play the HD422 files in PPro without a hassle.  Our Machine is pretty fast with raided SSDs and Geforce 570 GFX. Thought it could be memory maybe (running 12 Gig)  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    Steve

Just an addendum to this post... PPro 6.01 won't recognise the MXF files at all... importer reports "generic error".  However if a change the extension to mpg, they import OK.  What the??

  • XDCAM HD422 1080i/50

Several TV-stations require you to deliver this format. On a Mac, you'd have it in a Quicktime, I guess. But since I'm on Windows, could someone please link to a preset for Adobe Media Encoder? If not, list all the correct parameters?

Well this is what i have been sending to Channel ONE in Australia.
Sorry I'm using a mac but worth a shot
    Format:Quicktime
    Preset: HD 1080i 25.................
Video Codec: Apple Pro Ress 422 (HQ)
    Field Order: Pregressive
Tick BOX - Render at Maximum Depth
Tick Box - Use Maximum Render Quality.
Att; I was using upper field for weeks and getting a ghost effect on fast movements because everywhere i read i was told to use upper field. By accident I used Progressive and now i have a great picture and i can sleep at night.

  • XDCAM export to disk

    Hello,
I'm having a problem writing XDCAM clips back to a disk. We shot some car mount footage on another camera (GoPro)
    • I compressed that footage to XDCAM 1080i60 35Mb/s
    • Placed the compressed footage into a Final Cut timeline (XDCAM HD 1080i60 35Mb/s VBR).
    • Set Audio output to four channels, 1 and 2 dual mono and 3 and 4 dual mono.
    • Set our deck (Sony PDW-HD1500) to 59.94i/HD420-1080/HQ/4CH-16Bit
    • File > Export > Sony XDCAM...
    • Export to "Untitled" (the XDCAM disk that's in the deck.
    • As format MXF (HDCAM, HD, HD422)
    • Using settings XDCAM HD 1080i60 VBR
    • REC INHIBIT off on the deck
It won't write that to the disk. I continue to get "Export Failed" windows telling me to check settings and make sure record inhibit is off.
Here's the problem: when I set the settings to XDCAM HD 1080i60 CBR (which is 25Mb/s) or XDCAM HD422 1080i60 CBR (which is 50Mb/s) the file writes properly EVEN THE DECK IS SET TO 420HQ.
Our show is shot at the 420HQ (35Mb/s) format and that is what we have to deliver to post.
The problem seems that CBR works just fine and VBR does not. Does the computer have a problem with a variable bitrate that it doesn't have with a constant bit rate?
The footage is not going to suffer at 25Mb/s, since it was shot on the little GoPro camera (it records to an mp4 file at a much lower compression). But we want to get the footage to post in the same format that they're getting everything else.
What can I do to fix this situation?
    Thanks,
    Stef

    Hello Marcus,
You need to install the latest Sony FAM-driver on your Mac for writing your edit back to the disc. I guess that's all.
Importing goes now via the "Media Browser" as I understand it correct. I believe therefore XDCAM Transfer software isn't needed anymore, but I think it wouldn't hurt to have it installed too.
When your edited sequence is written back to the disc, you’re able to play it out on your PDW-700 via the SDI or HDSDI connection.
I still use FCP7 so how it all precisely goes in Premiere, I do not know for sure. I'm sorry for that! Production Premium CS5.5 is installed on my Mac, but haven't used Premiere Pro. Shortly I will be switching to CS6.
Here are some other movies for the PDW-700. In part 4 Andy explains how to write back to the 700 with FCP. I assume it's almost the same with Premiere.

  • PDW-HD1500 - Final Cut Pro export to Sony XDCAM error

I have a sequence in Final Cut Pro with XDCAM HD422 1080i50. When I try to export going via the "File > Export > Sony XDCAM" menu, choose "XDCAM HD422 1080i50 CBR" and hit the "Export" button.
On a 5 minute clip, I get this error message after 8% of exporting. In the system.log in Mac OS X there is a "write error 138" reported by the XDCAM exporter.
If I set an out point to reduce the in-point to just 5 secons, the export is successful. If I try 1 minute, the export fails. If I check "recompress all frames" and export the 1 minute clip, the export is successful.
Waiting for Final Cut Pro to recompress all frames takes too long on a new MacBook Pro 17-inch. 1 minute takes about 4 minutes to recompress.
I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8, Final Cut Pro 6.0.4, QuickTime 7.6.4, XDCAM Transfer 2.11, and firmware version 1.51 on the PDW-HD1500.
I have set the audio outputs of my sequence to 8 tracks dual mono discrete, and set each audio track to go 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and so on. The video settings are XDCAM HD422 1080i50 50Mb.
I have checked that the settings on the PDW-HD1500 is set to HD422, 50i, 8ch 24-bit. Are there any other settings I might have overlooked?
Any suggestions? I would really appreciate some help.

I've had experience wiith using 7toX and never had that message. Have you tried contacting the developer? My guess is they would be responsive.
