XDCAM HD422 support

Have anyone try to put MXF's from Sony PDW-700 into Premiere? ^_^
When we recive native support of XDCAM HD422? :)

Hi friend,
I have tried this.
I saw that you can IMPORT XDCAM HD MXF's directly to your projects. However, exporting to XDCAM HD MXF's is only possible using third-party plug-ins like the mainconcept HD 4.
I have a lot of questions about working with XDCAM HD in Premiere Pro and working with playout systems.

  • XDCAM HD422 support in CS5?

I have some XDCAM HD422 footage I would like to edit in AE. I am currently on CS4 which doesn't import this format. I see that PP CS5 does, but what about AE CS5?

    Hi teetime17,
were you able to work with HD422 50/1080/25p (or 30p) footage in cs5? With this I do not only mean whether you were finally able to import the files. What I mean is whether it was practical to work with HD422 footage in cs5 (without downframing or other reduction in quality). Sorry to reopen this threat after so many years, but I need to work with HD422 50/1080/30p footage and I am trying to build a workstation on a tight budget.
    Thanks!

  • Need to edit/convert XDCAM HD422 in .mov wrapper on PC

From what I've been able to deduce, wrapping XDCAM HD422 in a mov only works on a Mac. I need to be able to edit or convert it in Premiere Pro on a PC. I have a mac laptop available if that needs to be what converts, though I'd rather a solution on the PC (the laptop is old).
I've seen links to Calibrated{Q} XD Decode, but can anyone confirm this works? I'd rather a free solution since there are so many free convertors like MPEG Streamclip and ffmpeg.
    Codec: XDCAM HD422 1080p24 (50 Mb/s)
    Wrapper: .mov
Premiere Pro = "Codec missing or unavailable."
    Thanks.

Very interesting. That explains a lot.
But AME definitely does not read it. The Source preview pane displays a black area instead of the video--not only that, but it displays the square in 4:3 instead of 16:9 (the video ratio), meaning it's definitely not reading the footage. If I run it through and convert it, it transcodes the audio but not the video (it just turns out black).
Premiere reads it just fine, audio and video. If I add the footage to a timeline and export, I can queue it into AME and it will export without problems.
All is up to date through CC.
As a side note, the footage gives a yellow bar when added to the timeline (something I've yet to see editing any raw footage added in Premiere), so it will take longer to edit/render.

  • XDCam HD422 to prores confusion

I'm editing a project shot on a Sony F3, outputting to a Nanoflash at 180mbs.
When I brought it into FCP to check the details in the browser the codec was "XDCAM HD422 1080p25 (50 Mb/s). This is the first time I've cut with footage shot in this codec, and my plan was to convert to Prores as usual.
What I'm confused about is a; why does the browser say the XDCAM footage is 50 Mb/s when it was shot at 180 MB/s and b; when I do convert the footage to Prores, the resulting file is only 2/3rd the size of the original HDCAM file. Shouldn't it be bigger?
I'm holding off going any further on the project to I can be sure I have the correct workflow.
    Any help appreciated.
    cheers

Hi David, thanks for your suggestion.
I'm almsot certain that's not the case in this instance, as the information in the browser for other codecs/calculations matches up usualy. Also a 1:8 ratio doesn't reflect the difference I'm experiencing, which is closer to 1:3.2.

  • Help! XDCAM HD422 audio all broken!

    Hi,
I'm trying to import XDCAM HD422 footage (1080p @ 25fps 50mb/s; audio 48Hz @ 16-bit) into FCP 7 using Sony's XDCAM Transfer app. I am using a 2008 MacBookPro and the footage was given to me on an external hard drive. I imported the footage using XDCAM Transfer and the clips play perfectly fine in QT or Finder viewer, but when I import to Final Cut the audio is all chopped up and runs shorter than the clip.
The sequence setting is set to the XDCAM HD422 1080@25 setting, with audio matching the source files (48Hz @ 16-bit) but it is still broken. Even before placing the clips in the timeline, they don't even work from the FCP browser viewer. Does anybody know a solution to this problem? I have looked for hours online and can't find any solution. Please help!
    Thank you.

Why aren't you using log and transfer from WITHIN fcp?  You'll need to load the sony plug in.

  • XDCAM HD422 1080i/50 (50 mbps)

I cannot find export codec  XDCAM HD422 1080i/50 (50 mbps) (trial version) it maybe present in the full registered version?

Hello. I have just recorded XDCAM 422 1080i 50 and I'm trying to find the best pobbible export settings - this is what I am using currently
I am having trouble with exporting this setting. Fast moving images are ghosty  in places. ie moving hands.
I am exporting it as H.246
    HD 1080i 25
And I set to "Match Source"
and I use Render at Maximum Depth and use Maximum Render quality.
Am i using the correct settings?
ps I don't think any shutter was used on the day so could this be the reason?
    Kind Regards

  • XDCAM natively supported in Render Engine

  • HT4682 Hwy is the XDCAM not supported???

Why is the XDCAM not supported? Anyone have any ideas about this most epic fail in FCPX.

    Tom,
Sorry about this post. I use a few different cameras in my work and the   XDCAM is the most user friendly of the bunch. It would seem though, every time I would ingest the footage on to my mac pro 2009-2012 using the XDCAM transfer software fCPX would crash and crash and crash until I stopped trying to import it. After a  couple hours of frustration and trouble shooting, I finally figured out that it had nothig to do with XDCAM or FCPX. The crash was related to an old piece of firewire hardware and its driver. The hardware culprit was the M-audio FIrewire 410 series. Upgraded to the newer Profire series and Viola. Sorry about lashing out at FCPX. It really is a great program.

  • XDCAM HD422 playback stutterings and blacks out

When I import XDCAM 422HD clips into my PC based Pr6.01 or 5.5 machine, they will play once on the timeline, and strangely,  after that, they flash black or don't play at all.  I don't have the problem with EX files (I know they are a different codec).  But from what I have read, most editors can play the HD422 files in PPro without a hassle.  Our Machine is pretty fast with raided SSDs and Geforce 570 GFX. Thought it could be memory maybe (running 12 Gig)  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    Steve

Just an addendum to this post... PPro 6.01 won't recognise the MXF files at all... importer reports "generic error".  However if a change the extension to mpg, they import OK.  What the??

  • XDCAM EX support not present on new CS4 install

    Hello All,
I recently had to reinstall my MAC OSX and completely reformat my hard drive.
So I reinstalled Premiere CS4 and now none of the new codec support is there, even with the latest updates.
AVCHD, XDCAM, RED, all gone from the list of presets, and I can't import any of those file types into Premiere AT ALL!
The only available presets are AVC-Intra, DV, DVCPRO, and Mobile Devices.
    I'm using a:
    Mac Pro 8-core 2.8Ghz
    6GB RAM
    Running on Snow Leopard
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 w/ latest updates
Anyone have this problem or know how to get back all the latest formats support?
    Thanks
    Foster

I'm having the same issue. I upgraded to CS4 and XDCAM EX options are no longer available as project options???
I'm running on Windows XP with a Matrox Axio LE.

  • Starting to move to Color, is XDCAM EX supported?

I am just beginning to move from CC 3-way to trying to use color for some sequences. Can I continue to use the XDCAM EX 35mb codec in color or should I be using Compressor to transcode to ProRes before sending to Color?

Your apprehension is somewhat justified. There are some things that COLOR might like better dealing with ProRes from the get-go -- mostly avoiding the processing pitfalls of Long-GOP, trackers might work better, and so on, but you might save some media storage overhead by going the direct route with XDCam. I believe this is Michael Trauffer's general workflow, which may be in an archived post on this site -- worth a search.
Yes, you will be dealing with a ProRes sequence back in Final Cut (if you choose not to do Uncompressed) There really shouldn't be much difference other than media file size.

  • XDCAM HD422 1080i/50

Several TV-stations require you to deliver this format. On a Mac, you'd have it in a Quicktime, I guess. But since I'm on Windows, could someone please link to a preset for Adobe Media Encoder? If not, list all the correct parameters?

Well this is what i have been sending to Channel ONE in Australia.
Sorry I'm using a mac but worth a shot
    Format:Quicktime
    Preset: HD 1080i 25.................
Video Codec: Apple Pro Ress 422 (HQ)
    Field Order: Pregressive
Tick BOX - Render at Maximum Depth
Tick Box - Use Maximum Render Quality.
Att; I was using upper field for weeks and getting a ghost effect on fast movements because everywhere i read i was told to use upper field. By accident I used Progressive and now i have a great picture and i can sleep at night.

  • Importing Footage .Mov

XDCAM HD422 support has been there since 6.0.3.

  • XDCAM 422 - Sony PDW700 50mbs Camera Support... When?

I have lodged a support request to confirm when the 50mbs version of the XDCAM codec will be available natively in Premiere.
I attended the NAB in Las Vegas this year to hear first hand that the XDCAM format will be supported natively, (INCLUDING THE NEW Sony PDW700 Camera).
However it is now clear that the recent upgrade does NOT support the 50mpbs codec. I'm quite dissapointed as I have just spent $40,000.00 on a new camera, and Premiere CS3 does not support this camera as stated at the NAB conference..
I am yet to receive a reply from adobe on ETA for this update. I understand there is a 3rd party plugin made by MainConcept, but this is an additional $490.00 I did not budget for.
Does anyone know when Premiere CS3 will natively support the 50mbs codec for the PDW700?

    >Firstly the camera can only shoot at 50mbits for the next 2 to 3 months until a firmware release is issued.
I just know what I read on the Sony site, and they specified a lower bit rate option for that camera.
    >Also why would you want to lower the quality of the source when your hardware supports a 50mbit codec.
Because you are on the bleeding edge of technology, and sometimes you have to make due with what is available in the rest of your production pipeline. Or change your tools.
    >Adobe at the recent NAB conference clearly told me that all XDCAM cameras were now fully supported including the PDW700 that is being released by Sony.
I would say that if you can shoot with the camera and get Premiere to ingest that footage, then it is supported. That a certain bit rate or a certain codec are not supported does not mean the camera isn't supported at all. Maybe Sony should get their act together and issue the firmware update sooner rather than later. I submit that their advertising of capabilities for this camera that don't currently exist is far worse than a 3rd-party software company not supporting an esoteric feature.
    >I am very surprised this has not been addressed in the latest release of CS4, it is almost like they chose to leave the camera out of the specs...I am sitting in a trial version of Vegas 8.0C transcoding all my content from the 50mbit version, back to SD just so I can edit in my preferred application...This is not a way to go through life.
SD is far worse quality than 35 Mbps MPEG2. If you'd record in 35 Mbps MPEG2, you wouldn't have to go all the way down to SD. Oh wait - I almost forgot - Sony's camera won't do what they say it will do. ;) :)
Look, I understand your disappointment, but I would advise patience. XDCAM EX support wasn't included the release version of CS3, yet it arrived before the release of CS4. Don't borrow trouble. Keep in mind that your camera is brand-new, as are its capabilities. It will take the industry a while to catch up, especially if Sony is as snotty with its licensing for camera codecs as it has been for Blu-ray.
