XE  11g install fails

Trying to install XE 11g Express on Windows XP
Install appears to go OK, directories are created.. gets to configuring DB and it just hangs.
When I look in C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\oradata\XE no database files have been created.
The log file C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\log\cnksf28487\client\cls.log has the following
Oracle Database 11g Clusterware Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production Copyright 1996, 2010 Oracle. All rights reserved.
2012-01-18 16:30:37.803: [ default][5392]ut_read_reg:2:ocr registry key SOFTWARE\Oracle\olr cannot be opened. error 2
[    CLSE][5392]clse_get_crs_home: Error retrieving OLR configuration [0] [Error opening olr registry key. The system cannot find the file specified.
Any ideas >

Good you got it going!

Un-installed XE. Checked disk space - down to 4.5Gb. Cleared out c: drive now 12.5GB free. Re-installed cleanOne of my installs says 4,6 GB used currently, but it has been running for some months now.
Don't remember if the choice existed in XP even, but is the volume FAT or NTFS?

  • OBIEE 11g install fails on step 7 (database connect string)

I've currently spent 2 days trying to install OBIEE 11g on two machines (independently). This first is a Windows XP SP3 test PC running 4GB RAM, whilst the second is a Windows 2003 virtual server with 3GB RAM. The Database is Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0) on AIX 5.3.
The DBA has successfully run the RCU on the Database and the schemas needed for OBIEE have been created. The BIPLATFORM schema has also been granted DBA privileges.
Now I've tried to run both the simple and the Enterprise install for OBIEE 11g, but it always fails at the same step (step 7 of 13: Database details). I have selected the following:
    Database Type: Oracle Database
Connect String: hostname:port:instance, where hostname is the full server path eg xxxxx.uk.com and instance name is FFADEV01
BIPLATFORM Schema Username: As per username defined in RCU
BIPLATFORM Schema Password: As per password entered in RCU
If i change the connection string to FFADEV01.WORLD i get a 08031 error, whereas I am normally getting an 08035 error. The annoying thing is that I can connect to the schema using RapidSQL and the usernames and passwords as created in the RCU.
    Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

How was he able to install the BIPlATFORM schema using RCU on AIX? I thought RCU was only on Linux and Window platforms? I am about to install OBIEE 11.1.1.5 on AIX with a Oracle 10g DB but from what I read I wont be able to create the needed OBIEE schemas for the install because I won't be able to use the RCU on AIX. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi All,
Thanks for the response. Turns out I had to remove the underscore (_) from my computer name for the Configuring Domain process to work. Even though this worked, my OBIEE installation still failed at a later stage called PolicyStoreMerge. I have attached the log below.

  • 11g Install Failure, Listener Error.

    11g Install Failure, Listener.
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
    descriptor.
I am attempting to install 11g, 11.1.0 onto a stand alone box which has Windows XP SP2 as the OS.
The box is at present not networked and as is not on a domain. The computer name is homedb.
I have installed the loopback adapter on 10.10.10.10 and updated my hosts file, the computer can resolve this to the computer name and vice versa.
Upon installing 11g and the starter database, the install continues normally, succeeding with the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant. However when the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant is run, 89% of the way through an error is thrown as follows:
Enterprise manager configuration failed due to the following error -
Listener is not up. Start the listener and run EM configuration again.
Refer to the log file at C:\Oracle\cfgtoollogs\dbca\emConfig. Log for more details.
You can retry configuring this database with Enterprise Manager later by manually running C:\Oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\bin\emca script.
When I click ok on the error message the install completes as normal.
I can TNSPING orcl which results in the following:
TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production on 20-JAN-2

    Used parameter files:

    PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)))
    OK (20 msec)
I can connect to the database using sqlplus sys/password as sysdba but when I try to connect using
sqlplus sys@orcl and typing in the password I get the following error:
    ERROR:

This is also the error I get when using sql developer to connect to the db.

I have re run the db configuration again but it would not start because apparently there was no listener, running the Net Configuration Assistant makes no difference.
All firewalls and anti virus software have been disabled for the purposes of this install.
Do I need to manually register the listener with the database, if so how do I go about doing this?
I have installed 10g on a standalone box before with no trouble, what have I missed here?, any help greatly appreciated.

To answer my own question I fixed this by issuing the command
    netsh winsocks reset
Winsocks deals with windows networking and can become corrupt through installs of software, virus cleaning, etc.
    Hope that helps,
    Adam

The installer certainly thinks that you still have a previous ConfigMgr client installed. Perhaps you haven't completely removed it. Use ccmclean.exe from the SMS 2003 tool kit.
If that fails, why not just rebuild the server - you've said that this is a fresh install. I don't like too much messing at the beginning. This can be difficult enough - you need to start with a clean installation of the product.

  • ProClarity 6.3 PAS install fails on Windows Server 2012

We are trying to install PAS 6.3 on Windows Server 2012 and the install fails with the following error
    The following requirements are missing:
    Windows Server 2003 SP1
We have successfully installed on Windows Server 2008 R2, so it really isn't a Windows Server 2003 SP1 issue.
Has anyone successfully installed on Windows Server 2012?  Is there a way to force the installer not to check for the OS?
    Thanks.
    Kevin

I have a PAS server running in Windows 2012, by doing exactly the same pre-requisites  that you do in Windows 2008 r2 (iis, Framework, SQL ADO 2005 / 2008). With the Windows Server 2003 SP1 message you can avoid it by doing a really simple thing that
is right click the setup file --> properties, and head to the "Compatibility Tab" and run it with compatibility mode Windows 7, also run it with Admin permissions. This let you pass by the message and let you install the product.  Remember, after  the
installation, you need to check all the IIS config, folder permissions, that you did in Windows 2008 x64  installation. Also, the App pool needs to work with .NET 2.0 not 4.0.
    Good luck!

  • G5 10.5.8 Combo Update codec overrun - install fails

    Hi,
I still have my first mac, a Power Mac G5, but it has been acting as a center speaker stand for some time now. A couple of years ago it started playing up, I spent hours and pounds trying to fix it, gave up and bought a shiny new iMac. So with the festive season upon us and orders to tidy up, I thought I'd have one last try at fixing it before turning it into a drinks cabinet.
As I recall, it all started to go wrong one day when I tried to download a large update to something. When I tried to install the update I got a Codec Overrun error and/or a Corrupt File message. As it stands today the machine is running a clean install of OSX 10.5.6 and I am failing to install the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg upgrade. I currently have 2 copies of the update.
One copy on the desktop  was downloaded directly from the Apple support site. The .dmg opens and verifies OK and I can launch the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.pkg. This runs through the installation sequence, past the password but finally comes up with an error message "Install Failed. The installer could not validate the contents of the 'MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
Another copy in my downloads folder, put there by the Software Updater, doesn't get that far. It comes up with "Warning,The following disk image failed to mount. Image - MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg, Reason - codec overrun."
    So far I have tried:-
Memory - run third party memory checker application (can't remember which one) and found no faults.Tried different set of memory cards
Hard disk - run all the disk check and repair utilities, re-formatted, repartitioned. Tried a different hard disk.
OSX 10.5.6 - reinstalled from original disks several times.
MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8 - downloaded via Software Updater process and direct from Apple Support website. Downloaded via wi-fi, ethernet, different Mac, different PC. Always get the exact same file size.
    Resetting the PRAM etc
    New standby battery
    Installing in Safe Mode
    Swearing.
None of this has worked. I get some different error messages but they are all variations of "codec overrun", "corrupt file" or "Install failure"
Anyone got any other ideas? Or should I just get on with the drinks cabinet conversion?
    Thanks

That message isn't a space available message. If you bring up Disk Utility, how does it say the partition is formatted, ie, partition format, write status, and partition map scheme? Assume SMART status is verified, yes?

  • Family Pack Leopard install fails G4 Dual 1.2Ghz

All, I purchased the Leopard family pack and have successfully installed it on an Intel Macbook Pro and a G5 2.3Ghz DP machine - flawless, no problems during installation or after.
However, any attempt to install on a G4 Dual 1.2Ghz + 2Gb of RAM + just bought a Seagate 500Gb Barracuda internal drive (well within the designated technical requirements), I've tried the following.
    1. Booting the G4 off the Leopard install DVD, I get the following error: Failed Install message = "The Installer could not validate the contents of the Essentials Package...".
I can never get beyond this point. After receiving this error, the internal disk isn't even recognized on the bus - I have to pull the disk out, put it in an external case to reformat it. I've even tried a low level format and also had Seagate replace the disk thinking it was defective.
    2. I then thought it may be an issue with putting the Seagate disk in cable select mode versus master / slave configuration. The Seagate is the only hard drive in the machine. I have tried both cable select and master/slave configuration - both freeze after install, etc. without fail.
    3. Tried installing Leopard on the G4 by connecting it to the G5 in target disk mode. It installed, but routinely just freezes (NEVER had this issue with Tiger on this machine).
I do see lots of people posting issues with the "The Installer could not validate the contents of the Essentials Package..." error.
For the record, after successful Leopard install using technique #1 and #3 - I am also unable to run the Migration assistant - it fails every time with a kernel panic. I'm not having any trouble with the Leopard install media on any of the other 2 machines, nor did I have issues running the migration assistant.
    Any ideas are appreciated. thx,

themdg - you said you put back your 2-512 original RAM cards and tried to install Leopard and the install failed. But my original, factory-installed RAM was third-party RAM which prevented me from installing Leopard, giving the “essentials” error. Only when I purchased RAM from Apple, and used only that RAM to install, could I get it to work correctly.
Check your original RAM. If it is not the Apple brand, it may not work because of that, even if it was the factory-installed RAM.
After I installed Leopard with only the Apple RAM, I added back the third-party RAM and I’ve been running Leopard flawlessly since.
It seems the installation software, which meticulously checks the installer disk for flaws, should also check the RAM to see if the installation will be successful (i.e., check to see if it is going to produce the “essentials” error) and also check to see if you have enough valid RAM to install, before it begins installation, and to let the user know there will be a problem unless the RAM is changed to valid cards.
I “assumed” I had enough valid RAM when I first tried to install Leopard because I had a G5, but it had only 256 MB of non-Apple brand RAM (minimum of 512 is required). A direct check of that by the installer and letting me know it was a problem would have saved me a lot of trouble checking lots of other potential problems, like a bad installer disk, a third-party drive, etc., before I figured out it was insufficient and incompatible RAM for the installation.
I read the minimal requirements for installation of Leopard and probably someone will say I should have checked all those before I tried the installation, but I didn’t, as I’m sure many others have not, because we “assume” Apple had tested it and would prevent us from making any mistake like this.
Previously Apple made their software and hardware to “just work” by providing error messages before we made an error and we have come to rely on that. But they overlooked this problem on this update. It’s the first time I’ve had a problem with an update from Apple.
I’m still a loyal Apple user, but I’ll check requirements a little closer with future updates.

    Hi,
Have you try to increase MaxPermSize, it may occure memory issue.
change the Middleware/ORACLE_BI1/oui/oraparam.ini and fine it like below
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m" then try to change it
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=2048m"
(i.e:It will increase the numbers for allocating more memory) then save it and then try to run config.bat (software only/enterprise) method and configure it.
    Thanks

  • SCOM agent install fails Error 80070035 - the network path was not found

I have deployed SCOM 2012 agents to most servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012R2) in our estate but some either fail to install or are not monitored. I assume the two problems are related, but for now I am concentrating on the servers that fail completely.
Installation is from the Discovery Wizard and I have about 20 servers that fail of various server versions.
So looking at one specific server that is failing to install the agent - a 2008 standard service pack 2
The firewall in on and file and printer sharing is enabled for domain, remote administration is enabled for domain
I added a specific rule to allow TCP 5723 and 5724
    DCOM is enabled
I can Ping the target server from the SCOM server by both name and FQDN - both return the same IP and our DNS server has only one entry for this server
I can browse to the admin share \\server\C$ from the SCOM Server, using the same account that I specify for the agent install that is a domain admin with rights on this server (and on the other servers the agent
did install to) and the server has plenty of disk space available
I am not sure what else to look at so would welcome any ideas
    Thanks

    Hi Petro,
I have a Agent installation failure cheat sheet, For your error 80070035 it is said to perform a manual installation.
So i would like to understand which version of SCOM is this ? 2007 R2 or 2012 or 2012 r2 ?
Also check if your agents have the WMI service started and enabled ?
Also if yours is a SCOM 2007 R2 do you have a RMS & MS in your management group ? If yes then Pushing the agent installation from MS may cause such issue. So would suggest you push the installation from RMS.
Also check if your Network connectivity meets the minimum requirement as recommended by SCOM. Below is applicable for Both SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012 & 2012 R2.

    Component B

    1.  Check the PATH environment variable.  If the PATH statement is very long, due to lots of installed third party software - this can
fail.  Reduce the path by converting any long filename destinations to 8.3, and remove any path statements that are not necessary.

could be corrupted Performance Counters on the target Agent.
To rebuild all Performance counters including extensible and third party counters in Windows Server 2003, type the following commands at a command

    %windir%\422C3AB1-32E0-4411-BF66-A84FEEFCC8E2
When you install or remove a management agent, the Operations Manager 2007 management server copies temporary files to the remote computer. One
of these files is named LockFileTime.txt. This lock file is intended to prevent another management server from performing a management agent installation at the same time as the current installation. If the management agent installation is unsuccessful and
if the management server loses connectivity with the remote computer, the temporary files may not be removed. Therefore, the LockFileTime.txt may remain in the folder on the remote computer. When the management server next tries to perform an agent installation,
the management server detects the lock file. Therefore, the management agent installation is unsuccessful.

  • ITunes 10.6.1 install failed

The system attempted to automatically update iTunes recently. It failed. I was busy at the time so I didn't really pay any attention to it. Fast forward a few days to now. When I launch iTunes, I am told "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes." I tried to do just that. I downloaded the 10.6.1 installer from Apple and attempted to install it. Again, the installation failed. Below are the Console messages. How do I correct this problem? I have already repaired disk permissions, verified the disk, and rebooted. The most notable things I did recently were:
    1) Updated Xcode from the App Store app. When the download and update completed, I accidentally hit the update all button in the App Store app again causing Xcode to start downloading. I immediately paused the download. The paused download disappeared from the App Store app's available updates list but it did appear in Launchpad. I tried to delete paused download from Launchpad and it didn't appear to work but somehow, it is now nowhere to be found in Launchpad.
    2) Streamed videos from my MacBook to my new Apple TV. Incidentally, the Apple TV malfunctioned (all icons but Computers and Settings were displayed) and I had to reset it to factory defaults. It works again.

This problem is resolved. I deleted the old iTunes (with write permissions turned on for my account) and reinstalled successfully. Removing the deleted iTunes from Trash was troublesome even with root but after playing around with permissions and flags, I was able to remove it.

  • _10.7 push install failed, and fubar'd everything

Just got a push notice to update to 10.7 (from 10.6.??).  I acked the message, and after a zillion minutes, got an error message that the install failed, and that I need to do download only and manually install.  So, I tried that.  Failed with-- "The installer as encountered an unexpected error installing this package.  This may indicate a problem with this package.  The error code is 2324."  So, I tried uninstall, presumably of the 10.6.?? that's been on the machine for a while, and has been working.  Uninstall fails with same error as above.  So... I downloaded 10.7 and tried to install ON TOP OF current, still working install.  Same permission error, and now, whatever munged version is actually on the machine (the previously working 10.6, 10.7, or some amalgam of the two) gives me the following error when I attempt to run it-- "The item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions."  If I Explorer to %ProgramFiles(x86)%\iTunes, I get "... is not accessible. Access is denied."  I CAN access %ProgramFiles%\iTunes (the 64 bit folder), and there are files... but nothing executable... just a resource folder and a handful of dll's.
I am admin on the machine (actually, I am the ONLY human account on the machine... only others are typical system service accounts).  Machine is WIN7 Premium, SP1.  It is very stable, has no recent (in the last month or so) changes, except a hanful of Windows Update patched from last week.
Suggestions on how to get the machine out of this "iTunes is broken, but can't uninstall/install to fix it" loop???
    Grrrrrr.

Community support seems to be slow moving .  Others not having this problem?
I spent 4 hours culling through registry, killing off any keys that remotely resembled "apple" or "itunes," manually deleted program files, and then forced msiexec to unregister the GUID, mixed in with a zillion reboots, and was able to install 10.7 clean.  BTW, SAME problem on second machine... so it is highly unlikely this is "a Windows problem."  Apple, please check your installer package... methinks it'd fubar.
