XE and Personal Edition

Since we now have the free XE, does that mean the personal edition is going away?
Just curious.

  • Difference Between Enterprise and Personal Editions?

    Hi All,
I want to install Oracle 9i on Window XP Pro. I am wondering what is the difference between the Enterprise Edition and the Personal Edition? Do they both come with the Enterprise Manager clients that I am used to using?
    Any advice much appreciated.

    Hi Alex,
You can get the information from the "doc" directory in the "disk1". If case you do not have it, I had copy it here for you. Hope it can help you to know more about the differences before choosing which one to install. I too have the tough time deciding until I came across this information.
Enterprise Edition: If you select this type, Oracle Universal Installer installs a preconfigured seed database, networking services, licensable Oracle Options, database environment tools, the Oracle Enterprise Manager framework of management tools, including Console, Management Server, and Intelligent Agent, Oracle utilities, and online documentation. It also installs those products most commonly used in data warehousing and transaction processing environments.
Standard Edition: If you select this type, Oracle Universal Installer installs a preconfigured seed database, networking services, Oracle Enterprise Manager framework of management tools, including Console, Management Server, and Intelligent Agent, and Oracle utilities.
Personal Edition: If you select this type, Oracle Universal Installer installs the same software as the Enterprise Edition installation type, but supports only a single user development and deployment environment that requires full compatibility with Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition.

  • Portal and Personal Edition 8.1.7

"Oracle9iAS Portal is not supported on 8.1.6 Personal Edition."
OK. But what about Personal Edition 8.1.7? The same?

Yes, the same. Portal requires 8.1.7 Standard edition or 8.1.6 Enterprise edition.

  • Forms and Reports 6i and Personal Edition

Is it possible to install formas and eports 6i on a win98 workstation running Personal editon 8.1.6? I want to learn the product but don;t want to purchase unless it will work.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it4s possible to do that. However, when you will install Developer 6i, install it on a different Oracle Home from where you installed your database. After that, copy the files TNSNAMES.ORA and LISTENER.ORA from the directory where you installed the database to the new Oracle Home. Good luck.

  • Can't  loging to Designer Product in Oracle 8i Personal Edition

    HI YOU!
    Can you help me?
I have problems starting Oracle Designer 6.x in my pc Windows 98 and Personal Edition 8i.
I'm not in a LAN and I don't have the client installed.
I don't know the user systems for Designer, I prooved with the SYSTEM anad SYS user but I cant access to the product.
    Any idea?
    Do I requiere the client?.
    THANKS!
    DAVE.

I think you have to start again with your installation.
A few months ago, I installed Designer 6i r4.3 on my standalone Home Pc.
Installing Designer 6i r4.3 on you PC, with a local database, you need to do the following. I think it isn't difficult, but yu have to read the installation guides of these product carefully before installing!
Installing consist of the following main steps
    1. Install a certified database server, i.e. 8.1.7 or 9i. (And NOT personal 8i! You can download a copy from OTN).
    2. Install the Designer client in a DIFFERENT Oracle Home than the server
    3. Install the Designer Server on the Database server
    4. Install Developer
Do you have a PC with enough power? I need enough diskspace and memory (at least 256 MB, but 512 is much better!)
    Regards,
    Harm

  • Lite vs. Personal Edition

What is the difference between the Lite and Personal Edition versions?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Oracl 9i Lite is specifically for handheld-applications, while personal is more of a 'stripped' version of the database for use on pc's.

  • Is "Personal Edition" the same as"Express Edition"?

    Hello,
I downloaded the 10g Express Edition and during the setup it gave me the option to choose Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition, and Personal Edition. I wasn't sure which to choose so I chose Personal Edition. I'm want to use the database in an application that I'm going to develop. Is this the correct version I need?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Where you have download installer?
Express Edition is free and have limitations. Other editions need licence.
Express edition installer do not give you option to select among Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition, and Personal Edition.

  • Differences between Oracle Personal Edition and Enterprise Edition

What are the differences between the databases of Oracle Personal Edition and the Oracle Enterprise Edition..?

I have just looked at the metalink document and see that Oracle are still blatantly lying about the availability of analytical functions.
We chose standard edition on the basis of this document and were very annoyed to find we could not use analytical functions.
The document is about 8i. Of course we are all on 9i these days aren't we ?

  • 10g Personal edition and DHCP

When installing the 10gR2 Personal edition of Oracle onto a machine with DHCP, does the need for a loopback adapter to fake a static IP address still apply ?
I can understand the need for a fixed IP address when installing the server edition (standard or enterprise), but does that also apply to personal edition ?
Given that the purpose of personal edition is to be installed on workstations, which will almost certainly use DHCP, this would mean everyone wanting to use personal would also need to setup a loopback adapter. Is this so, or does the need for a fixed IP address not apply to personal edition, as it is a single user edition that no one else can connect to ?
    Thanks,
    Andy Mackie

Bottom line is yes.... at least in my experience.
I've installed 10G(r1), 10GXpress, and 10Gr2 on a corporate laptop (tiny tablet PC actually) to try to get away from the MS Loopback adapter issue without any success.
I've found with each one I had to install or configure some loopback adapter and modify the configuration files to use it or I would simply run into the same problems with the IP address at bootup.
The problem seems to lie in the point of installation with the computer being connected to any network and looking for its own static IP address. This problem is a pain when you want the computer to either be mobile or use a DHCP hosted IP.
I have tested an proven the solution on over 150 deployed 10G family databases on a deployed farm of mobile computers, if you need any pointers....

  • Personal Edition and

    Hello Oracle Community,
I have bought a personal edition, it is like an enterprise edition for just one person. My question is, I am allowed to install options like partitioning as well or do I need to buy them extra ?
    Krischer

    Hi Kricher;
yes, I have access to the oracle support, that was one reason to buy it and not to use the express version. I only need it for myself, but its nice to have the enterprise options as well. So I can train on it and use for my personal data. I would buy the learning CD as well, but they are far to expensive. You can find many document from oracle site(even practice) and also you have metalink account, many time you will get information about virtual class invitation or virtual event invetation..
If you need any document or metarial please just post it here.. Me and my other forum users will be happy to answer you

Perhaps if you asked about a specific error instead of a vague question about the differences between two obsolete editions of Oracle, you would have received a response more to your liking.

  • Oracle Personal Edition and SQL dev. tool

I installed Oracle 10g Personal Edition on my laptop and want to use SQL Creator (SQL developer's tool/program - http://www.snefru.com/index.jsp) with it.
I'm trying to setup my SQL developers tool to connect to my local Oracle database and there is a connection wizard for the SQL program which prompts me:
    1.) "Select a JDBC driver..."
2.) "Enter Host name for the server that the database is located on...."
3.) "Enter Port number that the database is listening on...."
4.) "Unique SID of the database instance..."
How can I find out 1.) - 4.) for my specific, local database?
    Thanks in advance...

When you run SQL*Plus, what is the version number displayed:
    C:\>sqlplus
    SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.3.0 - Production on Tue Nov 22 17:11:44 2005
Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.
    Enter user-name:?
You woudl download the driver that matches with that release.
if you did the database install, chances are you already have the jdbc driver installed.
    Do you have a directry ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib ?
Do you have files like classes*.jar in that directory?
if you do you already have the jdbc driver files.
