XE and Security Patches

We have a group of SOA Suite developers uisng Oracle XE 10 locally on laptops. We are getting advised by IT security that securiy patches are needed.
We are looking at following options - Apply security patches to XE 10 , upgrade to XE 11 or move to Oracle Standard DB.
A couple of questions:
1. Are security patches available for XE 10? If so, where do you get the patches?
2. Would moving to XE 11 include security patches?
Appreciate any input.
Thanks

1) No, XE cannot be patched.
2) For 11g, same answer, there are no security patch sets available for any XE.
11g might have security patches up to the time it was released but there have been several patches released since. If the security patches are needed a different edition is required.

I am new to macs and I have a question regarding OS updates and security patches. I installed the 10.5.4 update. Do I need to install the 2008-004 security update?
    Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions and welcome to Mac
The easiest way to find out exactly what your Mac needs is to go to your Apple menu and choose Software Update.
EDIT: It should include it but I had to check because I used the Combo Update.

  • Airport and security patch?

Last night, after I install the latest security patch I have a problem with airport.
I am able to connect to wireless network after rebooting/power-up. However, when I try to connect to wireless networks after putting it to sleep (as in closing the computer for a minute or longer) it's not able to see any wireless network. I try to connect by turning on and off the airport. It can't "see" any wireless network. Then I try to connect it manually by typing in the network name and password. It cannot connect to it and cannot see any available wireless network out there. I have to reboot to get it to "see" and connect to wireless network.
Does anyone has the similar issue? What is the solution to this?

    Hi!
I read all the airport issues of it not working after being asleep. it wakes up and will not see any airport at all..but will work fine on restart. I was fortunate to have installed it on just one the ibook 366
after all the reading I decided to try a reinstall of the march security update.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/securityupdate20070031039client.html
so far it is working fine and reawakes resetting the airport connection too.
hope it helps till apple reconfigures the update for april.

  • The possibility of only backing up security patches

    Hi everyone,
I'm pretty new to Windows Server 2012 Native Backup. I have a server that has hardened configuration and security patches applied initially. At this point I need to backup all of it as part of my backup and recovery plan. There are several .NET customer
applications running in my Windows Server 2012 as well. If I use Native Backup tool in Windows Server 2012, my understanding is that it will back up everything inside the virtual machine including all of the custom applications.
My concern is the possibility of backing up only newest security patches/updates installed in my virtual machine. When the machine goes down, I can restore hardened configuration and all security patches. I don't want to restore anything else.
Can built-in backup tool in Windows Server 2012 allow me to do that? Do you know any other tool that help in my case?
Your recommendation would be always much appreciated.

Thanks Tim for your answer. I just wanted to back up initial configuration including security patches only. I didn't want to do machine level backup. Think about a recovery strategy when I only have to get back from the initial configuration with newest
security patches or other policies applied. Machine-level backup looks unreasonable to my plan.
By the way, It would be good if you could spend a little bit of your time reading another question of mine here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/e6955b96-081d-404b-bc31-663447900e19/ad-configuration-backup-using-windows-server-2012?forum=winserver8gen).

  • Arch and security updates

    Hi all,
I was thinking about security updates and wondered how Arch deals with them.
    For example:
Gentoo has a huge repo and security patches are applied when needed.
Ubuntu has a huge repo only if you enable the universe and multiverse repos, but they don't get security updates from the Ubuntu devs
How does Arch handle security updates? What about the packages in community? I'm guessing that they are based on when the maintainers update them?
    Thanks

well when i used it or maintained packages for it most security "patches" came in the form of upgrading to the newest version. For the rare times that a new version of a insecure appp was not released patches would be applied and the arch version woud go up.
God only knows what they do now though.

  • After security patch 03/04/2014 OSX 10.7.5, first one, then a second, external backup drive no longer recognized.  Diagnostics for the FireWire one displays brand name of unit, but Time Machine and its own app don't see it.  Where do I start?

Yesterday I installed the security patch, OSX 10.7.5 to my IMac that is about 2 years old.
Today my Seagate BackupPlus for Mac will power on but is not recognized.  It does not show up as a device, Time Machine says the latest backup was DELAYED, last successful at 03/04/2014 9:35 PM (yesterday) and next backup would begin when the disk was connected.  An error message I did not save said basically the drive was not recognized.   I did all drive's  troubleshooting steps, including installing a newer version of their app.  I tried swapping USB for FireWire, changing electrical outlets, etc.
It seems a bit coincidental to have 2 drives "fail" simultaneously.  Is anyone else having this issue after this security patch?  What would be the approach from the Mac side?  TIA for any assistance.
Please see below regarding the second drive.  Is this a red herring, or does it help pinpoint where the failure might lie?
I also have a Seagate GoFlex that WAS recognized until I did the troubleshooting on the other drive.  When I put it back on after testing the other drive with FireWire, it now is no longer recognized.
    Diagnostics says this about that:
    FireWire Bus:
Maximum Speed:          Up to 800 Mb/sec
    GoFlex Mac:
      Manufacturer:          Seagate
      Model:          0x6090
      GUID:          0x2037600121908F
Maximum Speed:          Up to 800 Mb/sec
Connection Speed:          Up to 800 Mb/sec
      Sub-units:
    GoFlex Mac Unit:
      Unit Software Version:          0x10483
      Unit Spec ID:          0x609E
      Firmware Revision:          0x111
      Sub-units:
    GoFlex Mac SBP-LUN:
Thirdly, in after one of the testing/reboot loops, the HP WiFi printer was no longer recognized, but after a few more it came back.

    I have a similar problem.
Moreover, as my external drive is split in 2 for (a) regular storage // (b) time machine usage, I can see in the Finder that I can connect to the (a) regular storage part and use it normally (image 1).
And I cannot connect to the backup part in Finder , nor see it in Disk Utility, nor use it in Time Machine (although it's listed in the Time Machine preferences, image 2), as it does not connect (image 3).
    Can somebody help?

If the previous Safari suggestion doesn't work try the following:
In Finder, go to Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins and move AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin to the Disabled Plug-ins Folder.  Restart Safari.  If this works you may just want to delete that FUBAR plug-in.
Thanks.  This was the solution for me.

  • OS and DB Security patches and updates

    Dear Experts,
We are going through SOX audits. Auditor is asking me about applied latest OS and Oracle patches to secure SAP systems from threats and attacks.
I told them that we are running on Solaris 9 with Oracle 9.2.0.5
and our severs are behind CHECKPOINT Firewall, and also we have never faced any security breaches and threats and also not facing any performance and efficiency problems in our system.
However, they still persist me about critical security patches for Solaris and Oracle.
Please tell me should I go for applying security patches of Solaris or Oracle if any. I am very worried about possible problems after applying of those security patches.
Please guide me about this issue and tell me about proven and trusted security patches for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9.2.0.5
    Best Regards
    Waqas Ahmad

    > I told them that we are running on Solaris 9 with Oracle 9.2.0.5
First I would like to tell you that your current Oracle version is out of extended support (see SAP on Oracle and the notes the first chapter points to). To get actual (security) patches I would highly recommend upgrading to 10.2.0.4.
    > However, they still persist me about critical security patches for Solaris and Oracle.
They do that because most of the "attacks" to server come from internal users, not from external.
    > Please guide me about this issue and tell me about proven and trusted security patches for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9.2.0.5
For the operating system I would use pca (Patch Check Advanced) - a free too to download and install patches - works like charm (http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/). It can be configured to only download and install security relevant patches.
For Oracle you should install the latest patchset (for 9.2 it's 9.2.0.8 and all the necessary interim patches) and the critical patch updates. However, those CPUs may conflict with necessary other patches so you can either use CPU or the necessary interim patches.
Check note 938986 - Oracle Database 9.2: Patches for 9.2.0

First off, iOS 5 will not run on Macs.   You need to give us your Mac OS X on your Mac to determine which security update you need.  Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac.     And then read the link here:

  • Install IE10 and required security patches with WSUS with only 1 or 2 reboots

We are planning to deploy IE 10 with WSUS.  Currently, it takes 1 reboot to apply IE 10 and 2 subsequent reboots to apply all the identified security patches for IE 10 via WSUS.  We are under close scrutiny to limit the number of times that computers
must be rebooted to apply patches so that we don't impede our business function.
Is there anyway to deploy IE 10 and all required IE 10 security patches with WSUS with only a single or 2 reboots?  As I understand WSUS already "packages" or "layers" patches in a manner to limit the number of reboots and that
various patches must be installed only after pre-requisite patches are identified as installed.
We are rolling out to a couple thousand machines and want to make the business impact as little as possible.
    Any help would be appreciated.

and 2 subsequent reboots to apply all the identified security patches for IE 10 via WSUS.
I find this unusual. Exactly how did you determine this to be the case. Which updates are you actually deploying to an IE10 environment?
My investigation identifies that the only two updates are applicable to an IE10 (on Windows 7) environment. They are MS14-011 (KB290920), released Feb 2014,  and MS14-056 (KB2987107), released Oct 2014. Since these two updates *CAN* be installed
concurrently, at worst these two updates installed concurrently would only trigger one reboot -- assuming they trigger a reboot at all.

My team did the microsoft security patches of Aug2014 and November2014 on 10 client machines (10 macines 2005) without a hitch. The Client machine (Windows 2005) accepted the patch, but all machines one of the applicaiton(VB6.0 and VB.net2005) is not able to

  • Update JDK:Java Security alerts and CPU patching

what should we do if we already have updated the JDK in various oracle database homes? Should we revert / downgrade to JDK back to the original version or let stay with updated versions per previous Java Security alerts and CPU patch availabiltiy notes? as in MOD doc id:1449674.1

CPU is a quarterly update containing all (security) patches that are important but do not need immediate implementation. Other alert patches are more important and should be immediatly implemented.

  • Slow macbook pro since the airport security patch and last OS update about a week ago..

Hi, my Macbook Pro has slowed down to a crawl on the internet since the airport security patch and OS update about 1 week ago.  I am using Firefox 3.6.17 and have tried all versions up to date (but 3.6.17 is the best).  Same issues with Safari too.  I am using an Airport wireless modem also so should not be any issues with compliance.  Local programs seem to run OK... but the internet is slow enough to grow a beard... Do they have a patch for this issue.  It only started after the updates.  Was blazing fast until that.
