Xerox Phaser 6100 under Lion

I have a Xerox Phaser 6100 connected to a USB print server, that I've successfully been using with my computers (Windows, Mac & Linux) for 6+ years, and am trying to figure out a way to get it working with my new iMac running OS X 10.7 Lion. Unfortunately, Xerox support for this printer dropped off some time ago, and the last driver published for OS X was for PowerPC, under 10.5. I am able to use that driver with Rosetta support on my MacBook Pro under 10.6, but with 10.7 that's no longer an option. Does anyone have a workaround that will get it function under 10.7? I've tried adding it as a "Generic Postscript Printer", but that doesn't seem to work; the job clears out of the queue on the comptuer like it's gone through successfully, but it never shows up at the printer.
I suppose that, in the end, it's not a major loss since all my other computers can print to it without problems, but since I try to do most of my daily work on the iMac it would be nice to be able to print to it without swapping over to another machine.

The Xerox web site shows the Phaser 6100 uses a Host-based printing system. There is no mention of it supporting Postscript, hence the lack of any output when using the Generic Postscript driver included with Lion. There is also no mention of it supporting PCL, so that rules out the Generic PCL driver included with Lion.
So unless there is an open source driver that will support this Xerox proprietary printer language, although I could not locate one from the usual places, then it would appear that Lion and any future OS X will not be compatible with this printer.
One workaround for the iMac running Lion could be to print via a shared printer queue, running on one of the Windows computers. Have a read of this blog about how to do this.

  • Xerox Phaser 6100 printer in Mountain Lion?

My migration from old hardware and OS 10.4 is almost complete but I have found no way to drive my Xerox Phaser 6100 printer.  Xerox recently (belatedly!) released a long list of Mountain Lion compatible drivers which were included in the latest system update.  However, although there were multiple Phaser 61XX drivers, 6100 was not one of them.
I really hate to scrap this useful machine.  Any ideas?

The latest Mountain Lion driver support begins with the Phaser 6130N. Tough break on the Phaser 6100.
Xerox has a page with links by operating system to PDF files containing all US Xerox printers compatible with the specific OS. There is a Mountain Lion link there.
If instead, you are wondering what supported non-Xerox printer to buy, look at the manufacturer specific driver updates on apple/support/downloads. Click the name of the driver update, rather than download it. You will see a link to a kb article that lists all currently supported printer models. For that manufacturer and other vendors.

  • Xerox Phaser 6100

Hi there, I'm trying to print from a Xerox Phaser 6100 with my MacBook. I've done everything Xerox have told me to (MacOSX10-6_Matrix.pdf) but no joy. A message pops up in the printer window telling me the software was installed incorrectly. Have tried re-installing etc. Does anyone have any experience with this combination of printer and operating system? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Whew that's quite a list of instructions - I take it you did install Rosetta am I correct?

  • Xerox Phaser 8400 with lion - wrong ink information

    Hi
I have a Xerox Phaer 8400 directly connected to my network via cable. After the upgrade to lion I get always a question mark when I print a document and when I am information about the Maintenance Kit, Wast Tray and ink status that no ink is in the printer but the status of the Maintenace Kit is displayed correct. When I added the printer with the standard, I got the printer name Phaser8400DP (8f:cb:9a) with the type Bonjour. I added the printer via IP (IPP and LPD) as well with the same result and behaviour.
I think, something has changed in the communication between lion and the Phaer 8400. Printer is recogniesed correct with all features and the printer status itself is displayed correct as well (printer deleted and added new). It is annoying to get a question mark and icon notification when I print a document.
I have found no answer in the internet so far. Does anybody has an idea how to fix this problem?
    Thx for your support.

    Hello,
here is the snmp output from the 6200DP.
It appears that the printer reports the toner levels as -3 and the software sees the low level (19) which is indeed not in the range.
But how can I either tell the system
    to ignore the levels
    interpret -3 as "normal"
    Thanks for your help !

  • Leopard and Xerox Phaser 6100

I am unable to get my work Phaser 6100 to work with my MBP. I have installed the drivers a couple of times, but still can't select the printer from the list that OS X leopard seems to support. Does anyone know how I can add the printer as I am having lots of problems trying to get things printed.
    Cheers.

Hi, interestingly I am able to print directly to the Phaser 6100 but since upgrading to 10.5.2 I am unable to use the Phaser with my Airport Extreme (N) Base Station. I have sent this information to both Apple and Xerox but I have yet to hear from either of them.
The 10.5.2 update is also causing problems for two other iMac G5 in the household when trying to print through the Airport. Unlike my MBP they can intermittently print, but I can't seem to find a pattern.
I have to say that I am quite surprised that Apple successfully maintained support over the major upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5 but broke it on a minor update.
On a side note, when trying to debug the issue I discovered that the driver for the 6100 (and for that matter the Samsung CLP-510) have yet to be compiled as Universal Binaries.

  • Xerox Phaser 6110 Not working after lion

I've updated to Lion but i now cannot print on my networked Xerox Phaser 6100 printer. I know that previously i had to have rosetta installed as per the instuctions on Xerox website and everything worked fine. It's just since the update that it has stopped working. The print jonb goes into the queue as normal and just sits there without being printed. If i click on resume i get a message saying "/Library/Printers/Xerox/Phaser6110/rastertoxrx failed".
    Any ideas please?

I have the xerox phaser 8560:
    I also installed Lion at work here;
everything was working fine with the 1.2 driver under snow leopard.
After the lion install, pressing the print button didnt do anything (paused).
I then downloaded and installed the new xerox lion driver (2.09) which at the end of the installation process asks me to locate my printer which i did using its IP address.
Now, trying to print, it doesnt pause anymore, the print job does proceed to the queue, but i get the error 'printer out of ink', which is definately not the case as it printed fine under snow leopard.
Anyone know a solution/workaround for this?
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • Xerox Phaser 6110MFP doesn't work under OS 10.6

Having upgraded to Snow Leopard, I'm no longer able to print to my Xerox Phaser 6110MFP printer:
I'm informed that "The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance."
Reinstallation of the latest version doesn't help. And Xerox' Technical Service throw up their hands and tell me that they know the problem but that they (Xerox) can't keep up with the speed with which Apple publish new versions of the Mac OS.
Seem like I have to buy another printer/scanner. It probably won't be a Xerox...

I'm informed that "The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance."
This is an issue with permissions of the installed driver.
To correct the problem perform the following steps:
    1) Navigate to Applications > Utilities and open a Terminal window.
    2) Type the following command: sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/Printers/Xerox

Printing on my Xerox Phaser 8550 only works for ONE document. The second document always comes out as nonsense. Drivers are up to date, only solution is restarting the mac... Any ideas ?? Whenever I do this under Parallels there is no problem......

  • Duplex printing on Xerox Phaser 6125

Hi all, I am having trouble duplex printing on my Xerox Phaser 6125 which has a manual duplex function. At least in Windows XP, where it works flawlessly. The Duplex choice in the printing/layout screen is greyed out, with whichever Xerox driver I install. Xerox Europe Ltd claim it's the Mac OS which causes this.
Before I decide to switch from XP to Mac: is this true? Is OS Lion resolving this issue?? Such a simple thing which works flawlessly in antiquated XP should surely work on a superior OS, right?

Hi, I faced the same issue, migrating from Windows to MAC and facing this issue in the driver.
I found a workable solution, involving even more manual tasks but works...
Here is how, inside Adobe Reader, but imagine that it would work from other printing apps also:
    1. Select Print, select Booklet
    2. From Booklet subset, select front sides only
    3. Print.
3a. transfer pages into feeder, no turning, flipping, just pick up en in the drawer as they were
    4. Select Print again, under Pages to Print, select More Options
    5. check Reverse Pages
    6. From Booklet subset, select back sides only
    7. Print and a booklet should appear.

  • HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OS 10.6.8 PRINTING WITH XEROX PHASER.  MacPro crashes when printer warms up. Does anyone have a solution? 6360 DN

I've been using Macs since 1984.  Have been using Xerox Phaser printers for ten years.  But with the last update to OS 10.6.8 last summer, I've had problems with crashing when printing.  My MacPro crashes when printing via ethernet prot with Xerox Phaser 6360DN or when the printer warms up.  Worked fine with OS 10.6.7.  Internet postings suggest this is a common problem for all Mac users with Xerox Phaser printers.  Apple put out an update to 10.6.8 to address the problem.  I downloaded it but it did not solve the problem.  Have tried all the Xerox drivers along with Apple drivers.  Can't solve the problem.  Xerox says it's an Apple problem.  Does anyone KNOW how to solve the problem?

sorry, just saw that i was accidently in the snow leopard section....i reposted under the correct section. here's the link.

sorry for the inconvenience, i was looking at other posts using search and didn't realize that i was reading the 10.6 board.
    thanks again!!

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • New Xerox Phaser 6180 and OS 9

I had to replace a Tectronix Phaser and I just got the new one, a Xerox Phaser 6180DN. It is on a LAN at my office (University Medical School) where I use a newer Mac running OS X plus a mixture of older Macs running OS 9 and some PeeCees. I had no problem with OS X in linking to the printer by ethernet, but in OS 9 it does not show up in the chooser using LaserWriter 8. Xerox does not have drivers for this printer under OS 9. Any suggestions?

  • Can't print over USB to Xerox Phaser 3450 using 10.4.9

I am using Mac OS Tiger 10.4.9 and have a Xerox Phaser 3450 printer connected to my Quicksilver G4 via USB.
When I try and print the job spools and the printer whirrs to life, the panel on the printer changes from Ready to saying Printing PS3, then the job ends. Nothing actually gets printed, the little print centre dialog that pops up in the Dock shows the job go from the queue to the completed jobs tab.
    Any ideas?

. . .Entering the thread in midstream--
What printer driver are you trying to use? I scoured the Xerox site for information on this printer. The manual indicates that it can use either PostScript or PCL6 as a printer language.
For PostScript, Xerox has PPDs for CUPS under the Unix drivers. These are in the form of a tarball. You can install the by using using a Control-click on the file and selecting to open with the BOMArchiveHelper or by using the Terminal. If using the Terminal, you can install the files directly by using the command --
    <pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #000; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tar -C /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj <pathToYourDownloadedFile></pre>
You could also try the Generic PCL6 driver that comes with the Gutenprint/Gimp-Print drivers which are probably already on your computer.
These drivers may not give you all the capabilities that you would have if Xerox updated their USB plug-in, but they should allow you to print. I see nothing in the literature that suggests that you cannot use the PostScript via USB. That is the default/stock interface for the printer.

  • Xerox Phaser stopped working

For some reason all three of the computers on my network (all of them upgraded to the most current Leopard version and with all other software updates installed) are no longer able to print to our Xerox Phaser 6180. I've tried just about everything by way of troubleshooting (resetting the network, turning the printer and everything else on and off, deleting and reinstalling the printer), but although the computer will recognize the printer for the purpose of installing it and finding drivers, I am unable to ping it (weird), and efforts at printing stall at 'Attempting to communicate with printer.'
Any thoughts? I called Xerox, and they had absolutely no idea what could be wrong.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Best,
    Arthur Golden

I don't know, man. I'm having no problems at all printing to a variety of machines. I can even print to my (officially not supported under Leopard) HP inkjets. The only thing even close to a problem that I have encountered is that my Brother MFC440CN sometimes drops off the network, and I have to turn it off and then back on again... but that problem has been there since forever, and affects all machines on the network including WinBoxes, and a simple solution is to just turn it off when it's not in use and turn it on just before use. Saves power and ink, too. I'm simply not seeing the printing problem, or the faxing problem, which I suspect may be a subset of the printing problem.
