Xerox Phaser 8400

Hi have a Phaser 8400 which was connected to my old G4 and worked fine. I've now got a G5 and every USB device I connect works fine apart from this printer. Is doesn't even show up in the add printer list, my Epson C62 does though. If I go to System Profiler is does come up so the Mac is actually seeing it but the Printer Utility isn't. I've tried resetting the Printer Utility and zapping the PRam but no joy, and re-installing the drivers. Any other suggestions?

If anyone does look at this then I've resolved the issue. It seems quite a common problem and the way I fixed it was to re-install OS X with the Keep All Account Settings on.....

  • Xerox Phaser 8400 with lion - wrong ink information

    Hi
I have a Xerox Phaer 8400 directly connected to my network via cable. After the upgrade to lion I get always a question mark when I print a document and when I am information about the Maintenance Kit, Wast Tray and ink status that no ink is in the printer but the status of the Maintenace Kit is displayed correct. When I added the printer with the standard, I got the printer name Phaser8400DP (8f:cb:9a) with the type Bonjour. I added the printer via IP (IPP and LPD) as well with the same result and behaviour.
I think, something has changed in the communication between lion and the Phaer 8400. Printer is recogniesed correct with all features and the printer status itself is displayed correct as well (printer deleted and added new). It is annoying to get a question mark and icon notification when I print a document.
I have found no answer in the internet so far. Does anybody has an idea how to fix this problem?
    Thx for your support.

    Hello,
here is the snmp output from the 6200DP.
It appears that the printer reports the toner levels as -3 and the software sees the low level (19) which is indeed not in the range.
But how can I either tell the system
    to ignore the levels
    interpret -3 as "normal"
    Thanks for your help !

  • Phaser 8400 color is off when pring from iMac G5

I've recently taken on printing my company’s catalog in house. I’m using a Xerox Phaser 8400 with an Intel iMac G5 and the colors that its printing are off. For example, when I print a web page, all the linked text on the page prints purple, not blue. If I print to a .pdf the colors are fine on screen. The Phaser allows me to print sample docs from the printer’s front panel and those prints are fine. Anything I print from this computer, the color is wrong. It doesn't matter what program i'm using. iPhoto, Safari, Adobe InDesign, even Word & Excel.
    So far I've...
Downloaded and reinstalled the color profiles from Xerox.
Tried all the different Image Quality settings in the print dialog.
Tried all the different settings in the ColorSync part of the print dialog.
How do I print so that the colors match what is on my screen?

    Hi Justin,
There's more to matching color than just a monitor profile. You need a proper printer profile, too. Best results are obtained with a profile for each paper you're using since the type of paper will affect the color.
But to start at an easy point, are there any other Macs that print color correctly to the Xerox? If so, check to see what monitor and printer profiles they are using. Duplicate those profiles on the Intel iMac. Copy them over from the another Mac if they aren't on the one you're having trouble with. Then set the monitor to use the same profile as the others that are giving you the correct color. Also be sure to choose the correct printer profile during output.
The 8400 can be set up to accurately reproduce any computer monitor (within the limits of the printer's colorants), but it does indeed require expensive hardware and software to do so.

  • Photoshop CS5: error when printing to Xerox Phaser 7750

    Mac 10.6.5
I get the following error when I print directly to my Xerox Phaser 7750 from Photoshop CS5:
    "Error: /Library/Printers/Xerox/Filters/pstophaserps failed"
All the other CS5 apps (plus Photoshop CS4) have no trouble printing.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Something doesn't add up since PS CS4 works ok. What's different about CS5? 64bit?
My guess would be that Photoshop is the only app you use that prints PostScript through the Cocoa drivers, and thus the only one hitting that particular part of the driver software.

  • Pages won't print in color on Xerox Phaser 6110

For some reason, I have to print as pdf, then use preview to print the pdf version if I want the document in color. If I try just going from pages to the phaser, I get a black and white document instead. I've been trying to find a setting in pages that might limit the color, but haven't found it. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

For some reason, I have to print as pdf, then use preview to print the pdf version if I want the document in color. If I try just going from pages to the phaser, I get a black and white document instead. I've been trying to find a setting in pages that might limit the color, but haven't found it.
In principle, if the imports colour photographs and creates colour page geometries in Apple Pages, then these objects will be colour managed to the digital graphic display, the digital graphic printer, and the digital graphic press. The colours will match provided the digital graphic devices have correct ICC colour space profiles and provided the conversions are configured correctly.
A digital graphic device that is capable of colour can be addressed in 1 bit (off/on without tone), grayscale (tone) and colour. How a digital graphic device is addressed cannot be defined by Apple Pages, it is defined at the device driver or at the device interface whether as a colour managed or colour blind command.
Apparently, the Xerox device driver is addressed differently depending on whether Apple Preview is rendering PDF or Apple Pages is rendering. If you can't find any setting in the Xerox device driver to change from grayscale to colour, the simplest solution is simply to save out PDF from Pages and print from Preview probably until OS X 10.6 is out.
To check the settings for the Xerox device driver, one place you might have a look is Print > Printer: (Xerox Phaser), Presets: (check that there is no preset for grayscale), scroll from Copies & Pages down to check ColorSync and also check if any application features and printer features that are able to affect a conversion to grayscale.
    Hope this helps.

  • Xerox Phaser 8860 on Network-How to turn off popup print job confirmations?

I recently upgraded to OS 10.6.4 and as expected I needed to reinstall the drivers for a few peripherals. One of which was the Xerox Phaser 8860 which is on the network. Everything works, but now after each print job prints out a window pops up in the center of the screen notifying me that ::Job### has printed on Xerox Phaser 8860::. It causes no serious problems, but it does knock me out of what ever program I am using. Which can get extremely annoying when I'm drawing and I repeatedly get halted mid (pen/brush) stroke. It stays up on the screen for about a minute and a few times it has remained up. There is an option to close, it simply gets really annoying after the 30th time. Common sense would suggest to not draw while a file is on it's way to the printer, but my work day is a constant flow of drawing, printing, color tests and editing. It's not practical or good for deadlines to stop drawing to wait for a print job to come out and the pop up window to go away.
I tested printing from the other computers, which are PC's using various versions of windows and they all come up with the same pop up window (though theirs come up at the bottom right of the screen). They do not receive confirmation windows from the other printers not on the network.
This suggested to me that this was a setting with the Xerox software. However, I spoke to the technical support for Xerox and they said that the pop up window had nothing to do with their software and claim that it had to be generated by the Mac OS 10.6.4.
I am regularly printing from the following programs:
Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Word, and Excel. The pop out window has acquired while printing files from all of these programs. I doubt that has any relation but I thought I'd add it, just in case.
I would very much like to know how to turn this confirmation notification off in OS 10.6.4. Or if anyone has an thoughts on what software could be the culprit.

In CWIS go to Properties > General > Printer Defaults and disable the Startup page  As for garbage prints, That sounds like a PS error. And they are almost always due to improperly embedded fonts. Have all your users switch the following in their drivers (Picture is the global driver, but the regular driver will have the same option.) Essentially by default the printer uses its own locally stored fonts on the jobs, but when the fonts are misunderstood, or unknown it winds up printing wingdings.

  • HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OS 10.6.8 PRINTING WITH XEROX PHASER.  MacPro crashes when printer warms up. Does anyone have a solution? 6360 DN

I've been using Macs since 1984.  Have been using Xerox Phaser printers for ten years.  But with the last update to OS 10.6.8 last summer, I've had problems with crashing when printing.  My MacPro crashes when printing via ethernet prot with Xerox Phaser 6360DN or when the printer warms up.  Worked fine with OS 10.6.7.  Internet postings suggest this is a common problem for all Mac users with Xerox Phaser printers.  Apple put out an update to 10.6.8 to address the problem.  I downloaded it but it did not solve the problem.  Have tried all the Xerox drivers along with Apple drivers.  Can't solve the problem.  Xerox says it's an Apple problem.  Does anyone KNOW how to solve the problem?

sorry, just saw that i was accidently in the snow leopard section....i reposted under the correct section. here's the link.

  • CS5 on Win-7 to Xerox Phaser 7750 PS outputs 2/page printouts.

I recently upgraded to a new computer running Windows 7, 64 bit.  I have the Adobe CS5 with Acrobat.  When I print to my Xerox Phaser 7750 PS printer from any Adobe program (Even Reader) the output will print as if outputting 2 pages/sheet.  I.E. a letter size (portrait) file will be reduced to fit on half a page, landscape orientated.  If printing a multi-page document in Reader or Acrobat it will print booklet style.
I can override the problem in Reader and Acrobat by printing as an image, but the other products won't allow me to do this (or I can't figure out how!).  I have the most current Xerox driver, and Xerox is telling me it is an Adobe problem since my other PS printers work fine.
I have this problem only with Adobe Programs, and only on this printer.  All other programs I have print correctly to the Xerox, and the Adobe CS5 prints correctly with my other printers.  The Xerox is my only Color printer and I need to fix this problem.  Any help out there?

Did you ever find a solution to this problem as I have just encountered the same problem today?

  • Mac OS 10.6 Print Server slow performance to Xerox Phaser 3600

    Hi,
I have a client who has numberous printers captured on a Mac OS X 10.6 Server with print services running which works fine with every printer except for a Xerox Phaser 3600 (small A4 mono postscript printer) in that print jobs sent to it via the print server take upto 5 minutes to printer. If the client computers print direct then it is fine and very speedy.
Below is some more detail and any help or suggestions with this would be greatly appreciates.
    • Printer server is a MacMini running Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 v1.1
    • Xerox 3600 printer is a small A4 mono postscript printer.
    • Printing direct to printer is instant, via the print server can take up to 5 minutes.
    • The print server has various other printers setup and they are not experiencing the same performance problem.
    • The print server is using the LPD protocol but they have tried the IPP protocol and again it is slow.
    • When they send a job to print it remains in the users local print monitor and the servers print monitor for up to 5 minutes.
    • The Xerox printer is running the latest firmware update.
    • The print server is using a Xerox downloaded driver as opposed to one of Apple OS shipped drivers.
    • Checked Xerox compatibility list and this printer is fully supported in 32bit and 64bit applications.
    • Restarted printer.
    • Test jobs have been small TextEdit plain text tests.
    Thanks in advance
    Anton

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • New Xerox Phaser 6180 and OS 9

I had to replace a Tectronix Phaser and I just got the new one, a Xerox Phaser 6180DN. It is on a LAN at my office (University Medical School) where I use a newer Mac running OS X plus a mixture of older Macs running OS 9 and some PeeCees. I had no problem with OS X in linking to the printer by ethernet, but in OS 9 it does not show up in the chooser using LaserWriter 8. Xerox does not have drivers for this printer under OS 9. Any suggestions?

  • Xerox Phaser 7300dn will not print tabloid

I have a user with an 20" iMac running 10.6.4 and Adobe CS4. In that office they have a Xerox Phaser 7300dn color laser printer. The user cannot print to tabloid paper. Everything prints on 8.5x11 paper regardless of settings. Happens in Illustrator, Photoshop, whatever. There are two older white iMacs on that same printer that are running 10.5.x, and they have no problems printing to tabloid on that same printer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers from Xerox. I've updated the firmware on the printer. All the options show up in the print dialog boxes. This has to be an issue with 10.6 since the other Macs running 10.5 and a PC running Windows XP don't have this problem. Anybody else experience this issue? Any fixes? I'm getting desperate.
    Thanks.

I used to be able to collate just fine on my Laserjet 5000, but no longer.  I, too, found that it made no difference whether I checked the box or not. Is this still another bug in 9.4.5?  And yes, it is highly irritating.

  • Xerox Phaser 3400 PS & Mac OS.10.3.9

I bought my Xerox Phaser 3400 PS late 2002 (Printer Firmware Version: 1.04 01-21-2002) and I've used it with sucsess running Mac OS 9.2.2 on my Power Mac G4 with 768mb RAM installed.
As allways before, the units are connected via a 3C16793-ME OfficeConnect Switch 5 Ethernet-switcher.
I'm now running 10.3.9 and cannot make the Mac and the printer comuticate propperly. New drivers, XeroxPPD_Installerv1.7.1.dmg, has been downloaded and installed.
On the Xerox configuration I'm using AppleTalk and the TCP/IP is set to Static (and I've also tryed DHCP).
I've talked to both Apple Support and Xerox Support and we've used A LOT of time trying to solve the problems.
    1) In SAFARI I type the printers IP adress 10.0.0.45 and I'm able to see and print out a configuration page.
    2) Also I'm able to print out from Apple's web-site (SAFARI).
    3) But if I try to print from MAIL, I get about 60 blank pages...
    4) I can print from TEXTEDIT and WORD if the text to be printed just say «Print test», but it fails to print if I try to print out a page filled with words. In these situations I will need to restart the printer. Somtimes WORD even turns off the «Ready light» on the printer...
I've also tryed to make the Phaser print by using USB; but with same bad luck. Also; I have tryed to connect direct, not via the hub...
Has anyone out there a solutions to the problems?

No, the router is connected by ordinary ethernet cables, not wireless.

  • Can't print over USB to Xerox Phaser 3450 using 10.4.9

I am using Mac OS Tiger 10.4.9 and have a Xerox Phaser 3450 printer connected to my Quicksilver G4 via USB.
When I try and print the job spools and the printer whirrs to life, the panel on the printer changes from Ready to saying Printing PS3, then the job ends. Nothing actually gets printed, the little print centre dialog that pops up in the Dock shows the job go from the queue to the completed jobs tab.
    Any ideas?

. . .Entering the thread in midstream--
What printer driver are you trying to use? I scoured the Xerox site for information on this printer. The manual indicates that it can use either PostScript or PCL6 as a printer language.
For PostScript, Xerox has PPDs for CUPS under the Unix drivers. These are in the form of a tarball. You can install the by using using a Control-click on the file and selecting to open with the BOMArchiveHelper or by using the Terminal. If using the Terminal, you can install the files directly by using the command --
    <pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #000; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tar -C /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj <pathToYourDownloadedFile></pre>
You could also try the Generic PCL6 driver that comes with the Gutenprint/Gimp-Print drivers which are probably already on your computer.
These drivers may not give you all the capabilities that you would have if Xerox updated their USB plug-in, but they should allow you to print. I see nothing in the literature that suggests that you cannot use the PostScript via USB. That is the default/stock interface for the printer.

I'm informed that "The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance."
This is an issue with permissions of the installed driver.
To correct the problem perform the following steps:
    1) Navigate to Applications > Utilities and open a Terminal window.
    2) Type the following command: sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/Printers/Xerox
    3) You will be prompted to enter your password.
