XFCE and KDE Menus on same machine

I'm planning on installing both XFCE and KDE on a laptop and was wondering if there was any way to separate the KDE and XFCE programs in the menu.  For example on KDE when I go to Multimedia under the K Menu I would see K3B and under a subfolder called XFCE or GTK2 or whatever I would see Brasero.  I'd like to do the opposite in XFCE, with the KDE apps in a seperate subfolder.  I seem to remember seeing this on another distro but can't remember what it was.  Is there any way to do this automatically?  Thanks.

As far as KDE goes, right click anywhere in the menu system or on the KDE button, and you can get into the menu editor. From there, you can do anything you want. Of course, when installing new programs, they are going to end up where ever the packager wants them.

  • XFCE and KDE question

Would there be any conflicts if XFCE and KDE were both installed at the same time or would it be wiser to remove KDE before installing XFCE?

You'll probably be fine. Both programs can edit desktop files which can effect the other. I'm not sure how KDE handles mime types though. If it uses the same database, that could cause one to effect the other.

  • Designer 6i and 10g on the same machine?

I have Designer 6i and corresponding repository on my machine.
The problem with 6i I can't save diagramm in HTML format
I believe I can save in HTML format in 10g or other?
Can I install on the same machine 10g designer?
    should I configure new repository?
    TIA

See my update on your earlier question.
As for running 6i and 10g on the same machine, yes you can do it. You just have to install them in separate Oracle Homes, and be careful when you tell them which version of EXP and IMP to use. There is one MAJOR caveat, however. They cannot use the same Designer Repository - 6i client won't talk to a 10g repository and 10g client won't talk to a 6i repository. You can upgrade a 6i repository to 10g with the RAU, but take a backup before you do - the only way to go back is to restore your backup. Besides, I think that if you upgrade to the last supported version of Designer 6i (you should be able to get it from MetaLink) you will get the Publish Diagrams utility.
Frankly, my opinion is that there is only one reason to stay on 6i - if you need to generate and support 6i client/server Oracle Forms. If you don't use Oracle Forms, or if you have moved on to Web Forms with the middle tier Forms Server, I'd recommend an upgrade to Designer 10g and Developer 10g.

  • CS3 Bridge and CS4 on the same machine.

    Hello Everyone,
I have adobe photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS4 on my machine.  Any known issues for running bridge CS3 and CS4 on the same machine?  Some experts at telling me not to use Photoshop CS3 with Bridge CS4, just wondering.  Thanks for you replies.

Bridge is not really a stand alone product, and tuned to work with its current version of PS.  Also, Bridge CS4 has some features changed and/or added.  So if using CS3 Bridge you might have aspects that don't work with PS CS4.
I would keep CS3 on the machine if you don't need the HD space, until you feel you no longer need the older version.  But use them as a pair as intended.  Also, only have one Bridge running at a time.
I did not upgrade to CS4, but from what I have read I see no reason to use Bridge CS3 as the upgrade is faster, less prone to crashes, and has added features.
CS4 PS on the other hand can be tricky if you don't have a newer computer with a good video card.

  • Replace a 2003 (not R2) File Server with a 2012R2 files server and preferably keep the same machine name and IP when finished

I am wanting to replace a 2003 (not R2) File Server with a 2012R2 file server and preferably keep the same machine name and IP when finished.  For the moment I just need some "high level" guidance, little details can be worked out once I know
which direction I will go.  I was considering that DFS might be a way to help get through the process although when finished the 2012R2 Files server will be by itself with no other file server planned at this time.  DFS can stay installed for maybe
future purposes but clearly I wouldn't need the DFS Replication with only one machine.
Here's a few details of the environment....
    1.  DC's are 2012R2 but it is still 2003 DFL because the old 2003 DCs are still present.  But likely they will be gone and the DFL elevated before I start on the File Server project
    2. Nearly all machines in the facility have a shortcut on the "All Users" Desktop that points to the existing old File Server.  Editing or replacing that shortcut would be a major pain,...hence why I want to keep the same machine name at least,
and maybe the same IP if not too much trouble.  This way the existing shortcut would continue to work with the new 2012R2 File Server.  The UNC path represented in that shortcut is also configured into one or more of our major business applications,
futher emphasizing the need to keep the UNC path the same throughout the process.
    3. The facility runs 24/7/365 but is "light" on weekends.  The political environment is such that there is little to no tolerance for any down time at all.
    4. Would DFS (based from the 2012R2 machine) be a good tool to get where I need to go?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi Sharon,
I've done some more reading and have a few new ideas to run past you....
Yes regular DFS wouldn't help and the Namespace would still be different than how it was with just the old server. However I was thinking DFS Replication could replace the purpose of RoboCopy and it would keep the two locations "in sync" until I was ready
to flip over to the new server.  DFS Rep can exist independently of a DFS Namespace, so a Namespace is not even needed. It needs a minimum of 2003R2 for the "later & better" DFS Rep but I believe 2003 can do an "in place" upgrade to 2003R2, so I would upgrade
the old server to 2003R2 first.  As long as the DFS Rep on 2012R2 and 2003R2 will properly interact I think that will work.
Thanks for the reg info on the Shares.  I'm debating if editing that would reg file would really be much better than manually creating the Shares on the new server while the DFS Replication was doing its job.  I'll probably export that Key as a
safety move whether I use it or not.
Once the DFS Rep is fully in sync and the Shares are in place on the new server, I figure I would then:
    1. Remove the DFS Replication Object (optionally remove DFS Services completely)
    2. Rename the old File Server to something else and set it to DHCP
    3. Rename the new File Server to the name I want to use and give it the IP the old server had.
    How does that sound?

  • Infrastructure and forms server into same machine

    Dear friends,
    I am faching strange problem
, I install 9ias(9.0.2.0.1) infrastucture and form server into same machine,
after sucessfull installation it is mention infrastucture will run the port 7777 and form will 7778,
but after just installation it work into these ports but when i restats the system then port of infrastucture change and it is 7779.
now if i run forms the it give internal error 500,
then I stop fist infrastucture http server then http server of form
and again first start infrastucture hhtp server then form http server
now agin infrastructure server port id 7779(insted of 7777)
but now my form work properly.
every day i do this job , but some time this method fails then i have to again install server and have to repeate above mention job .
    pls help me
    With regards
    Siddharth Singh

Mid-tier listens on a lot of ports. On a std install (with both Infra and Mid-tier) Web-cache listens on port 7778 "in front of" httpd for OHS on 7779. So perhaps you forget to start web-cache? (run from BI home: webcachectl)
Perhaps the problem with Forms is related to X Toolkit?

  • Installatioin of BWI and R/3 on same machine.

    Hi,
I installed BWI on a server. If i like to install R/3 on same machine, then do I need to again install Central instance or Just Database instance? When I install BWI, I installed first the central instance and then database instance and now when I am trying to install R/3 its giving me a menu which has Central instance, Database Instance , Dialog instance. Is Central instance different for BWI and R/3? What do we actually mean Central instance. Even though is not advisable to install BWI and R/3 on same machine, but in my case i am trying to do that, so do I need to also install Central instance even though it was installed during BWI installation?
    Thanks.
    Syed.

    Hello sYed,
    How r u ?
You can install BW & R/3 on same system, but u cannot do any extractions like Generic, Co-PA, etc. Also, its not advisible to install both BW & R/3 in a single operating system, so you have to install Windows 2000 & Windows 2003 then install R/3 & BW Respectively.
I think its possible to install in a single operating system, when ever u want to work on R/3 or BW, u have to kill one server and start the other one and so on.
    Hope this helps,
    Best Regards....

  • I want to run IIS and Form Server on same machine

    Dear follows
I have problems , porblems is that i want to run IIS and Form
Server at same machine but i m facing some problems so please
inform me right proceduers to run this services at same machnine
    now i m using Windows NT .
My secone problems is that i want to send emai via oracle
reports , actuall condition is that i have oracle report and i
want to add button and behind this boutton i want to add trigger
to send this report as a emai to client as txt/html format.

There shouldn't be any problem running both forms server and IIS
on the same machine. Just make sure the ports that are used are
different. IIS's default port is 80, so either change this port
number or change it for the Forms server's web listener.
You can send reports to email if you use DESTYPE=MAIL.

  • Is it possible to run VLM and lmtools on the same machine

hi together ... is it possible to run VLM and lmtools on the same machine without any problems?
the running system will be Windows Server 2008 R2 x64! maybe we will install the license server on the virtual server.

    Hi SvenNittmann,
in general, it should be possible to run both tools (VLM and lmtools for FlexNet) on the same machine. But I wouldn't recommend you this way, because NI VLM is also build on top of FlexNet and sometimes you will receive ugly problems with the installation of both tools on the same PC. It is possible to use VLM in a virtual machine without any problems or restrictions. NI provides information about the usage of VLM in a virtual machine, like you can see here:
Volume License Manager on a Virtual Machine - National Instruments
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/5730FDDC97F9157E8625755F00749CFF?OpenDocument
I also use VLM in a virtual machine and I could recommend you the same solution.

  • OK or bad to keep 8 PRO and XII PRO on same machine operable

    x

    Hi Tom,
Acrobat XII Pro has still not release so i assume it's XI Pro you are referring to. It's not advisable to install Acrobat 8 and XI on the same machine.
Adobe Technical Support does not recommend having multiple versions of Acrobat or Adobe Reader installed on the same machine. Acrobat and Adobe Reader have numerous components that have similar functionality and can cause conflicts on a machine. The most prevalent among these conflicts involves the plug-ins for rendering PDF files in the browser, PDFMaker inside of Office Applications, and the Adobe PDF printer.
