What file system format is the iPod formatted with?  FAT32? To check, right->click on your iPod's from under Computer and choose Properties.
Have you tried to reformat it yet to see if that resolves the issue?

I-pod has been reformatted and now shows up in windows as a removable disk drive can not get updater to recognize. any help?

Wow...I never thought there would ever be such a screwy problem like this on such a large scale....has anyone noticed how many similar posts have been posted in the last week or so? Not saying this never happens to anyone--in fact, it's happened to me beofre, but it was simple to fix...but the same problem happening with so many people at about the same time*...I don't know, it's kind of strange...anyway....
Yeah, I'm a Mac/Apple guy to the core, and have been since 7th grade (about 11-12 years now). Yet, I can't help but look at my iPod as if it has self-destructed. I was listening to it (w/ tape adapter, of course) on the way home in the car, then unplugged it for literally five minutes, got into my apartment, plugged it in my dell Latitude, and poof it had been reformatted. So, the moment I plugged it in, its funcionality basically vanished. The 5 R's have been useless thus far, and I can't even reformat using Explorer, because Windows tells me that the 1 GB iPod now has no storage capacity. ***? Strange, strange. Anyhow, sorry for the rambling, but this really confounds and frustrates me. APPLE....HELP US PLEASE!
*Don't get me wrong: I'm not a conspiracy nut; it's just hard to wrap my mind around this right now.

My first MP3 player, I chose Creative Zen 4 gig, I have added an 8 gig sd card the problem I have discovered is that my PC does not list the card as a removable disc as stated in the manual therefore I cannot add files to it.

    Hello NewUser2,
    Welcome to Creative forums!
You still need to put the device in Removable disk mode. Here's how to do it:
In the main menu, select Memory Card.
    Select Removable Disk.
Connect your player to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Your memory card appears as a removable disk under My Computer in Windows Explorer.
Use the drag-and-drop method in Windows Explorer to copy files to and from your memory card.
When you have finished copying files, safely disconnect your player using the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Taskbar.
    Warning!
DO NOT disconnect your player, or attempt to remove the memory card, when files are being transferred. Disconnect the player only when file transfer is complete.
    Notes
When you select Removable Disk, you view the contents of your memory card only, not the contents of your player. Playback stops when you select Removable Disk.

  • IPod Showing Up As Removable Disk Even When Disk Use is Disabled

    Hi there,
I'm having a problem with my iPod and Vista. My iPod is showing up as a removable disk even though I do not have "Enable Disk Use" checked. This is confirmed by the fact that I can disconnect my iPod without having to eject it first.
I've tried checking and unchecking the text box. It works the first time, but when I reconnect the iPod, the disk shows up again.
How can I permanently disable disk use?
Appreciate any help you can give.

Have you tried performing a RESTORE on the iPod when connected to iTunes?

  • My iPod only connects to my computer as Removable Disk (E:)

A few days ago I updated my iPod G5 with itunes and everything was working perfectly and as it was finishing, it said something about not being able to update or something like that. Now, everytime I connect my iPod to my laptop, it just shows a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the taskbar and when I look in "my computer", it shows my iPod as Removable Disk (E:). When I click on the folder, it just freezes up and says, E:/ is not accessible the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable. Can anyone help me out please?? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
Do other devices now have this problem?
Did the iPod stay connected before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Could be a loose antenna connectin

  • Ipod 160GB showing in Windows Vista OS as Removable Disk, not appearing in iTunes (latest version). How can I resolve?, Ipod 160GB showing in Windows Vista OS as Removable Disk, not appearing in iTunes (latest version). How can I resolve?

My Ipod 160GB when disconnected is showing without any files, but no room available. It appears in my 'Computer' screen as 'Removable Disk (though the icon is a little iPod). It does not show up in iTunes at all (I have the latest version).
When I right-click the icon on the 'Computer' screen it does run incredibly slowly. I was doing this to consider if I should try formatting it (only NTSF and exFAT formats were showing) but I wasn't certain if that would be a good idea.
    I have thus far:
    Hard Reset iPod
Verified the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver was installed correctly via Device Manager
Checked the device in 'Computer Management' > 'Disk Management - showing as a RAW file with only format option as exFAT or NTSF
Ran iPod in Diagnostic Boot Mode - IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* - stats revealed 'Error' (did this twice to confirm error). Reset iPod from here.
After this it actually came up in iTunes but said it needed to be restored - ran Restore iPod. Error message said 'iPod cannot be restored. Uknown error occoured (1415).
Tried Solution 1 (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539) - Reregistering the .dll files. Was unable to complete step 11 as the iPod did not appear in iTunes.
Verified that Apple Mobile Device Manager was installed.
Restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service.
Checked for third party conflicts - couldn't find any.
Changed the drive letter and restarted the computer.
Put into disk mode - unsure what that achieves.
Downloaded the HP USB with no luck running the program. I believe that Windows Vista doesn't allow formatting drives to FAT32 at all, and even previous editions of Windows wouldn't allow formatting above 32GB so certainly no suitable for me. If I got hold of a mac computer - could I format on that? Or is there a FAT32 Formatter that works for 160GB?
So I am at a bit of a frustrated loss. If you have any suggestions or know what I should do - I am all ears or eyes as it were. I will be on standby to give you more information if required.
    Thanks,
    Ashley

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Also see these (if you haven't found them already):
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes

  • Blackberry doesnt show as Removable Disk on Windows

    Hi Everyone,
It's my first time to post. Just to give you a background, I recently acquired a BB 8900 (v4.6.1.310 (Platform 4.2.0.127)).
I just want to say that i really love this phone. I probably won't be buying any other phone outside BB. If ever I'm upgrading, I'll just get another BB!
Well, I am encountering a problem whenever I try connecting my BB to my PC at work. To give you guys a background I don't have the DESKTOP manager on my work PC, my friend says it's not necessary to access the MicroSD card especially when I just plan on using it like a flash disk.
But whenever I try connecting it what pops out are windows for me to install a two hard drives (Blackberry and RIM Device). I cancel them both but my BB doesn't show as a removable disk on windows.
I've been reading on the pages and I have the Media Card Support: ON, Mass Media Storage: ON and Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: YES.
Can anyone help me out regarding this matter? I'd like to use my BB as my flashdisk also whenever I'm going out so I can just have one place to store my presentations and spreadsheets.
I have a colleague here that has the same phone yet he seems to be having no problems on his end, he can access his BB like a flash disk drive.
    Anyone's help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    realspenz

Sounds like Windows is behaving perfectly normally by auto detecting your Blackberry when you connect it to the PC,
and just like any other USB device that is connected for the first time, Windows has to instal the drivers for it.
This is not the same as installing the Blackberry Desktop software.
On connecting you say you cancel the Windows message about installing two hard drives -
Have you tried allowing this to run and let Windows instal them ?
If you do you will probably find that the computer will then recognise the Blackberry,
and the memory card in it, and will allow you to access it as you would like.

Please use code tags.  If you don't know how to do this, click the 'BBCode' link on the bottom of the page for instructions (there are all kinds of neat formatting tricks included as well).

after writing an html report on a floppy disk and removing it, labview shows an error message window: disk not present.
My pc is based on asus motherboard. Labview 7 and Windows 2000 sp4 installed.
The error message continue also if i stop the application that generated report on a: .
I've got this problem only on a pc: on other machines i don't have this problem (Labview only continues to access floppy but it doesn't show any window).

    Hi,
I tried your vi: I don't get any error message after removing the disk but LV7 keeps on accessing the drive at regular intervals even if you stop the vi and close it!!! This is not supposed to happen.
The only way to stop it is exit LV7.
If you don't use the file dialog and you wire a full path, you don't get any problem.
I also created a very simple vi that conditionally writes a text file on a: and I got the same behaviour.
This problem occurs only with LV7, I tried the same examples in LV6.1 and everything was fine.
If anybody wants to try I attach this simple example,
    Alberto

  • "Removable Disk" shows up in Windows 7 even when USB Flash drive isn't there

I have a new windoz 7 computer, a couple of new sandisk cruzer 16bg flash drives. I removed the flash drives a couple of times without doing the "eject" thing. I never had a problem with your flashdrives on my xp machines. I know I was a bad boy, I just pulled the usb flash drive out. When I go to my computer folder it shows me my hard drives and its shows 5 Devices with Removable Storage ....one of which is the DVD RW Drive and 4 Removable Disk  which are or were times when I plugged in my usb flash drive. They show 0 bytes, nothing is in any of the "Removable Disk" instances and I cannot remove them. I tried to delete, cut and I tried to eject but the Removable Disk icon stays there. How can I get rid of these safely, I tried rebooting a couple of times, they show up even without any usb devices plugged in. Thanks in advance Scott

I had this same problem.  It turns out to be easy to resolve:Open the Windows 7 "Start" Menu,  on the right shoose computer, in the new window that opens choose System Properties from the choices across the top of the window, now on the left side of the window choose Device Manager.  In Device Manager expand the "Disk Drives" entry.  You should see a listing of your hard disk drives and you'll also see "removable disk drives" with some additional idnetifying information.  Select the offending entry and then right click and select "Uninstall" click "Okay" and the entry will be gone.  Just be sure you're not uninstalling one of your hard disks.  That's all there is to it. To prevent this issue in the future always "eject" the SD drives/sticks before you remove them. I hope this helps.

  • IPod not showing up in Windows or iTunes? Showing up as removable disk :F ?

I have a 5th generation iPod Nano and I have had it for about a year. I tried plugging the iPod into my computer (Windows), but my computer and iTunes do not recognize it. The first few seconds when I do plug in my iPod, I go to My Computer and I see my iPod with my name beside it, but after about 2 seconds, it changes to Removable Disk :F and then it disappears completely after another second. Last night, when I upgraded my iTunes version, the iPod connected fine, but today, my iPod has not been recognized at all. Help please?

  • XP no longer shows up as a startup disk

After upgrading to leopard today, my XP partition no longer shows up as a startup disk.
I had/have my windows partition on it's own drive that was NOT created with bootcamp. I pulled my osx disk from the my mac pro and installed windows on the disk i had in bay 2 using 100% of the disk (ntfs). after installing the bootcamp windows drivers, i reinserted the osx disk and all has been well for the last 4 months,... until the upgrade today that is.
Now, when i go to the 'Startup Disk' preference Windows is no longer an option. the disk still shows up in Finder and I can navigate around the file system.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get it to show up again? I'd really rather not have to reinstall if i can avoid it.
    thx.

I have exactly the same problem (well, maybe).
I have installed MacFUSE and ntfs-3g. I don't know if this is of any relevance, because I don't know if it was working directly before I installed them.
I have my OS X and NTFS volumes on the same physical disk. I also had to install Windows twice because I buggered it up the first time (formatted the partition as FAT32 and ran into a bunch of disk errors).
I also notice that in WinClone I have 2 Untitled Volumes at /dev/disk0s3 and /dev/disk1s1. /dev/disk0s3 seems to be the legit Windows NTFS partition, but I have no idea what /dev/disk1s1 is about. I don't know if it's been there all along or not but perhaps it is confusing matters and stopping the legit Windows volume/installation from being detected...? Should that second volume exist at all? It doesn't exist according to the Disk util.
edit: I used fdisk just to have a look at the two untitled partitions.

I can hold the option key upon startup and manually enter Windows like that, but I'd prefer to be able to restart and boot Windows without having to hold a key.
Apart from not seeing the Windows boot volume in the system prefs pane, Boot Camp (and the rest of Leopard) has been excellent. I am impressed at the level of apple hardware support for windows. It seems to be much better than most native PC hardware.
I am dying for an answer. It's a fairly minor problem in the grand scheme of things, but **** it's frustrating.

  • Icon for Desktop Shows Up as a Generic Icon in the Places Sidebar

Noticed yesterday that the icon for the Desktop showed up as a generic icon in the Places Sidebar. I have tried resetting the PRAM, repaired the Hard Disk and Permissions using the Disk Utility and deleted the com.apple.desktop.plist pref in my user library. I also checked my Admin account I use for troubleshooting and the desktop icon was fine in that account. Not sure what else to do. Not a big deal but just wanted to make sure that it is not a sign of bigger things to come. Maybe the MBP knows I'm thinking of trading it in for a new model, LOL.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

Wow. That's stunning. I don't really know why it works, but it does. Apparently when you paste something on top of the icon in the sidebar, and remove it, it refreshes itself and somehow remembers the original icon?
I deleted something and had several blank white icons in the sidebar, so I removed them and restored by pulling them back on from my home folder. Everything worked except the Desktop. First it was the blank white icon. Then I pulled it from my home folder and it was a plain blue icon with the generic page symbol, such as a standard Documents folder icon. Then I fiddled with it and pulled it over again and it changed to the generic blue desktop icon you see in the home folder. Last I tried your step of just pasting the generic desktop icon over it and undo-ing that paste, and viola!
Many thanks for sharing. I could have forced myself to live with the generic, but it wouldn't have been the same, and not truly satisfactory, as it wasn't back the way I started. Insert applause.
