Xfce icons mixed up?

I've been experimenting with getting my xfce to look better, and tried out a few different icon packages, all installed in the ~/.icons directory like they should be.  After a couple of tries, I noticed that not all of the icons would change-- the terminal icon and thunar icon for example never changed with any of them, nor did the Home folder or trash bin, even though I knew for certain those two had new icons available.  Other folders got the right icon, but not the Home folder on the desktop.
Somehow in all of it, the "power button" on the panel turned into what looks like the AIM (or is it AOL?) running man.  So I removed all the icon directories in ~/.icons, and restarted X going back to the default rodent set.  I think it more or less worked, except I still have the stupid running man instead of the power button.
Anyone ever see this before?  How can I fix it?
Edit:  I tried doing pacman -Sfd xfce4 xfce4-goodies gtk2-themes-collection, but it's still messed up.

Has no one seen this before?  It's got me stumped.  I guess I could go in and change it manually...

my XFCE icon box item on the panel shows all tasks from all workspaces regardless of the option "show applications from all workspaces"
the task list item does that properly
    what could the problem be?

You actually have all applications on one "workspace", it's just divided into several virtual view-ports.
well yes i thought of that since i really use compiz...
but i tried task list item and it works properly even with compiz and virtual ports so that's not an excuse...
Well then, task list takes virtual workspaces into account whereas the IconBox doesn't...
    heh well obviously
but if they already removed the feature from task list and ported the icon only display as a separate plugin they should have implemented the "virtual view-ports awareness" too :\

  • XFCE icon theme confusion

I have a weird problem with my icons and XFCE. Some time ago my gedit icon in the taskbar had gone missing. After a while, I decided to erase my XFCE config and create a new and the icon was properly shown again. But during the time I configurated XFCE, it was again as a missing icon in the xfce taskbar. In the application menu the icon is shown correctly.
Furthermore, Midori shows at the position of the forward button the icon of rhythmbox's next button, but not always, just sometimes, depending on it's mood [Update: No, not depending on it's mood but if it's a shadowed or active button].
I guess my icon theme is somehow corrupted, but removing and reinstalling did not work (using 'gnome'). I also updated my icon cache without any change. If I change to another icon theme, the problem also remains.
    Any suggestions?
[UPDATE] Yeah, I tried to remove my config again, but this time nothing was fixed by that.

Same issue here. Removing ~/.config doesn't help for me though.
It also effects other icons, for instance urvxt - whereas xfce4-terminal displays it correctly (both are using accessories-terminal)

  • XFCE's mixer plugin stops at 90% when using scroll wheel over icon

Yeah, title says it.  By putting the cursor over the icon and using the scroll wheel, the volume goes up to 90%.  But when I open the mixer and drag the master slider, it goes to 100%.  How do I fix this?

Had the same Problem, was really annoying me. Probably a baaad baad bad workaround:
    in src/xfce4-mixer-4.6.0/panel-plugin (ABS / xfce4-mixer)
    changed xfce-volume-button.c, line 204 & 205:
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    to
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.1, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    rebuild, done.
I've been searching for a while for the real problem, but I'm no programmer. Looks as if somewhere someone perhaps startet counting at 1% instead of 0% or something, but I've got no idea where.
(useless EDIT: Seems as if someone already fixed it in the newest version available in ABS since I changed it on my machine. Wait, trying...
EDIT: Nope, still only works up to 90% in current ABS version I think - might have just forgotten to re-extract the source of the panel after update. Redoing the "bad fix" got it to 100% again though.)

  • XFCE icon issues... [solved]

Hello I recently switched from Arch Gnome to Arch XFCE on my laptop due to the catalyst driver not working with the gnome 3 (i don't like the open source driver - it over heats my cpu even with cpu scaling)... Anyway, my panel applet icons will not adjust to my theme, whether it's installed from xfce-look or a default xfce theme. Here's a screenshot to better explain my problem:

Edit /usr/share/themes/NameOfTheme/gtk-2.0/gtkrc and find the section with many lines beginning with class, widget_class or widget. Add the following line
    widget "*Xfce*Panel*" style "panel"
somewhere in that section. The panel style may have a different name, e.g. panel1 or panel2.
I managed to fix several themes with that, hope it will work.

  • Icons mixed up in bookmarks toobar

Sometimes one icon on the booksmarks toolbar is replaced by the icon of another site on the bookmarks toolbar. It seems to happen after I've had both sites open at once in different tabs, but I haven't yet figured out if there's a particular condition that triggers it.
It's only the images that are mixed up; when, for example, the yahoo icon is replaced by some other image, clicking on it still opens the yahoo site.

  • Qtcreator ignores xfce icon theme

I think the title pretty much covers it.  I've gone through the wiki page Uniform Look for QT and GTK Applications and it has a lot of great information for how to get themes without icons working in qt applications, but there doesn't seem to be much about how to get the icon themes over.  I tried using the oxygen, faenza, and elementary icon themes but none of them seem to get picked up.  Also qtconfig seems to have a bit of a mind of its own when it comes to theme selection, and lacks an option for picking an icon theme.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, this issue has been bugging me for weeks!

Well, I came up with a very ugly hack for doing this.  I really hope someone has a better solution.  Basically I figured out that qtcreator is always pulling from the gnome icons, and if it can't do that then it looks like it generates the icons itself.  So...I just renamed the gnome icon folder to something else and made a sym link to the icons I wanted to use instead.  So if for example you wanted to use Faenza-Dark, you would do:
    cd /usr/share/icons
    mv gnome gnome_
    ln -s Faenza-Dark gnome
Of course this is probably going to break as soon as the gnome icons get updated so I can't say I'm too wild about it, but it does give the desired behavior.

  • [Solvd]XFCE mixer panel plugin doesn't get updated when volume changed

XFCE audio mixer panel plugin used to show the correct volume when I change the volume either with my Laptop touchbuttons or keyboard volume buttons.
    1.  To make sure if I am actually changing the volume, I opened alsamixer and tested pressing keys they work fine.
    2.  I even opened properties option from the indicator and set it to "Master"(the one I use) of my speaker, still no luck.
    3. The only problem is the indicator doesnt update when the volume is changed or muted.
But for unknow reason this problem started last week.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Compiz, XFCE, and gtk-window-decorator

I recently caused my system to stop booting by messing with some stuff (yay for editing files and not reading the entire wiki page first!) and I ended up just deciding to do a clean arch install (when your system partition has 50Gb of programs on it, half of which you don't use, its probably time to clean anyway). I decided to use XFCE since that has been running very stably on my netbook for some time (usually around ~14 days of uptime until I forget to recharge the battery and it turns off) in favor of Gnome or KDE since I have been having lots of problems with them and stability (usually 1-2 days of uptime until I have to end up restarting because of a freeze or something)
My one beef with XFCE on my desktop computer compared to my netbook was its lack of eye candy stuff. I feel like I am underusing my computer. So, I decided to try installing compiz on it. I read on the wiki page that using emerald was buggy and so I decided to use gtk-window-decorator for a window decorator. I have a whole bunch of Gnome3 themes in my home directory since previously I had gnome installed and so I was wondering, why can't I seem to change the window theme?
The window theme is stuck in this big blocky mode that doesn't look horrible, but I would sure like to be able to change it. I have gnome-tweak-tool installed, but switching the themes on that doesn't seem to have any effect (I may be switching on the wrong page, however). I like the xfce themes and I would like to be able to use those with compiz, but I just don't see how to do it. All my googling has brought up nothing about actually managing to change the gtk-window-decorator window decoration theme in compiz running in xfce on arch.

    Did you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xfce#Icons

Did you check - and where necessary - try to fix the configuration as described here?

  • [SOLVED] xfce upgrade 4.11 -- 4.12 : error loading libxfce4util.so.6

    Hi guys,
I upgraded from xfce 4.11 (xfce4-*-devel packages) to xfce 4.12 today, but I have the following error with a bunch of different xfce4 apps (including xfdesktop):
    # xfce4-settings-manager
xfce4-settings-manager: error while loading shared libraries: libxfce4util.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I tried downgrading extra/libxfce4util 4.12.1-1 to aur/libxfce4util-devel 4.11.0-1 but then the error says libxfce4util.so.7 cannot be found.
Using ldd I found that the applications depend on both libxfce4util.so.6 and  libxfce4util.so.7
    ldd $(which xfce4-appfinder) | grep -i xfce4
    libxfce4ui-1.so.0 => /usr/lib/libxfce4ui-1.so.0 (0x00007f681fa05000)

  • Getting the Xubuntu XFCE theme on Arch Linux?

I used Xubuntu on my netbook (mainly for convenience and I love the theme that comes with Xubuntu 13.04. Does anyone know if you can download it anywhere for XFCE running on Arch? Thanks.

It's just Greybird (gtk2/3 +xfwm theme) with the elementary-xfce icon theme IIRC.  Search for them on the AUR.

Hi guys, Ihave a problem with iphoto, there seems to be icons mixed in with my photos, ie Skype icons and random pictures i have viewed in the past online.. any ideas how to get rid of these?

    1. Trash them
    2. Restore from a back up made before this happened.

  • Xfce4-power-manager & change icon in Xfce4 panel

    Hello!
I'm trying to change the appearance for the latest xfce4-power-manager (v1.4.1-2). I use elementary Xfce icons. The former xfce4-power-manager was using the correct (simple black & white) elementary icon in the notification area in the Xfce4 panel. With the latest version, where xfce4-power-manager has to be added manually to the panel, it is using some kind of colourful icon.
Is there some way to tell the program to use the elementary icons instead? I've already tried to edit /usr/share/applications/xfce4-power-manager-settings.desktop. But no dice.
    Thanks in advance.

Do you know the location of both, the simple black & white icon and the colourful one?
If you do, you can try the following. Backup the original colourful one and paste a copy of the one you want to use in the same location and with the same name.
Afterwards check if the result is the one you want.
I have myself come across the situation of wanting to change an icon through the .desktop file but in the end it seems that some icons, even in this case maybe?, are hardcoded and can't be changed through a .desktop file.
More than willing for someone to proof me wrong though!
