Xfce Resolution Problems [SOLVED]

I installed Arch on my old box. Xfce won't display 1024x768.
I set GRUB with vga=773 and the console displays in 1024x768, but when I startxfce4 the GUI is in 640x480. I'm tired as hell, so I'll try out suggestions in the morning. Thanks for any help in advance!
EDIT: BTW, I tried setting xorg.conf already and it didn't work.

640 x 480 resolution problem [solved]

I testing Arch. I've got it installed as a vbox guest. I plan (if things go well) to eventually turn it into a live CD, as I can't find one out there now that fully meets my needs.
So far, things have gone pretty smooth, but now I've hit a wall. I got lxde installed (live CD, so keep it light and lean) and it works. The problem is the resolution is stuck at 640 x 480. I can't increase it. xrandr says my max is 640 x 480, which I know isn't true. Obviously installing specific drivers isn't an option as I plan on doing the live CD. Quite a bit of searching turned up several solved, but most of those were physical hardware issues in the end (Puppy does 1600x1050 as a guest, so it's not hardware or vbox) and "it just fixed itself" isn't an answer for me. What am I doing wrong?

Vesa drivers are normally used as a fallback as it is very generic. Use the free or proprietary drivers for your intel/ati/nvidia instead.
Here is a quote from the beginner's guide:
"The vesa driver is a generic mode-setting driver that will work with almost every GPU, but will not provide any 2D or 3D acceleration. If a better driver cannot be found or fails to load, Xorg will fall back to vesa. To install it:"

42 Inch Philips Plasma Resolution Problem

I have tried hooking up my Mini to my 42 inch Philips plasma TV and I am having a problem getting the resolution issues solved. I have after market software that allows me to make resolutions available after configuring them and restarting the computer. Does anyone have the same TV and know what the setup should be? I am currently at 1280x720 and it seems to be ok for vertical, but horizontally things are cutoff the screen. Any help would be much appreciated since this problems seems to have started with the update to 10.5.7.

Hi Hatesand, what settings did you change to make this work? On the mini or on the plasma?
I'm still plodding along with 1920x1080 as nothing seems to make the monitor stay in 1920x1200

Acrobat printing problems (solved)

Hi Folk
I'm getting on well with Arch apart from one problem, I can not print from Acrobat reader, it accepts the command and does precisely nothing, the jobs are appearing in cups but not being printed, I can print from Open Office and test print from cups but no cooperation with acrobat, anyone have any ideas? thanks

I don't know what DE are you using. In my case, I use xfce and when acroread starts with his stupidity I just change the print command to 'xfprint'. That forces acroread to redirect the print job to xfce's printing frontend, and problem solved.
Now, if you're using kde, I guess there is something named 'kdeprint', 'kprint' or similar. For gnome, I've no idea.
I hope this helps.
p.s. Sometimes, cups takes his time to print. When its taking too long I purge cups' temp files and restart the daemon.

Forms 10g R2 - screen resolution problem

Window Resolution problem(W500)

Hi people, i have been using this computer for about 2 years and a half now.
there is a puzzling problem now on my laptop, when ever i open specific files or open up a setup screen it is always messed up as if there is a resolution problem. Heres a example.

XSD Resolution problem - Unable to load Translation schemas

Hi,
I've run into a very strange kind of problem (not to say some are less strange then others). Let me explain the context of the situation.
I've got a BPEL process calling two plsql packages on ORA database, one Java web service running on the same weblogic server and couple of other services (eg. notification services, jdbc select/insert, etc.). There is no problem with the last listed, but definitely something wrong with the web service and the plsql callouts.
When I deploy the BPEL process and execute it, the first two instances always fail. The same happens when I restart the server, the errors are repeated after a certain period as well (for example over night). The process always fails EXACTLY TWICE, before running normally. Every other instance executed after the two initial failures runs WITHOUT the following error.
I mentioned there are two plsql callouts in the process, earlier the first instance failed on the second one and the second instance failed on the first. Now, it mostly fails on the second callout. I've made no significant changes in the code. Perhaps the strangest thing about this is that it fails when invoking the plsql package but the error concerns xsd definitions of the web service that plays no role at this stage.
All my services are correctly deployed, I deleted all interface definitions from MDS repository and redeployed SOA bundle again before installing each service.
I think it has something to do with generated xsd definitions by the java web service (it's the http://localhost:8001/S50040PrenosSouboruBS/PrenosSouboruBSSOAP11BindingPort?xsd=1 and http://localhost:8001/S50040PrenosSouboruBS/PrenosSouboruBSSOAP11BindingPort?xsd=2 from following stack trace), but I can't figure out what exactly is wrong with them.
Anybody come accross a similar error? Thanks for tips, I've run out of ideas.

I had similar issue, when i deployed composite using Jdeveloper. The problem was with my adf-config.xml pointing to dev server and all my references in my composite.xml referring to test server.
I changed property of 'oracle.mds.persistence.stores.db.DBMetadataStore' in adf-config.xml to test server. After adf-config.xml change in Jdev my compilation went smooth.
Note: If above changes doesn't work, try restarting JDeveloper, sometimes the changes in adf-config.xml is not getting effect immediately.

EHP1 Upgarde Monitor screen resolution problem in a support message

Hi Experts,
We have recently upgraded our Solution manager to EHP1, iam facing a screen resolution problem with 15 inch monitors.
Our key users have 15 inch monitors to their system and when they try to reply a support message under transaction data-> Overview tab -> reply it is showing only one line for them , due to which they are unable to enter the complete data in it.
How ever We have found that this does not occur with 17 inc monitors as the required screen resoution 1280* 1024 is possible due to bigger size of the monitor.
can any one suggest how to make the overview tab visible completely with small resolution monitors.

Resolution Problems from iPhoto to iMovie HD

I am creating a slideshow of pics for a friend's wedding. I imported the shots into iMovie to add text, edit the music, transitions, etc. When I "Preview" the photos they look great but when I drag them to the project pane they look awful - fuzzy, pixellated, whatever you want to call it. It looks bad in iMovie and in iDVD and when I burned it I couldn't believe how awful it was on my TV. Am I missing something obvious? HELP! The wedding is next week!

Xorg nvidia resolution problems with KDE

I just installed Arch 2008.04-RC last night. I configured xorg.conf using nvidia with the screen resolution set to "1440x900" which worked in both the X Windows and KDE 3.5.9.
I was trying to get xine working with Amarok. At one point, I deleted ~/.xine and xinirtc to force itself to reset. I then rebooted at which point I noticed the resolution set only at "640x400" in KDE. I checked the Display Settings and that was the maximum resolution I could choose. I then switched to the vesa drivers which allowed a maximum resolution of "1024x768".
I removed xorg and nvidia and reinstalled. I can no longer get a resolution of "1440x900" resolution for my Viewsonic VA1926v flat screen monitor. I read on the xorg log that

I am at a loss at trying to fix this one. Something similar happened when I was running Gentoo on this same desktop back in April. I also have the same low resolution problem when using Sabayon.
Any help here would be much appreciated :-)

I thought these frequencies were a bit low too. My manual said there were the frequencies. I checked online and it said the same. I need to do more research on it.
I did manage to get my 1440x900 resolution back using the open source nv drivers. I had to do the same with Gentoo and Linux Mint in the past. Everytime I used the nvidia drivers, my monitor returns to the 640x400 resolution and I noticed the only way to avoid it was to use nv. I do not play games online or use Compiz so it does not bother me.

DB Adapter JCA-12563, XSD Resolution problem

Hi,
I am using Oracle SOA Suit, 11.1.1.4 and I am getting error in my db adapter.
Below is the SOA adapter logs.
This is intermittent issue, and occurs If i test the process for some time. After reeploying the service, same does not happen for some time but reoccurs after some good amount of testing.
Can anybody help me with this issue?

There is a retry logic in a composite and after 2 or 3 retries this error does not comes, Its an intermittent issue.
Is anyone able to find the resolution for this issue?.

the missing thing in your example is the fact, that if only one value is selected, the parameter has exact this value like BOSTON. If you choose more than one value, the parameter includes the *'*, so that it looks like *'BOSTON','NEW YORK'*. So you need to check in the package, if there's a *,* in the parameter or not. If yes there's more than one value, if not it's only one value or it's null.

HD receiver/amp connected to non-HD TV - resolution problems?

My 10 year old receiver/amp (non-HD of course) went belly up! My current TV is not HD & I'm not ready to spend the money for an HDTV monitor at this time.
If I buy a HD receiver/amp will I have resolution problems with the current TV?

WiFi connection problem solved

My intel iMac and MBA had no problem but iPods 3g and 5g did. I had an old Netgear router connected and sitting next to my Airport Express. On a hunch I diconnected the Netgear and created a guest network to replace the one on the Netgear. PROBLEM SOLVED!
Evidently our iPods and boarder's iPhone had problems sorting out the signals and finding the right addresses. Moving the AE to a higher and slightly more central position also helped.

Same here on a Vodafone PocketWiFi 2.
Tried NetworkManager, wicd, wifi-menu but all have the same issue.
I recently installed Aptosid on another machine and it has the same problem... It also has kernel version 3.9.
All the live CDs I've tried work, even an Arch CD from May works, though a current install does not.
I have no problems connecting to another (wpa2 enterprise) network yet can't on this 3G modem.
I'm hoping this isn't a permanent issue and perhaps an update very soon will fix this.
It seems the only way to fix this for now is to use an old version of Linux. I'm currently running a virtual machine only for the purpose of Internet sharing, very annoying.
