Xfce with Xscreensaver Problem, Errors and Transparent Loading.

Hi I'm new to Arch but I'm absolutely amazed how configurable the system is and with the amount of info on the wikis! Unfortunately I'm stuck on an Xscreensaver issue in my Xfce install.
The first problem I'm having is how it runs; in my expert technical terms;
It loads, the screen goes black but then the desktop shows again and I get a sort of semi-transparent screensaver? So I can see conky and the wallpaper as well as the (glmatrix) screensaver running?
Second thing is when I logout I see the following messages;
xscreensaver 12:46:10 Can't open display: :0
12:46:10 running as carbon/users (1000/100)
I tried to be careful when reading the wiki for Xscreensaver and others when I was installing the system so I can't think of any obvious reason this is happening. Any help you can give would be really appreciated!! I've added my ".xscreensaver" config file below incase it's really obvious (sorry).

Update:
I logged in and executed;
xscreensaver &
and got:
xscreensaver: 15:39:26: already running on display :0.0 (window 0x800001)
So I guess I've confirmed that the logout errors seem to be a result of X shutting down when I logout, back to tty1 and that xscreensaver is running OK after startx. Now I just need to work out why it doesn't seem to properly "override" the desktop and runs with something like 50% transparency ...

Unknown "source"?  Do you mean unknown "error" followed by a number?

Follow the instructions in the article.  When you connect your phone again, you may have to press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then continue pressing the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode.

I've had my MacBook Air for not even a year and about 2 months ago i tried opening my Iphoto, but it continually sits with a blank screen and the loading wheel just spins. Someone help

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    TD

Installed iOS 7.04 in my iPhone 5 and back camera and flashlight still inop. Any others out there with this problem still and any ideal of when there will be a fix for it?

I'm using iOS 7.04 on my iPhone and basically can't use it. The screen is going crazy. I type and special characters show up. I have to hit send more than once (it grays out, then hit again) then it sends. I type words in text or email and it backspaces and deletes my entire message. I tap an application and it starts wiggling to delete. I've reboot several times. I'm looking at restoring, but that is a pain in the arse (it's my work phone). I'm nervous it will not restore properly.
I have iOS 7.03 on iPad and have no issues.

How do i put the startupitems back to this folder or beter yet get into the computer to fix this.
    Please please help!!!

Reinstall OS X, either from disc or a recovery partition. You don't mention which version of OS X you're running so I don't know which it will be.

  • JavaFX application deployment problem - Error: Unable to load resource

I am developing my first JavaFX application. When I install the jnlp and jar files on my web server I have no problems using the application from either my development machine (Windows XP) or my test machines (Windows XP & Mac OS X). However, one person evaluating the application reports getting the following error:
Error: Unable to load resource: http://dl.javafx.com/1.3/javafx-rt-windows-i586__V1.3.0_b412.jar
What are the possible causes of this problem and how can they be resolved?

If being able to redistribute the JavaFX runtime is important to you, make sure you let Oracle know. Personally I'd prefer to host it myself or bundle it with an application installer. Being forced to rely on dl.javafx.com isn't acceptable for me.

Immediately after installation, my will have lots of citrical errors and many times, the monitor just went blank and PC restart.
    What I have done:
Updated BIOS to 1.6. THE SAME PROBLEM.
I suspect that it was the RAM, so using only 1x 512MB RAM, that system was Stable. (For Both my RAM – thus, RAM was good)
That makes me suspect that the MOBO. So I place Both the RAM from DIMM Slot 1 & 3 to Slot 2 & 4. The System was Stable.
Back to Slot 1 & 3, THE SAME PROBLEM.
To me, confirmed MOBO faulty and went to change the MOBO.
With the NEW MOBO (same model), THE SAME PROBLEM.
Now I am running my System with RAM in Slot 2 & 4 for 1 week and the System is Stable.
Can someone advise me what the problem? What if in the future I need to add more RAM?
    Thanks

  • Sub-par Safari (Pages won't load, 404 errors, and paritally loaded pages)

    Hey,
I just upgraded to OS X 10.4.5 (from 10.2.8) and it's a wonderful change of pace! I can't believe I waited this long! I have only one complaint...Safari is TERRIBLE. I have found that when it browses it only partially loads pages, never loads images, all adds "cannot be found - 404 error code (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), and then sometimes the desired pages have different apperances, or won't load at all (again a 404 error code). On a few occasions it has even opened the same page repetedly! I go to apple.com, and it loads. Then I go to zdnet.com, and it loads apple.com (though it displays Zdnet on the title bar and the web address!)
Can anyone help me out here. I'd love to us the RSS feeds...but with all these bugs I can't even get through a session of use without becoming completely frustrated.
    Thanks!
    iMac G4 (17inch)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Have you tried using masking Safari as another browser to see if the pages the machine is visiting have been instructed not to show content if the browser is not one expected?
If you go to the Debug menu and select user agent, you can disguise Safari as another borwser. Also, from the Debug menu, you can use the Open page with menu to select the alternative browser you would like to use to open the pages.
Alternatively, you might contact the owners of the site(s). Also, you might go to the Safari menu and Report Bugs to Apple.

  • Publish with iWeb06 produces errors and is very slow

I have recently upgraded to OS 10.5 but am still running iWeb06. I attempted to publish a new photo page last week and got error messages saying there was a problem with a photo on an already published page. I reloaded that photo and tried again. This happened a few times but eventually the new page appeared to be published OK even though an error was still reported.
I have now tried to publish another new page but am getting similar errors - and each time I 'correct' an image reported as an error that page shows red in the site list. The little blue circle that appears during Publish also hardly moves. The new page I am now trying to publish has not appeared in .Mac.
If I upgrade to iWeb08 could this solve the problem? Or will upgrading change the URLs of my existing pages?

    rodinchesh wrote:
...will upgrading change the URLs of my existing pages?
    No.
If I upgrade to iWeb08 could this solve the problem?
It may or may not. There are some threads on this forum similar to yours about problems linking from a thumbnail to a page containing the larger picture. This problem doesn't appear on the iWeb '08 forum.
One thing to consider: Within eight months, iWeb '09 will probably be released. If you don't upgrade to iWeb '08 before then, you'll be two versions behind the then current version. And if you eventually try to upgrade from iWeb '06 to iWeb '09, how will that go? How much testing will that have received at Apple? ...Probably not nearly as much as upgrading from iWeb '08 ~ the most likely scenario, thus meriting heavy testing.
In general, it's advantageous to maintain your system on current software versions. There is much complex integration between the iLife apps, .Mac and OS X, and it's the current versions which get the most attention ~ both reporting problems and fixing them. You'll also get better help from others who are more likely to also be on those same current versions.
And if you do decide to upgrade, make sure you back up everything beforehand. Then, if you have problems you can restore iWeb '06 and its Domain file, who's default location is:
    +~/Library/Application Support/iWeb+
(the tilde (~) represents your home directory)
...from the backup to its usual location on your Mac's internal HD.
One option for backups (of several) is to use the free SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then you can recover individual files (such as iWeb's Domain file) or, if your internal HD fails, you can re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.
And this free SMARTReporter may give you an early warning of impending hard drive failure:
