Xfce4 fonts not antialised

I got the xorg-fonts-100dpi package installed along with xfce4 etc etc ...
The fonts aren't antialiased!  In the control panel, the antialised font checkbox is checked   Don't really get what's going on.  Any ideas on what to do?

Solved it, didn't have truetype fonts on my system, ha!
But firefox is still ugly

  • Some fonts not showing up on Mac

I produced an e-book on typography for maps. It was produced on a PC and converted to pdf using the PowerPoint 2007 Save As PDF option. My customers who are on PCs have not had any trouble viewing all the fonts shown in the e-book exactly as they should be. However, two of my Mac customers (perhaps more, I do not know) are having black boxes show up where the letters should be. This only happens for certain fonts. For example, AUdimat (OpenType) is not showing up but Gentium Plus (OpenType) is. The fonts are embedded in the file. Any ideas? Thank you so much for any help you can provide.
It may even be that the fonts are showing up in regular mode (the customers have Acrobat Pro, I believe) but not when it prints or is in Preview or QuickLook. It is a mystery to me.

I originally thought it was a Mac versus PC issue but now (re: previous comment) it looks to be that the Save as PDF option did not save all the fonts. Some of the fonts saved were OpenType some of the fonts not saved were OpenType. So it doesn't appear to be an OpenType issue. If I were to purchase Acrobat Standard or Pro would I be able to embed all the fonts? Maybe it is because I am using PowerPoint 2007's Save as PDF that is the problem but I am just not sure. I tried signing up for Adobe CreatePDF but then found out that my file size is too big for that program (it's 12 mb whereas the file size limit for Create PDF is 10 mb). Thanks again for reading...

  • Fonts not embedding when "save as" pdf

Version: Photoshop CS4 64 bit on Windows Vista 64.
Issue: fonts not getting embedded during conversion to pdf.
I am attempting to save files for commercial printing in Photoshop pdf format (file-save as-pdf). In the past, using previous versions of Photoshop, the fonts have always been embedded in the pdf document when I choose the "Press Quality" pdf preset. However, now, even when I simplify my Photoshop source file down to the most basic level (one non-background layer with one line of type using a font I KNOW has successfully embedded before) the resulting pdf reports NO embedded fonts (no fonts at all, actually) and when sized up a great deal in Acrobat Pro shows pixelation as though the type was converted to a graphic. If I open the resulting pdf file in Photoshop the text is still editable though...
I have Photoshop files that were built using a previous version of Photoshop (CS2). When I open these in Photoshop CS4 and save as pdf the fonts are embedded just as they always were so the problem lies not with the CS4 version of Photoshop itself but rather with NEW files created by it. It seems that any NEW files I create using Photoshop CS4 wil not embed their fonts when saved as pdfs.
    Help !!?!! (example file attached)

Good points. To test that out I tried substituting different non-commercial fonts (Arial, Tahoma, Times, etc.) and then saving as a pdf. No matter what fonts I try they don't get embedded. So that would seem to rule out the idea that Photoshop CS4 is now restricting the embedding of fonts to non-commercial ones.
I have poured through the save-as-pdf options in GREAT detail - have tried many various options and don't see any settings that have either made a difference or seem relevant. According to Adobe documentation anytime you select "Press Quality" as the preset the fonts should automatically be embedded.
The really odd thing is, if I take a psd file that was originally created using a previous version of Photoshop, delete all the layers and then create one single line type layer so that it is identical in every way to my CS4 test file, any font I select gets embedded when I convert that file to pdf - same exact pdf preset - all file settings the same - everything! - except that it was originally created using a previous Photoshop version.
    Does that make ANY sense??

  • File, Send link doesn't open a new email. Using Firefox 11.0. Outlook 2010 is the Mailto default and W7 default email program. On the About:config page network.protocol-handler.external.mailto is set to regular font (not bold) "default Boolean true".

File, Send link doesn’t open a new email. Running Firefox 11.0. Outlook 2010 is the Mailto default and the W7 default email program. On the About:config page, network.protocol-handler.external.mailto is set to regular font (not bold) “default Boolean true”.

I assume you have tried toggling the setting in Firefox between Outlook and, say, Gmail:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box, type or paste '''mailto''' and pause for the list to filter.
Change the setting and OK to save it, then return to the dialog, change back, and OK again.
You also might want to toggle the setting at the OS level between Microsoft Outlook and the native Windows Mail client in a similar fashion. In Windows XP you could use IE's Options dialog, Programs tab, for this, but I'm not sure in Windows 7.
Since one possibility is a problem in your Firefox settings (including the possibility of interfering add-ons), and another is a problem at the Windows level (e.g., Registry settings), it would be useful to try to identify which one it is. One quick way to distinguish is to create a new Firefox profile. It will start up with all factory settings. You can switch back to your existing profile after testing.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
After closing Firefox, start up again in the Profile Manager as described in this article: [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles Managing profiles].
With the new profile, can Firefox successfully create a message in Outlook?

  • When creating PDF from web page why does text appears as strange font not readable?

I am using Acrobat Standard, ver. 9.5.5.  Frequently if I save a web page on either Firefox or Internet Explorer by printing to my Adobe PDF driver, much of the text is rendered in a strange font rather than in the font that appears on the web page.  The only work-around I have found is to print the document to a printer and then scan the printed page to create a PDF.  Is there a solution to this problem?

The OS may be an issue so what are you using Win7, Win8, XP, MAC, or other? In printing, what job settings are you using? When you open the PDF, check the properties (ctrl-D) to see if the fonts are embedded or not. The problem is likely related to the font not being embedded. The embedding may be a license issue for the font. Acrobat will only embed fonts that are properly licensed. You might try the Print or Press job settings that are a bit better to embedding all fonts.

  • "Font not found on the system" for work logo font

I just started a new job and every single AI file I work with in illustrator is using VTypewriterRoyal - the company logo.
It automatically defaults to Myriad with the msg:
"Font not found on the system; missing font has been substituted."
I've spent way too much time changing it back from Myriad once in AI + scouring the web for answers. Haven't come up with any.
No one else at work seems to have this problem. I've tried installing and uninstalling the font.
Redownloading as OTF instead of TTF.
Nothing is working, so I really really hope someone can help me since I'm going to be considered slow if I keep having to take the time to change every ******* file I open.
Adobe support is seemingly overly complicated and this issue is making me crazy!!!
Someone please help. I'm on a brand new iMac 27" using 10.6.8....
    Thanks.

    check your spelling/spacing
    I see
    VTypewriter Royal
    and

They are different names...one has a space, the other does not
They must match exactly to work correctly

  • [Workaround available] Some ttc fonts not shown in Libreoffice

This is a prolonged (for more than 1 years maybe) issue for me: My LibreOffice installation does not recognize any ttc fonts. (And I cannot bear this anymore for some reason)
ttc fonts are merely a comination of two or more ttf fonts. I have installed both ttf and ttc fonts in /usr/share/fonts/TTF directory either by copying them into the directory and run `fc-cache -fv` or by installing those font packages in repositories. But LibreOffice can only recognize those ttf fonts, not ttc ones.
    * I have tried both "libreoffice-writer" and "libreoffice-fresh" packages from official repositories, with "~/.config/libreoffice" deleted.
    * I have no "~/.font*" or "~/.confg/fontconfig" directory.
    * Those ttc fonts I installed CAN be recognized in any other "Select font" dialog.
    * I tried Abiword and it CAN also recognized those ttc fonts.
    * Not a single ttc font, but all the ttc fonts cannot be recognized by LibreOffice.
    Any ideas?
    UPDATE:
I found out that some of the ttc fonts can actually be recognized by LibreOffice, others, however, can not.
    $ find /usr/share/fonts -name *.ttc
    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/msgothic.ttc # NO
    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/mingliub.ttc # NO
    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/msjh.ttc # NO
    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/batang.ttc # YES
    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/ukai.ttc # YES

    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/msjhbd.ttc # NO
    /usr/share/fonts/wenquanyi/wqy-microhei/wqy-microhei.ttc # YES
Here is all the ttc fonts I have installed. "ukai.ttc" is from ttf-arphic-ukai package, and "wqy-microhei.ttc" is from wqy-microhei package. All the others come from aur/ttf-ms-win8. I copied these fonts from a Windows 8.1 installation media and the integrity check is passed.
Only five of them (those with "YES" marks) are listed in LibreOffice. The others are not.
    I am very confused.
    UPDATE 2:
It seems that this is a prolonged bug in LibreOffice. I modified the PKGBUILD file of aur/ttf-ms-win8, spliting those ttc files into ttf files.

You just added them to 'ttcs_to_extract', don't you?
Yes, here is the modified part:
Nice, that's what I wrote that function for! I will update package based on your findings soon.
Wow! I love your function, too!
However, please note, that spliting those CJK fonts will result in very large package sizes. A typical Chinese ttc font is about ~35 MiB and contains 2 - 4 font weights (styles), so there will be 2 - 4 ttf files, which have a total size of ~150 MiB or more.
    49M ttf-ms-win8-6.3.9600.17050-1-any.pkg.tar

    161M ttf-ms-win8-zh_cn-6.3.9600.17050-1-any.pkg.tar
    254M ttf-ms-win8-zh_tw-6.3.9600.17050-1-any.pkg.tar
These are the packages my modified PKGBUILD generated. You can see how large they are compared to those ttc versions. And the only reason to split ttcs is that LibreOffice has a bug recognizing them. (Other programs recognize ttcs well)

  • Fonts not showing up in InDesign CC 64bit

I find it extremely difficult to believe that Adobe have not found a solution to the issue of installed fonts not showing up in InDesign. If anybody has found a solution that does not include the "rewriting" of font types. Please assist. We specialize in Brand Management, and it becomes extremely challenging when Adobe InDesign does not show up the installed font in order to ensure Brand Management :/

    POSSIBLE SOLUTION
I'm not sure if this is the cause for anyone else, but I had the same symptoms--almost no fonts showing up in InDesigns Font dropdown options.
THE SOLUTION:  The new version of ID has two "font filter toggle button". They are the "Apply Favorite Filter", and "Apply Typekit Filter". It seem that in my install, the Typekit filter was on by default, which makes it so that the Font list only displays those fonts that originate from Typekit, as opposed to the thousand you have on your hard drive.
Click the toggle to turn off the filter and --zowee! All your fonts come right back.
I hope this helps some of you. It would also explain why people on both Macs and Windows boxes are having this issue.

  • Fonts Not Compatible with Windows 8

We've had some problems with fonts not working in Windows 8. Are all OTF available via Adobe Type campatible? The files we're having problems with have the extension of .PFB. They are visble via c:Windows/Fonts but do not work in our applications.

Windows 8 (as well as Windows Vista and Windows 7) should be fully compatible with all Adobe OTF (OpenType) fonts as well as Type 1 fonts.
Note that Type 1 fonts require two files per font, the .PFB file with the fonts' outlines and the .PFM file with the fonts' metrics. Such fonts are installed by right-clicking the .PFM file and selecting Install. Note that the .PFB file must be in the same directory as the .PFM file for the installation to work.
Assuming that you have the fonts already installed, they should work with all classic Windows applications. However the Type 1 fonts are not recognized by Windows WPF applications as well as those explicility written for Windows 8's  new so-called modern application interface. Applications such as Visio have not supported Type 1 fonts in years. We also know that a bug in Windows causes Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10 to hang if they call for a font that has the same name as a Type 1 font you have installed.
Perhaps you provide more information about what fonts you have installed with what applications that don't work or are not recognized?
