Xfce4-panel with window decoration

Hi,
I have updated my system- pacman -Syu recently. Unfortunately xfce4-panel is running in window now:
Console shows

I read somewhere it's caused by glib. So i've built glib2-git and glib2-newest from aur. It didn't change anything.
Anyone have suggestions how to fix it? Thanks in advance

Panels with window grouping function

Hi everybody,
it seems that there are only few panels out there able to group multiple windows of the same application, like in any of the common OS's/DE's.
Instead of
xterm cmd1
xterm cmd2
xterm cmd3
xterm (3)
clicking on it opens the above list
I think I've tried every available (lightweight) panel out there by now. (pypanel,tint2, etc.) The only one supporting that feature is the xfce4 panel so far, but I'd prefer not to use it because I like the look and light ressource usage of pypanel the most.
Ist there something I missed that you'd recommend?
I'd also like to suggest a modern pypanel fork with said feature, if a coder gets to read this. I wonder why noone did that before. If you open tons of windows (at least) pypanel won't even let you scroll through them anymore..

Control Panel with Windows 7

When I click the options button on Photo Stream, the following two options come up-
My Photo Stream
Shared Photo Streams
Where did the Upload Option go? It worked before

Windows 7 is compatible with the iCloud control panel for Windows. It supports Vista SP2 and above. You can download it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455. This guide explains how to sync your PC with iCloud: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html.
However, if you are running iOS 4 on your phone you must first update it as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972. After doing so, you can create your iCloud account by going to Settings>iCloud on your phone and signing in with your Apple ID. Once the account is created, you can then sign into the account on the iCloud control panel for Windows.

Xfce4-panel's window buttons problems

I am using xfce4,everything is OK.but the panel's plugin window buttons can't works well ,when I used after a while.
normally,when I click the actual window button,the window will be minsize,when I click the button again, it will be back.
but now,I click the button,the window will be minsize ,and it can not be back,however I click it.I must use alt+tab to switch the window.
is it a bug?

Xfce4-panel and window placement

How can I get XFCE4 to not place any windows that would be hidden under the panel? My panel extends all the way from the left to the right. I have my workspace margin bottom at 100. Everytime I start up XChat it places itself under the panel... Any ideas?

I hated that thing....seems that xfwm4 doesn't respect but xftaskbar4...its the only thing it won't cover it....what i did is dumping the panel....its not that useful anyway...u can launch apps using the desktop menu...the only thing i miss is "show desktop" button.

[SOLVED] xfce4-panel: Window buttons w/ Compiz

Hi, I've successfully done the seemingly daunting task of getting Compiz to work with XFCE. Everything appears to be set up, got my keyboard shortcuts in order, etc., however I don't like how the xfce4-panel's Window Buttons behave when running with Compiz. I have specifically set it to show only windows visible on the current desktop (or as Compiz calls it, viewports), but it looks like it still shows all windows from all viewports, as if like it treats all of them as one big desktop. I know this is a problem with xfce4-panel still thinking that it's communicating with xfwm, but I do like to resolve this annoying pet peeve. Are there any workarounds/fixes/patches for this that could help? Thanks in advance.

I made Compiz autostart with XFCE using the first method with the Fusion icon as described in Compiz's Arch Wiki article. Perhaps it is related to Xfwm and Compiz running together? I'll try the other methods and see if the problem persists.
EDIT: I fixed it, I just followed the solution on this thread and everything works perfectly now. Seems like Googling with the right keywords will almost always point me to the solution.

Xfce4-panel and gnome

So I know have Arch installed with gnome and compiz, but I have come into 2 annoyances that I hope you will be able to help me out with.
1. How do I use the compiz feature which gives you the expose of the windows open not the workstations.
2. Can I use xfce4 panel with gnome and if so how and how do I get it to start up when gnome is started?

Not sue I've correctly understood your problems but here goes:
1) You wanna see all the windows open on all workspaces, kinda like Mac OS X's Exposé (http://www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/expose.html). What you do not want is to see the workspaces layout, as in Compiz's Expo plugin (http://wiki.compiz.org/Plugins/Expo). Or are you referring to something completely different? (Workstations???) If my assumption is correct: I think your best bet is Compiz's Ring switcher plugin - but try out the various plugins under window management to see which one works for you.
2) Yes, although right now, some people are having problems getting it to work (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=111890) If it's already installed, just try running it with 'xfce4-panel' and setup a panel. Once that's done, go to System | Preferences | Startup Applications, click add, and enter 'xfce4-panel' under name and command.

[SOLVED] Strange KDE window decorations

updated my system and all KDE apps have now problems with window decorations. Before the update:

I tested with Oxygen, Air-Oxygen... But, if I use Kwin everything seems fine?!
My system:

Try setting the Qt graphics system to "Raster" (system settings->desktop effects->advanced->Qt graphics system).

XFCE4 + AIGLX + Compiz/Beryl [no windows decorator]

Hi,
I'm a newbie in archlinux and xfce, so probably this is a newbish question.
I run AIGLX over a ati with radeon opensource drivers in xfce4.
It runs well , I activated composite on xfce and see semi-transparents panel and so on.
Today I'm trying to install and run compiz or beryl but without success.
I installed compiz-core, beryl-core, emerald, something else.
try to run compiz with replace but no windows borders appear (even if when I try Alt+Tab there is the typical compiz effect ).
So I decided to switch beryl... Try to run beryl-manager and change in beryl or compiz but without success.
I don't see windows border s:\.
I checked the default depth is 24, i tried to put:
beryl-manager &
emerald &
startxfce4
in .xinitrc but the windows decorator doesn't appear.
Any idea?

Okay I solved it.
This is a simple mini guide to installa compiz on xfce4 with ati open source drivers:
1) install ati open source drivers (look the wiki)
2) in xorg.conf (I have a ati radeon 9000pro):

5) Open terminal and run fusion-icon. Change (Select Window Manager) to compiz.

Xfce4-svn default theme - What's that window decoration?!

I installed xfce4-svn (and xfce4-svn-extra) the other day, and i would just fell in love with the default gray window decorations! They are so clean and beautiful. I want to dress my new shiny gnome 2.16 desktop with it...
So... can anyone tell me what the decorations is called, and is there a gnome eqvivalent?

you can open browsers new window using jdic...
unfortunately Desktop.browse() doesnt allow to do that, but we can do that another way:

Can't share photos using shared Photo Stream with iCloud Control Panel for Windows

BACKSTORY: My friend took pictures of my family. I want to see the pictures he took. We live about 2.5 hours apart by car. Gas prices are too high for me to just drive down with an external hard drive to get the pictures and I might as well throw my money out the window if I were to ship him a hard drive and he ship it back. SO. I ask him if he would share photos with me and he quickly agreed. He added me to a Photo Stream he has. ok cool. I recieve the invitation email just fine but this is the error I get when I click on the link:

Follow these steps to join a shared photo stream
1.Make sure you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 6 or a Mac running OS X 10.8.2 withiPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later installed.

3. Open the invitation email on an updated device and tap the Join this Photo Stream button.
WHAT I NEED:
How can I view shared photo streams using iCloud Windows control panel 2.1.2.0? How can I work around this error message? I don't own any of these products that apple wants me to own in order to view these photos! I don't have the cash to go out and purchase them. What can I do to get "my" photos? Do I have to be signed into my friends apple id to see the shared photos?
What I've tried:
I already have the icloud control panel installed and updated to the latest version.
I'm signed into iCloud on the control panel. (no apple id password issues)
I have photo stream checked.
I have my photo stream checked
I have shared photo stream checked.
I have tried copying and pasting the link into the address bars of Safari for Windows, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox respectively and pressing enter to load. all present the same error message.
I visited iCloud.com to see if there was anywhere to access the shared photo stream there... No option exisits
Checked my photo stream folder in windows explorer. it's completely empty. I haven't put any of my own photos there so nothings missing per se... I just can't see my friends shared photos.
MY SET UP:
Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
4gb of RAM
iCloud control panel version 2.1.2.0
I don't own any version of Outlook, (if that matters. I doubt that it matters at all in this case.)
I don't have any iOS Devices or a mac capable of 10.8. My MacBook is stuck at 10.6.8. It's a late mid 2008 just before the aluminum unibody computers came out. If I had only waited another month... sigh. Murphy's Law is alive and well.

It sounds like you art trying to access a Shared Photo Stream, but you do not have one of the devices to enable your Apple ID as an iCloud account. The following article provides information on how Shared Photo Streams work:

The article states that for privately Shared Photo Streams to work, the recipient will not only have to have an Apple ID, but it will have to be an iCloud account:
Friends and family with iCloud accounts can view your photos in the Photos app on any device using iOS 6 or later; on a Mac in iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later; on a Windows PC with Windows Vista or later and iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later installed; or on a second generation or later Apple TV with software version 5.1 or later installed. They can also view your photos on the web if you enable Public Website in the settings or options for your Shared Photo Stream.
Since you do not have an iCloud account and just and Apple ID, your friend can share the photo stream as a public website so that you can view it, as stated in the same article:
Can I share with people who don't have an iCloud account?
Yes. If you enable Public Website in the settings or options for your shared photo stream your photos will be published to a website that anyone can view in an up-to-date web browser.
To be able to change an Apple ID to an iCloud account, you would need an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later or a Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later as stated in the following article:

Problem with Office 2007 whenever I install the iCloud Control Panel for Windows

Sadly I have a Win7 laptop as my work hack and am using Office 2007. Outside of work I use iCloud to sync calenders between various iOS/OS X devices however whenever I install the iCloud Control Panel for Windows Plugin my email no longer loads. Outlook starts fine and just sits there with an empty inbox waiting for mail to load. I can't even open the iCloud Panel from within Control Panel either to set preferences!
Unistalling the iCloud plug-in resolves this but I really want to sync my iCloud calender with Outlook and can't see any other way to do it, plus it worked before and then just stopped.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I tired everything that was suggested in the forum. Tried IE and firefox to no avail. When I tried computers in stores both worked. A friend of mine who has the 32 bit setup got it to work. Several folks have stated it is the compatability issue with 64 bit. As a last resort, I loaded safari on my home computer, and yep, it works. Go figure, apple product.

HT1349 I have icloud on my pc with windows vista. Recently, upon startup I receive an error that says applephotostream.exe has stopped working. Windows will close this problem . . . any suggestions. I tried to download the control panel again. no luck

No window decoration with Compiz using gtk-window-decorator

At least one check had to be skipped:

Other considerations:
"Window decorations", "Resize windows" and "Move windows" are checked in ccsm for user and root.
"gtk-window-decorator --replace" is set at the command field in "Window decorations" options.
My kernel version is 2.6.35-ARCH, and the video driver is ATI Catalyst 10.12 with Xorg 1.9.
Everytime I use compiz-manager, Gnome crashes.

That's not an option, I don't want to sacrifice video performance for a few effects.
Also, shouldn't be that way, why a distribution like ArchLinux, one of the best, has this kind of problems with Drivers.

[SOLVED] Buttons are missing in the titlebar with gtk-window-decorator

Hi, everyone.
Recently, I'd tried compiz as WM with gnome 3 in fallback mode. All work quiet good, but there is one thing, that slightly discourages me. I use gtk-window-decorator for frames and titlebar and the results are strange. Title bar is drawn with squared left and rounded right corners. Moreover, no buttons are shown on it. "Menu" and "Minimize" buttons are here, but invisible (they are working and corresponding tooltips are shown when I hover mouse over their position); "Maximize" and "Close" buttons are absent. All this buttons are turned on in metacity properties.
When I turn off metacity theme support for gtk-window-decorator, all buttons are here, but decorator in this mode is quiet dumb...
So, have you any suggestions on how to get those buttons back?

I'm having this problem under Ubuntu, but not with my Compiz (also 0.9.4) setup with GNOME 3 on Arch. I switched to Emerald on my Ubuntu install as a temporary workaround.
Thinking about it, I think I still had the gnome-desktop2 package installed when I built compiz-core, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Optional GNOME support is omitted in compiz-core if you upgraded to GNOME 3, because gnome-window-settings-2.0 (from the GNOME 2 gnome-control-center package I think) and gnome-desktop-2.0 are absent.
