XFCE4 plug-in

Please,
I have add the XFCE4 battery plug-in with pacman.
No errors occur, but where can I find the this package?
I don't find it and the battery monitor for my laptop is very important.
Thanks in advance.
Ciao.
Luca.

If you restart xfce4 it should appear as an option when you right-click/add new item on the taskbar

  • Problem with xfce4-session.

Hello, I'm not sure whether I'm posting in the correct section of the forums but anyway, here's the problem, after upgrading the system xfce started crashing randomly (It definitely crashes when I try to suspend first time, then it does it correctly). I took a look in Xorg and fglrx log files, they didn't contain any errors. However, dmesg listed a segfault of xfce4-session in libglib, is there any solution for that problem or I just have to wait until the upgrade. Also, I have and AMD E-450 APU, and a proprietary catalyst driver from catalyst-stable. Here is the output from dmesg (the segfault message is in the end):

Yes, it keeps happening even with the default kernel when I try to shut down/suspend the computer (Alt-F4 key combination). I've read on some russian forum that it's the problem in recently upgraded glib2 (as they think), however downgrade didn't help. I'll try to check whether xfce4-session is to blame.
EDIT: It's definitely not xfce4-session, I tried previous version. Also, while running downgrade I saw that there is a newer version of glib2 in ARM, which is much more unstable, so I'm using 2.36.1-1.

  • [Solved]Cannot startx on fresh install with xfce4 and nvidia-304xx-lts

I just installed Arch base onto my system with my Nvidia GTS 250 Graphics card, however I am unable to start a x session after installing xfce4 and nvidia-304xx-lts followed by the command nvidia-xconfig and reboot.  When I try to issue startxfce4 I get an error pointing to /var/log/Xorg.0.log as follows

The first code block contains my Xorg.0.log however I just tryed modprove nvidia and recieved FATAL: Module nvidia not found. which I discovered was solved by someone here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=961852 however when I tryed to do a pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils I get a unresolved confilict with nvidia-304xx-utils which after trying to remove with pacman -Rs shows dependencies with cario, Im not sure how far back I should start removing things to solve this conflict or how to go abouts solving it

I did some more looking and found I could force the uninstall of nvidia-304xx-lts with pacman -Rdds nvidia-304xx-lts and after revisiting the Nvidia page on the wiki for the dozenth time I started thinking maybe I needed nvidia-304xx oposed to the lts release as google as kindly pointed out lts is long term support and maybe my kernel was not lts and thus conflicting.  This turned out to be the case, after removing the ofending lts version of the driver, replacing with the correct nvidia-304xx , another nvidia-xconfig and reboot followed by modprobe nvida and startxfce4 my wounderfull xfce is now running as I type this messsage in firefox.  Thank you for you help, as you asking about the modprobe output caused the chain of events leading to the success.

  • Xfce4-power-manager and laptop-mode-tools + backlight problems.

    Cross posted from here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=127992
I don't know which forum it belongs to, so maybe a mod can close the one in the wrong forum.
Out of curiosity, do these two tools conflict with each other? There seems to be some features that do the same thing, ie harddrive spin down time, but I'm not sure if these two will try to kill each other trying to configure the same power settings. If they do conflict, how could I go about disabling the conflicting parts (on either)? laptop-mode-tools claims it needs acpid "for ACPI support", however, acpid seems to be grabbing the standby event and throwing the laptop in standby despite the standby button bound to do nothing in xfce-power-manager. If I take out acpid, does that mean laptop-mode will no longer detect acpi events such as connecting/disconnecting AC power and thus not change modes when its plugged in?
Another problem I've had after installing xfce4-power-manager is that when I use the brightness hotkeys the backlight gets stuck and starts flashing, locking up the system until I force shutdown. However, I can use the brightness plugin without trouble at all. What's causing the power manager to screw up setting the brightness since it clearly seems to work otherwise.

It is easier to close this one and move the other thread over here. Just continue there.
BTW better use the Report button when you want to have a thread of yours moved to another forum. That way it is guaranteed a mod will see this in time. And you never need to cross post.

  • [SOLVED] xfce4-powermanager-svn/kdemod-powermanager!

Hello dear Archers! - Sorry for my bad English!
    I have some problem with Arch x86_64 - 2.6.28-ARCH + xfce4-svn on a Toshiba laptop (dual core/4 gb ram/video intel GMA):
    1. Xfce4-powermanager-svn wich don't change display brightness/change cpufreq policy when I plug/unplug AC cable.
Same problem with kdemod4+powerdevil and gnome-powermanager.
    I have installed acpid; cpufrequtils; laptop-mode-tools; pm-utils -
    In rc.conf i have: MODULES=(acpi-cpufreq cpufreq_ondemand cpufreq_powersave cpufreq_userspace etc) DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal laptop-mode wicd gdm)
    I can.t modprobe toshiba_acpi modules
FATAL: Error inserting toshiba_acpi (/lib/modules/2.6.28-ARCH/kernel/drivers/acpi/toshiba_acpi.ko): No such device
    -Xfce4-powermanager-svn is notify me about power state/change: charging/discharging/fully charged etc., kdemod-powermanager doesn't.
    2. When I "suspend", I got a black screen, but I don't know how to wake up again my laptop.

I taught if I go in suspend to ram mode, my laptop will wake up in same mode without turning of/restart.
    Correct
Actualy I don't know how suspend to ram act.
The current state is saved to your RAM, when you wake up your system that state will come up again. What is Suspend to Ram
When I suspend my system screen goes black (as if it is powered of) and the powerbutton blinks. When I push the powerbutton again, my system wakes up and returns to the state before the suspend. I don't know this for sure, but in my opinion this is general for all systems.

  • Preferred package naming conventions for plug-ins?

Every combination seems to be in use already...
    VIM plug-ins are vim-plugin_name
    XFCE plug-ins are xfce4-plugin_name-plugin
    GIMP plug-ins are (mostly) gimp-plugin-plugin_name
I plan on making some plug-in packages for a application what dose not currently have any available. So as the topic says what's preferred package naming convention? I personally like the GIMP format best but just figured I'd ask first (should really be in the guidelines IMO).

Ok well I guess I'll use the third option for now them.
While we're talking about naming conventions I was just searching for the python cairo library noticed binding library's could do with some guidance to...
    cairo-perl
    pycairo
    ruby-rcairo
IMO language-library_name would be a nice guideline.

  • Watch for joystick unplug/re-plug with BASH

I'm having a little trouble with what I think should be a very simple BASH script. It could be a logic error, but I really don't know.
First, here is the problem I am trying to solve:
On this particular PC, I am using Boxee as the main interface with openbox-session. I currently do not have a suitable wireless input to control this, so I have a basic 6-button Microsoft Sidewinder gamepad plugged in. I'm using rejoystick to map the buttons to the proper keys to control Boxee (and also the volume via xbindkeys). However, if the gamepad ever gets unplugged, and I plug it back in, the bindings no longer work. To get them working again, I have to sigkill rejoystick (for some reason, sigterm doesn't do it), and re-execute "rejoystick -d".
This script seems to work when I run it in a console. To test it, I have "rejoystick -d" running, I unplug the gamepad, and I plug it back in, and the button mappings are working.
However, when I let the script run in the background for a few minutes, and I perform the same test, the button mappings do not work.
    ~/.scripts/rejoystick.sh
    #!/bin/sh
if ls /dev/input/js0 # run an initial check to see if js0 is plugged in and set the PLUGGED variable
    then
    PLUGGED=true
    else
    PLUGGED=false
    fi
    while true
    do
    sleep 2
    if ls /dev/input/js0
    then
if $PLUGGED # this is more like, if it was plugged in during the previous cycle of the loop
    then
    PLUGGED=true
    else
    killall --signal 9 rejoystick & sleep 2 && rejoystick -d
    PLUGGED=true
    fi
    else
    PLUGGED=false
    fi
    done
Notice that "killall --signal 9 rejoystick & sleep 2 && rejoystick -d" only gets ran once the joystick has been unplugged and gets plugged back in
Here are the last few lines of my ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh:
~/.scripts/display.sh & # this script is a simple "xset -dmps"
    xfce4-volumed & # for volume change notification
    xbindkeys & # I have F7 and F8 bound to "amixer -c 0 set Master 1-" and "amixer -c 0 set Master 1+"
    ~/.fehbg &
    ~/.scripts/rejoystick.sh & # described above
~/.scripts/boxee.sh & disown # simple script to re-open Boxee if someone exits or crashes it
So maybe there's something wrong with the script, or the way I'm running it in the background, or maybe there's just another way to solve the problem... I must be doing something wrong.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Smokerz,
Your links tell me that at least we know we are probably looking in the right direction. Apple's documentation for Mirror Doors (the very last G4 built before the G5s rolled out) is poor. The PMU was nowhere even close to any of the diagrams and it was actually labeled "PMU" when we decided to look anywhere on the motherboard.
Still this G4 won't boot (unless I unplug and replug) even with a completely new hard drive. I ran the tech tools diagnostic I got from AppleCare when I first purchased the box. I have a 4:00 (PST) at an Apple store today.
I've been planning and very close to purchasing a Mac Book Pro 17" system. Perhaps this G4 doesn't like the thought of being replaced. It happened with my last system.
Anyway I hope they can fix this computer. But my theory stands, Leopard fried my G4 system. Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Xfce4-panel (Internal plugins need the "X-XFCE-Module-Path")

    Hi!
Is this just me having done something wrong, Is this still not fixed or do I have to copy some files over the old versions in ~/ to make a fix work?
A whole while ago I searched and found that Ubuntu bug 322654 so I thought: "oh, I guess Ubuntu fixed that a while ago, no need to confuse anyone here about it now..." - is this the same thing? Is it fixed in Arch? Am I doing it wrong? Should I have submitted something like that as Arch bug? Should I still? (Where do Babies come from? And how to I make easy money by purchasing the rights to sell an assorted range of great products to local customers in my spare time now?)
Uhm, yeah, too many questions. So...: "Uhm what?"

  • [SOLVED] XFCE 4 mouse stops working, hot plugging brings it

I've been running XFCE4 for about 3 months now on this laptop without problem. About 3 weeks ago the mouse suddenly stopped working. Being USB I tried hot plugging it and that fixed it. But the issue kept happening with more frequency. I'm on a laptop that is in a docking station at work. I moved the mouse from the docking station port to the laptop port to make it easier to hot plug. About a week ago it locked and would not return on a hot plug. I tried plugging into the docking station and that fixed it. But, it happened again and moving between the laptop or docking station usb ports made no difference. I had to drop out of XFCE to fix it.
Switching to console one I did start noticing some thunar-volman error indicating "thunar-volman unsupported usb input device type." I followed some instructions about --ck-launch and this is my line in .xinitrc:
    exec startxfce4 --with-ck-launch
I see a lot of issues with USB storage devices but I've yet to find anything about mouse or input issues in my searches (of course now that I make this post I am sure there will be lots readily avaiable). Since I am in a docking station and the laptop is closed I don't believe this has had an impact on the touchpad.
When not in a docking station I typically use Fluxbox. I do not see an issue in Fluxbox so I suspect that it must have something to do with XFCE4.
I'm soliciting any thoughts at what else I can be looking at to fix this problem.
Note, I have a co-worker who is using Fedora and Gnome 3. He's been experiencing similar problems, and those started about 2 weeks before mine. I do keep my system up to date checking for upgrades at least once a week.

It seems what is in the Thunar wiki is at odds with what is in the Xfce4 wiki with regards to starting Xfce4 from .xinitrc:
    thunar wiki wrote:exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch <your wm>
    xfce4 wiki wrote:exec startxfce4 --with-ck-launch
To be fair the Thunar wiki does say to see the entry for your WM/DE.
According to the Xfce4 wiki dbus-launch is now handled by the inclusion of the xinitrc.d code if you copy the default /etc/skel/.xinitrc file to begin with.
I switched over to using fluxbox this morning to see if the problem would occur. I managed to get through until 2 P.M. until the problem occurred. I thought I saw some hesitancy prior a bit throughout the morning as if the mouse was not registering the move because of the surface it was on but it did not stop.
When the mouse stopped functioning there was nothing I could see in the logs and, since I was not running Thunar or XFCE4, there was no Thunar message on console one. When the problem did start it seemed to happen three times within a few minutes too.
I guess it is something I will have to keep digging into. Maybe I will try a new mouse.
    To answer your question:
    thunar 1.4.0-2
    thunar-archive-plugin 0.3.0-2
    thunar-media-tags-plugin 0.2.0-2
    thunar-volman 0.8.0-1
Interestingly I just had it happen again and when I switched over to Console One I saw this:
QDBusConnection: Session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
But this message does not come up each time the mouse is lost, so I am not sure it is related. Furthermore, just the act of switching to the console and back revived the mouse.
Thanks for you help, it is appreciated.

  • First release of new DPL Assistant, an IDE plug-in

We are pleased to announce the first version of a new component. "DPL
Assistant" is an IDE plug-in that is intended to help developers use,
and learn to use, the Direct Persistence Layer of Oracle Berkeley DB
Java Edition. The DPL Assistant is initially provided as an Eclipse
    plug-in.
This first version of the plug-in performs validation of DPL
annotations in Java source code. Each time you save changes from the
Java source code editor, the validator analyzes annotations (@Entity,
@Persistent, etc.) and reports any errors or warnings that it can
detect, in a similar way to how the IDE reports Java compilation
    errors.
Of course there are many more things that the DPL Assistant could do.
We are requesting your feedback. Please see the Possible Future
Enhancements section at the end of this message and send us your
thoughts by replying to this forum thread.
    Installation
You can install the DPL Assistant using the Eclipse update manager.
Start by adding our update site to your configuration:
http://download.oracle.com/berkeley-db/eclipse/The DPL Assistant was developed on Eclipse version 3.3, and has been
tested with both 3.3 and 3.4. It of course requires at least Java 1.5
(since it works with Java annotations).
    Usage
Once installed, the DPL Assistant may be enabled on a per-Java-project
basis. From the Project Explorer, right-click on the name of a Java
project, and choose Properties from the pop-up menu. In the
Properties dialog, choose the "DPL Assistant" page, and turn on the
    "Use DPL Assistant" check-box.
Now you can create a Java source file and type in some Java code,
using DPL annotations. Whenever you save your changes in the Java
source code editor, the validation tool checks the code, and adds
error/warning markers for any problems that it finds.
If you have your Eclipse workspace set up to build automatically, you
only need to save your changes. (See the Project -> Build
Automatically menu item.) Otherwise you need to do an explicit Build
    to run the validator.
When the tool reports a problem, you should be able to see a marker in
the margin on the left-hand side of the editor, and if you show the
Eclipse "Problems" view you should see it there too. Also, a few --
but not all -- of the problem types also appear as squiggly underlines
    in the source code.
As a simple example, if you were to type in (and Save) the following
    code:
        @Entity public class A {
            String foo;
}you should see an error marker, complaining that "Entity class lacks a
    primary key".
    Known Issues
There is one significant known issue: if you have multiple Java
projects in your Eclipse workspace, with entity or persistent classes
from one project referring to classes in another project, then
sometimes DPL Assistant can get confused. In such a case, it may fail
to notice changes in one project that ought to cause a refresh of the
validation for classes in another project, resulting in the retention
of stale results from a previous validation.
If this happens, a simple workaround is to manually request a clean
build of the Java project (from the menu bar: Project -> Clean ...).
    Possible Future Enhancements
At this point these are only some ideas, and do not represent any sort
of commitment or definite plan. We would especially like to get
opinions and feedback from the community. What features do you think
    would be useful?
    * the DPL Assistant is initially provided as an Eclipse plug-in, but
we could add support for other IDE's, such as NetBeans or
JDeveloper. Again, this depends on the level of interest from the
community. Please let us know what would be useful to you.
    * instead of merely complaining about errors, in many cases it could
fix the code automatically. Sometimes there are several possible
fixes, depending on the developer's intent. These could be
presented to the user in a multiple-choice pop-up menu.
    * "content assist": instead of waiting until an error has been made,
it is sometimes possible to help the user get it right the first
time. In the same way that the IDE helps in writing Java
expressions (e.g., presenting a multiple-choice list of known
methods, given an object reference of a known class), it could
present a list of valid completions during typing of annotations.
    * wizards: instead of having to type entity classes by hand, a wizard
could lead you through the process of defining the desired fields,
and then generate the basic Java source code automatically.
By analyzing an application's overall schema, a wizard might also
help generate code for a test harness. Or, by comparing the current
schema to a previous schema extracted from an old database
environment, it might help generate conversion code ("mutations").
    * ultimately, it would be sweet to be able to render an abstract
graphical "picture" (like a UML diagram) from an existing schema,
and even (conversely) to support interactive drawing of such a
diagram from which entity and persistent classes could then be
    generated automatically.

  • When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.

    Problem:
When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.
Any help that you can provide in helping my iPhone accurately sync with iPhoto and iTunes will be greatly appreciated.
    Symptoms:
    1)   Sync:  It’s not completing the sync.  Below, I’ve provided all of my settings from the iTunes Summary tab so that you might tell me if I’ve selected any incorrect options.  I prefer to sync the “old school” way – by connecting to the computer – as opposed to syncing over the cloud. Perhaps this is what’s causing the problem? Here is a list of the steps displayed in the iTunes window as the sync progresses:
waiting for sync to start (step 1 of 7)
backing up (step 2 of 7)
preparing to sync (step 3 of 7)
determining apps to sync (step 4 of 7)
preparing apps to sync (step 5 of 7)
importing photos (step 6 of 7)
waiting for changes to be applied (step 7 of 7)
syncing apps / copying 1 of 4 (App name) (step 7 of 7)
    canceling sync
    apple icon
    2)   Photos: I've selected only certain of my iPhoto albums to sync to my iPhone.  All of the albums are correct/complete in iPhoto.  All of the albums are listed on my iPhone, both before and after the sync, but the albums are empty (no actual photos) before and after the sync. Perhaps this is tied to the fact that the sync isn’t completing, but because “importing photos” is one of the steps that the incomplete sync displays, I don’t know.
    3)   Apps: When I launch iTunes and click on the Apps folder under the Library listing, then click on the Updates tab, iTunes searches for any Apps needing to be updated and provides a list.  If I click on Update All, the Apps are successfully updated in iTunes.  But, when I plug in my iPhone so that the updates will transfer to the apps on my iPhone, the updates don’t transfer to the apps on my iPhone and those apps still reflect that they need updating on the iPhone.
    Other Potential Pertinent Info:
The flash memory hard drive on my MacBook Air recently died (perhaps a month or two ago).  Apple had emailed me about a known issue and literally the next day, my MacBook Air crashed.  I installed a new flash memory drive and re-installed everything from a backup off of an external hard drive.  Everything seems to be working fine; it recreated accurately all of my software and data, including iPhoto and iTunes, the pictures and songs (respectively) for which are stored on that hard drive, as opposed to being on the flash memory in the MacBook Air itself.  However, I don’t recall if the start of the sync problem described herein started happening at the same time that I replaced the flash memory drive.  All I know is that the computer is working perfectly in all respects and that even as the sync is failing, it at least says that it’s doing the right things and looking in the right places (e.g., the list of albums on my iPhone matches the list of albums in iTunes, etc.).
    Settings/Status:
    MacBook Air
    OSX v. 10.9
    iPhoto ’11 v. 9.5 (902.7)
    iPhone iOS 7.0.4
    iTunes v. 11.1.3 (8)
    Summary Tab
    Backups (This Computer)
    Options
Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
    Photos Tab
Sync Photos from iPhoto (429 Photos)
Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include (no Events)
    Albums – 9 are selected

You need to download iTunes on your computer. iOS 6 requires the latest version of iTunes which is 10.7.

  • XFCE4 & Preferred Applications; Mail reader 'claws mail' wont open

Configuring my XFCE4 setup I wanted to set Claws Mail as my standard mail client, such that when I open links in my browser pointing to mail addresses (mailto:[email protected]) that specified mail clilent automatically opens and lets me type my mail right away.
Now... that doesn't work. First Sylpheed Claws was set as my Mail Reader (apparently installing claws mails leads to two entries in the /usr/bin, one for Claws Mail and one for Sylpheed Claws). I switched to Claws Mail, and... it doesnt work.
So, what is there to do about this issue? Any workarounds?
I am using Epiphany as my browser, if that's relevant.
Ah, I also wanted to track this problem down by opening Epiphany in the terminal and see what happens (error messages that is). But it won't open in the shell. I start it, it runs, but there is nothing printed in the prompt (if I close the terminal again, epiphany stays open). Can I force it to run inside the shell?

Although the post is quite old -- I have the same problems using awesome window manager, epiphany browser and claws-mail.
If someone still uses Epiphany with webkit see
    http://www.mail-archive.com/epiphany-li … 03090.html
    For epiphany 2.30 I tried
    $ mkdir -p ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto
    $ gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto/command -t string 'claws-mail --compose %s'
    $ gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto/enabled -t bool true
But it won't work ;-( Has anyone ideas?

  • I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.
