XFCE4's terminal doesn't keep transparency w/ normal user [solved]

... but it can as a root user.  I can set it to something after I launch it, but after I close it and reopen it, it's 0% transparent again.  It doesn't do this when I run sudo Terminal, so I imagine it has something to do with file permissions somewhere.  Maybe I even saved the settings as sudo'd root at one point in time and set the config file permanently (as far as a normal user is cocerned), but since the file is now owned by root, I can't access it?  I don't know the file regardless
Any thoughts?

And owned by you? I usually find it inadviseable to sudo anything that automatically writes config files. Even Vim gives me this problem sometimes (with .viminfo).

  • My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist.

My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist. But it still tracking plays from my iPhone and syncing them.
I've tried to repair it with setup file. Nothing's changed.
Can you help me with that?
NOTE: Now I tried disabling the crossfade feature and it worked, started to count again. But I like crossfade, I don't want to keep it off.

I think I got this figured out. The playcount does update, but not how the previous iPod models update their playcount. Instead of immediately updating the playcount right after you finish the song like the older iPod models, iPod Touch keeps the updates in memory. The next time you connect to iTunes it'll sync those playcounts in memory to the actual songs itself, effectively updating the playcount of the songs only after connecting to iTunes. I have set my syncing manually. That's why after connecting to iTunes, my playcounts are updated. BUT it doesn't solve the mystery of my Smart Playlist. Even though in iTunes, the correct songs are listed, in the iPod Touch, it shows the old playlist.
Don't you just hate that? It was working fine before on non-iPod touch models. Now we have to live with this new bug. I just hope when they release software 2.0 it fixes these bugs and that they *give it for free!* People shouldn't be charged on something they should have gotten as a support!

  • Terminal doesn't login

    Hello,
I will write in a non-very correct english (I am italian) and I want to offer you my bigger thanks for the attention.
I would want to use a certain phisyc-simulator that i found on the web (wich format is .exe), and so i've tried to get Wine, a free program that make you able to open .exe on OSX (in my case 10.5.8). Following the instruction for Wine's installation, I had to run a certain ./file but the wine installation wrote to me (in the terminal window) that this operation (the installation) can't be completed with the root user, but have to follow the same instruction with a secondary user.
So, i've tried by first to do the same installation's step in the Guest user (the one in wich you can't save changes by logging out) but the terminal stayed empty for several minutes. I thought that the problem could be the use of the Guest user, so i've come back to the administrator one and i've created a secondary user (with no administrator "power") , but the terminal doesn't work neither here.
Now, the terminal is still not working even with the ADMINISTRATOR user.
    Can someone help me?
    p.s.: i've some experiences with the terminal, by the need of compile and execute in fortran; it's not new;
i've already searched online a way to solve this problem (for example i tried to see the Console's messages, and i tried to remove the file                             com.app.Terminal.preferences (or something like that) while logged white the secondary user (but not the Guest one))

Thank you BobHarris you are very nice.
-I've tried to delete the come.apple.Terminal.plist in the admin. account   -----> doesn't work  [does it exists in each accounts or is it just one for all?]
              -iTerm2 doesn't work
-Installing Onyx and browsing to find the hidden files you told me ( .profile , .bash_login   etc...etc..) THE FINDER GAVE UP WORK!!!
Even by cmd+rightclick on finder icon to click on re-open (traslated by italian "riapri") i had the error message 101800 or something like that.
I solved the problem by switching off the Mac with the button... Once turned-on again the Mac ( it was a moment full of pain ), all worked fine.
After had verified that the computer didn't had big problems after the trouble with the finder, i continued to search the hidden files.
They don't exist in my Mac but LUCKILY i had the impression that execute the login file in   /usr/bin     could be the solution: it worked!!!!!!!
I had this idea because of that the problem was just the login at the terminal....  A terminal window opened quickly and asked me with wich account I wanted to login... LUCKILY i wrote the good account_name and password and all gone fine!!! (the terminal works again)
    So,
thanks to seventy one for the link http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ (i think install Wine will not be a problem now)
    thanks to BobHarris too

  • MPEG Streamclip doesn't keep the original timecodes

I have a a ton of ProRes 4444-files that I want to re-encode to ProRes 422 LT for offline editing (we have limited space on our XSAN at the moment, that's why we use 422 LT instead of the 4444's).
I did this convertion in MPEG streamclip as it encoded quite a bit faster than Compressor does with the same files. And time was of the essence. But the resulting files does not have the same timecode as the original ones. They all begin at zero hours. I've googled the heck out of this but can't find anyone with the same problem. And there does not seem to be a preference to keep the timecode tracks in the export window.
Anyone know anything about this. If it doesn't keep the timecodes the same as the source files their useless for the offline-online workflow.
    Cheers!

This is what the MEDIA MANAGER is for. Recompresses the footage, keeps ALL the metadata.

  • Ipod audio doesn't keep up with video! help!

ok. ive got a 60 gig. ipod with a imtoo file converter. almost every time i convert, the file's audio doesn't keep up with the video. for example, at the end of the movie, the audio keeps playing! help plz.

"I think the best one to use is called videora."
Maybe you should first visit "Videora's" Website and read the Bug list...Things that are not correct":
    Known Bugs
    Audio/Video sync
Problem - Output files can be out-of-sync. While no set pattern has been established, it seems to be more frequent with input files of 23.976 fps, non-DVD rips, and WMV/MPG filetypes.
Workaround solutions - Try the custom option '-async 1'. If the disconnect gradually increases over time, setting 29.97 fps sometimes gets rid of the problem regardless of the input fps. You can also use AviSynth to assume the FPS and have the audio sync to that. If it's a sudden disconnect, check your VOB Cell settings in DVD Decrypter settings per this thread. Otherwise, test with an AviSynth script per the DaProphecy's method in the FAQ. For non-DVD files, PSPVideo 9 may be a good short-term solution until the converter stabilizes some more or try something like AviDemux.
Audio track not getting picked up
Problem - The IFO stream rip is fine, but the converted file has no sound. The debug info showed to audio track getting picked up. The most obvious case with this is the Madagascar DVD.
Workaround solution ideas - Test with an AviSynth script per the DaProphecy's method in the FAQ (untested). Use a different DVD ripper.

  • TS2034 video doesn't keep up with sound

I have downloaded videos from my i phone onto my i mac.  The sound is coming through good, but the video itself is choppy and doesn't keep up with the sound.. Any ideas?

Your issue is similar to mine. I posted it differently however. I noticed that timeline scrubbing behaves the same as yours when audio scrubbing is enabled.
As a test turn off the audio scrubbing feature under the audio tab in preferences. If you experiencing the same problem as mine then the timeline will respond very quickly displaying everyframe. As long as you dont need to hear the audio when scrubbing that would solve your present dilemma.
I also found that there seems to be a bottleneck using an external media drive. I copied a file that was performing slow to my internal SATA system drive, put it on the timeline and it scrubs perfectly even with audio scrubbing enabled.
This same external drive performed fine on a slower PC with Premiere Pro 2.0. I am about to add an internal 1 terabyte SATA drive as my media drive. If I am correct this will resolve my problem.
By the way, I am using a 7200 RPM external drive with a firewire connection. If you are using a USB 2 cable your bottleneck would probably be greater. I'll leave an update if the new internal drive does the trick.

  • Keep resetting firefox, it doesn't keep settings (I.E. to open on my home page), and when opening a tab the 3*3 links aren't there.

When I set my Firefox to open to my home page, the next day doesn't keep the settings, and when I open a new tab, the 9 click links aren't there. I have reset twice and have no toolbars, but it repeats.

    Hi,
    Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
    Hope this helps!

Hello! It would be nice to have a migration script in Bridge too...
In the past, there were folders you could copy, but given the database changes, I'm not sure, I need to check first with the team.
On a Mac, it is in the collections folders in ~Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/Bridge CS5/Collections/
    PC(XP): C:Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS5\collections
    VIsta/7: user/app data/roaming/Adobe/Bridge CS5/Collections
    Hope this helps

When upgrading no files are copied from the previous version.  So you will have to find them and copy them over.  Locations are in post above.

  • Terminal Doesn't Allow Me To Type In Password

I'm changing a sudo command and need to type in my password on the Terminal. However, when the prompt asks for my password (I'm the admin) there's a gray rectangle and I can't type in anything. I can't even type "Ctrl-C" to quit.
I tried pasting my password. Typing my password. Repaired permissions. Nada. Help!

However, when the prompt asks for my password (I'm the admin) there's a gray rectangle and I can't type in anything.
That's normal; unlike most applications, the Terminal doesn't display anything when characters are entered in response to a request for the password. Type it in and press Enter when done.

  • Terminal doesn't allow me to input password

Hi there. Something strange has happened to me using my Macbook Pro. My Hard Drive disappeared from desktop and finder. I found out that somehow it has the "hidden" flag. Once I found this out, I tried to erase it but, when the terminal asks me my password, it doesn't accept any input at all. Any key I press, or any string I try to copy doesn't appear. The only thing I can do is press enter, receiving the "wrong password" warning. I tried to switch keyboard layout but nothing happens.
    Any suggestion?

that's normal and is a security feature.
to make your drive visible enter the following terminal command
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*

  • Terminal doesn't "catch" d key

Hi I've this problem: I use Arch with XFCE and terminal doesn't recognize d key but it recognize D key! in other applications "d" works fine. I think this problem is come after pacman -Syu. And if I paste a word with "d" inside, terminal doesn't put the "d".
I've also tried with gnome terminal but the problem still the same.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Type copied from Photoshop to InDesign doesn't keep font, size, etc..

Is there a way to copy type set in Photoshop and paste it into InDesign and have it keep the font, size, leading info? Using CS3 here at work, and occasionally get Photoshop files with type for position, that we need to set in InDesign. I try to copy the type and paste it into InDesign, but it doesn't keep the same font, or size, etc... I've tried looking into the preferences, but don't see anything that would help my cause. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Steve

Bob, Thanks for the response, though not the answer I was hoping for! :-) You'd think that between the 2 Adobe applications, you'd be able to copy and paste type and have it hold all the info. Oh well.

  • Keep music organised doesn't keep music very organised

It seems to me that the keep music folder organised option doesn't keep things very organised.
When a song is first imported into iTunes, it puts it in the right place. But if I change info regarding the song which should affect the location (Atrist, Album, Song Name), it does not move the file.
And then if I select Consolidate Library it copies everything to the right place, leaving a bunch of orphaned files.
Is there a way to get iTunes to keep the files in the right place and up to date without ending up with a bunch of duplicate files in the wrong places?

Okay, mine now works here is what I did.
plug in the iPhone, iPad etc
in iTunes select the phone or iPad
Under Summary uncheck "Sync with this....."
Under "Music" uncheck the "Sync Music"
Let it remove all the songs, dont worry it will come back no problems.
Once that is all done all the music on the phone or ipad should be gone.
Now check them both back on and everything should copy back onto it.
    Working now !!!!!

This is really annoying in New Zealand we often have poor coverage due to the iPhone RF signal beeing wound back to save battery life. When an sms doesn't get sent due to no or low signal the 3GS doesn't keep trying to send in the same way a Nokia does. You are forced to keep cheeking to see if the message is sent. I have searched all over for an App to fix this, can anyone help?
