Xfi 2 firmware 1.20.08 vs 1.12.08e

Whats the reason having a firmware just for France?!
I have a 8Gb model and I upgrade the .2.08e to last firmware .20.08, and the player is now alooooooooot louder.
I usualy ear with volume level 8, an now is distorting on 4 with the new firmware. What is going on?!
Whay is this happening?!
Also I feel the xfi effect more present on new firmware. It is only with me!?

I thought the European firmware doen't have volume restriction. Maybe that's the difference?
Also, firmware .20.08 only adds support for 64GB players. So there's no need to upgrade if you have .2.08 installed on a 8 or 6 or 32GB player.

HXFi-2- Latest firmware (.20.08) has caused some issues on 32GB model... When I started my PC last night, it notified me that new firmware was avaliable so it downloaded it and installed it on my Xfi-2 32GB
According to the release notes, it was to add support for the 64 GB model as well as some general improvements.
I can't determine what the latest improvements were (anyone have any clues ) and the UI seems the same.....the only things that have changed are that my applications no longer work (when I go into the applications shortcut, it says there is no valid content: I haven't touched these folders etc and they are still populated with the three standard apps as far as I can tell)
The other thing (which may not be related to the firmware upgrade) is that my photos shortcut now pulls up some of my music folders that contain album art. Is this a feature or a bug (I don't want it to happen, I just want it to show photos within the 'photos' folder on the device).... I think it may have been caused by me simply dragging and dropping music folders onto the device using windows explorer rather than going through Centrale (slow!)

What release notes are you reading? I have seen no reference to improvements other than adding support for the new 64 GB model on this firmware version. From the description of the problems you have, it seems that your player has some sort of file system corruption on the internal flash. I would suggest reinstalling the firmware on your device after formatting it (formatting the device only should be enough, I think).
The size of the new firmware release, double than the size on the previous one, means that it probably has new features and applications that will be enabled on the future; however I doubt it means it has new features right now and hope it does not means we have two firmwares (on for the 64 GB model and other for the previous ones) as the SRM/AlphaBIOS pair on the Digital Alpha systems (an ugly hack on these superb computers, in my humble opinion) -- by the way, the new firmware does not require more space on the internal flash (I have 5077 MB available on mine with all firmware releases).
The behavior you describe about album art being shown on the photos shortcut happens with older firmware releases too; I prefer album art embedded on the audio files instead of being available as another file. I agree with you, only pictures under the photos directory should be shown as images.

Whenever I loaded my files onto my ZEN it would show up as a Voice under Recordings.
And the file name would be "MIC and the date file created etc..."
I noticed that these files where all starting with the letters MIC at the front of the filename...
For instance: Michael_Jackson_Thriller.mp3?? or? Michael_W_Smith_Let_it_rain.mp3
and so on and so on... ANY file that started with the letters M I C? would be thrown in as a voice recorded file and the TAG would not operate.
I have the latest Firmware on my MP3 Player.
The fix was just to change the file name so it did not start with MIC... so i went and switched Michael Jackson to M.Jackson and also switched Michael W Smith to M W smith.
The tag showed up appropriately and I have had no problems since.
It would be nice if there was another Firmware update so that MP3's could start with the letters MIC also I was hoping to bring awareness to this situation for other users.

I used Windows Media Player to sync the files.
I used Creative Central to transfer the files.
These two methods produced results where the file starting with MIC turned into a voice recordings.
I also had problems just copying and pasting the files (using windows explorer).
I have not had any problems with any other file. I normally use MP3Tag to tag my files.
However i even tried using Windows Media to tag the file and I even tried using Creative Central to tag the files.
I tried as many work arounds as possible. But once i renamed the file it worked.

Thinking about getting an xfi fat1l

I was thining about getting an xfi fatility champion. but I was reading it seems to have alot of issues with vista x64 and 4 gigs of ram. So now I am a little worried.

Yes its indeed free till the expiration. In my country its free for lifetime but i have heard in this forum people not able to sync mails after using for sometime that may be because of operator restrictions. In that same page read point 2 carefully.
I read that too, but luckily it applies to yahoo.com accounts only. I have a yahoo.de account so POP would work fine on an email client.
My question was more to do with folders and full sync/reconciliation. Do you have any experience with that?
I never use Yahoo so can't vouch for it, inbuilt e-mail client on E72 supports accessing folders so it shouldn't be a problem once you set it up.
Could you point me into the right direction? I googled it a lot, searched on this forum, but I haven't found anybody who successfully configured contacts and calendar.
I would have done the same thing(i.e. googling). A work around is to use this.

Logging in at the start up depends upon the application, if it the app has an option, I hope it has, you can do it.

Trouble with Teamspeak & XFi

on XP I had no problems, but in Vista I get "echos" , like a person say "hello" I get 4-5 of them. I use Vista 64-bit, XFi is the fatality card with the new WHQL drivers. any suggestions, I have tried to change the priority of teamspeak from the task manager, but it did not help?It normalt hapen when I has 2-3 sessions of eve-online(no sound)?running (on 32-bit XP, I could run 4 with no teamspeak issues). Sound is otherwise fine. Quick spec:?64 bit Vista PremiumE6600, 4Gb ram, 8800, Xfi, raptor?

I also have problem with the mirroring of port on my SG200-08. The firmware is 1.0.6.2.
I mirror the port g1, to which my router to the Internet is connected, to the port g2 to be able to see the traffic with a Centos system running Bandwidthd connected to the port g2. The problem is that I only see the traffic coming in (downloads from the Internet) and not the traffic comming out (uploads to the Internet).
When looking at the SG 200-08 on the web interface at "Status and Statistics/Interface" and looking at the port g2, I see values for the "Transmit Statistics", but all the values are at 0 for the "Received Statisticsc" (see the attached file)
I confirmed that in "Administration/Diagnostic/Port Mirroring" is set up both Tx and Rx (it does not work either if I have Tx or Rx alone: I do not see the uploda traffic to the Internet). See the attached file.
This is very annoying as I purchased this SG 200-08 especially for this and it does not do the job porperly.
Does anybody knows a solution to this?

Zen XFI 16gb - SDHC problems?

I recently was given a Zen XFI 6gb and also a 6gb SDHC card (no name from play.com)?
If i put the player into mass storage mode (in the memory card menu) i can write files to it fine and can then play them back on my pc from the connected player in mass storage mode, but when i try to do anything with these files when its disconnected from the pc i get at first no response from the player eg i click on browse controls freeze for a split second and then i get menu movement again with no on screen errors, if i try again it says there is no card insterted, i eject the card and reinsert and try again....this time though i get a message on screen which says "Connecting...." and thas how far it gets untill i hard reset the player.
I can plug the player back into the pc after this and i can still read my files correctly. (I have tried with different mp3's and fat32/ntfs options still makes no difference)
Is this a firmware problem with an incompatible card? the reason im suspicious with this is the card reads and writes fine when its connected to the pc, just not when in standalone mode.
I have also tried some sd(hc) formatting software but it still made no difference
Firmware is the latest.

I was just looking for the answer to the same question you have. Same issue. I got a Silicon Power 4Gb SDHC (class 6) card, and it just freezes up my X-Fi 6Gb completely. Actually, I can use the card once through the Browse menu, but the next time I try, it just hangs and needs a soft reset. After that, I can use it again just once before it freezes again, etc.
Oh, it seems that my brand new Sandisk (!) 4Gb SDHC class 2 card won't budge either. Creative only lists their Sandisk Ultra II SDHC High Performance card, class 2, as compatible for the size that I'd like to use (4Gb). :-(
It does work fine through the Removable Disk menu option however, just like you said.

!I suspect the battery was too low when you did the update. Charge the player for a couple of hours then try booting the from the recovery mode. Select Format (note: format will delete the contents of the player so you may need to put back your music files from your PC once the player is up and running) then Reboot. Download the latest firmware available from the support site and follow the steps under details on how to update the firmware. Hope this hel

I'm getting the occasional BSOD in BF2, but I'm not super concerned yet.

I'm planning some major system upgrades in the coming year, but I am worried because I have an earlier model of the X-FI. In particular, I don't have the heatsync on my board.
Will Creative allow me to upgrade my firmware after my one year warranty?
Do I have the option of getting it upgraded now on a voluntary basis?
I want to get an Asus motherboard (P5N32 or better), and I don't want to run into firmware compatibility problems.

Called CL support. No popping/crackling issue with XFI kno

yeah.. after a post by Catherina i decided to post this to make sure you guys see it. If CL closes/deletes this thread they simply acknowledge that they dont want you to know the truth.
i called CL support yesterday around 4ish, and i asked if they got an update on the crackling/popping issue. the reply was "there is no case with popping/crackling issue with XFI that is known". i called again so that i speak with someone else to see if it was the case that only off them was unaware of the situation and got same reply.
the guys attempted to give me the entire troubleshoot again.. i told him i already done all that for the past 5 months bla bla bla.. he offered an RMA with updated firmware... i told him i already got an RMA 2 months ago...
now WTF is going on? are they simply BSing us that they have acknowledged the issue?

I'm not sure what you hope to achieve by starting this thread and essentially calling us liars. Customer Support have to troubleshoot a problem if someone contacts them. They won't have any new info for you yet. Others may contact Support with similar symptoms but resolve them by doing some of the troubleshooting mentioned.
Everything I have told you here is true, we are investigating this and as soon as I have some information for you I will be posting it here.
I'm closing this thread, not to silence you or because I "don't want you to know the truth", but because this thread was only started to cause an argument and I don't see any constructi've discussion coming from this. Please use the other thread to discuss this particular topic (crackling).

XFi Web Drivers: Covertly Flashes Firmwa

Does anyone have any information on the latest web drivers for the XFI Platinum, in particular where they flash the firmware of the card without prior consent or approval?
It seems that one of the "fixes" of this "upgrade" is to disable my S/PDIF Input settings on the Entertainment Console, when using an NVidia based chipset M/B. On another test rig with non-NVidia based M/B the latest web drivers DO enable the S/PDIF Input in the Console, which is all nice except for the fact that this PC isn't my main Home Theater PC.
These results were based on fresh install of Win XP, Service Pack 2, latest web drivers on both systems. On the same note, when using the original CD drivers, the results are the same: the flashed firmware disables/enables the S/PDIF Input depending on your M/B.
I have contacted Creative Support, but have yet to receive response with regard to above.
What's even more interesting is that aside from occasional popping/snapping sounds, my card was always working fine until the "firmware downgrade". Now the firmware has rendered it unusable since it can't accept S/PDIF Input from my Hi Def Satellite Recei'ver, which was the only reason I purchased this card a couple of years ago.
Is there anybody out there who can shed some light as to what exactly is going on here?

Cannot Adjust Recording Volume (XFI Elite P

Hello, I'm having trouble with my XFI Elite Pro. Whenever I go to record something and I select the device I want to use the volume knob automatically goes down to the third line. If i turn to turn it up or down it automatically shots back down there instantly. The playback knobs all work fine its only the recording ones and its every device I have that does it. Has anyone ever had this problem? I tried updating to the newest driver/firmware but it didn't change anything. Thanks in advance!

Is possible connect XFi 2 to a PC desktop that run Win 2000 SP4?

My brother bought the MP4 XFi 2 in USA. I come from Argentina and I?ve got a PC desktop that run Win2k SP4. Is possible connect XFi 2 with firmware compatible with Win XP SP2 to a PC desktop that run Win 2000 SP4. I only want to connect it to PC and submit files since and to PC. What problems could I have got? If I do that the PC would be able to recognize it or become instable? What do you think? Sorry my poor english but I speak spanish. The HP Pavilion is a computer, and not a modem. Or rather it is a computer with a built-in modem. So you already have a computer to run your programs and no other computer is needed.
About the display, a major advantage of the Thunderbolt display is a function of the Thunderbolt interface and its ability to support multiple I/O technologies including Thunderbolt, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2, and Firewire 800 in addition to the video signal. I know of no adaptor, or PC compatible display card that will enable all of that from a computer that was not built with Thunderbolt built in.
However, if you are primarily interested in the 27" display, then Apple's LED display will work quite nicely with an appropriate $35 adaptor available through the Apple Store. Which particular adaptor you need depends on the video output port on the PC. SInce you say it is an old HP Pavilion, it probably has a VGA or SVGA video port.

Macbook4,1 10.6.8 and firmware update - what went wrong?

Macbook 4,1 2008 2.4Ghz (not unibody). I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled 10.6 from the Retail DVD and all seemed to go well. The MB was working fine up to that point. I then set up the MB (network, date and time, etc.) and repaired permissions.
I then checked Software Update and downloaded and installed the recommended updates to 10.6.8.
Again, all seemed to go fine. System booted and I repaired Permissions again. I went to the Apple web site, a couple of other web sites, and Software Update found another update to install: Firmware. Though I don't remember what version.
I clicked OK and it installed.
Upon reboot, it seemed to install okay.
But then I left the Macbook and it went into Sleep.
I didn't come back to it again until the next day.
When I pressed a key to wake it, I got what I now know is the screen that appears after you wake it from SAFE SLEEP. As per this Apple KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757.
And this is where the problems started.
After the MB woke to the Safe Sleep screen, which shows the desktop a little "out of focus", the progress bars started filling in from left to right, BUT before they completed, the screen went BLACK.
And it has had a problem with black screen ever since. I can boot the MB from internal or external HD or from DVD, and it seems to boot fine. Boot chime, Apple logo, spinning wheel, then at the point where it pauses, blue screen, then goes to desktop, instead the screen goes black.
It finishes booting, but seems to go into Sleep.
I can wake it by pressing a key, but the screen either comes on and goes black again after 10 seconds, or I get the Safe Sleep wake screen, and then it goes black after 10 seconds.
And at boot or when waking the MB, the front LED flashes 5 times. There are no error beeps.
I've tried changing RAM, but problems remain.
So what's all this? Any ideas?
The display doesn't seem dead, as it works to boot and wake. The MB works fine with external monitor.
It's weird, but I can't think of anything apart from the Firmware update. The problems started right after installing it.
Unfortunately, this model of Macbook doesn't have a Firmware Restoration image to download and burn to CD. It is the ONLY Mac at this point that doesn't have this!
I called Apple support and even bought the 49 Euro Pay Per Incident service, which proved to be the same as throwing 49 Euro out the window. The only "technical" support they provided was to Reset the SMC, which you can find out about FOR FREE at the Apple website. And which I'd done anyway. I'd also reinstalled the MacOS. Don't want to beef too much, but sheesh, you've already got a Macbook that might need costly repairs, and they make you pay 49 Euro BEFORE they even ask you about the problem and what you've done to try to solve it. I'm tempted to say "ripoff". I mean, if all they can offer you is the advice to reset the SMC - which Apple offers for free at their website - then that's pretty poor service for 49 Euro, to say the least.
Apart from the wasted 49 Euro, I'm pretty peeved about the Firmware update (or so it seems) wrecking a perfectly working 2008 Macbook. I don't know how to convince Apple of this, but I'm certainly going to try.

Re. the Displays setting, the Macbook display isn't recognized and mirroring isn't an available option.
I've scoured the net and the idea of replacing the PRAM battery may be something to try. I read a post by a guy with a Macbook logic board screwed up by a Firmware update, which he solved by replacing the PRAM battery, as when you disconnect it you reset the logic board.

No luck so far with talking to Apple. I will try to get hold of someone a little more tech savvy and/or in a position of authority, as it seems that the Firmware is the culprit. Obviously a million other things could go wrong with a Macbook, but given the timing here it looks like the Firmware. Firmware updates can and occasionally do screw up a computer, as most manufacturers will warn you before you apply the update: PC makers, printer makers, etc. And they probably warn you that it's all your responsibility if anything goes wrong. But re. the Apple Firmware update:
1) it came thru Software Update
2) there was no warning
3) to make things worse, there's no Firmware Restoration image that I can burn to a CD to reflash the logic board: this is the only Apple computer that doesn't have a Firmware Restoration option
I'll try to get thru to a manager and convince him/her that the firmware may have been the cause.
Do you think an authorized Apple tech might have access to some way to do a firmware restoration? Something not avaiable to mere mortals? Because if not, the only solution looks like a new logic board.
