  • Are new beta drivers for XP and Xfi fatal1ty any go

Can you share your feelings about the new xfi beta drivers with a fatalty card? I've experienced they are better in terms of stability, but find that games are almost now missing sounds. Weird I know, but it's almost like I am not getting full 32 voice capability. The current drivers Creative offers are ok, but I find that any problems I have had with my system lately always come down to a Xfi driver component.
Anyhow, appreciate your experiences with them...

Well for me I managed to stop it from reverting back to 2. in the Creative Volume Panel by unchecking Syncronize with Control Panel option.
Seems that the problem with what you were mentioning is related to Sounds and Audio Devices, when I did have Creatives Volume Panel Syncronised with Control Panel, when I was playing certian games, it would end up reverting to 2. (which I found annoying) but since I did the above I have had no more issues since

And i don't know how to uninstall them, i cannot find any creative drivers when i go into the set up programcan u help me please?

    Hello LA,
The window that I have is different from the one you posted. Please see attached for mine. When I clicked on REMOVE, a message popped up and disappeared within a couple seconds. And the message is as following: "The installer is verifying the installation, please do not reboot while this dialog is being display." This same message popped up every time REMOVE is clicked but I have no luck on removing MAX.
This test PC is for legacy testing and it was with Windows 98 and have an ISA DAQ card installed that requires DAQ driver 6.9.3. Can upgrading the test PC to Windows 2000 corrupt the installation?
Looking forward for your advice. Thank you.

  • T440s: Best place to find beta drivers?

    Hey Guys,
Having some Wi-Fi issues (see http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T440s-Wifi-unusable-5GHz-missing-AC/td-p/14... and wondering if there's a newer driver I can try.
Beta drivers are commonly distributed by support staff either on forums on by email - any ideas on the best way to find the latest Win 8.1 T440s Wi-Fi drivers for the Intel AC 7260?
PS - I know Intel has drivers but a/ they're older (?) and b/ I was under the impression manufacturer ones were better for laptops.
    Best,
    Ollie

    Hey Andy,
There is just as large a collection of plugins for Logic (these come in the AU or Audio Units format) as for Cubase. Anywhere you can buy recording equipment should be selling plugins too. Some free plugins (but not very useful most of the time) can be found on places like www.digitalfishphones.com or www.airwindows.com . The guy that owns AirWindows seems to basically do code copies of plugins. He's got some great free plugins. . . one of which I often use on vocals. he also has some paid plugins that are far cheaper than the competition ($60 vs. $500 for a tape emulation plugin for instance) that are VERY good.
If you're looking to buy plugins, go to www.sweetwater.com . . . or really any large pro audio retailer, but sweetwater's a good place to start. If I knew more of what you were looking for I could help guide you a bit better.
Also, if you have an ilok key you can download demos of many paid plugins and give them a test drive.

  • Live! Cam Voice BETA Drivers and Widows Vista

I have just installed the BETA drivers for Live! Cam Voice and everything seems to have worked except that there appears to be a conflict with Microsoft Genuine Advantage and I am told that "There is a problem with your licence so notifications will no longer appear". The Error is 0xC004D40 described as "The security processor reported a system file mismatch error. I am asked to validate the product online. Validation takes me to Micorosft Genuine Advantage (a misnomer if ever there was one) where I am told that the "copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. Either an unauthorised change was made to Windows files or a software preogram installed on this computer is not currently compatible with Windows Vista". That would not matter too much if as a by-product. I had not been prevented from updating my installation of Windows Vista, but I was and the only way round that was to start my computer with no programs running and update in such almost clean state. Thus I counsel everyone seeking to use the BETA drivers for Live! Cam Voice to be aware of the problems that they might encounter.

  • What's the best way to record high SPL band rehearsals?

I need a simple way to record higher SPL band rehearsals. I don't need studio quality or multi tracking. Just an audio recording that clear and as un distorted as possible. I know the built in mics on Idevises are not really made for higher volume stuff. My band has changed some of the structures of cover songs we are doing so practicing to the original artists studio recording does more harm then good. I just want to be able to record us rehearsing so I can practice to it at home. And get the changes and structure down before we play out live later this month.
I have quite a few idevices but the more modern choices at my disposal are: iPhone 5, iPhone 4, iPad (3rd gen) ipod (4th gen)
What device, app and hardware will healed best results. I've been told the mic on the earbuds have a better frequency response then the built in mic. So is it better to use that?  And what app is good simple and effective at auto controlling the mic's sensitivity to reduce distortion.
Also I am the drummer and acoustically seated, in About the worst position for quality. So rather then have the idevice behind my kit where I can control it. I would need something I could place across the room and just record an hour or two.
    Thanks.

Seems like you've answered your own question as those are the two ways to do what you are trying to do. Using the key-switch will be less CPU intensive than using multiple instances of the plugin.

Here's one solution that I use for vocal narration.
I have a Shure PG58 with a XLR to 1/4" connection, to which I added a 3.5mm adaptor. The mic was about $60, the adapter was $4.
(Edit: I've just noticed that Griffin makes an XLR to 3.5mm cable, which would eliminate the adaptor.)
You can't connect a mic directly to the line input of your PowerMac, because the level will be too low, but you can either use a mic pre-amp or mixer (if you already have these), otherwise, you can use a Griffin iMic (which is what I use) to convert the audio to USB, which gives you a decent level.

  • Beta drivers for Audigy2

Well, the title says what I'm looking for, but here's my problem:
I had installed Quake4, and was playing fine. After I had finished the game, I went to update my drivers (finally,) and noticed that I was running my NX on generic windows drivers. I updated all the drivers, mediasource, etc... (along with some other housekeeping updates,) and I now can no longer open the game.
I've already eliminated the video card update as the problem, and I honestly don't know of a way to eliminate a bios update issue, however, I HIGHLY doubt that is the culprit. After some discussions in the quake disc. boards, I sence that there is a problem with the creative drivers. I have been told that most people are getting success by using the latest beta drivers, and I was linked to a file called "SBA2_PCDrvBeta_LB_2_08_0002.exe" However, when I try to run that file, I'm told that "Setup is unable to detect a supported device on your system..." As the title says Audigy2/ZS, Audigy 4, I'm thinking these are the wrong beta drivers for my device, but I can't find beta drivers for the Audigy2 NX USB
    Help? Thanks...

I have tried re-installing, that isn't working. I'm also hearing that people are having success when installing the OpenAL libs....
I've been trying to get this file: http://developer.creative.com/articl...&top=38&aid=46 however, whenever I try to d/l the file I time-out to a "page unavail." error... Is there some server error at creative? ...or, does anyone know of a mirror server?
The file I'm looking for is: OpenALwEAX.exe

  • 2.08.0002 Beta Drivers will not install on Audigy 2 Platinum

I am attempting to install the new beta drivers (SBA2_PCDrvBeta_LB_2_08_0002.exe) to gain OpenAL support and better Battlefield 2 performance but I have not been able to. Upon installing the drivers, the system will freeze. I have left it for over an hour, and it remains frozen. On occasion, the installation would work, but then would freeze after I log in again after the reboot. Only way to recover is to reboot in safemode and remove the drivers.
I have tried removing the old drivers entirely (and cleaned the system with Driver Cleaner Pro). I have also tried extracting the driver set and letting windows do the installation, and I have also tried running the secondary setup.exe installer in the driver directory. I also tried changing my video driver, in case that was causing a conflict. Each installtion instance began with all of the Creative-related drivers cleaned by Driver Cleaner Pro.
I checked my msinfo32 and there are no IRQ conflicts or sharing related to the Audigy 2. Overall, I think I have attempted this installation about 5 times.

    *bump*
    Any ideas guys?

  • Which is the best way to record full hd on digital betacam tape?

    Hello,
I'm capturing and editing full hd size but the final product has to be delivered on a digital betacam tape with Edit to Tape option to record. I have tried doing so with the following 2 ways:
    1. Recording from HD timeline on a HD tape. Then capturing back on the machine from the same HD tape as PAL. Then recording on a Digital betacam as final product.
    2. Exporting from HD timeline with current settings as a qucktime movie. Importing the same movie on a PAL timeline. Then recording on a digtal betacam.
My timeline setting for HD is : Uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2 1920x1080 HDTV 1080i 16:9; Pixel Aspect Ratio SQUARE
My timeline setting for PAL is: Uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2 720x576 PAL CCIR 601/DV Pal 5:4; Pixel Aspect Ratio PAL CCIR 601 (720x576)
The problem is when the episode is broadcasted on tv, the quality of video looks bad and a little jarred. Can anyone suggest any other way to record on a digital betacam?
    Thank you.
P.S. I've tried dragging the hd sequence to a PAL timeline.
And also exporting using qicktime conversion to Custom size 720x576 without preserving pixel aspect ratio with Uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2 compression and then changing the distort setting to -33.33 to fit on a PAL timeline with black bars. These 2 options look better than the ones i've mentioned above but I'm not sure if it is right. Please Advice.

Go into the AJA Control Panel. For secondary output, choose 525i 29.97. Right click on the output option you want (they are on the right) and choose SECONDARY or 525i.  Then a little box should appear between the Frame Buffer and the output option that says DOWNCONVERT.
Do you have the Kona 3? what hardware are you using?

  • New BETA drivers for TV@nywhere Master

there was a thread somewhere before where someone had found some updated BETA drivers for the MSI TV@nywhere Master card but it seems to have gone now
i've been using them for a while now, and they're very stable, and the picture quality has improved somewhat
they say they are for the Master version of the card, but i think they may work on the Mega PC version, the only difference is the Master has a AM/FM tuner as well
anyone having stability probs in media center III or MSIPVS might want to try them out and see what happens...
i've uploaded them to my webspace, and you can find them here in ZIP format: http://www.ukshazam.com/downloads/8606Master_drv.zip
please note these are BETA drivers and as such MSI won't support them (as if they do anyway
i'll also post this in the Mega PC forum

As I recall when this BETA driver started flying around the forum, they WERE NOT official or unofficial MSI drivers. They were modified by a user from another forum and someone from this forum posted a link to them. THESE ARE IN NO WAY RELATED TO MSI DIRECTLY!! Someone reversed engineered the driver and probly thru extensive testing, via trial and error, was able to clean up the driver to give the result that most have had with them. This doesn't mean that everyone is going to have the same result, which is and has been the reality with any add-on card produced since PC's came out...compatibility issues DO still exist out there and not all systems are going to play in the sandbox well with all add-on cards that are manufactured...something to keep in mind when purchasing new systems...
Furthermore, it's been my experience that proprietary systems (The Pac-10 as I call them...IBM, Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq, Sony, eMachine, etc...) have more issues than White Box systems when it comes to add-on compatibility. If you don't know this already, most of these companies DO NOT want you to purchase off the shelf items from Best Buy, CompUSA, etc...they want you to have to come back to them for upgrades and add-on devices, at higher than retail prices, and that's where they make the most profit. Sad reality, but true. Case in point: My first retail purchased PC was a Dell XPS Pentium 100, (my prior PC's were purchased from Michael Dell's garage) I wanted to upgrade it to a 4X CDROM drive and Dell had failed to include the snap in side rails for their new innovative case that was tool-less. So I called up Dell support and asked if these rails were available. The CS Rep told me that they were so I asked how much. She asked me if I had bought the upgraded device from Dell and I said no. Then she informed me that they wouldn't sell them to me ($6.00 US) because I hadn't purchased the upgrade device from them. Needless to say I was pissed. This was circa 1995-96.
Anyway, over the years of doing network consulting, I can't tell you the countless times that I've heard this type of thing on the phone from many of the above listed companies...yes, most have gotten better over the years (Like Dell including all of the rails needed inside the case nowadays) but overall they still have the same mindset and it's much more subtle when they design a motherboard that won't play in the sandbox well with retail bought components...*shrugs*
I got tired of playing their game after a while and started building my own systems. I found White Box isn't always better either but for the most part it's been a far cry easier than buying proprietary...
Just my 2 cents here for what it's worth...

  • Best way to record electric guitar

    Hi all,
after months of playing with GarageBand, a fantastic tool, I decided to try to record something with my electric guitar, just to see if I could be able to compose a song
Well, I recently got a Dual G5 PowerMac, I saw it has a line in and a digital audio connector. I even got an iMic, a leftover from the "old" Dual G4 I had.
So far, which is the best way to record my electric guitar? I already have the 1/4" -> 1/8" adaptor, should I just plug it in the iMic or the line in port on the rear of the Mac?
Or , should I use a pre-processor before sending the signal to the Mac (I have an effect simulator from yamaha)?
And, in case neither of the 2 scenarios are really worth it, what do you suggest?
I already tried using the search feature, but I really couldn't find 1 clear topic that summed up my questions... sorry 'bout that.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards

You can certainly try the Line-In, you won't hurt anything. Most people find that it doesn't work very well because guitar is not "Line-Level".
Others question the quality of the A/D converts built in to the Mac. Personally, I doubt the iMic's are any better, but the level problem usually forces one away from the direct Line In without some form of pre-amp.
I've used the iMic (though with a mixing console) and found it acceptable. A higher quality interface (read much more money) yields much better results ... it's always a trade off.

  • Is there a way to "record" my screen saver?

I've got the screen saver that looks like a real fish aqaurium and it works fantastic but I'm wondering if it would be possible to record it and play it on my TV. I guess what I'd really like is a way to record what's happening on my desktop or something. I'm also trying to figure out a way to record some Photoshop stuff to teach to co-workers, as opposed to actually writing out all the steps. Any ideas?

Well of course you don't, because you didn't include a link! Here you go:
    http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
I too am a happy user. One thing to think about is the resolution. If it's just for TV then you only need 640x480, so set your capture area to that, and also your desktop to as close to that as you can, that way you get a good frame rate.
I just did a test, to see that it will work. One trick is to use a hot corner to trigger the screen saver, that's better than recording nothing for a minute while the screen saver kicks in. Here's my test, recorded on my iMac G5:

  • Microsoft is going to pressure Creative for better drivers!

    Cool feature of vista:
Finally, Microsoft will be making it easier for users to get manufacturers to take action when it comes to bad driver releases. Often times, an application or game can be completely or partially crippled due to a bug in the driver or just one that is poorly designed. Windows Vista will allow users to vote for the quality of a driver that they install and all drivers that wish to pass the Windows Vista Premium logo program must meet a Green status, which is a rating of 7 to 9. Any driver that is rated below it will cause the accompanying device to fall out of Premium compliancy and the manufacturer must supply users with a fixed driver within 90 days. How Microsoft will enforce this policy remains to be seen, but it's definitely a step forward in creating stable and secure Windows systems."
    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2842

Your missing 3 points about how it works.
. These are for MS vertified drivers only.
    2. Developers don't have to get MS certifed to use it.
    3. Creative drivers would be certifed, has nothing to do with how much you upgrade a driver, its based on that driver release quality.
To sum up article below, you don't NEED MS at all to get a driver in vista.
    http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2780&p=3
"Of greater importance though is the difference in how drivers are handled. The x64 version will by default be locked down to only accept kernel mode drivers which have been signed, and while this can be bypassed by tweaking Vista a bit, it's not a very easy thing to do at the moment and there is no guarantee it will stay this way. Ultimately, Microsoft sees this as a move towards ensuring better drivers, but as we've seen with WHQL certified video drivers, there are a lot of things that can slip through the cracks of Microsoft's testing. It is also not clear, even within Microsoft, whether developers who need to write kernel mode drivers (drivers which effecti'vely have full, unadulterated, operating system level access to the hardware) will be allowed to sign their drivers using 3rd parties like Verisign. Giving developers this option would offer support without WHQL tests, but would almost defeat the purpose of the requirement (which is to ensure the integrity of the system).
If only a Microsoft signature is to be allowed, hardware manufacturers will be at the mercy of Microsoft, who may not sign legally questionable devices such as DVD emulators, but at the same time may also not sign malware such as the overambitious anti-piracy toolkit StarForce or Sony's CD rootkit. In general we're concerned that with the other Digital Rights Management technologies going into Vista such as HDCP, Microsoft is going to lean towards the side of only avoiding signing obvious malware and software that sits on the "fair use" side of the IP/copyright fence (while still signing items like StarForce). However, we won't really know what kind of a stance Microsoft is going to take until Vista shi

At any rate, we hope they leave in the ability to disable driver checking, even if it's only something technical savvy users are capable of doing."

  • Zen Micro: Beta Drivers + Drop = Cra

    Hello fellow Zen Micro users,
This is my first post here. Just wanted to share a little experience I had. After only two weeks of use, my Zen Micro stopped working, after one (!) accidental drop to the ground. While starting up, it just stalled at the Creative screen. Tried the Reformat, Clean Up in the boot menu, to no avail. I finally gave up, blamed it on bad luck, but luckily got a new player in return. This after originally getting the Zen Micro as a refund for a Muvo^2 I bought last year, which had problems with the headphone-plug (a company policy I like - but something absolutely necessary with products that break so easily!).
Like I said, I got a new one now. This time however, I decided to stick with "official" firmware (.02.05). With the last one, I used the new MTP Beta ones. I liked them because they solved many issues I had before:
    - Skipping tracks would finally not take several seconds anymore
    - Drag & Drop functionality
    - Louder volume
    - Battery seemed to be better charged
    - Transfer speed from PC to Micro seemed faster
However, I'm a bit skeptical if it wasn't these BETA drivers that caused my last Zen Micro to be rendered completely useless after one drop. Can anyone confirm this? I'd love to use the Beta drivers again for the above mentioned reasons. However, not for the price of constantly having to replace my player.
I kinda long for the days of the old walkman; I had one working for at least 5 years :/ No firmware upgrades, no software crashes... and I would actually LISTEN to a tape instead of constantly skipping tracks on my search for the right soundtrack to the time of day
    But still.
    Andrew cA

Hiya! Okay... how does it feel to know that you're not on crack? The same exact thing happened to me recently. I know that these things aren't supposed to be exposed to trauma, but I was getting out of my car, and it dropped about a foot down onto the ground. No way did I think it was a damaging fall, but when I got inside my house, I checked to see if things were okay. I turned it on, and it happened to be on a song that I hated, and for some reason just never deleted. So I chose delete, and it deleted... and deleted... and the message never went away. Two hours later the delete message was still hanging there. So I tried shutting it off. It wouldn't turn off. So then, I did as everyone on the web suggested, which was remove the battery. When I plugged it back in, it made this "whirring" noise (it was the loudest, most bizarre thing) and the Creative logo appeared. And then THAT never went away. I tried to put it in crash recovery mode, and each time it would "stick" in whatever option I chose until the battery died. And each time I turned it on, the Creative logo would appear with that weird noise. My computer (and and software) did not recognize it, yet I could charge the battery and the blue light would glow. Tech support ran me through a whole big thing of deleting and reinstalling my drivers, which didn't do a thing. I have a new one on the way. Again, I was totally shocked because it wasn't that harsh of a drop. I've treated my laptop worse than that. Anywhooo.... you're not alone.
