XFi, Vistax64, CMSS in Media Cen

Hi All, I have an XFi Extreme Gamer, with 7. Creative Speakers. I am running Vista x64 Ultimate. When I test speakers in sound settings I get sound from all speakers. My problem is I have set CMSS to upmix, but in Media Centre playing 5. DVD's (or Stereo TV) It does not upmix it to 7.. For example the middle right and middle left speakers do nothing when playing 5.. I have found some relevant information in the knwon Vista Issues post but the status says there is a team working on it. Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet or an ETA (or just a workaround will do to get it working ) The Vista audio architecture changes the way per-stream audio processing works, which required us to write new software to support this
Issues that may be encountered:
CMSS no longer works on audio streams from the OS.
Status:
Features based on Windows XP architecture must be rewritten to conform to the new Vista architecture, and we have a team of software engineers, project managers and testers dedicated to this task in order to provide our customers the same seamless audio experience under Windows Vista that they enjoyed under Windows XP. Thanks Diaf

If you're that unhappy with their products, why buy them? Contacting the big retailers isn't going to keep them from carrying Creative's Products.
I don't think they've just "hacked" the previous drivers as the audio is completely rewritten in Vista. I fear that Creative has taken the same approach as some other companies out there and figuring that normal consumers don't have 4Gb of ram.... Then again, normal consumers don't have x64 windows either.
Rember whem Bill Gates said that something like 64K of ram was more than anyone would EVER need? I seem to remeber by the end of that year, 28k was "Too Much"
I think the bottom line here is that if you aren't happy with their products, vote with your wallet -Buy something else. As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy with my Audigy 2zs's and X-Fi. I'm NOT happy with "Software" sound solutions, such as the onboard sound or Turtle Beach's cards; after all, they are only Via chips on a add-in card. Still software sound.

Im lolking for Audigy NX but someone can tell me that can i use the remote of Audigy NX to control Windows Media Center.
    Thanks!

As far as I'm aware MCE isn't officially supported, I presume you are installing the standard XP drivers/CD, is that correct?
Just to rule out a simple problem, can you check if there is a light from the optical output (when you remove the little black button cover)? If there isn't, it means that either there is no power to the dri've, or that there might be a hardware problem. Check there are two cables going to the dri've, one is the flat grey cable from the card, and the other is a little power cable (like you would connect to a floppy dri've).

Coping with this problem for 3 weeks now, I seek for help here. Here is my configuration:* Creative Labs DTT3500 DeskTop Theater Digital 5. Computer Speaker System Manual* SB Li've!Platinum Manual* PowerDVD 6.0?DeLuxe?I've connected the DTT3500 with the SB using the Digital DIN. By chosing the right settings on the DTT3500 and the sound card, I'm getting a clear test signal from all 6 speakers. Using PowerDVD, I'm getting a digital signal too. However, from the Media Center setup, I'm getting a strange stereo signal when I choose for the 5. option in the speaker configuration. I guess, I've tried already all possible combinations chosing SPDIF or 6 speaker configuration in PowerDVD; nothing hel

? You are needing to do AC-3 passthrough and you may want to use the Shark Codec Pack instead of K-Lite. Instructions for Shark's pack are here:

  • Creative Media Source + Windows XP Media Cen

I have always used the Creative Media Source as an audio player and as a method of creating playlists etc.
I just recieved a New Dell XPS400 with a Dell installed Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music card. This machine has WinXP Media Center Edition installed as an operating system, for which I did a clean re-install. In reistalling the software from the Creative disk that was supplied with the computer I noticed that Creative Media Source was not included as part of the package. I further noticed that the in the download section of the website that this isn't an available download for the Win XP Media Center OS, even though it is available for Win XP Home edition.
Is there a compatibility problem in using the Creative Media Source with this OS ? Is there a conflict with the other Creative software that is typically installed with this card? In case it makes a difference; in playing back wav and mp3 audio files I am not interested in opening up the Win Media Center interface in order to play those files or create playlists, I simply want to associate those audio files to open and play with the Creative Media Source as I have always done with previous versions of Windows XP.
Thanks for any advice and clearification !

Hi m8. Just install the Windows XP version (Professional), and it will work, as I use Creative Media Source with Windows Media Center 2005, no problems. After, try the "product update" under support on the creative site, to see if there are any new things to update, just incase.

I have yet to try the original Entertainment Centre on my x64 Vista but surely it would require x64 drivers of some sort for the actual dri've bay that detects the remote control's signal? I assumed that Creative haven't implemented this capability into their current driver set?Has anyone actually got Entertainment Centre working coreectly on x64 Vista? (I'm useing everything else on the YouP-Pax download now).

  • Live 5.1 and Windows Media Cen

I'm completely confused. I'm sure I have a SB Li've 5., but my Windows Media Center says I have a Li've Value. The Model is CT4760.
In either case, I'm trying to get Optical Audo to work with 5.. I can get 2 channels out of Optical Audio, but no more. The Creative software only gives me the options for headphones, 2 speakers and 4 speakers. With 4 speakers selected I still only hear 2. No where do I see an option for 5. or to allow AC3 passthrough.
I used this card before with a Linux system and I had 5. working just fine. Am I missing something? Do I not have a Li've 5. card? Am I installing the wrong thing? I downloaded the driver install from here, so I assume its correct. Media Center installs it's own if I don't use that, and it's also for the Value card.
    Thanks for any help,
    GamersCloset

CT4760 is actually..a 4 channel sound card (therefore, I think that's why Windows Media Center Editin detects it as Value card) But it does have 5. Digital Output (not analog)
I don't have hands on experience with MCE with me, but try this.
Go to 'Volume Control' in Accessories, click on Options and turn on 'Advanced Options'
There should be an 'Advanced' Button at the bottom of the master volume slider.
Click that and select "Digital Output Only"
Otherwise, you'll have to try to install the right drivers. Its definitely not SB Li've 5.
But since you are using Digital speakers, I dont think you have to worry too much.

  • BSOD with Media Cen

For a long time now I've been having BSoDs accompanied with loud static noise when Vista Media Center was recording and/or starting.Sometimes it wouldn't BSOD entirely, but just cause the loud and continoues static noise, and sometimes it would only make the static noise when other sounds were playing. I just lately realized it was caused by my X-Fi XtremeMusic card, and as soon as I disabled it (I didn't even have to remove it) it stopped BSoDing. Anyone encountered it as well, and perhaps managed to find a solution that doens't involve using my onboard soundcard, which sucks?

It could be a codec problem.
Do you have any issues when playing DVDs through Vista either in WMP or in MCE?
Have you got Nero or Power DVD running on your PC? If so they may have given their own codecs priority over the standard M$ ones or there may be a clash. If you use either of these make sure that you have the latest updates for Vista compatability.
In fact, many people prefer the image quality with Nero or Power's codecs but there's no easy way in Vista to select or change the codec that is used in Vista MCE. Download a util called VMCD.exe - this will allow you to select the video and audio codecs Vista will use.

  • Mirror vide output different Resolution

I want to mirror the video to my TV, in order to use it as a media cener. I will buy a VGA splitter so the same output could be seen in the LCD and my HD TV.
The problem is that my LCD Monitor (Acer X221W) Supports 1680x1050 and my TV supports a lower resulution, it will work anyway ?
    What could happen ?

Picture quality usually isn't very good using a VGA splitter. The splitter causes the signal to be double-terminated which can both lower the output (darken the picture) but it can also cause shadowy artifacts to appear around text characters and other scene transitions in the picture.
Another problem you may encounter, depending on how the splitter is wired internally, is that the Mac might get two EDID values, or no EDID values. Either could cause problems with the Mac not knowing what resolution to output from the video port.
About the resolution question, that may be the least of your worries. You will just have to find a resolution both displays support (assuming it works at all because of other problems outlined above). I imagine both would run from 1280 x 720 at 60 Hz, so that may be the best common resolution setting you will find. But it's hard to say for sure.
If these are both LCD displays, you shouldn't have to worry about causing physical and permanent damage by experimenting. Modern displays cannot be damaged in the same way old tube TVs could be damaged by running at the incorrect timing. So you might as well buy the splitter, since they are inexpensive, and see what results. That's the only way to know for sure if it will work and if you will be happy with the outcome. Good luck.

  • Adding External TV Tuner

I just purchased, without the TV Tuner option, and would like to add. I tried the HP USB TV Tuner, but it appears to support only Notebook Computers. Has any one else had any luck with the HP DIgitial USB TV Tuner with this system.
Any other recommended options for adding a TV Tuner to this system. Any suggestions for External TV Tuners if the HP USB will not work.
    Thanks

USB is USB - Universal. Plus, the touchsmart internals are notebook technology. As long as the USB tuner is compatible with Windows Media Cener, you are good to go.

  • Frequency response requirements for headphones with CMSS on XFi ???

    Hi,
I would like to know if someone could tell me what kind of heaphones are suitable for the CMSS mode with the XFi.
    I mean between : flat response/free-field correction/diffuse-field correction.
Applying HRTF filtering should mean that headphones with flat response is the best option ( same configuration as binaural recordings).
But I have a big doubt that Creative team expects costumers to possess such a pair of headphones, as it is rather for scientific uses (psychoacoustics, audiology etc...).
So, if we look at the technical solutions for wide audience we have two options (FF correction and DF correction). Here is a trick because these corrections intend to reproduce some of the effects from HRTF (for two different environment configuration of HRTF measurements). It is why the frequency response of most of the headphones have a notch between 4Hz and 0 kHz.
To simplify, if we listen binaural sounds with classical headphones the effect of outer pinna is reproduced twice.
So I guess Creative have implemented a kind of normalization/equalization/correction process to deal with the non-flat frequency response of headphones, but do someone know if they have chosen diffuse field or free field correction ?
This post might seem a detail but the issue can be very important for the accurate localisation and the coloration? of 3D sounds with headphones.
Thank you, and please forgive my english!

The only possibility that I can think of is that 2/2. mode is NOT as simple as headphone mode with crosstalk cancelation. Perhaps the HRTF only kicks in for sound sources outside of the arc directly in front of the listener. If that were the case, you wouldn't percei've any distortion for sound sources in front of you.
Also, you are wrong regarding DirectSound3D. Keep in mind that Direct3D and DirectSound3D are not the same. The whole point of OpenAL and DirectSound3D is that they present an API to the programmer through which there is NO specification of the number of speakers. When using OpenAL or DirectSound3D, the only thing a programmer can do is specify the location of a mono sound source in 3D space relati've to the listener. The speaker settings for your DirectSound3D or OpenAL device will then determine how this sound is "rendered" by the soundcard. It is not under control of the game. For example, if you have 5. speakers and the 3D position is behind you, the SOUND CARD will make the decision to use the rear speakers. If you use headphones, the SOUND CARD will decide to apply an HRTF to create the illusion of a rear sound source. The point is that the game does not have control over how many speakers you will get sound from.
However, to further complicate the situation, there are SOME games (HL2 is an example) where DirectSound3D is used, BUT the sound output of the game itself IS a function of the Windows speaker settings. This is not how programmers are SUPPOSED to use DirectSound3D. I've written about this countless times. There is a good post on [H]ard|Forum about this. Do an "advanced" search with my username (thomase) looking for the terms "hl2" and "cmss".

I think it has to do with the fact that I cannot get it to install the creative audio console because the installation program gets rid of the setup files in the temp folder before it can use them and prompts me to find layout.bin in the AudCon folder in my temp folder that has been erased. I can see it be created, but cannot catch it before it is deleted. This is the same problem that has been plaguing Creative's drivers for vista for a very long time now. I have to use the work around to get the drivers and the Console Launcher to install, but cannot get it in time for the Audio Console to install. I can't believe Creative has not addressed this issue!
Can someone provide me with the unpacked files or a working installer please I wish creative could int he first place......

    New info:
I just got the 2_5_0006 drivers on which installed the audio console just fine and I still h ave no CMSS 3d!

  • No Sound From Rear Speakers unless CMSS-3D is on XFI Elite Pro

    Hello Guys,
I have always had issues with my rear sound and nothing has changed. I am begining to think my sound card is broken. I bought this refurbed or open boxed directly from creative so maybe this is the reason? I want all the speakers to sound the same and even if I enable the CMSS3D they do not sound like the front ones. It seems distorted and not as clear and the volume is lower. Any ideas?

    Hello,
I am running into the same problem. I had a audigy and the sound test would not output sound to the rear or center speakers. I then tried an x-fi card - same problem.
I also tried a different set of speakers... I am pulling my hair out here. This used to work great, can't figure it out. When I run through the speaker test with the x-fi, I hear everything coming out of the front two speakers. It says "rear right" out of the front right speaker. It also says "front right" out of that same speaker.

  • Sound only plays in Front left speak on Windows 7 with Xfi Extreme Music??

I have Xfi Extreme Music (SB0640). In installed the lastes drivers for windows 7 (<a rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.creative.com/t5/forums/postpage/board-id/#]Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series driver 2.8.003 [/url]), When I run a speaker test all 6 speakers work, however when I use media player, media center etc. Only the front left speaker works.
Do I need to install creative Alchemy?
Console Launchers does not load on boot
    Any asistance will be appreciated
    Thanks in advance

NRe: Sound only plays in Front left speak on Windows 7 with Xfi Extreme Music? You will need to have the Creative Console Launcher which will let you have CMSS-3d or Creative Multichannel Surround Sound. You can find the newest version for your card here......

Honestly though, dont bother with just that. Get Daniel K.'s X-FI support pack which is updated with the newest drivers and applications for your card. Plus, he tweaked those with fixes for installation/integration? under operating systems other than XP.
    That can be found here.......
