Xfinity webmail - SPAM

I have been a Comcast subscriber, using their internet since 2000. As each year passes, I become more and more disenchanted with the level of service provided by this company. My pet peeve is receiving spam on a daily basis. It doesn't matter if you mark something spam because the spam filter doesn't work. There are things that I see weekly in my mailbox that i have listed as spam about 1000 times and yet it still comes through.
What is the purpose of having the option if it isn't going to work. Moreover...the spammers are getting craftier in that they are putting characters in front of the name. I have tried creating filters to weed this out, but they still get through with no problem.
Comast has billions of dollars at their disposal. It would be nice if someone overseeing the IT part of the company would migrate the email service to another client capable of meeting a customer's needs. The mail client has remained essentially the same for god knows how long. If anyone has figured out, what comcast can't seem to....please let me know.

Ummmm- don't you think I would have tried that? The filter diesn't work. I have lots of email addresses in there but the spam still comes in.<br>The point of my rant is that comcast doesn't give a poo. It's an inferior product that hasn't been updated in forever. If you mark something as SPAM, it should never come through unless you un-spam it.

  • Email SPAM filter doesn't work

Is the webmail SPAM filter supposed to ... like ... prevent SPAM? I get the same SPAM every day. The SPAM button does nothing,

I have been marking about 30 per day as spam and forwarding all of them to the address that Verizon says is for undetected spam. The spam I get is all from the same outfit, I believe, based on the uniformity of how they package their notes and the fact that all of the links are spoofed.  One would think that after 30 a day for several months, somebody in Verizon would wake up to the fact that Verizon users are getting killed with spam. One would think that if they truly cared about our email experience they would have an army of folks jumping on the spam we forward to them, aggressively pursuing it and working to reduce it.  The fact is that they show no evidence of putting forth ANY effort at making our experience better.
The fact seems to be that they have little concern for their email users.  The more of us that stick with Verizon for our home internet service, paying them their monthly fee, but jump to other, better email providers merely means less work for them.  Not a bad model for making maximum profit, but a sucky way to treat customers.
My Verizon Wireless service has been fantastic.  But my Verizon phone/internet service sucks.  I'm just waiting until another provider is available in my area so I can leave Verizon forever.  Lousy support, uncaring employees.  I send in notes to them and get zero response.  Look at the complaints in these forums that continue to rack up. Almost no response from the company.  We're all left to try to deal with our problems ourselves with only minimal support.  Probably some intern that spends his/her shift playing Angry Birds.

  • Webmail email list

There is a spammy advert in my email list at the top which keeps being replaced by more spam - how do I remove it?
Spam is not appreciated in emails nor is it appreciated displaying at the top of the email list.
Also how do I sort by sender ?
There seems to be only the default sort by date. Is this correct - there is no alternative of Sort by?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for offering assistance3,  but that link was a long conversation that had no answer on removal, so having dome some searching I located the answer.
The only way is to go back to the old version which is far better.
click on 'Sort by date' to get drop down.
    click on 'More settings'
    Select: 'Viewing email'
    Under 'Mail Version' select 'Basic'
    click on 'Save'
    This removes:
Today, yesterday, last week etc. headings
Removes the spammy advert shown at top of email list as if it were trying to pretend to be the newest unread email.
I've also got the Sort by sorted.
To be honest, the webmail is not very good. So it is best to keep it very basic.
I choose to use Thunderbird email client, but every once in a while I check that the webmail Spam folder and other emails have been correctly deleted.

  • No keyboard for webmail reply

When I try to reply to a webmail, no keyboard comes up. I see several similar threads but no answers.

If you are using Comcast Xfinity webmail this will ocurr if your webmail preferences are set for HTML composing. Actually any webmail I think. If you change your webmail preferences to compose using plain text, the keyboard should pop up and allow text input.

  • Error downloading messages - wont download

    Hi
In short, TBird (24.5) stopped downloading messages sometime between 321PM Friday, 2 MAY 14 and 522pm Friday, 2 MAT 14. Those messages are now backing up with my ISP.
I use Frontier Communications as my primary ISP and primary email. They used to be strictly POP for email but are now some type of hybrid with their relationship with Yahoo Mail. That 'merger' happened quite awhile ago and I do not believe it has any bearing on this issue. I continue to use POP to download my messages. Also, technically I am connecting thru a Comcast account at this location, but have been doing that for quiet some time as well with no issues.
I did contact my ISP tech support (Frontier) 1 week ago and we went thru all their suggestions to adjust and/or test my TBird settings with no luck. They were at a loss.
So I am currently using TBird 24.5. I upgraded to that one on ~29 APR 14 and had no issues downloading until four days later. I have been using TBird since maybe ~16.0 or 17.0.
I currently get the following error when trying to download messages:
The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop3.frontier.com responded: [SYS/TEMP] problem retrieving message.
To me, this error message seems to indicate a problem with Frontiers server's, not TBird, but I am trying anything at this point. And if I can rule out TBird having an issue then maybe I can go back to my ISP with more knowledge.
This is all occuring in the Windows 7 (64bit) environment.
I have read several threads around the community with no luck. I tried moving the first unread message in my webmail (the one that did not download at 520pm 2 MAY) with no effect. I also tried the recreation of the .msf Inbox file with no effect.

    I fixed the problem!
After reading back thru several forum chains I came across several ideas - most did nothing. But then one worked!
Ok so to summarize, if you are receiving the error message:
The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop3.frontier.com responded: [SYS/TEMP] problem retrieving message. (NOTE: the server name could be any server I presume)
    Assumed Cause:
Then what appears to have caused it is that my ISP (who now uses yahoo mail services [this may very well be a yahoo mail server issue as the source I used also mentioned yahoo]) thought I had received a spam message. (When going online to my ISP's webmail I could see all my message, plus three in spam.) It turns out that the oldest message in spam seems to have caused a hang up in downloading all subsequent messages. I guess that the spam folder is part(?) of the Inbox folder or somehow related. Maybe a subfolder mirror?
    Solution:
1 - I created a folder in my ISPs webmail called TEST (any name should work).
2 - I then used the webmail's MOVE command to move the three messages in the webmail spam folder into the new webmail TEST folder.
3 - I then tested TBird on my system using it normally and everything downloaded! :)
3a - Strangely, somehow in this process two of the three messages that were in the webmail spam folder that I had transfered into the new webmail TEST folder... disappeared... not sure where.. maybe they downloaded or who knows. The oldest message remained though.
4 - I then copied the message from TEST back into webmail Inbox.
5 - I then tested TBird again and guess what? Got the RETR error again and download would not occur.
6 - So then I deleted that offending message from webmail permanently and now TBird appears to be working just fine.
    Other thoughts:
1 - Interestingly, none of the messages in the webmail spam folder were actually spam. Yahoo settings may be too sensitive. I will investigate and see if I can access and/or adjust them for the future.
2 - The email in question may have had some corruption as I could not even open it in webmail.
3 - Also, it had attachments which may or may not have affected the situation. *shrug*
Well I hope this discussion and solution help anyone else dealing with the RETR error.

  • Non Delivery of emails

I have a most unusual problem.  I have two BT internet email address in my Thunderbird (latest version).  When I send an email using Number 1 to a particular recipients, he does not receive it.  When I send it using email Number 2, he does.  I use exactly the same email address to send the messages to him (using the Thunderbird contacts).
The recipient tells me that he has checked in his webmail spam folder and my email using Number 1 email address is NOT there.
I have a similar problem with a gmail recipient.
Can anyone help me with this?<script src="chrome://piccshare/content/piccshare-min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

I don't know why it's happening, but there's an easy workaround. In Account Settings > Outgoing server (SMTP) select the account that works and set it as default. Then select the account that doesn't work and select 'Use default server' in the SMTP dropdown list.

    Here is what it says:
Reason: Rejection greeting returned by server.
Diagnostic code: smtp;554-m1pismtp01-011.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means.

If you have any thoughts or advice, please speak slowly and give me point-by-point instructions as I barely know what a server is.

  • BC webmail and Spam

My client doesn't seem to have anything in the Spam Settings folder......when you click on the folder on the LHS under settings the screen comes up blank. I have just created a new email account with all of the same settings and when I log in it's there.....but when I login to the other webmail accounts there's nothing there.
Very strange! They need to access which folder their spam is being sent to and that options just isn't available?
    Can anyone help.
    Cheers
    Dani

I can't replicate that issue. Please try a different browser if you haven't done so. This is what I see:

  • 50%+ Webmail & Outlook Sent messages blocked as spam in last week. HELP!!!

I'm having many of my Outlook and Web mail messages blocked as spam. More than 50% of  Message contents on web page says:
    Unable to Send Message.
Unable to send e-mail: 550 5.7.1 The message you attempted to sedn was determined to be spam.  Please visit http://www.verizon.net/spamfaq for more information.
Comtents of my message included two web site links.  Title of message = Wide Clics

Here are web pages for Clic readers that might be useful.

Why is the above considered spam?
I have tried changing port to 587 and have finally been able to send info to the spam web page.  Hopefully they can correct this soon.  I never had this problem with Comcast.  Hope to resolve ASAP or will be canceling all my server with verizon.  Thanks for any suggestion!

The best way to resolve this issue is to send the message as an attachment to [email protected] so the message an be reviewed and the filters updated. Unfortunately, you won't get a response back about the status/result of this process. The filter is scanning the content of your message for anything that "looks" like spam.
Some troubleshooting steps you can try on your own:
If you have a signature, try removing one line at a time from it and attempting to send the message again. Some signatures look like "ads" to the filters, apparently.
If you are using a pop3 client (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) try sending your message from the verizon.net website. If this resolves the issue, then it is something that your client is adding to the message that is causing it to be blocked.
If the Subject line of your message has a whole bunch of "Fwd: Fwd: Re: Fwd:" try removing some of them.
If a forum member gives an answer you like, give them the Kudos they deserve. If a member gives you the answer to your question, mark the answer as Accepted Solution so others can see the solution to the problem.

  • Webmail Vacation Rule - Mass spam

We have seen this issue several times now if one of our users enables an existing vacation rule (created in the client) in webmail it will go through and send an email to several (if not hundreds/thousands) of people they have corresponded with within the last month or so. These are not new conversations that are coming in. I can't pinpoint exactly how far back it goes. When we get notified we go in and remove the rule in web access and retract at least all of the internal emails that have gone out. Has anyone else seen this issue before? Is there a way to disable enabling rules in webmail till this gets addressed? Seems if they enable the rule in the client it works properly.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

    Hi Nathan,
Unfortunately this has been reported before. I believe, but stand to be corrected, this happens when the customer clicks on the "Run" button. I'm not sure if there is a fix for this, but it might be worth contacting Novell Technical Support.
Let us know how it goes.
    Cheers,

  • Existance of Junk/Spam folder while using dot mac webmail

I know that the mail app has it's own junk mail folder. Does the webmail side also have a junk mail folder?? Yahoo, for example, has a bulk (junk) mail folder. I basically on use my .mac email address via the webmail interface and just do not see a reference to the existance of such a thing.

    David,
    Thanks for pointing that out.
The Mail boxes that I listed in my previous post came directly from my .Mac web page.
I have never noticed that choice in the Mail preferences, perhaps because I have never received a junk mail from my .Mac account. I use another account for my public e-mail address.
I checked the "Store junk messages on the server," but since I have no junk messages the folder is not created on .Mac. The folder will probably only be created on .Mac if I get a junk message.
    ;~)

  • How can I get spam mail sent straight to trash on my iPad and iPhone.  Have managed to set rules on my iMac but not the rest.

How can I set up rules to get spam emails sent straight to my trash when I am using an iPhone4S or iPad3?  Have managed to do this on my iMac but can't see a way to do it on the other devices.  Getting about 50 a day recently using my email address but not my name in the messages - no idea why this has started but it is annoying!!

You cannot set rules on the iPad or the iPhone for mail. The only thing that you can do is to filter spam mail in your webmail settings using a web browser. The rules that set up in the mail app on the Mac do not sync across devices, those are rules for inside the mail client itself on the Mac.
