XI Administration in RWB

Hi Everyone,
What does Adapter Engine, Business Process Engine, Integration engine does exactly in Integration Server and as from the basis/administration part what sholud be monitored.
What will be the process it follows(IE, BPE,Adapter engine) when a message enters the Xi system from an application and  business system.

The Adapter Engine is used to connect the Integration Engine to SAP systems and external systems. You use the various adapters in the Adapter Engine to convert XML- and HTTP-based messages to the specific protocol and format required by these systems, and the other way around.

The Integration Engine process the XML messages exchanged between applications in heterogeneous system landscapes. Both applications of SAP components and external applications can communicate with the Integration Engine. Using adapters, the Integration Engine can also process IDocs (Intermediate Documents) and RFCs (Remote Function Calls).
