XI Archiving: Restarting a terminated archived job.

Hi All,
Due to some constraints, our PI server (devt) has only 9.5 GB of disk space for the archive directory. We have 300,000 messages that is flagged for archiving and it seems that the archiving job will terminate with a dataset_write_error which we assume is caused because there is not enough disk space in the archive folders.
After moving the previous archive files out of the directory to reclaim the disk space, we restarted the archive job. Will restarting the archive job allow the archive job to pick up from where it was terminated or will it "restart" from beginning?
Anyone experienced something similar before?

Dear Lugman,
the behaviour of the new archiving job depends on the configuration of archiving object BC_XMB (transaction AOBJ). If the option "Do Not Before End of Write Phase" is set (default), then the next archiving job will start from the very beginning. In this case all archive file written by the previous job can be deleted. If the option is de-selected the new archiving job will start with the last archiving file. All files that were written sucessfully before the error ocurred are safe.
In general you might also want to increase the retention period temporarily. This way you reduce the number of messages to be archived in one single blow and you have better control on the data volume that is written to file.

  • Archive routing in SAP archiving

Has anyone used Archive routing? I keep getting error message  "No suitable content repository / logical file name found". but I know that logical file name has been defined properly, so as variant. Any idea?

    Hello again,
I think you will need to provide more information as there is some type of inconsistency between what you have configured for archive routing (rules and conditions) and the selection criteria in the write job variant.
Out in the SAP Help Portal, it states:
When entering the selection criteria in the variant it is important to make sure that the set of data covered by the selection criteria of the variant falls AT LEAST into the set of data covered by the rules (it does not have to be exactly the same, but at least a subset). If this is not the case, the archiving session is terminated before the write job begins.

  • ERROR MESSAGE sap system manager:work process restarted, session terminated

    Hi,
i am a beginer in SAP administration, users are getting this error message and i have done all my research and not able to resolve this issue. Here are the details
    SAP Version :ideas 4.7
    Database :Oracle
    OS : windows 2003
Module user is working on MM
user working on it is a Super user with all the permissions
SAP is configure to run under the  European date and decimal format.
I have never done any database administration on it, it is a new install and has been rarely used.
User creates a RFQ and when he tries saving it , seems like for the first time after either restarting the macine or restarting the service it might work and at time it might not, this is a very sporadic error and most of the times it crashes out with the message "sap system manager:work process restarted, session terminated" and kicks the user out of the session.
Below are the details of the error message from ST22 :
name of the runtime error : system_core_dumped
below are the details of the error message and its resoltion as suggested by sap help :

                                                                                    Possible reasons for this are:
    1. Internal SAP System error.
    2. Process was terminated externally (by the system administrator).

  • ARchiving FI_MONTHY, FS10N is archived even when FBL3N still has open items

    i All,
I'm trying to archive GL Account Master Data. I understand that we need to archive FI_DOCUMNT to archive all cleared document, and then FI_MONTHLY for the transaction figures and last one is FI_ACCOUNT to archive gl accounts master data.
    My questions are:
    1. What is the reason SAP does not allow us to choose GL account to archive in FI_MONTHLY?
    2. Why FI_MONTHLY archives transaction figures in FS10N, even though there is still open item in FBL3N?
    3. In my sample of GL accounts, even though FI_DOCUMNT and FI_MONTHLY have been archived and no data in that particular GL Account, FI_ACCOUNT can not find the account i want to archive. Is there any other thing i need to set before archiving the GL? I can only mark the "marked for deletion" in the gl at company code level, because it is still being used in other company code.
Thanks a lot for the advice.
    CW

    Hi Ce Wie,
People need to run archiving on periodic basis, basically to improve system performance. Archiving means removing data from SA data base to Archiving server or other device that can be access later on for example accounting document.
SAP recommend to archive the document via * Archiving OBject* such as FI_DOCUMNT. Those data removed from Database but to support audit requirement, it can be accessed if necessary.
SAP do not recommend to archive Master Data as long the Master data are still need in transactions. Should there is any unused master data or master data errorly created, what you can do is setting block or set deletion flag indicator. Please see SAP note 77670 for more detail.

  • Archive and print and archive buttons not active

I create a smartform and join it in sap. It is transection me9a.
The problem when I run the program comes printpreview. There are two button that "Archive" and "Print and Archive". But they are not active. I wan to use them. What sould I do?

Pass the below parameter to smartform function module,
    Ex,
    EXPORTING
                    control_parameters = control_param
                    output_options     = output_opt
    Check the below structure:
    data:  control_param    type ssfctrlop,
             output_opt       type ssfcompop.
      control_param-no_dialog = 'X'.
          control_param-preview = 'X'.
          control_param-getotf = ''.
          output_opt-tddest = 'LOCL'.
          output_opt-tdnoprint = 'X'.
Similarly chack the other structure <b>ssfctrlop</b>
Just a rough idea given above.
Close the thread if your question is answered.

  • Archiving Change Documents - XML Archiving.

    Hello Archiving experts,
I need to archive change documents of my application. There is already a change document archiving class "CHGDOCU" which I can use for this. But this is only for ADK based approach.
Basically, I want to know if there is any Archiving class available for archiving change documents in XML based archiving?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best Regards,
    Pramod

    Hi Thomas,
if you want to go with SARA, you would have to archive hundreds of objects, since change documents are (as of 4.5B, I think) no longer deleted/archived by themselves, but always with their respective objects.
You can easily check that for yourself: in transaction DB15 click on the radio-button 'Archiving Objects' --> Objects for Table --> CDCLS (you can only view the cluster, not it's components). You will get a list of all archiving objects that 'contain' change documents.
That leaves you the option to find out, to which object most of your 500 mio. change document positions belong, but my guess would be that this would be quite a lot ... so either, you are considering an overall archiving project (which is no short-term goal) or you use one of the reports that make a 'hard-cleanup' of CDCLS --> there are various notes in OSS about that topic, make sure you read them all, since the impact is not to be necglected.
As for the artice in question, you may not need it ... there are 33 hits for object CHANGEDOCU in OSS - I think you can get all the information you need there, however - if you want to use this object, please keep in mind that you are cutting the connection between the business object and the changedocu - like described in note 1325862.

  • ASCII format archives Vs Binary format archives

Hi, I need to know what is the difference between ASCII format archives and Binary format archives, and how can I create each one. Because in this moment I have created a bynary archive with output.format(), but i need the ascii format, so help me please.

If you mean jar archives they are multiple files compressed into a single JAR archive file. jar is a general-purpose archiving and compression tool, based on ZIP and the ZLIB compression format., ie it is in binary format.
When you create a jar you can -0 to store the files without compression, if that's what you mean.
ascii is an acronym for american standard code for information interchange AFAIK, and that is a seven bit character.
hope that helps. I'm not sure I understand the question correctly, pardon me if I didn't

  • Restarting an aborted background job in CC

One of our CC Static Text Upload daily jobs is showing as being in a current state of 'abort'.  I'm not sure how it got that way as I did not abort it.  I can only assume it ran into a problem when it last tried to run, maybe while server maintenance was being done and the SAP Adaptor was turned off.
Anyway, need to know how to restart this job and get it running again on schedule.  I tried doing a 'disable' and then 'enable', but it still shows as 'abort' and is not running.
We are using GRC 5.2 SP14.
    Thanks.

    Hi Bob,
Normally you get "Abort" message when J2ee engine stops.
Server restart will stop all jobs currently running and will not be effect any of your jobs that were scheduled to run in future.
To get the aborted job re-run, just reschedule it again with "Immediate" option.

  • Archived files missed after deletion job

    Hi All,
We are generally doing the techinical archiving for some objects in ECC 6. Here for one object, write job & delete job is finished. but any how, archived file is missed before store job. There was some hardware failure.
Now, we have get them restored from backup but i am not able to access the restored files from tcode SARA to store them in our storage server. It is still showing the files as failed in Store job archive file selection screen.
I need to store those files in our storage server but archive file is not accessible from file system.
Now, please let me know, what should i do in this case.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I do a little bit of Archiving using SARA, but not any expert
We had such situations when the file was deleted from OS level while Archiving run was in progress at SARA.
What we do in such situation is to disable the existing Run in "SARA" -> Put in Archiving Object name --> click Management, click on the failed Run and "Mark it for deletion".
Start a new run for the same Archiving object, Keep the variant same ( I mean keep the selection dates same as earlier run) and start all over again with Write, delete, store etc.
I dont know how much it helps
Might be different from the scenario you might have on hand.

  • Setting up archive delete functionalities using background job

    Hi,
Through SARA transaction there we can set up a archive delete job by selecting the files, job timing details. Instead of this, we want to set up this functionality using a background job as per the variant and timing requirements.
Is there any option to set up a background job of archive delete functionality by selecting the files through a program or function moduel. Please suggest me if anyone has done this in previous.
    Thanks,
    Siva

    Hello,
Take a look at OSS note 205585 which describes how to schedule archive delete jobs indirectly using program RSARCHD.
    Hope this helps.

  • Archive data of using DART : Job lock problem in table TSP01

    Hi ,
I'm facing problem while archiving from Production system to UNIX using DART.
Using TC: FTW1A to data extract, once data has extracted, we need to do verifaction progess through TC. FTWE1(run a BG jobRTXWCHK4) and FTWD(BG Job RTXWCHK2).
When I am running TC: FTWD(BG Job RTXWCHK2)to verify, it was holding an extensive lock on the TSP01 table for long period of time which blocking others processing with this table, So We need to terminate this job. For the time being solution is to run this job during weekends. But I want solution for this.
Is any boby can help me in this problem?
    Regards,
    Nupur S Jaipuriyar

Locking a row that does not exist can be difficult.
On most database you can lock an entire table through "LOCK TABLE <table>", however this may be extreme. Potentially you could also insert an empty row into the table with the id that you want to lock, then you would have a write lock on the row until you commit the transaction.
