XI configurator authorizaton without communication channels

I have a customer that would like to give full access to the Integration Directory for XI developers with one exception: prevent access to the communication channels. Is this possible using authorization roles/profiles?
Thank you,
Harold

No.
I believe SAP_XI_CONFIGURATOR is the role for the entire Integration Directory.

• How To Configure XI Receiver Communication Channel ?

Hi Expert,
I have a Scenario wherein i have 2 XI systems & i need to pass the messages between these 2 XI / PI system using XI Adapter. Can any body tell me how to configure the XI Adapter Step by Step. Is it required to Create the SM59 RFC destination with type H. Pl. Explain me in detailed.
Regards
Umesh

Hi Umesh,
In creating XI receover communication channel, you have 2 options for Addressing Type:
1. URL Address - no need to create RFC destination. You just have to specify the XI receiver host name, HTTP port, path (/sap/xi/engine?type=receiver), Authentication data (logon details for SAP Client number of the PI system).
2. HTTP Destination - create RFC destination in SXMB_ADM and specify the RFC destination name in your receiver communication channel.
For SAP documentation, see this link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/e1/091640a991c742e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
Hope this helps.

• Dynamic Configuration of Mail receiver Communication Channel

Hi,
like in /people/william.li/blog/2006/04/18/dynamic-configuration-of-some-communication-channel-parameters-using-message-mapping for http receiver CC, i am trying to do header customisation, with XHeaderName1 for mail header fields like content-type, content-disposition, but it doesn't works ...
in my mapping i've added :
> (...)
> DynamicConfigurationKey cDisposition = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http:/""/sap.com/xi/XI/System/Mail", "XHeaderName1");+
> dynaConf.put(cDisposition, "attachment;filename=myFile.txt");
in Communication Channel ASMA i've added variable header : XHeaderName1 --> Content-Disposition
in monitoring i see that XHeaderName1 is filled with attachment;filename=myFile.txt
but in the mail send like this, this configuration has no effect
Someone can help me ?

Only one standard mail header field can be influenced: this is indeed "Content-Disposition".
You have done halve way, the only thing you have missed is to set the additional parameter 'OMail.AddContentDisposition' to false within 'Advanced Mode'.
Have a look at this WiKi:

• Dynamic Configuration for two file adapters communication channels

Hello Experts!!!!!!
In one of the interface in my landscape, I am using two file adapters for creating two files with different names and at two different destination on F.T.P.
However the receiver service for both the communication channel are same.
In message mapping I am using multi mapping to create two files out a single message.
Now i have a requirement of changing file path and file name using dynamic configuration for both the comm channel.
When i doing dynamic coniguration for both the comm. channel. My interface is creating two files but with same name and on same destination which is set for second communication channel through dynamic configuration.
Here, I guess the second dynamic configuration is over writing the first dynamic configuration and hence creating two files with same name and at same destination.
Please suggest, if separate dynamic configuration for separate communication channel of same receiver service can be done?
Thanks & Regards,
Amol

Thanks for your prompt responses!!!!!
Is there any way, By which in dynamic configuration I can find out the communication channel name and then change its parameter.
I mean if iam using say comm. channel A and B.
Then in dynamic configuration for A, I will first take communication channel A by calling it and then change its path/file name.
and then do samething for comm. channel B in its dynamic conf.

Amol

• Deriving file path in communication channel depending on environment

We have received this request:
======begin request======
As you know transporting communication channels is a tedious affair
that consists of exporting and importing objects, manual steps to
modify the communication channel for the target system and then
activation. The process of manual modification of the communication
channel after it has been transported is particularly subject to human
error.
Could you please investigate using dynamic/logical names for such
things as:
Directory names
Filenames
Any thing else that can be derived dynamically, or set logically.
======end request======
An example would be a directory path in a file adapter:
in dev: <drive>/dev
in prod: <drive>/prd
We don't want to reconfigure the channel on transport. Value mapping
is not an alternative as we would have to maintain a table anyway and
use a custom function to derive. Dynamic Configuration in a map
requires a custom function and lack of flexibility. Adapter Specific
Message Attributes don't really help.
Is there some way environment variables can be accessed and configured in a communication channel?

Hey Dave,
reconfiguring Adapters after Integration Directory objects transport is a necessary step, since the addresses/ports of production environments will almost always be different.
Nevertheless, you will need to manually reinsert the path information in Prod File adapter, and there you could use "prod" instead of "dev".
A possible workaround to make it a little more "automatic" would be to refer to the Business System name in the File path, using variable substitution. In this case, for example, use the variable "dir" in the variable substitution table, refering to the property "message:receiver_service" (without quotes), and in the path field, use something like "/%dir/" (also, without quotes).

Henrique.

• Sender Communication Channel for Integration Scenario IDoc - XI - IDoc?

Hello All,
One general question. I have to configure an IDoc - XI - IDoc Scenario. For this Scenario I have to configure an Receiver Communication Channel (IDoc Adapter) to the Backend System but what about Sending Communication Channel for the Sending R/3 system.
Is the (IDoc) Communication Channel from Sending system to XI required to configured?
Many thanks in advanced!
Jochen

Hi Jochen,
for sending IDOCs from SAP to XI, sender IDOC adapter is not required. when XI will send the IDOC to a SAP system, then receiver IDOC adapter is needed.
Thanks,

• JMS sender communication channel content conversion

Hi,
I struck with the content conversion in the JMS Sender communication channel.
I have configured the communication channel with the filed fixed lengths. (Simple type)
The field fixed lengths i have given are 10,2,3,11
The contents in the file 1000000072 230 111
but, in the input xml after conversion iam getting 100000007 in the first field and 2 in the second field 23 in the third field.
I have configured the sender communication channel as in the document in SDN.
Even, i configured several communication channels. I didn't get this strange error any time.
I have gone through SDN to fix this issue, but i didn't get solution.
If anyone got rectified this kind of error, please answer your solution to me
Thanking you,
Regards,
Krishnaraju.

Hi,
Thanks for all your support. The issue got resolved.
The issue is due to the file, In the file the special characters are appearing. We are not able to see these characters in the notepad, wordpad, text editor.
But, these characters are appearing in th syn text editor. So, we removed those characters and processessed the file. Now, it is successfull.

• Regd Sender Communication channel

Hi all,
I have configured a sender communication channel for picking a file. Everything looks fine to me, but the file is not getting picked up.
I checked in RWB for channel, channel is configured fine.its says processing started, and processing finished successfully. No message ID is showing. But the file is not getting picked from the location.
In moni , no messages to display.
can you suggest how to trace out the possible error? the path and file names are perfect, check it number of times.

Hi Anika,
in sender file comm channel, set the processing mode to delete and activate it.............
then in source file system, ask the file system guys to check the file permissions of the source file........it should have read, write, execute for others............
then your source file should be picked.........if still your source file is not getting picked, then ask your basis guys to do a full CPACache refresh using PIDIRUSER and then re-run your scenario......

• Problem with Sender File Content Conversion Communication Channel

Hi All,
I am using XI 3.0--SP 16.
I have configured a Sender communication channel with File Content Converison which takes up a Fixed length text file and converts to XML.
My scenario is that I have some 'n' files, out of which one file has error in content conversion.
In a normal scenario I would expect other files to get processed, but they are not.
I can correct the error or even discard the error file. But I am unable to understand why XI is not processing the rest of the good files.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.,
Sudharshan

Hi,
@Renjith
The QOS is EO, thats why I am wondering why it is not picking the rest of the good ones

• Communication channel Availability

Hi All,
I am having a File to File scenario wherein there is no mapping involved. You can say as good as using a FTP.I am using XI in this scenario purely because of client requirement.
Problem Statement :
I need to pick up the source file from a particular folder and send it to target folder at a paticular time say 8:00 am daily.
Steps taken:
To take in this requirement, I have configured the Sender communication channel (Type File) availability to 8:00am - 8:15am daily. This was done by going to RWB>CC Monitoring>Control data(Automatic)
Settings :
Details Tab:
1)Description: Just any characters here
2)Active: Checked
3)Availability Time - Daily
At (Time):8.00 For (Duration): 15 Minutes
Series Start: Start Date Series End: End Date
Availability Times From : -same as above-
Communication channel Tab:
Communication Channel:<Sender Communication channel Name>
All above config is saved.
Problem encountered:
Now when I do the above steps, XI does take not only the file from source for 8-8:15 duration but also outside it. So file which comes in source folder after 8:15 am say at 9:00 is also picked up by XI, which ideally should not be the case.
My Query :
Am I going wrong somewhere while configuring the availability of Comm channel?
Regards,
Shiben

Hi Shiben,
Could you please check the Control Data state of Communication channel, it should be Automatically (not Manually)
● Manual
You control the communication channel by choosing Start or Stop.
● Automatic
The communication channel is controlled by availability times.
● External
The communication channel is controlled by an HTTP request.

• SOAP communication channel

Hi,
I am configuring sender SOAP communication channel. I see only "CENTRAL ADAPTER ENGINE" in the Adapter engine type. I do not see any INTEGRATION SERVER in the drop down option.
Kindly help.

Hi,
Why do you need INTEGRATION SERVER in the drop down option??
you have to select the Adapter Engine, Transport Protocol and Message Protocol.
In the Adapter Engine you need to select the CENTRAL ADAPTER ENGINE . This is since you have only one adapter engine. If there is any local AE, and it is correctly installed, then it will also appear in the drop down.
But INTEGRATION SERVER, which you are askin never appears!!
Please explain if u need further clarifications.
Cheers,
Souvik

• ALERT MAIL FOR FILE ADAPTER COMMUNICATION CHANNEL ERRORS

Hi,
I need to send an alert by mail to a list of configured receivers if any error( Application as wel as System Errors ) occurs in the FILE ADAPTER Communication Channel .
Please suggest how to do it......
Regards,
Sriparna

Can anything be configured in the communication channel to run a mail unix script if the communication channel is throwing
error.Other than alert rule can we configure this.
Why do you intend to use script? Define Alert....create Rule....set parameters using SCOT.....you will get the alert as email (if you need it)
Can you please help with how do I create this rule specific to File Adapters only ?
Other than selecting FILE as Adapter Type in RWB --> Alert Rule definition we dont do anything special....this setting should help.
Regards,
Abhishek.

• Dynamic configuration of receiver communicaton channel?

I have files, Header line tells which server it should go.(Like ip address and port). How can dinamically configure the receiver communication channel.
Thank You
Ganges Leaves

Hi,
I have very similar requirement, In my scenario I need to pick up files from 4 static locations and based on the file name and pick up type(file/ftp) I can find out the destination's connectivity information from a Cross-Referencing table(Based on MS-SQL Database table- I can get this using look API) in this table we maintaining more than 100 destinations(host/user_name/password etc).
Now I need to set the connectivity information dynamically at runtime. I know this is not possible with Standard XI but does anyone thinks this is possible by any technical way using with XI.. Adapter Modules or Java Proxies?
This is very Critical to win the war with other middleware tools. Please let me know your thoughts and comments...

• Config-time substitution of Communication Channel values

I apologize in advance if this is explained elsewhere (or it's so blindingly obvious that nobody has asked). I promise I looked.
NW04 SP17
Is there a way to do parameter substitution on values defined in a communication channel template, based on the business system that the channel is going to be assigned to at config time?
In case I got the terminology wrong, here's what I want to do. I have some CC templates defined for some SOAP services. In the template definition, I can add Target URL and SOAP Action attributes and assign a value to them that will be available on the config side later on. I want to use this template against a number of technical systems, each of which is going to have a different host portion of the Target URL.
What I would like to have is a way for the CC template to have a 'generic' hostname that is substituted for at config time by the actual hostname of the business system that the channel is going to connect to.
Is there a way to do that? Or is that a stupid question?

Hi Michael,
I think there is a way to do this, depending on the XI SP level.
You might reference the following weblog, which uses the HTTP adapter as an example:
/people/william.li/blog/2006/04/18/dynamic-configuration-of-some-communication-channel-parameters-using-message-mapping
Then, in SAP Help, for JMS receiver config:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/29/5bd93f130f9215e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
Look under "Adapter-Specific Message Attributes" for JMS-specific parameters.

Bill
