XI for new data conversion?

Hello experts,
You recommendations please on data conversion with XI versus using the LSMW tool?
We are working on a new implementation, planning to use XI for the interfaces anyway. Now the idea is to use XI for all dataconversion from the legacy systems.
Good idea, not suitable, better to use LSMW?
Your thoughts please!
Many thanks,
Albert

Hi again.
The response to this question cannot be a general answer, because it depends on several aspects. I'll try to order by importance.
1 - What kind of files do you have for material and BOM creation? XML files?
XI is a powerfull tool for transfer that kind of files. With an ABAP proxy, you can easily decompose a XML file into a strucuture in ABAP, so it's easy to import files. To send, is also easy. You fill a structure and XI will convert it to a XML file and sent to the respective receiver, using it's communication channel. So, if it's XML, I would say YES, use XI. If not, XI only can copy those flat files and that way it's not easy to get it's data in a proxy. You can copy those file to a directory and import files with a program, but, if so, why using XI for your purpose? Or you can do some mappings to convert flat file into XML file ... the mapping can be easy or very difficult.
2 - Experience in XI or LSMW? And Urgence?
This question is important. If you have experience in one of those tools, you should use it. As far as I can catch from your post, XI is a new tool for you, right? To master XI is a process that will take you some time ... not too much ... but consider this part too in your decision. However, since you will start using XI for interfaces, this could be a good start!
3 - Many other reasons can be found in the link that Murthy provided, but this two should be the most important (in my opinion).
Hope this helps.

Valter Oliveira.

  • Period is locked for new data

    Good Morning,
    Anyone get this error before?
    -4013:Period is locked for new data
       at NetPoint.SynchSBO.SBOObjects.SBOOrder.NetPointToSBOOrder(NPOrder order)
       at NetPoint.SynchSBO.SBOObjects.SBOOrder.NetPointToSBO(NPQueueObject qData)
       at NetPoint.SynchSBO.SynchObjectBase.Synch()
    Haven't received it before today, of course, the day we go live.  The period we are posting to is not locked for new data and it seems to be limited to one customer only...  Any immediate thoughts?
    Thanks so much,
    Kristen

    OK, I have it working for the moment, but I am very curious about this.  I went back in and selected the Install Plugin button 2 more times just to be sure, I restarted everything and they went through fine.  Could it be that the Plugin installed partially before?  It didn't seem so because other orders were flowing both ways and just certain ones were seeming to get stuck...  Then more gradually started failing until none were passing through.  This has been working seemlessly in this environment for weeks until of course go live today, so I am at a loss.  Probably just that one piece of excitement for Go Live that we were missing.  All is well.  James, thanks for responding.

  • ERR:10003 Unexpected data store file exists for new data store

    Our TimesTen application crashes and then it can not connect TimesTen datastore, and then we use ttIsql and get error "10003 Unexpected data store file exists for new data store".So we must rebuild the DataStore.
    I guess the application damages the datastore because we use "direct-linked" mode. Is it true?
    Should I use "Client-Server" mode if our data is very important?
    thx!

    Your question raises several important discussion points:
    It is possible (though very unlikely in practice) for a C or C++ program operating in direct mode to damage the contents of the datastore e.g. by writing through an invalid memory pointer. In the 11+ years that TimesTen has existed as a commercial product we have so far never seen any support case where this was diagnosed as the cause of a problem. However, it is definitely a theoretical possibility and rigorous program testing and use of tools such as Purify is strongly recommended when developing in C or C++ in direct mode. Java programs running in direct mode are completely 'safe' unless they invoke non-Java code via JNI when a similar risk is present.
    The reality is that most customers who use TimesTen in very high performance mission critical applications use mainly direct mode...
    Note also that an application crashing should not cause any damage or corruption to a datastore, even if it is using direct mode, as Times%Ten contains explicit mechanisms to guard against this.
    Your specific problem (error 10003) is nothing to do with the datastore being damaged. This error reflects a discrepancy between the instance main daemon's metedata about all the datastores that it is managing and the reality. This error occurs when the main daemon does not know about a datastore and yet when it comes to connect to (and hence create) the datastore it finds that checkpoint or log files already exist. The main daemon's metadata is managed solely by the main daemon and is completely separate from the datastore and datastore files (the default location is <tt_instance_install_directory>/info, though you can change this at install time). The ususal cause of this is that someone has been manually manipulating files within that directory (which of course you should never do) and has removed or renamed the .DBI file corresponding to the datastore.
    This error should never arise under normal circumstances and certainly not just because some application has crashed.
    Rather than simply switching to the (much slower) client/server mode I think we should try and understand why this error is occurring. Could you please post the following:
    1. Output of ttVersion command
    and then we can take it from there.
    Thanks, Chris

  • Discrepency while REPLICATING META DATA (for new DATA SOURCE) in BI side.

    In R/3 I have created a simple TRANSACTIONAL data store based on an INFO QUERY.
    I even checked the veracity of this data store using RSA3 to see whether it extracts data. Works perfectly.
    I go to BW side. Click on the SAP module under which I have created the data source, right click, select 'REPLICATE' and click on it.
    ( I would love to post the screen shot here, but I think I may not be able to paste BMP files here).
    I will write the contents of the POP-UP that appears,
    Title:Data Source from Source System Unknown
    Pop-up contents:
    Data Source (OSOA) DS_01
    does not exist in BI system
    How do you want to create the object in BI?
    1. as DataSource (RSDS)
    2. as 3.x DataSource (ISFS)
    3. this and following 3 as DataSource (RSDS)
    4. this and following 3 as 3.x DataSource (ISFS).
    Well, I normally select option three as per my instructions (without knowing the real reason).
    But sometimes, either for the same data source or for another data sources that I created, the same pop up will appear like this
    Title:Data Source from Source System Unknown
    Pop-up contents:
    Data Source (OSOA) DS_01
    does not exist in BI system
    How do you want to create the object in BI?
    1. as DataSource (RSDS)
    2. as 3.x DataSource (ISFS)
    Just TWO options.
    And, if I select option 1, the data source does not work properly on BI side, though it worked perfectly on R/3 under TRANSACTION RSA3 and showed me data.
    For some unknown reasons, if I delete the erroneous datasource on BI side and sleep overnight and comeback in the morning and replicate, the POP-UP sometimes appears with FOUR options, (Notice the word 'SOMETIMES')
    Can someone explain the secret behind this?
    Thanks again in advance,
    Gold

    3. this and following 3 as DataSource (RSDS)
    That means there are total 3 new (not yet in BI) DataSources available, u wanted to replicate as 7.0 datasource (RSRS) or 3.x datasource (ISFS).
    (other 2 datasources activated from RSA5, or created by other users under that SAP module)
    If there is 1 new DataSource, u will  get just TWO options.
    1. as DataSource (RSDS)
    2. as 3.x DataSource (ISFS)
    After replication with option 1, u should activate datasource in BI, then create infopackages, transformation, DTP etc.

  • Swap out dataset for new data possible?

    If I use the same column names in my underlying database tables, is it possible to use them in an existing report to refresh data for new quarter without wiping out my existing reports?  The reports took a long time to set up so I hope I can do this.
     If it is, can you please point me in the right direction?
    Thanks in advance.  I think is is probably a basic concept but I'm having a mental block.

    Hi ,
      I dont think it is possible to append the data to existing report . Once the data rendered to the report , the data is pretty much static and if you want new data to be shown up you need to refresh and re-render the report. Alteranatively , if your
    report is taking long time to render consider caching the reports

  • XI for managing data conversions

    My customer is considering using XI for managing their data conversions.  This is a very large implementation with many source data systems.  We will also have a very large volume of data to migrate.  For example, we'll have around 8 million materials.  For these materials, we're thinking we can extract this data and map it to an idoc structure and pass into SAP via XI.  First, has anyone used XI for data conversions?  Second, have you dealt with this volume of transactions?  Can XI handle this?  Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    SAP XI is used for those exact purposes.  Of course as volume increases, your customer will have to increase memory and hardware.  They have also consider the whether the messages are synchronous.  In case of migration, I think they will be asynchronous.  SAP has a customer who before going live, performed some massive load tests that will simulate an average "real" working day, of 1,200,000 (million, two hundreds thousands) transactions, and it worked smoothly yet fast.  Your customer will most likely have to break up 8 million material into daily batches for now.
    Enjoy!

  • Tutorial for new Data Upload feature in 4.1?

    Greetings,
    Is there a tutorial available for using the new Data Upload feature in 4.1? We have not upgraded to 4.1 yet and I would like to try out the new feature on my APEX test workspace, so I can use the new feature once we are upgraded to 4.1.
    Thanks,
    John

    I installed the Product Portal Sample Database and went to page 21. Very nice looking. Is there any tutorial for this Sample application? In other words, is there a tutorial that uses this application as its basis?
    What I am really looking for (my apologies if I have not been clear) is a tutorial that steps you through the process of setting up the new feature of Data Upload in APEX 4.1. I would like to create a new application on my test workspace and learn how to set up the Data Upload page.
    Seeing the Data Load in action is very helpful though. Thanks for pointing me to this.
    Thanks,
    John

    Anybody experienced this before or what would this issue be related to?
    Thanks in advance

  • Polling for new Data in Tables with SQL-functions

    Hi
    In my table I have 2 columns:
    event_state : integer (0 = unread, 1 = read)
    min_process_time : date
    In the DB-Adapter-Wizard I can configure my event_state-Field for using as logical delete field. In the SQL-Query there is a
    ... WHERE event_state=0
    But, I only want to query all new entries in this table, where
    min_process_time > SYSDATE.
    How can I configure my toplink-mapping, that SYSDATE can be used in the polling-query? If I use plain-sql instead of the expression from the Wizard (last page), then this sql-statement is ignored. In an expression I only can use a constant-value.
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Gregor

    Hi
    I am creating a database Polling (logical delete OPEN to CLOSED) adapter that polls a table for records which have a "SCHEDULED" date field.
    The Polling Adapter should pick up those records where the status is OPEN and SCHEDULED<=SYSDATE.
    DB Adapter wizard does not allows this where clause(SCHEDULED<=SYSDATE) to be set; so i tried modifying the Toplink SQL with custom SQL. But it does not works. Please suggest a workaround.
    Please help.

  • Form on screen, not updating for new data on inputstream

    I'm writing a j2me midlet that will initiate a bluetooth connection to another device. I have been able to set up the inputstreams and outputstreams and send some data between the two devices using serial port emulation.
    The following is the code for this part of the program:
    ServiceRecord s = (ServiceRecord) serviceVector.elementAt(a);
            int data[] = new int[10000];
            InputStream in = null;
            OutputStream out = null;
            Form dataForm = new Form("Data");
            dataForm.addCommand(exitCommand);
            dataForm.addCommand(backCommand);
            dataForm.setCommandListener(this);
            display.setCurrent(dataForm);
            try {
                StreamConnection conn = null;
                String url = null;
                try {
                    url = s.getConnectionURL(ServiceRecord.NOAUTHENTICATE_NOENCRYPT, false);
                    conn = (StreamConnection) Connector.open(url);
                } catch (IOException e) {
                    System.err.println("Note: can't connect to: " + url);
                in = conn.openDataInputStream();
                out = conn.openDataOutputStream();
                int ch;
                out.flush();
                    while (((ch) = in.read()) != -1) {
                        String aChar = new Character((char)ch).toString();
                        dataForm.append(aChar);
                        dataForm.append("\n");
                conn.close();My problem is that the midlet on the mobile phone will only update its window to display the new screen as a form once the connection has been terminated, that is when the while loop has been broken. Is there a way in which to display the form while the inputstream is waiting for data and then watch the addition of data in real time to the form?
    I am relatively new to java and have searched the forum/ internet for such a problem but have not been able to find a solution. Cheers

    I don't think that is it now that we are into Monday and it still hasn't updated. Anybody else having issues with their text descriptino not updating? What's a good email address to contact apple about the problem. Non of the "contact Us" email addresses seem to fit the description. The [email protected] is a blackhole.

  • Java program to watch sql server for new data

    I need to write a java program to watch a ms sql server database table, whenever there are data inserted into this table, I need to followup with some functions!
    I have done some jsp work before, but writing a java process that would do watch, i have no idea. any help?
    thankx

    The only efficient mechanism I can imagine would be to define a trigger on insert and/or update on the table and have this do something (not sure what, don't use MS SQL Server these days).

  • 1003 error:unexpected data store file exists for new data store

    dear chris
    when we use timesten, what happened cause the error 1003, I don't know what cause it happen. it works well before. but it happened today twice.
    anyone know the reason ?? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

    The TimesTen daemon maintains a 'catalog' containing information about datastores that it is managing. From the daemon's perspective, a datastroe is uniquely identified by the pathname for the checkpoint files (the value of the DataStore attribute in a DSN definition). The daemon knows nothing about DSNs or ODBC.INI files...
    A datastore is physically created, and hence registered with the instance daemon, the first time something connects to it specifying the ODBC/connection attribute AutoCreate=1 (which is the default value). From that point, the datastore has a physical existence (checkpoint and log files exist on disk), is known to the daemon and hence will appear in the output of the ttStatus command.
    If at the time you connect to a datastore with AutoCreate=1 and the daemon has no record of the datastore it will try and create it. If it finds that the checkpoint files already exist in the specified location on disk then this is 'unexpected' (since the datastore should not exist yet) and error 1003 results.
    Seems like you have somehow got some checkpoint files existing that the daemon does not know about. You have made some kind of mistake somewhere I guess; maybe you copied files around inadvertently?

  • Data conversion strategy for new SOB

    Dear Viewers
    on 11.5.10
    We are creating a new SOB with a change in currency from Feb-11 as this is the requirement
    For the same, we need to do data conversion.
    I have a confusion for Purchase Orders and Sales Orders
    Purchase Orders:
    Open purchase orders will be converted, means the unfulfilled PO`s i.e the ones not received and are fully open.
    The PO`s which have been recieved but not delivered, Requested the users to clear the intransit receipts.
    The PO's which are partially received, what to be done for them?
    If a PO is fully received and Delivered will not me converted to the new SOB as its not an open PO
    but If invoice comes after Feb-11, than how the matching will be done?
    What if a return has to be made moving forward in FEB-11 under new SOB
    Sales Orders:
    Open sales orders will be converted, that is the ones that have been entered and not yet booked.
    Users have been requested to clear off the Sales order lines which are already pick confirmed but not yet shipped, hence they will be shipped and interfaced to AR
    For the Sales orders that have been booked, those lines that are not yet processed further will also be converted.
    Now what if a receipt comes after feb 11, how to handle this as the sales order wiould not have been converted?
    Please give your advise on the data migration strategy for PO`s and SO's.
    Please do add any point that may have been missed by me
    Appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Emm

    Hi David,
    for master data conversion you can use LSMW and the RE-FX BAPIs. (please refer to SAP note  [782947|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/782947] ).
