XI Installation requires ABAP Engine???

Hi,
We have a big landscape in our organisation.We are planning to install XI (NW 2004s SR2) machine also.
Our long term purpose with this installation is to replace the middlewares like Business connector,MQ etc.
I want to know that at present,whether I should install this XI with java stack only or should I install ABAP engine also thinking the above said thing in mind.
I am new to XI,so don't have much knowledge on this!!!
Can anybody provide some input on this?

I suggest getting a Basis consultant on site, someone, who knows HACMP, can have a look at your current configuration (quorum, clusters filesystem et al) and can give suggestions, what´s the best and safest way to setup an additional system and if you need downtime according to your configuration or not.

Yes you can install java engine.Run sapinst from installation master cd and select only java engine installation.There will be check boxes abd you have to choose java engine.Also check the nwo4s installation guide.It will guide you throughly.Keep in mind to use correct jdk required for your kind of installatiom.

but ABAP ENGINE ??? What ABAP ENGINE and SERVICE PACK is necessary to use Adobe Document Service ??? ECC5 ??? 4.6 ?? 4.7 ???

Installation WAS ABAP UC + WAS J2EE Add In..and XI

Hello everybody,
Could anyone help me with this issue ??
I am going to install WAS ABAP and WAS J2EE Add in and after that do the XI installation.
I am reading the installation guides and I have some doubts about "Hardware and SOft Requirements Section".
I am going to do a Central System Installation (WAS ABAP + WAS JAVA Add in)
I have read the two installation guides: WAS ABAP and WAS J2EE.
Somewhere I read that I have to add requeriments. For example, if I am going to install CI and DB on the same server, then I have to add RAM for CI and RAM for DB.
The question is:
In the installation guide for WAS ABAP, Database Requeriment Disk is 14 GB (Unicode)
And in the installation guide for WAS JAVA, Database Req. Disk is 14 Gb (Unicode)
Have I to add 14 + 14 ?? Or 14 Gb is OK for the database with the two schemas ??
Same is for Paging File ?? I am 64 bit server.
It is a Development System

We have a ABAP/J2EE 6.20 system running with only 8GB ram total on the system and we do get some swapping but for a development I would say we see great performance.
XI I can'T say though...

Is a simple ABAP Engine Licence available ?

Hello all !
After many tests, showrooms and procedures, I am convinced that WAS is the solution I need to pilot some of my SAP R/3 processes.
Now, I am wonderign which installation I could choose. My customer actually works on a 4.5C R/3 version and did not planned to upgrade to 4.7.
My only economic solution is to implement a second SAP server based upon WAS 6.20 in order to generate BSP applications that will control SAP Objects via RFC and Master Data via ALE/IDOCS.
I am trying an demo version called "ABAP Engine 6.20" that is able to do exactly what I want. So my question is:
Is there a SAP product that only licences an ABAP 6.20 Engine (a kind of R/3 BC without any modules)?

I am afraid my question was not sharp enough.
I do not want to create showrooms ore basic things based upon the Miniwas 6.20 that I already have.
What I would like to do is to install and manage a real server for real situations.
Do you think I can have a prodution licence upon a WAS Kernell without installing a complete SAP product ?
Tell me if I am still not precise (I am French and sometimes I hardly find the right terms)

1. I have downloaded the SAP Cryptoghraphic library for my platform.Two files were there--one is CAR file and another is SAR file.
After that probably
1. I have to extarct the files ( which one SAR or CAR? and how (with which command?))
2. After extraction, I'll get a file libsapcrypto.so. I have to put this into $DIR_EXECUTABLE directory.
What should be the exact path for $DIR_EXECUTABLE?
I have checked that in my system $DIR_EXECUTABLE=home/<sidadm>
Please let me know the absolute path where I have to put libsapcrypto.so
3. I have to set the environment variable SECUDIR to the directory $DIR_INSTANCE/sec.
What should be the exact path for $DIR_EXECUTABLE?

Abap engine alone is enough to develop and embed flash applications in the flash islands.
You need abap engine and also adobe flex builder.
refer to this tutorial for step by step procedure to develop a demo application .
it doesnot require a java engine.

Problem Installing ABAP Engine of SAP WAS 6.20(TEST DRIVE VERSION)

I am trying to install ABAP Engine of SAP WAS 6.20(TEST DRIVE VERSION) which I got with the official ABAP Reference book of SAP press.
It is installing upto 91% and giving the following errors:

Restart the install and search this forum for "MiniWAS", "Mini Was", "620 install" and you'll find half a dozen people who had the same problem.

Is ABAP engine mandatory?

Hi guys - Can you tell me where I can find information in regards to Java stack versus ABAP stack. I am looking to see if FS-CM and FS-CD modules can be installed only on Java system or ABAP engine is mandatory? if FS-CD and FS-CM availabile on either the ABAP stack, Java stack or require both? Both would have a sizing impact right?

Install - ABAP Engine - superdba password failed error

Hallo,
I have the J2EE Engine in my PC installed, and everything works fine. Now I am trying to install the ABAP Engine, and I get the error
<b>"Check of the superdba user password failed. Check logfile XCMDOUT.LOG"</b>
The error appears when I try to set the password for the superdba (Step 2 of the installation -> Define parameters)
Does anybody know, what can I do?

Hi,
before there was a WAS 6.20 (Web Application Server) SAP's R/3 Applications were build up on the so called R/3 Basis System. One part of the R/3 Basis was the APAP/4 Runtime. This was true until R/3 version 4.5.
In parallel SAP started to develop a J2EE Application Server. They founded/buyed a company in Bulgaria called InQMy. You might know that the portal version EP5.0 was based on the InQMy J2EE engine.
Since R/3 4.7 the old R/3 Basis is called "Web Application Server" (WAS 6.20). Additional to the ABAP/4 Runtime this WAS contains the former ITS (Internet Transaction Server" and the BSP's (Business Server Pages). The old ABAP/4 Runtime is now called "ABAP Stack".
The old InQMy J2EE Server is now called "J2EE Engine" or "JAVA Stack".
With Release 6.40 of the WAS it contains both the ABAP Stack and the JAVA Stack.
Now to Your Question. A standarad EP installation just contains the JAVA stack of the WAS. The ABAP stack normally is not installed, because it is not used by the EP. You could install the ABAP stack in addition. But for what purposes ? Well if You would like to develop a webapplication based on BSP.
If You are allread running an R/3 System it contains an ABAP Stack but normally no JAVA stack.
The Java Stack of the EP Server can call the ABAP Stack of an R/3 System via RFC (remote function call).
More confused now ?

EP 7 : Integration with ADS & ABAP engine

Dear All,
I am installing EP 7 with ABAP engine. In this case, the J2EE engine will be installed as an add-in.
In this case, the UME configuration of EP will use the SAP ABAP engine as datasource.
Now, will I be able to integrate my EP , UME with the ADS ? Is there anything which I need to take care while installation ?

NW2004s: SPS installation for dual-Stack-Installation (Java/ABAP) - PI(XI)

we want to apply a new SP stack to a NW2004s (ECC 6.0) - dual stack (Java/ABAP) with PI(XI).
The ABAP stack is sucessfully patched yet,
but the Java stack needs still to be patched!
In the SPS guide for SPS 9 and some OSS notes you can read that during the patching of the Java stack, the whole system (ABAP and Java engine) are restarted several times. But the JSPM should ask you before the restart.
Do you have experiences how long the patching of the Java stack will take (downtime)?
How often needs the system to be restarted?
Is it possible to work with the ABAP engine (ABAP development, etc.) during the installation of the Java SPS with JSPM until the system needs to be restarted?
How is it possible to minimize the downtime of the system during the Java SPS installation?

I believe this is most highly dependent on the hardware. Although some patches will deploy more objects than others, the deploy time is shorter on better/faster hardware. I applied SP9 on my laptop PC (java only, no ABAP stack) and it took a few hours total -- including my processing and error correcting time. My laptop has only 2 GB RAM so this process was greatly slowed by the amount of available memory (I was running other applications, like Outlook, etc.) resulting in a lot of disk swapping.
"How often needs the system to be restarted?"
Again, I have a java only installation, no ABAP, but I believe there was only 1-2 system restarts. The system had to be restarted after the application of the java kernel part of the patch, then shutdown and restarted again for the offline deployment phase. I cannot remember if there was a restart after the online deployment phase.
"Is it possible to work with the ABAP engine (ABAP development, etc.) during the installation of the Java SPS with JSPM until the system needs to be restarted?"
Yes.
"How is it possible to minimize the downtime of the system during the Java SPS installation?"
I think the best way is to have the best hardware! Also, be sure to be thoroughly prepared by reading the guide, all of the Notes, etc. I was slowed by a previously correctable error (my administrator password had been previously changed and I had not changed it in the secure store -- Note 701654).
