XI on a small system (2)

Hi,
is there any way to run XI 3.0 for evaluation in a less demanding environment that is needed for NetWeaver 04 / WAS 6.40 (e.g. on a notebook, Win XP, 1 GB RAM)?
Regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
The sizing of the hardware depends on the usage of the system.  For an SAP XI 3.0 "playground" development system, 2 processors with 1 GIG each may be sufficient.  We have a few consultants who have the SAP XI software running on their laptops.  Of course, having more RAM would be better.
Enjoy!

  • Smaller system window fonts

I just purchased a 60" monitor for my mac. I have set the resolution in the System Prefs to the smallest image. I have also reduced the type on the finder but my system windows font areas are still too large. Can I reduce the fonts of the system windows, i.e. mail, left area with inbox, junk, etc?

Yes, I have done that but it only effects the messages area of the window. Is there any way to change the sizes in the areas of the window that contain the inbox, junk, "on my mac", etc? Thanks!

    Hello,
Looks fine. Are you going to have 2 separate VLANs for the different services associated with the 2nd NIC's and secure the public facing ones with the PIX and a totally private VLAN for the local services?

  • Build a small linux system with busybox

    Hello,
i'm looking for information how to build a small linux system based on glibc and busybox.
I know http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/, but it is quite complex... I want to build a much smaller system.
Has anybody some information about it or knows a good website?
I know there are serveral "build systems", for example buildroot (http://buildroot.uclibc.org/), but i really want to build it "from scratch"
    johannes

I have looked at the following a while back. I wanted to try to build a very small system too. I never got so far though, as I didn't have the time for it.
    http://tldp.org/HOWTO/From-PowerUp-To-B … HOWTO.html
    http://users.cecs.anu.edu.au/~okeefe/p2 … ldMin.html
What I never really could find a precise answer to was how much is really necessary for a system to "startup".
Would it really be enough with a bootloader, kernel and /sbin/init?
(I know there would be just about no functionality in that, but theoretically?)

It would be the CPU of my choice.
I understand the 2TB drive is actually two 1TB drives. What I was suggesting was to split them apart. Don't get them in a RAID.
As for the smaller system drive, it's less about saving money than it is about efficiency. Ideally you should put nothing on the system drive but Windows and programs, nothing else. 500GB will be a waste. (For example, mine is 75GB and is less than half full.) That's why I recommend the smaller System drive and use the 500GB for Projects/Scratch.

PS Bios is running best on Optimized settings.

That is just odd.  I flashed my motherboard almost immediately to v2.4 (latest BIOS version when I got the board a few months back) and Win XP (w/ SP3 slipstreamed) installed without a hitch.

  • Public IP address for ERP system

    Hi,
A SAP BC consultant gives me a small system landscape for ERP 6.0 and its info. as following:
      a. 1 Sol Man system, 1 ERP system for DEV, 1 ERP system for PRO.
      b. The Sol Man Server is for the ENTIRE SAP TECHNICAL LANDSCAPE in the single company.
      c. The entire SAP Landscape needs to be on a different SUBNET on a different Gigabit switch for optimum performance. The broadcast between 2 subnets will be handled via a router.
      d. A router with VPN Capabilities and 2-3 static public IP addresses (THIS IS A MUST).
I don't know why I need 2-3 static public IP addresses if I don't public anything to Internet. Somebody tell me why?

  • Lookout limitations and selection of the computer system for lookout

This is regarding the limitation of the lookout i.e. upto how much IO lookout is reccomended to use.
or it is on the basis of the l4p or lks file size basis.
Do you have some criteria for the selection of the computer system for lookout on the basis of the IO's.
is there any criteria by which we can check the execution cycle time for the lookout process.
Is there any NI controller also avaiable for lookout applications?

From what I have observed, there is no standard.  The best thing to do is to create test setups.
Its entirely possible that a system with 100 IO may require more processing/memory than a 5000 IO system.  Database, archiving, reporting, analytics, etc.
    It is variable.
Just for reference on our systems, we dont use the IO count for performance curves, we go based on the site configurations for the system.
A site could be 1 pump, 6 pumps and a tank, 1 pump and a tank, 4 tanks, etc.  Consider than a tank may only take 5 IO and a well upwards of 50 IO each, we could hit 150-200 IO per site.
Smaller systems (<10 sites) we have run very successfully on Atom based servers (not netbooks...).
10-40 sites run well on basic dual-core workstations with 2GB or more of RAM
40-100 we recommend quad-core servers with 4GB or more of RAM.
(100+ gets a little more intricate)
We try to make sure that the system is not more than 15% loaded (memory and/or CPU) by services at normal work.  Lots of room left over for future growth or unexpected workloads and backup routines.

  • Best way to clone a System 9 environment?

    Hi,
To begin, I'm very new to the Oracle/Hyperion scene, so please forgive me if I'm not providing enough information...
I have a stable System 9 environment (HFM, FDM, etc.) in production running on 5 Windows 2003 virtual servers (the SQL databases are stored on a 6th server). I'd like to clone the 5 Hyperion servers to create a development environment. We've tried this before, and even though the "clones" have different server names and everything has been re-registered with shared services, we're still getting a lot of cross-talk between the newly cloned development environment and the production environment.
I opened a ticket to Oracle, and they recommended reinstalling everything on new servers, then using the 'HfmCopyApplication.exe' that's located in the '..\hyperion\FinancialManagement\Server\' directory to migrate our application from production to development. That is definitely an option, but I'd prefer to be able to clone the existing environment and make a few configuration changes on the new servers to get everything working. That way, I can make sure that the two environments are identical except for the server names, rather than having to reinstall everything and make sure all of the small system tweaks and patches have been applied...
Is something like this even possible?

    Here's one for you guys....
I rebuilt a new environment from scratch, then I copied the app, migrated the shared service user/group/class info (including SID's so that everything would match), registered the app in workspace, and reimported the security file.
When normal users attempt to access the app through workspace they get errors saying that the app does not exist. If I look at the Consolidation properties for these users, the cluster name is shown as the production cluster name! Oddly my account works as expected and my cluster shows as the dev cluster!
Since I have so much free time sarcasm I rebuilt the entire environment and copied yet another fresh app today and have the exact same problem......
I have a pending ticket with Oracle and am waiting for some feedback from them.
Any of you guys see something like this?

  • Reducing time required for ABAP-only copyback (system copy) process

Our company is investigating how to reduce the amount of time it takes to perform a copyback (system copy) from a production ABAP system to a QA system.  We use a similar process for all ABAP-only systems in our landscape, ranging from 3.1h systems to ECC6.0 ABAP-only systems on both DB2 and Oracle database platforms, and the process takes approximately two weeks of effort from end-to-end (this includes time required to resolve any issues encountered).
Here is an overview of the process we use:
u2022     Create and release backup transports of key system tables and IDu2019s (via client copy) in the QA system to be overwritten (including RFC-related tables, partner profile and IDOC setup-related tables,  scheduled background jobs, archiving configuration, etc.).
u2022     Reconfigure the landscape transport route to remove QA system from transport landscape.
u2022                    Create a virtual import queue attached to the development system to capture all transports released from development during the QA downtime.
u2022     Take a backup of the target production database.
u2022     Overwrite the QA destination database with the production copy.
u2022     Localize the database (performed by DBAu2019s).
u2022     Overview of Basis tasks (for smaller systems, this process can be completed in one or two days, but for larger systems, this process takes closer to 5 days because of the BDLS runtime and the time it takes to import larger transport requests and the user ID client copy transports):
    o     Import the SAP license.
o     Execute SICK to check the system.
o     Execute BDLS to localize the system.
o     Clear out performance statistics and scheduled background jobs.
    o     Import the backup transports.
o     Import the QA client copy of user IDu2019s.
    o     Import/reschedule background jobs.
o     Perform any system-specific localization (example: for a CRM system with TREX, delete the old indexes).
u2022     Restore the previous transport route to include the QA system back into the landscape.
u2022     Import all transports released from the development system during the QA system downtime.
Our companyu2019s procedure is similar to the procedure demonstrated in this 2010 TechEd session:
    http://www.sapteched.com/10/usa/edu_sessions/session.htm?id=825
Does anyone have experience with a more efficient process that minimizes the downtime of the QA system?
Also, has anyone had a positive experience with the system copy automation tools offered by various companies (e.g., UC4, Tidal)?
    Thank you,
    Matt

    Hi,
    > One system that immediately comes to mind has a database size of 2TB.  While we have reduced the copyback time for this system by running multiple BDLS sessions in parallel, that process still takes a long time to complete.  Also, for the same system, importing the client copy transports of user ID's takes about 8 hours (one full workday) to complete.
    >
For BDLS run, I agree with Olivier.
    > The 2 weeks time also factors in time to resolve any issues that are encountered, such as issues with the database restore/localization process or issues resulting from human error.  An example of human error could be forgetting to request temporary ID's to be created in the production system for use in the QA system after it has been initially restored (our standard production Basis role does not contain all authorizations required for the QA localization effort).
    >
For the issues that you encounter because of system copy, you can minimize this time period as you would be doing it on periodic basis (making some task list) and you can make a note of issues that you faced in previous run. So, normally i don't count it as system copy time
    Thanks

  • "Only one EHP Level in the system"?

I am reading a blog called "SAP enhancement packages for SAP ERP".
    At page 22, it says:
"An Application system can only consist of one EHP level (e.g. EHP3 or EHP4). Hence installed
EHP components have to be updated with every future EHP implementation."
I do not quite understand above statement.
    1) how can a system have 2 EHP levels?
    2) If our PROD system is too busy to have the downtime to be updated with the future EHP, what will happen?
    Please share your opinion. Thanks!

As of EHP3, you could still install some EHP components. On an ERP 6.00, you could just push SAP_APP to 6.03 and move on. Now if you want another component in your system with an EHP4 version, you can't have some components at EHP3 and some at EHP4. You would install EHP4 for the new component you desire updated and part of the work will be to also update SAP_APP to 6.04.
EHP4 is an UPGRADE process, with shadow instance & all the joy of an upgrade process. You can either run ressource minimized or downtime minimized. In resource minimized, the shadow instance runs on the same server as the main instance. Downtime minimized allow to run the shadow instance on a separate / new server. Anyway you go, you will always have a "Downtime Phase" when you bring back the updated components from the shadow instance toward the real production one.
As with any UPGRADE project, the benefits of installing EHP4 for your business has to weighted against the downtime cost.
Our tests so far on small systems (few data, few users, 120GB database) show ~3 days process from EHP3 to EHP4 (all components) with a downtime phase of about 22 hours using the "resource minimized" path, i.e. shadow & main instance on the same server (4 CPUs, 16GB RAM). Until you give a try at your Sandbox or DEV systems, you won't have realistic figures for your environment.
    Good luck!

  • About warehouse management system

    Hi All,
I want to make a small system managing our stocks in warehouse, but I don't know how to make a warehouse system, what table should I have?
I think I need to have at least:
    . items
    . inventory
and if one supplier sent some items to us, you know, the warehouse system is like a double record system, since stocks didn't get reased, it just moved from one place to another.
    Any clue?
    thanks.

    Hi all,
I have created the following simple example for my problem, hope this will help you better understanding my situation, a little bit of explanation:
the business process is like this:
We have a warehouse which will hold all materials(items), some items we produced from raw material, some items we buy from suppliers, so I created an 'items' table for all the items we have. and then I created a 'stocks' table for current stock qty of each items, then I have created a 'stock_in' table, which will handle the input of stocks, maybe I can seperate that in type of table in different areas, like, for items purchased from outside, I will have a table purchase_stock_in table, which will against a table of purchase_orders, that is, if one supplier sent 100 item a, then stocks will increase by 100, and the purchase_orders related to that transcation will decrease by 100, if the purchase order qty is total 200, the we have a stock of 100, and remain 100 undelivered by our supplier. that is just an example, for items we produced by ourself, we can have another in type of table, let's say it is called an manufacturing_stock_in table, wich will against our production orders, if we have a production order total qty 300 for item b, make by work center A ( or dept A), then if they sent 100 in stocks, then stocks of b increased by 100, and production order related decreased by 100, the we have item b stock qty 100, and still 200 under production.
so the situation is stocks table, stock_in transactions( goods receipt), stock_out(goods_issue), simple enough. so I created the following tables:
    CREATE TABLE  "ITEMS"
       (     "ITEM_ID" NUMBER(6,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "ITEM_NO" VARCHAR2(30) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "ITEM_NAME" VARCHAR2(100) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "COLUMN1" VARCHAR2(20),
CONSTRAINT "ITEMS_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("ITEM_ID") ENABLE,
          CONSTRAINT "ITEMS_ITEM_NO_UK1" UNIQUE ("ITEM_NO") ENABLE
    CREATE TABLE  "STOCKS"
       (     "STOCK_ID" NUMBER(6,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "ITEM_NO" VARCHAR2(30) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "QTY" NUMBER(6,2),
         "UNIT" VARCHAR2(10),
         "LAST_UPDATE" DATE,
         "UPDATE_BY" VARCHAR2(30),
CONSTRAINT "STOCKS_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("STOCK_ID") ENABLE,
          CONSTRAINT "STOCKS_ITEM_NO_UK1" UNIQUE ("ITEM_NO") ENABLE
    CREATE TABLE  "STOCK_INS"
       (     "IN_DOC_ID" NUMBER(6,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "ITEM_NO" VARCHAR2(30),
         "REF_DOC_NO" VARCHAR2(30),
         "QTY" NUMBER(6,2),
         "IN_DATE" DATE,
CONSTRAINT "STOCK_INS_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("IN_DOC_ID") ENABLE,
          CONSTRAINT "STOCK_INS_UK1" UNIQUE ("ITEM_NO", "REF_DOC_NO", "IN_DATE") ENABLE
    CREATE TABLE  "STOCK_OUTS"
       (     "OUT_DOC_ID" NUMBER(6,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "ITEM_NO" VARCHAR2(30),
         "REF_DOC_NO" VARCHAR2(30),
         "QTY" NUMBER(6,2),
         "OUT_DATE" DATE,
CONSTRAINT "STOCK_OUTS_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("OUT_DOC_ID") ENABLE,
          CONSTRAINT "STOCK_OUTS_UK1" UNIQUE ("ITEM_NO", "REF_DOC_NO", "OUT_DATE") ENABLE
ALTER TABLE  "STOCKS" ADD CONSTRAINT "STOCKS_ITEM_NO_FK1" FOREIGN KEY ("ITEM_NO")
           REFERENCES  "ITEMS" ("ITEM_NO") ENABLE;ALTER TABLE  "STOCK_INS" ADD CONSTRAINT "STOCK_INS_ITEM_NO_FK1" FOREIGN KEY ("ITEM_NO")
REFERENCES  "ITEMS" ("ITEM_NO") ENABLE;my question is how to show the current stock_qty? that is, if I input 100 stocks, should I use a trigger deduct the purchase_order_qty, and increase the stocks qty?
how to do it? how to update the tables.
if there's one transaction, if I don't use any means of updating the underlying tables, let's say we have 3 tables in paper ledgers, then I will have to input this data manually in two places, that is for purchasing, I will have to input a transaction deducting the purchase_orders table. and then I input a record of this transaction by increasing the stocks table?
it is like you are transfering your money from account A to account B, any kind of software like Quicken will enable you to input in one place, then it will automatically showup in another place to, also true for deleting, updating, etc.
Should I use triggers or procedures implementing the insert/update/delete transactions of related two tables? how?
    any clue?
