[XI R2] Display string characters in font: Wingdings

Hello,
My aim is to give the possibility to user to use the Wingdings font on WebiReport. This font is correctly installed and can be used with Wordpad.
I added the following part in the fontalias.xml file located in this path: ..BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5win32_x86 onts
<FONT NAME="Wingdings">
<FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="ttf" NAME="Wingdings">
<FONTATTRIBUTE BOLD="false" ITALIC="false" LOGICAL="Wingdings" PHYSICAL="Wingdings.ttc,1;ARIALUNI.TTF"></FONTATTRIBUTE>
</FONTFAMILY>
<FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="win" NAME="Wingdings"></FONTFAMILY>
<FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="java" NAME=" Wingdings, 'Arial Unicode MS'"></FONTFAMILY>
<FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="html" NAME=" Wingdings, 'Arial Unicode MS'"></FONTFAMILY>
</FONT>
But it doesn't work, the font is converted in Arial and not Wingding...
Have you got any idea? Is it possible?
Thanks in advance for your help
Stéphane

I SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
BufferedReader dis = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader( urlConn.getInputStream(),"SJIS"));
"SJIS" - was the key

  • Displaying Asian Characters/Other Fonts

    I'm having trouble trying to display other fonts/asian fonts in my SWING application. I know this has probably be asked to death, but here's my scenario.
    I don't want to modify the font.properties file if possible because this is a SWING applet. I'm trying to use the "Arial Unicode MS" font from Windows to display some unicode characters, but all I get is the dreaded square boxes.
    I've tried to access the GraphicsEnvironment.GetLocal.... but I get a security error for a missing class (I'm using JRE1.3 on Windows2k).
    Here's a snippet of my code:
    UIManager.put("Label.font", new Font("Arial Unicode MS", Font.PLAIN, 40));
    JFrame frame = new JFrame("Test Window");
    final JLabel label = new JLabel("\u88B9 alcsnjdfd \uBA85\uC554\uBE44");
    frame.getContentPane().add(label);
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Safari displaying unusual characters bad font?

    Network accounts (networked home folders) are not properly displaying text in Safari browser. This is a new build and I did install new fonts, run font book and validation and resolve duplicates from the admin (local) account. And admin works fine. I even used cocktail to wipe the font caches before I created my disk image.
    I've logged in with a network account and ran cocktail and font nuke and font book, nothing resolves the font issue. It is something else??
    Have a look at the problem...
    Let me know what you think.
    Thanks!

    This is from Kurt Lang, our resident Font Guru:
    A’s with boxes around them is always a sign of trouble with the main system
    font, Lucida Grande.
    Quick possible fix is to remove ALL font cache files from the system to see
    if it's just bad cache data. For that, you need to use OnyX or other utility
    which will remove both system and user cache files. A Safe Mode boot won't
    work since it only removes cache data from the user account you do a safe
    boot to.
    If after that the problem returns, then Lucida Grande itself is damaged and
    needs to be replaced.

  • How can I display special characters of NonEuropean languages (French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.) using import string mechanism

    I would like to translate the User Interface of my application to French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
    When I put special characters in the import string file they showed up as ? (question mark)
    The import strings file includes the following parameters for each string: font, text, size and style. (but no field for script)
    In order to use a unicode font such as Arial I need to select a french script. But this option is not supported bu LabView (As far as I saw)
    A) Is there a font which is directly German/ French etc and not regula font + script parameter?
    B) Are there another required step
    s for special characters support? (When I put speciual characters in the import string file the showed up as ? question mark)

    This was discussed last week in this group- read the previous messages.
    Look for the thread "Foreign Languages in Labview"
    And recite the mantra
    ActiveX is good
    ActiveX is holy
    All Hail Bill
    Those who claim otherwise are heretics and not to be trusted
    Actually, in this case the non-ActiveX suggestions may be good.

    I use classical Hebrew for my work, and Pages will only display English characters even with a Hebrew font selected. If I cut and paste Hebrew characters from another document, as long as the font is supported, it will appear in Pages.  If I type it won't continue in Hebrew.  I have tried downloading several fonts, including those from professional societies, but the only way to get Hebrew in my document is to cut and paste.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I use an older MacBook running OS 10.9.1.  I used to do my Hebrew work in Word, but it is no longer supported by Mac OS.

    Just clarifying:
    Pages '09 has bad support for Hebrew, Arabic etc but will accept pasted text.
    Pages 5 has much better support but with bugs.
    If you have columns they are in the wrong order ie Text starts in the left column and ends in the right column.
    If you type English into Hebrew text it tends to fall in the wrong position eg instead of to the left of Hebrew punctuation it goes to the right.
    As Tom recommends the only real solution on the Mac is Mellel.

    btw Tell Apple, they are amazingly slow to fix this running sore which has been broken since RtoL was supposedly introduced in OSX 10.2.3 over a decade ago.

  • ITunes 10.1.6.7 update has broken my foreign font display - Asian characters are now squares. How do I fix this?

    The iTunes 10.1.6.7 update has broken my foreign font display - Asian characters are now squares.
    They are fine on my iPhone, copying to other documents & through the Last FM scrobbler, yet iTunes shows songs incorrectly. I've fiddled with the ID3/Unicode settings - nothing changes.
    For example: iTunes shows a bunch of squares, yet when I copy and paste them here it becomes ~  일렉트로보이즈
    This was not a problem earlier - everything was fine in the four years or so I've used iTunes until, I believe, this update. If it was not the update, I'm not sure what else it could be?
    Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thank you!

    Thank you so much! I vigorously searched around these parts and the general internet before posting and found nothing - it's so simple, too
    Hahaha, turns out it was Windows, not iTunes, that broke my font

  • Problem displaying Arabic characters in PDF using Java APIs

    We are experiencing a problem when attempting to display Arabic characters within a PDF document using the Java APIs.
    The relevant Java code is as follows:
    RTFProcessor processor = new RTFProcessor("example.rtf" );
    processor.setOutput( “example.xsl” );
    processor.setExtractXLIFF(true);
    processor.process();
    ByteArrayOutputStream dataOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    DataProcessor dataProcessor = new DataProcessor();
    dataProcessor.setDataTemplate( example.xdt" );
    if( parameterValues != null && parameterValues.length > 0 )
    setReportParameters( dataProcessor, parameterValues ); // method to set any report parameters from the parameterValues list.
    dataProcessor.setConnection( jdbcConnection );
    dataProcessor.setOutput(dataOut);
    dataProcessor.processData();
    FOProcessor foProcessor = new FOProcessor();
    foProcessor.setLocale( locale );
    foProcessor.setData( new ByteArrayInputStream( dataOut.toByteArray() ) );
    foProcessor.setTemplate( “example.xsl” );
    String xliffFileNameAndPath = getXLIFFFile( “example”, locale );
    if( xliffFileNameAndPath != null )
    foProcessor.setXLIFF( xliffFileNameAndPath );
    foProcessor.setOutput( "example.pdf" );
    foProcessor.setOutputFormat(
    outputFormat == PDF_FORMAT ? FOProcessor.FORMAT_PDF : FOProcessor.FORMAT_HTML );
    foProcessor.generate();
    The method getXLIFFFile( ) gets the relevant XLIFF file for the supplied report locale (if it exists) – the three test files that we used were Italian (example_it_IT.xlf), Spanish (example_es_ES.xlf) and Arabic (example_ar_AE.xlf).
    I imported the following JAR files from the XML Publisher release (version 5.6.2) into my Java application: collections.jar, i18nAPI_v3.jar, versioninfo.jar, xdocore.jar and xmlparserv2.jar.
    The output is OK for all three translations in HTML format, using a charset of UTF-8, and for Italian and Spanish in PDF format. However, the Arabic characters display as question marks in PDF format. The same issue occurs if I stream the output as a byte array straight to the HTTP response rather than save within a file.
    Note that the same RTF, XDT and XLIFF files produce the correct output in both HTML and PDF when executed within XMLPublisher.
    Thank you

    Hi
    I had a similar issue with arabic chars. With PDF layout, chars were appearing properly when preveiwd on local m/c, but as I implement file on server, it was displayed as ?????. I had raised a TAR 5798348.993 with oracle about this and they suggested to apply patch 4028294 Oracle Sourcing J Rollup and then patch 4182914. But later my users changed requirement and i cud not apply the patch to test if it works fine.
    But here, you have suggested that installing fonts would do. Is it really that simple? If yes, dont know what is that patch for which I was told to apply.

  • JS Display international characters

    I've recently posted a script that makes a font catalogue.  One of the comments I got was if it could display international characters Russian for example. Would anyone have any suggestion as to how I might go about this?  I've got a couple of changes I need to make to the script and it would be good to include this request as well.
    Cheers.

    Although your working sample displays three different scripts (Latin; Greek; Cyrillic), it's of No Importance At All. It's the different languages that count.
    So for French and Italian, you would add:
    var myLetters = (localize({
        en: 'ABCDESFGHIJKLMNOPQRTSUVWXYZ.....%^&*()',
        ru: 'ФИСВУАПРШОЛДЬТЩЗЙКЫЕГМЦЧНЯ......%:?*()',
        el: 'ΑΒΨΔΕΦΓΗΙΞΚΛΜΝΟΠ;ΡΣΤΘΩςΧΥΖ......%^&*()',
        fr:'Une message simple : ça marche!',
        it:'Non ho idea di come dire qualcosa di utile in italiano'
    You appear to think your myLetters variable ought to hold the allowable set of characters per language. Well ... no. Translating something does not (ever, if I'm correct) amount to transposing each character into another.
    Take, for example, the Greek word for Greece. The alternative English name Hellas comes from Ελλάδα, but if you would somehow translate it one character at a time, you get "Ellada".
    You should think of myLetters as a message instead. Suppose your script may display an alert
    alert ("Bad input. You'll have to start all over again!");
    then you can make a list for this message alone:
    var badInputMsg = (localise({
      en:"Bad input. You'll have to start all over again!",
      el:"Λάθος εισροών. Θα πρέπει να ξεκινήσει ξανά από την αρχή!",
      es:"Entrada incorrecta. Vas a tener que empezar todo de nuevo!",
    etc., for every language you care to include, and for every message and text string you add to your script as well.

  • Displaying Chinese Characters in a JLabel

    I wish to display Chinese characters in a JLabel WITHOUT setting the JLabel's font. The following code works fine under Java 1.4.x for Mac OSX, and Java 1.5 for Windows. However, the characters do NOT display properly under Java 1.4.x for Windows. Does anyone have any idea why? I really need to get this to work under 1.4.x for Windows without having to call JLabel.setFont(...). Maybe it's a known bug in 1.4.x that has a workaround (hopefully)?
            javax.swing.JFrame frame = new javax.swing.JFrame("Chinese Test");
            JLabel label = new javax.swing.JLabel("\u54C8\u7F57", javax.swing.JLabel.CENTER);
            frame.getContentPane().add(label, java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER);
            frame.getContentPane().setSize(200, 200);
            frame.setLocation(50, 50);
            frame.setSize(200, 200);
            frame.setVisible(true);

    1. I do not wish to set the Font on the label(s) because we have localized our application in many languages using a custom localization scheme and I do not want to change all of the code.
    2. Yes, I have all the forms of Chinese installed on my Windows system.
    3. I found that if I use an HTML string of the form: <html><body><font face="SimSun">\unicode chinese chars...
    then THAT WORKS. The JLabel renders the String in Chinese. This might be a good option for us.
    4. All of it works automatically without the need for an HTML String under Java 1.5 because evidently 1.5 has built-in support for setting the proper font on the widget after analyzing the unicode characters.

  • How display chinese characters?

    Hi all,
         I want to display chinese characters in JTextPane/JTextField. I code a small program to try but can't get the correct result. The following is my program.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class TestBig5 extends JFrame {
         public TestBig5() {
              String str = readInput();
              JTextField tp = new JTextField();
              tp.setFont(new Font("Kai (big5.eten.3.10-1)",Font.PLAIN,16));
              tp.setLocale(Locale.TAIWAN);
              tp.setText(str);
              getContentPane().add(tp);
              pack();
              setVisible(true);
    static String readInput() {
    StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
    try {
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("testbig5.txt");
    InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(fis, "Big5");
    Reader in = new BufferedReader(isr);
    int ch;
    while ((ch = in.read()) > -1) {
    buffer.append((char)ch);
    in.close();
    return buffer.toString();
    } catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return null;
         static public void main(String args[]) {
              new TestBig5();
    The problem is that the JTextField only shows blank space.
    testbig5.txt is a text file that contains big5 encoding characters.
    "Kai (big5.eten.3.10-1)" is the only chinese font in my system, and I can use it to display chinese characters in netscape. And the file testbig5.txt can also be displayed in netscape correctly.
    I have also tried to use font.properties.zh_TW_Big5 but still no success.
    please advise what should I do so that the problem can be fixed. And following is my system config.
    Sco unix 5.0.5
    JDK 1.2.2
    Thanks in advance.
    Anson

    (1) First of all use FileReader and not inputstreams. The diff. is that streams are not unicode compliant whereas readers are.
    (2) Similary use only generic fonts.For example, this prints fine for me
    jTextField1.setFont(new java.awt.Font("Serif", 0, 12));
    jTextField1.setText("Serif \u65e5\u672c\u8a9e");

  • Displaying Chinese Characters in JFrame

    I was trying out some sample code in "Java Internationalization" for Chinese, and I am having problems viewing Chinese characters in JFrame. They show up as squares/rectangles instead of glyphs. I read that I needed to download Microsoft's Arial Unicode. I went to the site and discovered that Microsoft's TrueType core fonts for the Web are no longer available for download.
    Am I doing something wrong in the code? If the code is OK what should I do?
    The following is code based out of the O'Reilly book:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class NoInChinese extends JPanel {
    static JFrame frame;
    static String aSentence = "No in Chinese is, \u4e0d.";
    public NoInChinese(String characters) {
    Font theFont = new Font("Bitstream Cyberbit", Font.PLAIN, 20);
    JTextArea area = new JTextArea(characters, 2, 30);
    area.setFont(theFont);
    area.setLineWrap(true);
    JScrollPane scrollpane = new JScrollPane(area);
    add(scrollpane);
    public static void main(String argv[]) {
    NoInChinese chinesePanel = new NoInChinese(aSentence);
    frame = new JFrame("Test");
    frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
    public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {System.exit(0);}
    frame.getContentPane().add("Center", chinesePanel);
    frame.pack();
    frame.setVisible(true);

    Thanks fsato4, i have set the font to SimSun and can display the chinese char in unicode.
    However, i modified the source code a little to read from resource bundle. Here's my codes:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.util.Locale;
    import java.util.ResourceBundle;
    import java.text.MessageFormat;

      public NoInChinese(Locale currentLocale,String characters) {
        messages = ResourceBundle.getBundle("rb",currentLocale);
        JTextArea area = new JTextArea(characters, 10, 30);
        area.setFont(font);
        area.setLineWrap(true);
        area.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
        // this line will show glyph.
        //area.append(convert(messages.getString("FileMenu")));
        // this line will show the correct char
        area.append(convert(messages.getString("FileMenu")));
        area.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
        area.append(convert(messages.getString("EditMenu")));
        area.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
        area.append(convert(messages.getString("CancelMenu")));
        JScrollPane scrollpane = new JScrollPane(area);
        add(scrollpane);
      public static String convert(String theString) {
        String theNewString = theString;
        // String encoding = "CP1252";
        String encoding = "ISO-8859-1";
        String newEncoding = "GB18030";
        if (newEncoding != null) {
          try {
            byte[] convertedBytes = theString.getBytes(encoding);
            theNewString = new String(convertedBytes, newEncoding);
          } catch (Exception e) {
            System.err.println("Not able to convert " +
                                encoding + " " + newEncoding);
        return theNewString;
      public static void main(String args[]) {
        Locale currentLocale = new Locale("zh", "CN");
        NoInChinese chinesePanel = new NoInChinese(currentLocale,aSentence);
        frame = new JFrame("Test");
        frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
          public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {System.exit(0);}
        frame.getContentPane().add("Center", chinesePanel);
        frame.pack();
        frame.setVisible(true);
    }If i just read the unicode string from the resource bundle and display, glyph char will display. I have to use the convert method to read in as encoding "ISO-8859-1" then form a new string with GB18030, then i am able to see the display correctly.
    Why is this so?
    My resource bundle file looks like that:
    FileMenu=\u00ce\u00c4\u00bc\u00fe
    EditMenu=Edit
    CancelMenu=\u00c5\u00c5\u00b3\u00fd
    Thank you!

  • Dynamic Text Field is not displaying foreign characters... HELP!

    I have a dynamic text field that is not displaying foreign characters properly. They appear as boxes.
    Here's what I've tried.
    Under properties for the text field, I clicked on the embed characters button. In there, I pasted all the special characters I would need and clicked okay. Shouldn't this be enough for the text to display properly? What am I missing? Please help...

    More info: I'm noticing that in the actual dynamic text field in my .FLA file, if I type a foreign character like é, it pops up as a block. My family font is set to New Caledonia... is it possible that New Caledonia doesn't have those particular glyphs? The thing that doesn't make sense to me though is, last year when I made this card, it worked fine with New Caledonia... Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Hi Experts,
    Can we display special characters in ALV reports? Special characters such as tick mark.(Like in character map(Font Bookshelf  Symbol 7) of windows ).
    I tried with icons in ALV report, I was able to display tick icon in the ALV report, but when we export the report in to a excel, the icons comes in as Hexadecimal code.
    Can any we display special characters like tick in ALV report or display the icons in excel aswell?

  • How to display special characters in APEX Classic Report column

    Ref: Thread: How to display newline characters as new lines
    Version: APEX 3.2
    Hi,
    I have created an classic SQL Report with one of the columns being a decode that gives a value 'Post'(the value should be highlighted in Red) on one condition and 'Pre' on another. I have followed the advice given in the page (URL provided above) , i.e. I have changed Strip HTML to 'No', changed Display as to 'Display as text (escape special characters, does not save state)'. I have also passed this value back to the same page to be stored in a page item each time a link (another column in report) in report is clicked. I have tried passing it as #DEADLINE# and \#DEADLINE#\. The issue I face is, instead of the value being highlighted in Red, it gets passed back as a string holding the value 'Post'. Is there any way I can get this to display as it should without the Strip HTML being changed to 'Yes'.
    Thanks very much.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
    I am trying to display a page item that is derived from a report column based on a click on the URL link (*view >*>)
    This page item (here, it is Manager_ID) should ideally be highlighted when a particular condition is satisfied (achieved using a DECODE in the report).
    But it is not displayed like it should be.
    I do not want the value to be displayed along with the html tags as a string.
    I want the html tags to take effect and highlight the value within it.
    Initially, I had set Strip HTML to Yes and the value was returned without any highlighting .
    So I changed it to 'No' and and it contained the html tags.
    I am not sure what setting in APEX Report Attributes can help me achieve that effect I want.None of the report settings are relevant. They affect the rendering of the report and none of the columns you were changing the properties of were actually rendered.
    You can't pass HTML and CSS around in URL parameters.
    I suggest you pass *2* values in the column link: the MGR ID and a simple class or colour value computed by the DECODE in the report. I've suppressed the first version of the report and created a new one that does this:
    decode(dept.deptno, '30', 'c00', '000') highlight The link column now passes the MGR ID and the HIGHLIGHT colour (red when the condition is satisfied and black when it is not).
    I created another hidden and protected page item <tt>P0_HIGHLIGHT</tt> as the target for the highlight value, and used the Pre/Post Element Text properties of the <tt>P0_G_MGR</tt> to wrap it in a <tt>span</tt> whose colour is changed using the <tt>P0_HIGHLIGHT</tt> value as a subtitution string:
    <span style="color: #&P0_HIGHLIGHT.;">Having done that, I still don't really get the requirement here. I'm sure that given the full picture I'd be using a completely different approach...
