Xi sizing doc
Is there any sizing document available for XI?
I am looking for info on migration efforts - say from BC or something like that in general.
Thanks,

HT4356 Why does my air printer only print about 60% sized docs and not full size?
When I try to print using air print to my Epsom printer, I get printouts that are about 60% of the page and not full pages. How can I rectify this?
What app are you printing from and what model Epson printer do you have?

Reader 10.1.2 prints half-sized
I am trying to print .pdf documents from Reader 10.1.2 on a Windows 7 machine.
The documents are 8.5" x 11", and I am printing to 8.5" x 11" paper. I have tried setting the Size option to both Fit and Actual Size. The Page Setup and printer Properties both are set correctly. The preview shows the proper size & dimensions. But the printed page is reduced to half-size and shifted to one side of the page, as if set to booklet print. Printing multi-page documents, odd-numbered pages print on the top half of the page, while even-numbered pages print on the bottom half. Multiple Landscape-oriented pages print 2-up on a single page.
Other applications (MS Office, web pages, etc.) print normally: letter-sized docs print letter-sized. Why is Reader not printing properly?Dear user,
If your print option is coming as disabled/gray, it implies your file is either secured/password protected or you don't have print rights over it.
Check with other pdfs, I am sure that they will print fine.
Hope you get my point and this will solve your problem.
Thanks

Does anyone have any details on sizing forms 6i Server (patch 7)
on 9iAS. I'm migrating a Forms 4.5 character mode application
to Forms 6i Web enabled and trying to size the middle tier. Any
advice / tips / gotchas would be appreciated.
ThanksRob, the sizing doc is a good place to start. I am currently
working on a project where I need to scale to 500 concurrent
Forms users. The general rule for f60webm process on Solaris is
12-15mb of RAM per concurrent user. Our app is running at 15mb.
(So much for Forms optimizations). That equates to 7.5Gb of Ram
across multiple nodes to accommodate the forms users. That does
not account for the other processes of O9iAS as well as the OS
level processes.
I usually start with 128Mb-512Mb minimum for O9iAS (depending on
services running, lets say its just forms runtimes using the
servlet 128Mb.) Add about 25Mb of Ram for each Jserv engine you
want running, and each Jserv engine supports 100 concurrent
forms users without running into degradation.
About 128Mb for Solaris but 256Mb minimum is better.
Where are we at: 256Mb + 128Mb + 25Mb + (15Mb x # Users) = Total
Ram needed. Add 10% to that.
Disk space needed is determined by what you need to do with it.
We simply need enough to mirror system partitions, and module
deployment directories. Your mileage may vary.
Hope it helps. -- Al -
Console errors (multiple, 60-some) -- "value of separation out of range"
I have a long, 128 page chapter.
I was getting a "font not found, substitute Times New Roman for MS Shell Dlg 2" console message when I
opened the file.
An online search turned up the suggestion that if you can't actually find the font in your doc, to get rid of it, saving the file as MIF, and opening
and re-saving to FM, might solve the problem. ("If the font isn't really there to begin with.")
It didn't work. The console error message from opening the MIF file says, **The "MS Shell Dlg 2" Font is not available. "Times New Roman"
will be used in this session.**
On top of which, that same console error window also has about 60 lines with a different numerical variation of:
MIF: "K:\Technical Publications Current Projects\00 yadda yadda filename.mif" (126817): Value of Separation out of range (11).
The messages are all the same, only the six digit numbers in parantheses change.
I'm on a (relatively) NEW Dell Precision T1500 box with 64 bit Win 7 & FM 9.0p255. All graphics in the file were imported by reference into
anchored frames from a "graphics n pix" folder in the same directory as the FM file.
....I don't know if this is really a problem or not, but the filie does take a heck of a long time to open, and there's
usually a paranthetical note in the window top bar, following the FM file name, that says Windows (not responding.)
Which goes away when the file does open. (In 2 or 3 minutes? Haven't put a stopwatch on it....)
This file is just one of many similarly sized docs, so I'm a little worried about what might happen when they're all collected
into the book file.
Any suggestions, info or advice would be much appreciated.Thanks.If the font isn't found -- for whatever reason, in whatever kind of object -- could I do
a workaround by installing the missing font? In this case, MS Shell Dlg 2. (Whatever the
heck that is, assuming I can find it available somewhere.)
...Oops, wait, MS Shell Dlg 2 isn't really a font at all, here's what I found:
The following is an excerpt from the Microsoft MSDN Library, April 2000:
“MS Shell Dlg is a mapping mechanism that enables U.S. English Windows NT/Windows 2000 to support locales that have characters that are not contained in code page 1252. It is not a font but a face name for a nonexistent font. It can be specified in either the Windows NT/Windows 2000 Setup file during the installation process or when customizing a local system by double-clicking Control Panel's Regional Options icon. When you double-click the icon, click the Set default ... button in the General sheet of the Regional Options dialog box. Select the appropriate locale in the Select System Locale dialog box and click OK, then restart the system. The appropriate change occurs in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\FontSubstitutes
A benefit of font mapping in the registry is that you can change the font for the entire shell by simply changing one .inf file entry. For example, localization for Asia is much easier because you can change the .inf file entry, instead of changing every instance of MS Sans Serif in every .rc and .dlg file, and the change is complete without rebuilding any binaries. Win32-based applications that contain multiple language resources that cross character-set boundaries can also take advantage of this feature. It is also useful when you have an English application in which supporting multiple languages and character sets is important.
So in this case, the workaround is to find and change an ".inf file entry?" -
Can only print in 4x6 size from Adobe Reader - Help!
When printing letter sized docs using Adobe Reader, in the preview print box it says the size of my preview is 4 x 6. I can't find anywhere to change this to letter size. My page scaling is set at Fit to Printable Area. Adobe Reader thinks the output size is 4 x 6 - how do I change this?

Minimum Hardware Requirements for MDM 5.5 SP2
What is the minimum hardware requirements for MDM 5.5 SP2? For what I am doing, I expect to have 25-50K records stored in it.
The question is clear but answers may vary from one repository to another. How many fields your main record will have, how big lookup tables will be, how complex your taxonomy with attributes will be, and so on. But! The good news is you may try it even on your laptop. I got an impression it's for your own playing and experiments but not production yet. If you computer allows to run MSSQL and it has other I'd say 50-100Mb of memory free it may be enough. But again, it really varies.
For production-oriented precise estimations you can read an official sizing doc at SMP - quick link /instguidesnw04
The rule of thumb - the faster/bigger computer the better:-) -
Loading Performance & Capacity
Hello,
I got some questions regarding to number of data loaded into SAP-BW.
If <b>SAP-BW Hardware spec.</b> is:
CPU: Ultra SPARC3 12 x 1200 MHz
Memory: 48 GB
Internal disks: 2 x 73 GB
Database size 140 GB
Available Space is: 64 GB
I wonder if there are data ~ 4,225,000 records (maximum)tended to be loading into SAP-BW, could the server is able to handle this number of data in the future.
I'm not sure if there is anyone has any concerns according to the information provided above.
-WJ-hi WJ,
the info not sufficient, you may need detail data model of that ~ 4,225,000 records and try to estimate with following sizing doc

Problem with JPanel sizing!
Hi,
Just having a bit of difficulty with the sizing of JPanels. For example, if I create a JPanel and add it to a Frame, no matter what I set the size to the JPanel fills the entire Frame. I don't really know whats going on here and I'm just making guesses! If anyone has a good resource on the whole sizing thing or can point out what I'm doing wrong, that would be great. Thanks!
// Constructor
public void ClassName()
mainWindow = new JFrame();
mainWindow.setSize(mainWindowWidth, mainWindowHeight);
mainWindow.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
JPanel aPanel = new JPanel();
aPanel.setSize(mainWindowWidth/2,mainWindowHeight/2); );
aPanel.setBackground(Color.GREEN);
mainWindow.add(aPanel);
mainWindow.validate();
}Edited by: LeWalrus on May 18, 2009 5:03 AMBy default, JFrame uses a BorderLayout which gives the center component (your panel in this case) all available height and width.
For absolute positioning you need to use a null layout.
If you want a layout manager that can let your panel fill half the height/width, I think it might be possible with GridBagLayout or more recommended MiGLayout (but that adds a third party jar dependency).
See the [layout tutorial|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/index.html]. -
Help with adjusting layout, re-sizing text frames and images to fit new margin?
i'm using InDesign CS5.5. I have a layout with several text frame boxes as well as some jpg and pdf images. I'm expanding the margin on one side and want to expand the text frames to utilize the extra space rather than just shift everything over. I've used the adjust layout script (which still requires some manual adjustment after) and obviously everything can be done manually but I'm looking for a more efficient solution. One challenge is that my pdf image needs to be re-sized separately to maintain scale of the image, the text frames just expand horizontally. What I would like is to have is a script that can do all of this at once, or is there a way to save the layout settings and apply them to my other documents? I have almost 300 documents to adjust... Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks.
It could probably be modified to run on all open docs or a folder. You should ask over in scripting. InDesign Scripting

How to print both letter and legal size docs at same time with two trays
I have an HP Laser Jet P2055dn printer. How can I print both letter and legal docs at same time?
Not quite sure what you mean by "print both letter and legal docs at same time".
If you mean that sometimes you want to print a document on Letter size paper, and at other times you want to print a different document on Legal sized paper, then all that is neccessary is to ensure that:
The printer knows what Paper Size (e.g. Letter or Legal) is present in each tray; on many LaserJet devices, the size is detected automaticaly by sensors in each tray (except for the drop-down tray), but some devices may require that you set the size via front panel menus, or (for network models) via the Embedded Web Server equivalent.
You may also need to specify what Paper Type (e.g. Plain or Letterhead) is present in each tray, in order to distinguish between two or more trays which have the same paper size loaded.
Within your appllcation / print preferences, ensure that you select the required combination of size and type for the document.
But if you mean how do you print a document with some pages on one size of paper, and other pages on a different size, this may only be possible with bespoke applications and/or printer drivers.
