  • Portal consultant

    Hi,
I have implemented ESS & MSS in EP6.0. I have modified some ESS services in R/3 SAP4.7 and created IACs in Portal and it is working fine. For MSS services i implemented the std services and hence no customization needed.I know BSP programming and created some BSP iviews too for ESS and MSS.
I know how to work in <b> PCD </b>(Content Mgt & User managment).I never worked with other Portal tools like <b> NWDS,Visual composer etc.. </b>.Is this knowledge very much expected for a Portal developer? From the weblogs i come to know Java knowledge is must for EP implementation. But still i am in confusion.
Please suggest me  whther its mandatory so that i can tell myself as a Portal consultant.

  • Objective of a Portal Consultant

    Hi Friends,
Please excuse me as iam posting a non-technical question here.
I am a Programmer analyst working in ABAP. For better prospects and out of curiosity i have chosen Portal Development to explore. As far as i have explored it seems to be a mere web-page designing job. Is it so?. What else we gotta do as a portal developer?. I want to tell my friends and colleagues that iam not doing a simple job here.
       Please clarify my doubts.
    Regards,
    Tamilarasan.

I can assure you that being a portal consultant is not merely a web developer. To be a really good developer in the portal space you will need to know
    1) Java
    2) How the portal hangs together
    3) Portal APIs and how to use them
    4) Performance enhancing tricks
    5) Backend systems (potentially), R3, Documentum, BW, CRM
    6) Business Packages, how to install and configure them
This is to name but a few. The more you know the better.
I hope this alleviates some of your concerns

  • Skills needed for Portal

    Hi All,
I am an ABAP consultant. I am trained in Web Dynpro ABAP.
I have a working knowledge on creation of i-Views.
What are the additional skills needed for maintaining a Enterprise Portal.
Is Java knowledge needed for this. If yes please provide the topics that I need to understand in Java.
            Thank you all in advance.

    Hello,
You will have to know the different components and what kind of configuration is possible out of the box within the enterprise portal i.e KM, Collab for example. Also general administration tasks - system creation, SSO federation. Getting into portals is easy being a good portal consultant is challenging to some since you would need to wholistic view of the landscape internet facing , intranet portal. Good to have also is a view of what portals other than SAP EP offer the same or better features.
Java is needed if you have to customize any existing component or if you want to build new components either in java or WD 4J
You may require muchmore than these but then as a starter you can install a portal on your local pc and explore the world
    Good Luck!!!

  • New Business Model: What kind of consultant will arise?

Some evangelists predict the 'death of the consultant' as is there. To what extent we will be affected by this revolution?
"With the availabilty of the HANA technology, exisiting business processes become real-time, process steps become obsolete, new process will evolve that were not possible so far and companies will invent new business models based on new products and services - all that requireed consultants who support that transition!"
    Michael Lamade (OpenSAP Team)
"Future does not have to be an increment of the past."
Dr. Vishal Sikka, quoting Alan Kay in "An Introduction to SAP HANA"
    What do you think?

I don't believe BW is really dying as a "modeling environment".
What might probably happen is for BW to disappear as an additional persistence layer (the BW Box), i.e. the Embedded BW scenario tends to gain more and more visibility. With virtual infoproviders and transformations being pushed down to the HANA layer, you can get pretty much the same results than a persistent BW with very good performance and 1/10th of the data footprint (zero replication).
This is already true today. Check for example the details on the analytical applications on top of SFIN (Smart Financials) 1.0. SFIN is the new FI module (aka HANA GL), rebuilt from scratch on top of HANA. i.e it is the first piece of ERP that was not adapted but born on top of an in-memory architecture. It was what HANA was developed for in the first place (i.e. the next-generation SAP ERP architecture). And its analytical applications, for example the new SAP Smart Cash Management app, are completely built on top of Virtual Infoproviders in Embedded BW (i.e. BW as a LDW, Logical Data Warehouse). This means the modeling skills of BW Consultants are not gonna disappear, they'll still be required since BW infoproviders on top of VIPs, Composite Providers, BEx Queries etc. are all gonna be there for a long, long time.
More details on SFIN analytical apps:

BI Content for SAP Smart Cash Management - SAP Library
Adaptations for Smart Financials Planning Applications - Integrated Business Planning - SAP Library
SAP delivers the following planning applications:
Cost center planning on years and periods
Project planning on years and periods
Internal order planning on years and periods
Market segment planning on years and periods
Profit center planning on years and periods
Functional area planning on years and periods
P&L planning on years and periods
These applications consist of “local” BI content. “Local” means that this BI content is shipped with the Smart Financials system and not with the “central” BI content. Local content runs on the ERP system directly using the “Embedded BW” and does not need a separate BW installation. The content for Smart Financials planning consists of HANA views, InfoProviders, MultiProviders, Aggregation Levels, Queries, Filters, Planning functions, Planning sequences, and Analysis Workbooks.
Another point is that this means that the investments that SAP customers have made on top of BW are also going to be protected.
They just need to adapt the Data Source layer to the new ODP (Operational Data Provisioning) concept and the rest will pretty much work as is.
The same adaptions are being made by SAP in the standard BI Content.
    Best regards,
    Henrique.

  • Training and Event Management Calendar in Portal iView

Has anyone implemented Training and Event management in the portal and if so, how did you develop the Calendar iView?
Did you use WebDynpro, .NET, or some other method?
    Your assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Donna Maupin

    Hello,
From what I recall, TEM in ESS can be configured via ITS based service iviews.
There are some services like PV3I, PV7I, PV8I etc which you can find out using tcode SICF.
The portal consultant can then create ITS based iviews for these services.
Since you are using EHP5, I think these services are now obselete. Please check further on this.
As mentioned earlier, you can go for the LSO rather than TEM.
    Best Regards.
    Karan.

  • Purchase order not visble for confirmation in SRM 7.0 portal

    Hi all,
I am basically a portal consultant .The functional consultant configured in such a way that once the user creates a shopping cart it will create a Purchase order.
But when i go into central confirmation role  and click on create confirmation document and search for the Purcahse order it is not getting displayed.
But There are some 11 pos in the system with 9 pos of  status order and  2 pos status saved.
Please help me in resolving this.
    Thanks and regards,

Hope you might have some option called Express confirmation. check it up.
You can use this business process to confirm the receipt of goods. In SAP SRM, purchasers can create confirmations themselves, even if the purchase order is in the back-end system. It is possible to create express confirmations directly in the Check Status application without having to switch to another application.
Alternatively, an internal dispatcher or shipping department can take delivery of goods and confirm centrally. In this case, an additional approval workflow through the supplier is possible. Then, the goods receipt is posted in the back-end system.
You can also cancel an existing confirmation at item level. In addition to all of this, you can return partial quantities of individual items (or of all items) to your suppliers, and state the reasons for these return deliveries. These reasons are also transferred to the back-end system

  • Adhoc Query Execution / Portal Authentication

    Hi there,
When executing an adhoc query via the query designer I am asked to authenticate via the portal before the query is executed.
Is this the way it should work in netweaver 2004s ?  Or do we have a communication problem between portal & BW?
My portal consultant wasnt really able to give me any ideas.
    thanks
    Mark

    Hi,
You have any Idea on the User Administration mapping done in the Portal Iview?
I guess the Single Sign On done is not proper (SSO).You can achive this in the User Administration Properties of the System Created in Portal for BW. Portal Consultant will be the best person who can solve this.Else you can get the help of Basis who takes care the SSO.

  • Technical Specification for Enterprise Portal

Our EP consultant left without delivering Technical Specification. Now, we need to prepare this document mainly for handover to support team. Coming from BW background, I have little knowledge on what is expected in the document.
What I can think of at the moment are that we need to document the followings:
    1. Portal Content structure
    2. iViews Configuration
    3. Portal Display
Is there anything else missing? Or can someone share with me the structure of a complete Enterprise Portal Technical Specification?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi  M. Syuhair,
That's a rather unfortunate situation that you have walked into where the implementer has left without documentation.
I would start the document with a blueprint diagram of the platform landscape, with each of the logical instances purposes described. You should include the OS and DB versions and any specifics on security zoning you may have. Then move into a diagram for transport flows and description of the purpose of the Portal. i.e. used for BI and ESS/MSS scenarios.
Also I would describe the integration with the solution, how security is provided, what other components are integrated (i.e. document repositories), how transports are performed (CTS, NWDI etc) and what systems are connected and SLD connectivity. Also mention UWL and Adobe services if they are deployed and anything else that represents significant usage.
After this point you can dig deeper into the detail and provide a description of the details of the business packages with versions you have deployed to the portal (use the NWA to look up package versions if you donu2019t know this already) along with the name spaces and PCD hierarchy that has been chosen to ensure standards are followed during maintenance by the support team.
Remember your support staff should be starting with at a minimum a basic understanding of standard SAP Portal implementations so getting to the detail of how each iView is configured would be taking the document too far.
Your purpose of the document is in providing the framework for support to be able to know what standards they should follow and how to quickly find out the implementation specific details. This should be your objective.
Starting this from scratch without any portal experience is not advisable, I would suggest you engage another Portal consultant to perform the task as familiarity with the core solution is really a must.
    Regards
    Daniel

  • About GRC portal

    Hi All,
I am new to GRC and trying to understand the concept and process flow in GRC. I am basically a Portal Consultant, and was comparing the things between GRC portal and EP 7.0.
In what way are this both related and how I can use, suppose say some reports that are generated in GRC can be shown in EP. Please correct me if my thinking is wrong.
Also, would like to know, where exactly GRC fits in the Netweaver Architecture?
Provide me with some inputs on this.
    Thanks,
    Aman.

    Hello Aman,
GRC products are both JAVA as well as ABAP stack based.
Front end for all product is in either J2E - JAVA or WEBDYNPRO-JAVA.
So did you got idea how GRC fits in NW?
And now in GRC 5.3, they had enabled its integration with Portal through web services.
Kindly let me know if not clear.

  • Custom Infotype in Portal

    Hi Experts......
We have a Custom Infotype, which contains employees career history..... and now we want that custom infotype to be filled by all the employees through portal..... how to configure this....?
I think we should call the PA30 screen with that particular Infotype number, but how can we call that through portal?
      Thanking you in advance......
    Regards,

    Hi shree Vishnu
When you create a Infotype by default a structure HSMT_PA_XX_Rnnnn is created
this structure can be useful for creating your own BSP applications.
To call it to portal you will require to create a custom iview , a portal consultant can help you for this.
Ideally you can create a custom application in BSP/Web Dynpro which will update your custom Infotype in Backend. wait for some more answers if there is any way you can avoid developments
