'XiFL', Stereo, 48.000 kHz    --- NO SOUND

I was trying to open a .mkv file with the audio format
'XiFL', Stereo, 48.000 kHz
with quicktime 7
I can still see the picture, but there's just no sound.
Then I tried using VLC, iSubtitle, the results are the same - no sound.
I've got Perian DivX Flip4Mac installed. And all the other playbacks are just fine.
But this one with audio format 'XiFL', Stereo, 48.000 kHz just wouldn't make a sound...
I tried converting it to .mov and used Quicktime X to open it, it says that it can not play such a file even if it is a .mov file due to certain missing components. But previewing the .mov file is okay, with full picture, but still no sound.
I'm guessing it's some audio encoding component that I'm missing?
What's this 'XiFL' format anyway...
Please help me =. =

It could be a 'difficult' form of Matroska file. FYI Matroska is just a container like MOV or AVI, and some mkv have the video encoded with Real Video Codec (RV9 RV10). Perian+QT can't decode this, but VLC will play .mkv files just fine on OS X, as long as they don't use H.264!
It's a bit of a lottery until Matroska decide to support the Apple platform. I have found this:
http://mkv4mac.free.fr/index.php?lang=en&p=lec
which may help.
But there may be another workaround: 1. Get Info the mkv file
2. Change to extension to wmv. Save as wmv and that could work better.
Or this link may be helpful:

Recently, a poster (ZachP14) suggested this:
"There's a program called Plex that runs .mkv files awesome on my 2.0 ghz macbook."

Maybe worth a try?

  • Horrible audio capturing 2nd stereo channel 12  bit 32,000 kHz

    Hello,
I have DV tapes with 2 stereo channels 12 bit 32,000 kHz. I added a Capture Preset Editor with 16 bit 32,000 kHz 2nd 2 channels.
I captured only the sound of the second 2 channels.
The sound is horrible. At some places there is no sound, at other places noise.
How can I capture this audio with the same quality as when I play the DV tapes on my TV ?
    Thanks,
    Hubert

Use a preset that is 12bit.
Or make one, if one doesn't exist.

  • Sample Rate 48.001 not 48.000 kHz

    Hi,
Sometimes when I capture clips the resulting sample rate of the audio is 48.001. Then, in FCE HD, when playing the clip from the sequence there is a beeping over the normal audio, indicating I need to render the audio.
Does anyone have any advice to get my audio to import at 48.000 and not 48.001 kHz sample rate?
    I'm using a Sony TRV310 D8 camera. Computer is G5 Dual 2.3, QT7.0.2, FCE HD 3.0, Mac OS X 10.4.2. Capturing to stock 250GB hard drive.
    Thanks,
    Chad

Yes, easy setup is set to 48 kHz and my camera is set to 16 bit.
I have the feeling it has something to do with the start/stop points of the footage screwing things up somehow. The footage in question is of a soccer game, about 45 minutes in length and with about 20 start/stops.
FCE HD was set to "stop capture with dropped frames" and the capture (using "clip mode") was done with no perceivable problems.
For now I ended up doing the following workaround on the sound track portion (sorry, I can't remember who originally posted this):
Open your iMovie .dv file in Quicktime Pro.
    Extract the audio track
Export the audio track as a Quicktime Movie, Linear PCM format, Channels Stereo (L R), 48kHz, 16bit sample size
Delete the audio track from the .dv file
Open the exported audio file, select all and copy.
Select All in the .dv file
Add the exported Audio file using Add to Movie
Export/Save As the .dv file as a self contained Quicktime Movie
    Use this movie in FCE
Trouble is, the sound is slightly out of sync now (I suppose the sound file shrunk by a wee bit going from 48.001 to 48.000 kHz). For this footage the sync is not critical.
I'm still curious as to what exactly is going on with my captures.
    Thanks,
    Mace

  • Why can't I record in 96.000 khz sample rate ?

I am running Logic Pro 9.1.7 (1700.57) (32-bit). My computer is Mac OS 10.6.8. I am using a Duet Apogee
I have always recorded in 44.100 khz, but now someone has asked me to record in 96.000 khz. Everything is fine until I change the sample rate in Logic. Then I get a tinny, distorted sound, and this is for any audio I play through my computer, not just the track that's in Logoc. Is there a way out of this ?
    Thanks

You own the hardware and don't know how to use it?
Didn't you install some software for the Duet? Somewhere on your system will be a software applet that let's you change settings on the Duet.
I just took a quick look online.. the "Maestro software Mixer Applet". Try looking in Applications or Utilities.
Need to read up about what you're using. Do not change Duet settings with Logic running.
I don't own a Duet but all of this stuff works basically the same.

  • Does anyone know how to access the sound software on a Mid 2010 Mac Pro? I have a Logitech Z906 5.1 surround system with fiber optic in and out, I only seem to be able to get stereo and simulated 5.1 sound .

A mid 2010 Mac Pro, trying to get 5.1 surround out of the onboard sound software using fiber optic out connected to a Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker sys. with fiber optic in and out, all I get is stereo and simulated 5.1 sound out of the speakers. In utilities, Audio Midi Setup I can't get the Mac to see the Logitech speakers for 5.1 speaker configuration. Without being made to feel like a dummy, does anyone have a solution? Thanks, Carl

Hello John, I figured it was a signal issue. All the speakers fire and the sound is great. I was running the speakers thru a Dell PC with a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, THX Certified, 7.1 soundcard using a fiber optic from the Mac Pro to the Z906's, it worked great until the Dell died!!! When I bought the soundcard from Creative I also bought the GigaWorks S750, THX Certified, 700 watt, 7.1 speaker system, used the speakers for 11 years and then the woofer/amp said "I QUIT" Creative quit making the speaker system and the sound card. The satellite speakers from the Creative GigaWorks speaker system still sound great (rated at 78 watt each) and are a little better speaker than the one's that came with the Z906 and the wattage from the 906 is sufficient to drive the satellites without any distortion. Thank you for addressing my issue, you confirmed what I suspected all along, just needed to hear it from someone with the same setup.
One last question, I purchased a Diamond Multimedia USB Soundcard, can't use the fiber optic(not supported by Mac) but the green, tan and black RCA's plug in and produces adequetly. When you plug your 906's into the Mac Pro using the fiber optic how do you set your speaker configuration? When I plug into the mac pro with fiber optic the 'Audio Midi Setup' does not seem to see the 5.1 configuration. Any thoughts there?

  • BH501 stereo Bluetooth headset - v/poor sound

I have paired the Nokia headset with a Bluetake USB Bluetooth adapter and eventually obtained the stereo music through the headset.
The music played as good quality sound, though it was interrupted every 15 or 20 seconds even though I was sitting only 4 feet from the PC!
Then when I moved out of the room the music stopped completely.
Now it is difficult to reconnect the device even though I am again only 4 feet from the PC. When it does reconnect the music quality is very poor and also while the Status shows the signal is Good, the Activity is not changing at all!
I have updated the drivers and software for the USB adapter with no change in the sound.
Please can you tell me how to reconnect to this device with full data flow and the previous high quality music?
    Thank-you
    Nigel

I think it is a symptom of the information and knowledge at the user level with Bluetooth.
Not something which the user can be responsible for but the only Bluetooth documentation I have found is highly technical documents and lengthy specification and agreements.
The device documentation is as usual lamentably small and gives no information above basic.
In this particular question I found, because of lack of clear info, I was using the Headset service and should have used the AV service which gave a much improved quality.
    Thanks

  • Stereo Surround for Multi Channel Sounds Cards... Not Working

I have an Audidy 2 and utilize the Stereo Surround mode to listen to my music coming from all 5 of my speakers. I upgraded to iTunes 7 and noticed sound only from the left and right channels. I thought something had happened to the Sound Blaster setting, but it was still configured for 5.1 surround. I noticed all other sounds in Windows were coming in stereo surround... just not iTunes.
Prior to upgrading, version 6 allowed this functionality. It's nice to listen to the music in a large room coming from all speakers.
Has anyone else had this problem or can they duplicate it???

    It didn't work

  • How to turn stereo into 5.1 suround sound

Hello i have cs 5.5 i would like to take old vhs or 8mm video tapes and put them on dvd in 5.1 surround sound can anyone tell me how to spit stereo into the left center tight live left surround right surround every time i try my receiver kicks into Dolby d but the sound only comes threw the front left and tight can anyone help me and if so a step by step would be a great help.

This is gonna get complicated..so I'm gonna put pics in first and then explain them cause I dont remember what order I made the pics in...plus I'm an idiot so my explanation will be weird.. plus I never do this stuff can im using cs3...
basically this is what I did. created new project and in preferences chose 5.1 surround...chose a few mono track, a couple stereo tracks, a few submix tracks and some 5.1 tracks..something for everyone..
Then I put a real stereo wav file into a stereo track. The left and right sides were recorded so that it is REALLY stereo and very obvious ( old beatle song ).  You can tell by waveform how different left and right side of stereo wav file is...
then i opened soundforge and copied ONLY the left channel of the stereo wav file and saved it as a MONO file...so I can demonstrate THAT part..
using stereo wav and using 5.1 control you can put that wav into left front, right front, etc..but it puts it ALL there unless you play with stuff a LOT in your controls...to me its easier to make a mono wav file of the left side and just use that. I would have made a right side only wav ALSO if I was to continue with this project ...
above image is where you choose what to add to project
some controls ..you can assign to submix and you can use as a master..etc
above image is real stereo wav in stereo track..like yours...
above is making a mono track wav out of the stereo left side of original stereo wav..
above.. now if I put my mono wav into that track and move my dot to front left... I hear only the left part of the original stereo wav in the left front speaker... in essence I can put mono track of 'right' side into the right front speaker using another mono track and moving the dot.. I can also now put that stuff into the other speakers as desired..and mix the volumes etc in the sound controls ... know what I mean..you can do other stuff with the stereo only wav if you cant make mono tracks for more control...and play with the submix stuff etc.. this should get you started ??
ps.. I also made a stereo wav of the left side ONLY just in case you wanted to see what that looks like in a stereo track..but its only left side of original wav..
    good luck !

  • How can i add stereo or mono mix to sound mixer - Satellite Pro A100-196

I do not find this option in my sound settings, no mono or stereo under recording ?
is there any way to add this function to my laptop??
or is there any way else to do for sound settings to have them?

just think about the voice setting when you go to the record you should find mono and stereo. I have only mic volume -cd volume and line volume i should have mono mixer and stereo mixer also.
So can i add them to the list ?? For example when you use paltalk program you can play music from your computer in the room so all in this room can hear it eaven if you adjust your volume to mute, this is using mixer mono or stereo.
I hope i explane it for you. Thanx

  • My ITunes no longer plays in stereo.  Vocals on songs sound distant.

Just recently my ITunes has audio loss. All songs seem to be missing the vocal track. Vocals sound very distant and faint. I have played other videos in quicktime and audio is OK so I know it is not a wire connection problem. I have checked my equalizer and that seems OK. Help me obie one your my only hope

I was able to answer my own question (and save you the effort). Apparently, a loose connection in one of the mini cables was just enough to cause mono sound - without interrupting the sound altogether. As a result, it provided monaural playblack - a feature that's not covered in any guide books.

  • Cannot hear headphones in stereo. Feels like mono sounds.

After using this youtube example (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvJoYnpeRQ) to determine if my headphone is working or not I noticed that I can hear the left channel on the right side of my headphone and the right channel on the left side of my headphone (Essentially, I can hear both channels with just one side of the headphone). This is irritating me as when it comes to some games (Such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive where listening and determining where noises are coming from), it is crucial to learn where the sources of the audio is coming from. This even happens when I listen to music and I get confused if it's from the left side or the right side of the music when the music I listen to does take advantage of 2+ channels. I have tried it on my old laptop and it can listen to both channels seperately, just fine.
The laptop I am using the HP Envy 15-j058ca and I currently have the latest audio driver on it for 8.1 with the latest Windows updates. Is there something I can do to be able to listen the left and right channels on proper sides instead of hearing it as if it was mono? Thanks in advance!

Please try to update the PC's audio driver if you haven't done so already.

Once installed go to the audio control panel or click on the little sound icon on the bottom right corner of your screen and click on the little Speaker/Headphone Icon above the volume slider.
Once you do that, you will get a window like the one below with General tab highlited.
CLick on the Levels tab and then click on the Balance Button. Move the sliders to check if there is actually an issue with the RIght or Left channels and if the correct channels respond when you move the individual sliders.
    Also try with another Headphone.

  • Can I make my input/output audio 96.000 kHz & 32bit as default?

Just what the title said. I turned on Soundflower, and changed audio input and output to 96.000kHz and 32bit float. But will those settings remain after I close Soundflower? Will they stay the same after I turn off the machine?

  • No sound on XviD

First I had a white screen and no sound on XviD videos
    Info: XviD, 512 x 384, Unknown
MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    I installed the XviD_Codec v0.5.1.component.
Now I have video, but no sound. What am I missing?

Finally, I figured it out. I had to download the plug ins for xvid, which I had done. I downloaded everything I could from those plug ins and put them all in my main library/quicktime folder.

  • Tape has 12nit sound - how can i match this up in fcp?

Im trying to capture a tape with 12bit audio
Im using a dv pal sequence, dv tape,
audio presets appear to only allow 8bit, 16bit or 24bit how can i change the seq settings to match the tape - the tape is capturing out of sync.
Also, when playing back the tape on my cam, the fps are running oddly (viewable on cam lcd screen)- erratic - usually you can clearly see a steady 1234567891011...... whereas it seems to pause slightly, get faster, slower, etc... WEIRD!

your all comic geniuses, ive now sprayed all the nits. not as itchy as before which is nice.
    As for my 12bit prob....
    have used user '
    DitzlerPhoto' from post - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5800262&#5800262
    which is
    "Here is my solution...
#1 - Confirm that the audio is in 12bit. Put tape in camera and play it back with it not connected to the camera. Turn the "display" on so it shows the details of the recording over the video. The camera should be able to show you the bit depth of the audio.
#2 - Capture the clips with 12 bit audio with Apple iMovie. Save out the project and quit out of iMovie
#3 - iMovie will save one file to your hard drive. This is actually a folder with the details of your iMovie and the raw footage. Right clip on your iMovie file and select "Show Package Contents". This will open up the folder and then in the "Media" folder you will see the raw clips captured.
#4 - open the clips in Quicktime Pro. Go to the "get info" and confirm the clips are captured with audio as "DV, Stereo, 32.000 kHz".
#5 - convert audio only to 16 bit 48 kHz You can do this with Quicktime Pro or with another sound utility.
    a) with Quicktime Pro with your original video clip open select Window > Show Movie Properties. Then when that is open select the sound track and click Extract. This will open a new Quicktime window with only the audio file in it.
    b) now "export" this new audio file as 48 kHz 16 bit stereo
    c) open the new audio file and select all of the file with the play head then do a command "C" to copy it all
    d) go back to the original movie file and with the properties window open select the audio file and click on the delete button at the top of the window.
    e) position the playhead at the begining of the clip and select Edit > Add to Movie. This will paste your 48 kHz 16 bit audio in with the video track.
    f) save this movie out and import this into FCP
so far ive captured using imovie which has saved the captured file and its all in sync (YAY!)
SO all i would have to do is import into fcp, and render in timeline or export the audio as aiff - 48khz
