.xintirc not always starting openbox

Hi,
till now I managed to fix all problems with arch by investigating and reading but this one drives me crazy.
After I launch the "Your .xsession" from Qingy, Openbox starts if I am lucky but never if I use Qingy to start this session at startup.
#!/bin/sh
# ~/.xinitrc
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp &
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
[ -x "$f" ] && echo "$f" >> ~/.xinitrc.log && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi
exec /usr/bin/openbox-session
But if I change my .xsession so this:
#!/bin/sh
# ~/.xsession
# Executed by xdm/gdm/kdm at login
exec openbox-session
#/bin/bash --login -i ~/.xinitrc
Openbox starts always for me.
Does anyone has a clue for me, why I see this behavior from my netbook?
Regards,
Dominik

Inxsible wrote:Maybe something under your /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d is holding it up. Everything that you run from the .xinitrc should have a & at the end to background it sorta. If something gets held up, your
exec /usr/bin/openbox-session will not be executed.
Sorry, I didn't mention that I commented out the part of .xinitrc that calls the files in xinitrc.d. The only thing in there is dbus. So the only thing that I suspect is /bin/bash --login -i ~/.xinitrc not working but I have no clou about how to debug that.
Thank you for your input, it helped me think things over an I now go and check if I missed some thing.
Regards,
Dominik
edit:
I did some more testing and it didn't gave me more info but I think qingy and bash --login in combination are my problem because if i login first to a shell and startx all is well.

  • [SOLVED] systemd not alway starts dnsmasq and minidlna service

    Hi!
After I've annoyed some of you (and hopefully helped others) with my threads on systemd I got systemd working. But; I still have one problem. Systemd seems to have trouble starting dnsmasq and minidlna.
dnsmasq.service loaded failed failed A lightweight DHCP and caching DNS server
[email protected] loaded active running Getty on tty1
httpd.service loaded active running Apache Web Server
logitechmediaserver.service loaded active running Logitech Media Server Daemon
lvm.service loaded active exited LVM activation
minidlna.service loaded failed failed minidlna server
Sometimes they do load, sometimes not. Is there a way to find out why a service could not be started?
    btw
    systemctl start minidlna dnsmasq
    does start them perfectly

  • Shared Variable Engine not always started

I'm experiencing an intermittent problem with the LabVIEW variable engine.  The National Instruments Variable Engine service is configured to start automatically with Windows but that doesn't seem to always be the case.  Every now and then I'll load my application only to find red LED indicators on all of the controls accessing my shared variables.  I'll bring up the variable manager and stop/start the service, restart my application and then they're all green LEDs and everything works.  Any idea what might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    - Kevin Handy

Hi Kevin.  I don't know what causes the problem, but I have seen it on our systems as well.
Our solution was to have our application stop and then start the variable engine every time
it launches.  Stopping might not be ok for you depending on how your applications are
architected, but for us it is fine.
We use two System Exec.vi calls, with the following strings:
net stop "national instruments variable engine"
net start "national instruments variable engine"
Haven't had any instances of the application coming up w/o the variable engine since
    we added this initialization step.

  • MSI 270x Gaming tf - one fan not always start

    Hi,
i bought recently MSI 270x gaming and mine problem was high temperatures. I discovered that one of the fan doesnt work (it look like he had too less voltage to start). I touch him gently and he start work fine for few days (shut down pc for night). Sadly yesterday he wont start again on turn pc (it look like turn power up -> both fans start rotate few times, they stop and next they go on little higher rpm - this is moment when one of fans have troubles).
Fan look really fine, doesnt have any resistance to rotate when you touch him, its look more like problem with control from voltage system.
Its possible to change video card bios in way to give more power to fans on start (i think this will solve problem with not starting fan).
    Here is mine vbios h.ttp://www.filedropper.com/pitcairn

There have been several issues reported about fans on this card model. Seems a batch of this are simply bad. Contact MSI about it or contact reseller for rma. >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • My iMac will no always start only after a few push at the start button in the back then my iMac will start. I am worried this is happening, what is it?

My iMac will not always start after pressing the start button in the rear, sometimes I need to push 3 or 4 times for the pc to engage and start then will work fine up until next day when it may start properly or will need 3 or 4 pushes at the rear start button. Why is this happening? pls help!

I have the same issue  since long time now..it started since was new and i took it to one Apple repair service among other issues i had and they couldn't repair it. i finally im in progress now to find by my self what is happening..AC is never stable and power supplies have a tolerance to work inside this tolerance. And this is is their work too..to stable and convert ac to dc to make a pc work.so i dont think is something at your wall outlet..
unless you are using some kind of UPS..and dont fuctioning properly.. Start up button works for a moment giving a power commant to logic board  to open the power supply..in generally
If something not meet that never start up.. Among other issues that maybe from hard drive and many more if the power button is fail you will need a new housing.. Apple say that.
Any way i hope your problem fixed. Mine is on investigate..

    Thanks,

Tom wants you to run Disk Utility from the install disc and then select your boot volume and then click "Repair Disk" to check and correct any directory problems.  That will not erase any data files on the disc.  If Disk Utility actually makes repairs, do another "Repair Disk" operation, as sometimes one repair will uncover another error.  Stop when it gives the volume a clean bill of health without making any repairs.  Then restart the machine and see how things work.

If I log in my Account on my mac, nodes is always starting. Nodes is not in start objects... Has anybody an idea how to fix this issue?

    See this discussion.
    Apps open after boot
If that doesn't work, try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Trackpoint in Thinkpad X121e not always working

    Hi,
my Lenovo Thinkpad X121e runs with ArchLinux x86_64 and all packages updated (no testing versions). All worked fine, but since a while i have the problem, that the trackpoint sometimes does not work. This occurs randomly at startup. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. If it works, it keeps working all the time the machine is running. If it is not running, after a reboot it will most likely work. This problem seems to occur randomly at about every tenth start of the machine. I remember that the trackpoint did work without problems in the past, but some update in the last few months has killed it. I currently cannot figure out, why this happens.
I attached the dmesg and lsmod output for the working and non-working state of the trackpoint. If you need more info, please ask. I hope someone can help me :-)
    Thanks.
Edit: Added also the Xorg.0.logs for working and non-working states.

OK, ignore my last post pointing the finger at udev.
I poked around in the kernel code; it was actually kinda fun. Now this looks more like either a hardware problem (unlikely) or a driver bug (more likely) to me:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1894892
Thought I'd pass along what I found.
During a boot, the kernel will "walk" all the buses looking for devices. The methods used to find them on some buses (like PCI) are well defined, while others are not (like the serial bus). On those buses that aren't well defined the kernel will (probably) literally "probe" the bus trying to not only find a device, but also determine the exact chip installed.
It's the second case that's involved in your problem. The serio driver found the Synaptics touchpad device (via probing). If you look closely at the kernel log, you'll see it's attached to your i8042 (PS/2) chip.  But... since this touchpad device has a "passthru port", it has to perform extra steps to determine if there's a chip on the "other side" of that touchpad chip. In your case there is, and it's your Trackpoint.
If it's successful in finding the Trackpoint chip, the drivers/input/mouse/trackpoint.c kernel driver file will put the following in your syslog:
IBM TrackPoint firmware: 0x0e, buttons: 3/3
Which is what you see in your logs when it works. Since you don't see it when it fails, then the code probably isn't being executed or it's failing with an error condition.
Now... when a driver finds a device, it usually (but not always) creates some virtual "files" in the /sys directory... and that's what will happen if that trackpoint.c code is executed...
input: TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/serio5/input/input11
So... one question is... "Does it create something in /sys when it fails?". From looking at the code, I highly doubt it.
Although this looks somewhat improbable, if the error path for this section of the code in the trackpoint_detect function of /drivers/input/mouse/trackpoint.c file is executed then it looks like it might match your error:
    psmouse->private = kzalloc(sizeof(struct trackpoint_data), GFP_KERNEL);
    if (!psmouse->private)
    return -ENOMEM;
Perhaps you might want to put some sort of printk call in there to see if that's what's happening. Heck, also add one to the top of the function to see if it's even being called.
    Good luck.

  • Web Intelligence is not always working  well

i found web intelligence is not always working, sometime, when i try to open a document, it takes so long, sometimes, it is fast, sometimes when i try to refresh the report, it gives me error, i am wondering if someone knows what could cause this kind of issue? is it proxy? or something else?

    Tara,
there are many factors that can cause slow performance.  In those cases where it is sometimes fast, it may be due to caching -- another user recently requested the same report and the report is in the server's cache, so instead of running the report from the start it sends the cache to you.  In other cases there may be no cache built up so you get stuck waiting for cache and your report comes up slowly.  There are a couple of techniques for tracking down slow performance, but mostly it happens due to either a database problem or an overworked applications/web server, or poor communication/LAN/Network lines.  Depending on your expertise you'll gravitate to checking that aspect out first and investigating one of the aspects to see where a bottleneck is getting produced.  Another technique is to add -trace to your service startups to add more verbose messages to your logs.  Adding trace will help you to see more of what is going on in the background.  I guess it's a matter of digging in and following your instincts until you can nail down the culprit.
    Thanks,
    John

  • FireFox sometimes crashes when you open it. Not always.

I run Win7 64 bit and have been having intermittent problems where FireFox will crash maybe 5 or 6 times a day when I try to open it. Then other times FireFox opens just fine. I have the mini dump file that was generated as well as the the Event Viewer Errors that show up.
Hopefully these files will be helpful, but I am not sure how to include them in this question.

    See:
    *http://nightly.mozilla.org/
Note that the Aurora (28.0a2) and Nightly (29.0a1) build are updated daily and can be unstable being alpha releases.<br />
You always need to install such a version alongside of the current release via a custom install and use a separate profile for each Firefox version.
Make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished and use the Profile Manager to create a new (separate) profile for each version.<br />
Do a custom install in a different program folder and use the Profile Manager to create a new profile for this version, so make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished.

  • ITunes could not back up the iPhone because a session could not be started with the iPhone

    Hi
I have just updated to iTunes 10.7.(oh it just scrolled off the screen give me 5 minutes for it to come back again) 10.7.0.21 - the latest version
    I run Win7 64bit & during installation i got the blue-screen of death & windows crashed
I went to apple website & downloaded iTunes manually & installed (it tried to install in the (x86) folder as usual, so i forced it into the 64 bit program folder like i always have to do.
It now runs fine but when ever i sync in get the error "iTunes could not back up the '' iPhone because a session could not be started with the iPhone"
I have tried deleting the existing backup as suggested in the forums but that didn't solve the problem, and now i have no backups at all
I have restarted the iPhone & the computer but the error is still the same.
PS i have "Encypt local backup" selected, if i try to unselect that option at the moment it says my password is incorrect, my password is correct, i made a record of it & know exactly what password i used but iTunes is saying it is wrong, is this because i have no backups at the moment or is iTunes completely broken
I have also tried to backup to iCloud as a temporary measure but it says i don't have enough space so must buy some!
    Any help would be appreciated

Could be that iTune can't read your latest backup file. You might have to delete it, follow this article to find out how to delete the backup from the list: iTunes: "Backup could not be saved on the computer" alert message
