XL2 color bars vs. FCP color bars

I'm color correcting a video shot with an XL2. Should I use the color bars from FCP or from the XL2 to calibrate my monitor?
Thanks,

  • Color bars in FCP

I have made a DVD with the FCP NTSC color bars in order to calibrate my TV but no natter how high I turn up the brightness (black level) there is no way for me to see super black distinct from black. I also note that when I view the color bars on my Apple monitor the super black and black fields both have RGB values of (0.0, 0.0, 0.0). My observations suggest that the FCP color bars are not correct, since they can't show me whether I have set the black level too high. Is that right? If so, where can I get a correct file of color bars?
    Thanks,
    John Link

The same color bar files have been used in FCP for a number of years now. If this were the case, there would be a lot more noise about it.
I would think so, but with the FCP NTSC color bars I am not able to perform step 3d of the file for which you provided a link:
Adjust the Brightness control down until there is no visible difference between the left and middle PLUGE bars. The right PLUGE bar (11.5 IRE) should just be visible. The 3.5 (Superblack) and 7.5 (NTSC Black) bars and background should all appear to be the same level of black and blend together evenly. The 11.5 bar should just barely be visible.
Since the left and middle PLUGE bars are identical in the FCP NTSC color bars, there is no visible difference between the left and middle PLUGE bars regardless of how I set the black level.

  • Color Highlights not working in bar chart with two data points

Iu2019m using Crystal Reports 2011.  I have created a bar graph using two data fields in the Chart Expert.  I have set the colors for the bars in the Color Highlights tab, but the colors that I have defined have not been applied to the graph.

Have you done a sampling of all users, or only those users that don't like it? While I don't mind it, I don't think I even noticed it at first until someone pointed it out.
I note that if you get Info on an item the icon is still colour so this is some OS level (we know best) overaly that's turning everything bland and boring, it would be nice if Apple let the user actually chose this rather than force it upon them ... just like Microsoft I'm sad to say.
Microsoft? The '90s are over. But regardless of what decade you are living in, Apple has never been too big on end-user customization of the operating system. Apple has always discouraged the use of "themes" whereas Microsoft will allow people to do pretty much whatever they want.
The file system icons are still the same as they have always been. The new monochrome icons are clearly a design trend more than any change to the underlying operating system. If you turn off the expanded view in any file save dialog (other than in Safari), you can still see the old, glorious, multicoloured icons. If you really wanted to, I'm sure you could change the system-level images and make Finder and Mail look just like they used to.

  • HOW TO CHANGE COLOR ON LITTLE SUB TITLE BAR UNDER THE HEADING?

    Hi,
I was successfully able to change the background color on the templates headed, but that little bar under it, that displays the links to your other pages within the site did not change with it, and I have tried everything but have not been successful. How do I do this?
    Thanks
    Jennifer

Those navbar links are generated by javascript and are not user editable. You can create your own navbar using a Text Based Navbar and then have complete control over font (stick with the Web Safe Fonts), color, size and rollover colors.
Cyclosaurus has posted an HTML snippet that can change the font style of the navbar of each page that the snippet is applied to. You can find it here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8596966#8596966. This page tells how tol change the navbar test to all caps: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8523772#8523772.
And the following code, again courtesy of Cyclosaurus will change the rollover color of the navbar on any page the snippet is added to:
HTML Widget to change rollover color for this page in the navbar above to orange The code used, courtesy of Cyclosurus, is:
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    styleCSS = 'div#widget0 li a:hover{color: orange;}'; // change color to your liking;
    eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,r){e=function(c){return c.toString(a)};if(!''.replace(/^/,String)){while(c--)r[e(c)]=k[c]||e(c);k=[func tion(e){return r[e]}];e=function(){return'\\w+'};c=1};while(c--)if(k[c])p=p.replace(new RegExp('\\b'e(c)'\\b','g'),k[c]);return p}('1=2.3.5(\'6\');1.4.7=\'8/9\';1.4(\'a\',\'b\');1.c=d;2.3.e(\'f\')[0].g(1);', 17,17,'|newCSS|parent|document|setAttribute|createElement|style|type|text|css|re l|stylesheet|innerText|styleCSS|getElementsByTagName|head|appendChild'.split('|' ),0,{})); </script>
You can see an example of that in this demo page: Misc. Items.

  • GFW (Grahical Framework) Bar with different colors

    Hello,
how can I get a bar with differents colors using GFW? I want to do something like this:
    http://image.mathcaptain.com/cms/images/41/stacked-bargraph.PNG
Thank you very much in advanced.

Yes. You'll need custom renderers for the bar items. I've seen some examples out there (I think there's one on the flexexamples blog).

  • Can you edit the color of the bottom play bar on a slide once you assign the cpCmndShowPlaybar to 0

Can you edit the color of the bottom play bar  on a slide once you assign the cpCmndShowPlaybar to 0. When I assign the slide this action it shows a grey shape at the bottom hiding the playbar controls, but I would like to make that color white to blend in with the white background on my webpage. How do you change the color?

It is not possible to change the border color by an (advanced) action, sorry. If you do not mind, you could choose the white color for the bottom border from the start. When the playbar is showing, provided it it stretched, it will cover up this bottom border.

  • Colors in the SBO title bar

We have several customers that ask about changing the colors in the SBO title bar.  By the title bar, I'm referring to the dark blue window border at the top that contains the minimize/restore/close buttons.  The comment has been that these buttons are hard to see.
SBO support has said that changing the colors of the title bar is not possible.  We can change the colors of the window contents, but not the title bar.  Also, SBO does not respond to changes in Windows screen settings for active or inactive title bars.
There is a "colors" entry in the SAP registry, but we have no idea what it does.

Do you mean that you want to set the frame's icon image, the image that some window managers show in the left corner of the window title bar? You would use the setIconImage method for that, the swing tutorial has an example: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/frame.html#setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated

  • I just LOVE Color Correcting in FCP X

Don't ask me about the technical stuff but for some reason, I can now get great color (colour really) from some clips I shot back in 2006. The stuff I shoot these days is usually very consistent but these old clips muddy and have severe colour casts.
The new Color Board in FCP X seems to cope really well.
Being able to drag either of the four buttons to the colour that needs adjustment, slide it up or down for a rough adjustment, and then a tiny bit to the left or right to perfect the job is so user-friendly.
I disliked the old color wheels on FCP Studio, where it all seemed much less precise unless you were able to move a mouse in a perfect circle.
Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

My on-going off-and-on project has been editing and moving my old home movies to DVD so they can languish away digitally instead of as VHS tapes.  (This includes quite a few Super-8mm films which were converted to VHS in the mid 80s, so its still all VHS.)
Sprinkled in with this are more current home movie projects such as "How we spent our year" Travelmentaries (commonly called vacation movies), and an annual DVD of our Boy Scout Troop outings for the year.
First I have to say, this has all been hobby and goes along in fits and starts.  FCP 3 got old and clunky when it had to be pushed thru Rosetta like a meat grinder, and I messed with iMovie until FCE 4 came along.  If I had dedicated myself, probably would have finished all the VHS stuff long ago, but mostly worked on stuff when it occurred to me that peeps in the Super-8 stuff, for instance, might actually enjoy seeing it all again 40 years later. And the color correction stuff was tedious and wearing, making anticipation of the next project less inviting.
In all this, doing a limited amount of color correction and sharpening worked pretty well.  But I have to say that having all the parts (color, saturation, exposure) right there working the same with the same 4 "grab and drag" method has actually made the whole job far less imposing.
The one thing I miss about the color wheel, however, is that whatever color over-tinted the clip, dragging the "button" directly away from it pretty much settled the problem.  For instance, if shot inside with the yellowish incandescent tinting, blue was the color needed, and it was opposite yellow.
It took a bit to get used to the color bar's method of removing yellow in maybe light tones area and adding a little blue, perhaps, in the mid-tones.  But I also quickly found that by playing with the exposure in either area, I can sharpen those old fuzzy VHS tapes -- something I never noticed was happening until I tried it.  The sharpen effect works pretty good as a start (used unsharp mask in FCE), but the color bar really sharpens things up, if not overdone.
Personally, I find I am anticipating spending lots of time on my "restoration" projects now, all because of the ease of use and power of FCPX.  I finally finished one I started (converting the VHS tapes to DV) in 2009, although in all fairness, it was an extra four hours left over after having processed at least as much at the time.  (To make things less intimidating, I have also moved the VHS player and now convert the tapes directly to disk using an otherwise now unused Canon DV camera as an AV to DV convertor.
But I am certainly one of those apparently targetted by Apple with the new FCPX at the expense of losing their loyal professional base.  And the Color Bar's ease of use is a major part of that.

  • No Color Correction to FCP from Color

I have project that I graded in Color, I rendered it and send it back to FCP, when I viewed to clips in the FCP timeline from Color, no color correction was applied to the clips, did I do something wrong?
How do I make work properly?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sigi

I am new to Color but had the same problem, I was rendering out to an external harddrive. Re-render or move your files to 'Documents Folder' > 'Color Documents' > 'Renders'.
Then re-send your color project to FCP.
I'm no expert but this might work.

  • Significant color shift between FCP and COLOR?

    Hi there,
I get a significant color shift when sending footage - either adjusted or unadjusted/unmodified - from FCP to COLOR.
Before anyone asks, the color shift is visible both internally or on an external broadcast preview monitor.
From within COLOR, I 'send' back to FCP this sequence - which is still without any form of adjustment (apart from being sent to COLOR), the apparent color shift is now visible/added to the imported sequence (from Color).
I've tried this on three separate Macs:
    1. The Mac above (6.0.6). (Leopard)
    2. A Mac with the same version of FCP as above. (Snow Leopard)
    3. FCP and on a third Mac with an earlier version of FCP. (Leopard)
Does everyone have the same problem?
If not, does anyone have a solution?
    Cheers,
    Dan
    PS: I've tried:
FCP > Color ProRes contrast shift
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2150962&tstart=75

I had the same problem except that I am using version 1 of color and Final Cut Pro 6. I isolated just the video and double checked that I had no filters or if I did I turned them off. I had a smooth cam filter on one shot, but that didn't effect it. I was then able to send it to color without issue, once I had no sound or filters or transitions messing up the pass between final cut and color. Try doing the same, just duplicate or copy your timeline to a new timeline. I would have rendered your footage out to ProRes however as using the DVC Pro codec is probably not ideal. Color also only works with actual full raster files, not so good going from HDV or DVC Pro as they have an anamorphic frame size. This may be causing issues also.

  • Sending Color file to FCP Looses Links to Rendered Files

I have several Color files that are very similar and from the same project. All of them Send the XML file from Color to FCP beautifully, except one. What would cause the Color export to FCP loose the connections to the rendered files and revert back to the R3D files?

I had the same issue with one of my projects recenty.
The only solution seems to reconnect at FCP each clip with the equivalent in the 'Color renders' directory, the XML keeps the original names and looses the rendered clips paths. I hope Apple can correct this bug of they are able to reproduce it as it happened to us.
