Xls output opening in browser not excel

Hi,
I have created a report through PeopleSoft xml publisher that outputs xls. When I try to preview the report from the rtf template, it correctly displays in excel. However, when I now ran this through the process monitor and open the report in the report manager the report even though it is in .xls opens up in the IE browser.
Is there a configuration needed in order for the report to open in MS Excel ?

I had the same problem a couple of years back.

I have an app that I'm just doing some minor updates on after having successfully published it to both Google and Apple's app stores (http://flashgamer.com/apps/ ). The app consists of several lists and UI-elements done in Flash and will eventually display a HTML page in a StageWebView control.
This latter part no longer works on iOS. Rather than displaying the supplied string in the StageWebView control, the app now opens the browser to http://adobe.122121_instert_funky_number_here_42423423.apollo.air/
What's up with this? Only major change on my machine is that I've updated XCode from 3.x to 4.2. Does this matter?

Since updating to FireFox 9.1 everytime I open my browser, not only is my persona gone but I also get the "Hooray! Your FireFox is up to date" page. How do I fix these things?

Everytime I close my browser and have to restart it, not only do I lose the Persona I was using, but I also get the welcome to Mozilla page in a tab along with my homepage. It is getting quite annoying.

It might be a pref.js issue. These should give you all the information you need!
If that doesn't work:
# Type about:config in the address bar
# Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
# In the Filter input field type ''startup''
# Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
# Delete the text string and click ''OK''
# Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.

XML report publisher doesnt open in Excel directly but opens in Browser

I have run a seeded FSG report with XML as output option and then ran XML report publisher to this request with Output as EXCEL but When I click the View Output button the output opens in Browser. I want it to open in EXCEL.
How to do this?

Open Control Panel
Open Folder Options
Click File Types
Locate "XLS Microsoft Excel Worksheet" -- Tip: Quickly scroll to items beginning with 'X' by pressing the 'X' key on the keyboard.
Click the Advanced button.
Highlight the default action (often Open), which is bold.
Check the box that says "Confirm open after download" and if "Browse in the same window" is checked, uncheck it.
Click Ok.

Is it possible to open up an excel file inside a Web Browser not IE?

I'm trying to find out if it is possible to open up a pivot excel file inside the a web browser, but i don't want to use Internet Explorer for that i'd prefer firefox for that.
I have a web application that uses an excel file for one of its reports but i don't want the user to have to download the file in order to view the report and that particular report has various ordering criteria so i don't want any of the funtionality of the file to be lost in the process, so is it possible to do it? what tools would help me acomplish that?

I don't think this is possible.
You may be able to make it display in Firefox if the file is defined as the XML Excel format and not the xls or xlsx formats. But that would require saving the file differently and you would most likely loose all/most functionality
You may find some Excel translators in Java (most notably POI from Apache). But they would still require you to adapt them to web format and you would have to duplicate much of the Excel functionality yourself. So it would be a long term option.
You could check out Google Docs. They have a spreadsheet application that I believe can convert Excel files to their format. You may be able to use it inside your web site with permissions.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

Open Text output of a Report in Excel - Bad format

Hi All,
We have a report in Oracle Apps 11i(11.5.10) with Text as output format. We would like to open the file in Excel format.
We have done the recommended setups from the metalink note ID 316752.1.
Output is generated in Excel, but the format is not proper. Column level data is not displayed on Cell wise in the Excel, instead all the output is
dispalyed in single column in the Excel.
Any pointers on how to format the output to align each column in the output to the individual cell in the Excel.
Or else.. how to generate the output to Excel file?

Word document does not open in browser

I have a SharePoint 2013 On-Premise Deployment. I have several sites and in each site is a document library which contains docx, xlsx and pdf. All client machines have Office 2013 installed.
I want all file types to open in browser. I have change the document library settings to only open in browser and the site-collection feature "Open word in client" is disabled.
All xlsx and pdf open in the browser however docx do not. They open in Office Word. This is the same for both IE and Chrome.
What can I do to make docx open in the browser?

In SharePoint 2010, Office Web Apps was an service application, now In SharePoint 2013 it is a separate product, it has to installed on separate server and configured the settings in SharePoint 2013 server to open in the web browser.
Without configuring Office Web apps, you can still open Excel application in Web browser. This is due to the Excel Services service application.
In SharePoint Online(Office 365), office web apps is installed and configured automatically, you don't have to do anything on this front.
Whereas in SharePoint 2013 On-premises, you need to take care of installing and configuring Office Web apps.

Report not producing output in web browser

Hi, I am currently in the process of setting up a development machine with weblogic, forms & reports. I have installed a default install of the products and forms is working a treat but i am having a bit of a mare with reports. I have set the reports_path in the registry, opened and compiled a report and passed it through to the run paper layout option and done a print preview and the report works fine.
My problem is when I select the run web layout option, in that nothing is generated ie no output in the browser. When the created output file is check in the WLS_REPORTS\tmp\_WL_user\reports_11.1.1.2.0\uqanoi\war classic home the file has not content.
I have converted the rdf file to a jsp file and both are in the reports_path
What am I missing??

Since Reports 9.0.2 , there are 2 layouts :
- The Paper layout
- The Web layout
Paper Layout is identical to the Layout in previous versions (.. , 2.5 ,6.0 6i)
The Web Layout must be created if you want to see something when executing the run web layout option.

XML output directly opens in browser

Hi,
I'm using OAS 10g R2. We are generating all reports with PDF output directly in browser. For some of them we implemented Excel Output but it doesn't work very well. After that, we deployed Excel Output through Rep2Excel but has problems too.
Finally, we opted to generate reports with XML output, using DesFormat=XML and DesType=CACHE. We want this output to be opened directly in Microsoft Excel, but the browsers (Firefox or IE) open that directly so users have to save the output as a XML file and then open them with Excel.
Does any one know any way that output can be directed to Excel without this additional step?
