XLS vs XLT on Windows Server 2012 running CF 10 using (don't say it!) IE

Has anyone else run into a problem with downloading XLT files in this environment that produce a "your file may be corrupted" window when you choose Open, then has Enable Editing button which, if clicked, shows a corrupted file?
Yet XLS of the same file (produced from the same XLT) opens up just fine and dandy with no need to enable editing?
Were you able to solve this somehow?

So, I've managed to research this some more since Thursday and I've come to the conclusion that Hyper-V does a horrible job of supporting Qualcomm NIC cards. That's the only thing I can conclude as far as where the issue is originating. I've read many
post and walkthroughs but nothing that has helped. The issue wasn't with any settings in the domain controller. The issue was that there really is a slow connection originating at the domain controller that is a VM and has network connectivity through the
virtual switch from Hyper-V. So, next question is, how do I get the DC to have better connectivity through the NIC that Hyper-V won't give it? If hyper-v would allow passthrough, this would be so much simpler. VM-ware is looking really good at this point.
Im disappointed in MS right now.

  • Installing Windows Server 2012 in Order to Use SharePoint Server and Develop in VS2012

    Hi.
I need to install SharePoint Server so that I can work with SP Designer and have full options for development using VS2012.  Apparently, I also need to Install Windows Server 2012.  I would like to install and configure WS2012 in a virtual environment
using the Hyper-V tools that come with Windows 8 Pro.  I'm a newbie when it comes to WS2012, and want to make sure I don't end up reformatting my Windows 8 hard drive or causing a similar event that would put me in a rubber room.
I downloaded the WS2012 image file, but am unsure how to proceed.  Can anyone give me some help as to how to get started?
    Thanks.
    Bugless

    Hi,
If you have enabled the Hyper-V role on Windows 8 then you can create Windows Server 2012 VM's.  As Server 2012 has the Hyper-V tools build in by default there is no need to install them.
So enable the Hyper-V role on Windows, Create a new VM in Hyper-V management console and connect the cd/dvd drive in the VM properties to the Windows Server 2012 setup ISO file. Start the VM and the Server 2012 setup. (during creating a VM you can also
connect the cd/dvd drive to an ISO file)
You might want to give to the Server 2012 VM 2 vCPU's and 2GB+ memory for performance. Also have a look the memory specs for VS2012 to see how much memory you should give to the VM.

  • Windows Home Server vs. Windows Server 2012

I have used Windows Home Server 2011 but I have problems with connections and backups. Is Windows Server 2012 more reliable to use with computer backups?
    Nikorios

    Hello,
i suggest that you ask in
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/home?category=windowshomeserver about the backup problems you have.
Also for the connection problem ask there. For me this sounds as a configuration problem.
I am pretty sure that the Server itself is able to run backups and connections.

  • Unable to install Client Tools for Sybase ASE 15.7 on Windows Server 2012 64-Bit

    Hello Folks,
I just downloaded the client tools package from https://support.sap.com/swdc --> Installation and Upgrades --> A-Z list --> SAP ADAPTIVE SERVER ENTERPRISE --> SYBASE ASE 15.7 --> Installation --> Microsoft Windows --> 51044415.zip
I'm trying to install the client tools for a newly provisioned Windows 2012 64-Bit machine. After unzipping the folder and running autorun, the installation does not proceed. When I go to pcclient64 and run either setup.exe or setupConsole.exe, I get the error "This Application has Unexpectedly Quit, Invocation of this Java Application has caused an InvocationTargetException. This application will now exit. (LAX)". I stumbled across various posts on the forum, and it appears that the installer is not certified for Windows Server 2012. I tried using the compatibility mode for Windows 7, and it proceeds further and launches the SAP GUI; however, it closes afterwards.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    51044415 is a PC-Client 15.7 refresh.
You are using a version that was not certified with Windows 2012. Get the most current version PC-Client 15.7 SP130 or SDK 15.7 SP130 or SP132.
If your looking for PC-Client5.7 SP130 look for EBF23439
We didn't get certified with Windows 2012 until SDK 15.7 ESD#6 even with that I reported a few minor issues.
You need the following on the machine before the installation.
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) (or dsedit and ocscfg will not work)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64) (or dsedit and ocscfg will not work)

  • [Forum FAQ] How to install and configure Windows Server Essentials Experience role on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard via PowerShell locally and remotely

    As we all know,
the Windows Server Essentials Experience role is available in Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter. We can add the Windows Server
Essentials Experience role in Server Manager or via Windows PowerShell.
In this article, we introduce the steps to install and configure Windows
Server Essentials Experience role on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard via PowerShell locally and remotely. For better analyze, we divide this article into two parts.
Before installing the Windows Server Essentials Experience Role, please use
    Get-WindowsFeature
PowerShell cmdlet to ensure the Windows Server Essentials Experience (ServerEssentialsRole) is available. (Figure 1)
    Figure 1.
Part 1: Install Windows Server Essentials Experience role locally
Add Windows Server Essentials Experience role
Run Windows PowerShell as administrator, then type
Add-WindowsFeature ServerEssentialsRole cmdlet to install Windows Server Essentials Experience role. (Figure 2)
    Figure 2.
Note: It is necessary to configure Windows Server Essentials Experience (Post-deployment Configuration). Otherwise, you will encounter following issue when opening Dashboard.
    (Figure 3)
    Figure 3.
      2. Configure Windows Server Essentials Experience role
    (1)  In an existing domain environment
Firstly, please join the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard computer to the existing domain through the path:
    Control Panel\System\Change Settings\”Change…”\Member of. (Figure 4)
    Figure 4.
After that, please install Windows Server Essentials Experience role as original description. After installation completed, please use the following command to configure Windows
    Server Essentials:
    Start-WssConfigurationService –Credential <Your Credential>
    Note: The type of
Your Credential should be as: Domain-Name\Domain-User-Account.
You must be a member of the Enterprise Admin group and Domain Admin group in Active Directory when using the command above to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 5)
    Figure 5.
Next, you can type the password for the domain account. (Figure 6)
    Figure 6.
After setting the credential, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 7)
    Figure 7.
By the way, you can use
    Get-WssConfigurationStatus
    PowerShell cmdlet to
get the status of the configuration of Windows Server Essentials. Specify the
ShowProgress parameter to view a progress indicator. (Figure 8)
    Figure 8.
    (2) In a non-domain environment
Open PowerShell (Run as Administrator) on the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and type following PowerShell cmdlets: (Figure 9)
Start-WssConfigurationService -CompanyName "xxx" -DNSName "xxx" -NetBiosName "xxx" -ComputerName "xxx” –NewAdminCredential $cred
    Figure 9.
After you type the commands above and click Enter, you can create a new administrator credential. (Figure 10)
After creating the new administrator credential, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 11)
After a reboot, all the configurations will be completed and you can open the Windows Server Essentials Dashboard without any errors. (Figure 12)
    Figure 12.

Part 2: Install and configure Windows Server Essentials Experience role remotely
    In an existing domain environment
In an existing domain environment, please use following command to provide credential and then add Server Essentials Role: (Figure 13)
    Add-WindowsFeature -Name ServerEssentialsRole
    -ComputerName xxx -Credential DomainName\DomainAccount
    Figure 13.
After you enter the credential, it will start install Windows Server Essentials role on your computer. (Figure 14)
    Figure 14.
After the installation completes, it will return the result as below:
    Figure 15.
    Next, please use the
    Enter-PSSession
cmdlet and provide the correct credential to start an interactive session with a remote computer. You can use the commands below:
    Enter-PSSession –ComputerName
    xxx –Credential DomainName\DomainAccount (Figure 16)
    Figure 16.
Then, please configure Server Essentials Role via
Add-WssConfigurationService cmdlet and it also needs to provide correct credential. (Figure 17)
    Figure 17.
After your credential is accepted, it will update and prepare your server. (Figure 18)
    Figure 18.
After that, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 19)
    Figure 19.
    2. In a non-domain environment
In my test environment, I set up two computers running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and use Server1 as a target computer. The IP addresses for the two computers are as
    below:
    Sevrer1: 192.168.1.54
    Server2: 192.168.1.53
    Run
    Enable-PSRemoting –Force on Server1. (Figure 20)
    Figure 20.
Since there is no existing domain, it is necessary to add the target computer (Server1) to a TrustedHosts list (maintained by WinRM) on Server 2. We can use following command
    to
    add the TrustedHosts entry:
    Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts IP-Address
    (Figure 21)
    Figure 21.
    Next, we can use
    Enter-PSSession
cmdlet and provide the correct credential to start an interactive session with the remote computer. (Figure 22)
    Figure 22.
After that, you can install Windows Server Essentials Experience Role remotely via Add-WindowsFeature ServerEssentialsRole cmdlet. (Figure 23)
    Figure 23.
From figure 24, we can see that the installation is completed.
    Figure 24.
    Then you can use
Start-WssConfigurationService cmdlet to configure Essentials Role and follow the steps in the first part (configure Windows Server Essentials Experience in a non-domain environment) as the steps would be the same.
The figure below shows the status of Windows Server Essentials.
    Figure
    25.
Finally, we have successfully configured Windows Server Essentials on Server1. (Figure 26)
    Figure 26.

  • Windows Server 2012 Hangs After a While

    Good day,
My server hangs after a while then I have to hard boot it. I get the error 'Online data retrieval occurs under all my roles. Once I reboot it then the error disappears.
    Please help!!
    Thanks,
    Mao

First of all, you would need to make sure that your server meets the hardware requirements to run Windows Server 2012 + the applications you use.
For Windows Server 2012 System Requirements, you can refer to that: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303418.aspx
You can also proceed like the following:
Install available Windows Updates (To be tested first)
Install recent versions of your drivers, firmware and BIOS
    Uninstall all unused programs
    Run chkdsk /r /f and sfc /scannow
    Do a clean boot
If this does not help then you can temporary disable security software in use and try again.

  • Windows Server 2012 Fax Server - Route Incoming Fax By Number?

I don't think we can do this, but I am going to ask anyway. At one site we have a Windows Server 2012 running the built in fax service. It works just fine.
The customer has several unused 0845 numbers which are routed to a single landline for inbound fax, and would like to publish these 0845 numbers as fax numbers for different departments.
Each 0845 number will still terminate at the same landline for inbound fax and so we would like, if possible, to set inbound fax rules to route faxes to different email addresses depending upon the 0845 number to which they have been sent.
My guess is that we can't do it with the built in service, or can we? and even if we had a premium fax server we may not be able to do it.
The fax server is running an old skool USR serial modem.

  • Incoming Email on Windows Server 2012

    Windows Server 2012:
SMTP and the associated management tools are deprecated. Though the functionality is still available in Windows Server 2012, you should begin using System.Net.Smtp. With this API, you will not be able to insert a message into a file for pickup; instead configure
Web applications to connect on port 25 to another server using SMTP.
    Question:
If this is the case, is there a TechNet article that has instructions for installing/using incoming email on a SharePoint 2013 web front end?
    What I know:
Why do we install deprecated features http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263260 (Plan incoming email for a SharePoint farm in SharePoint 2013) to make this work?
    What to do:
I want to use the basic scenario for incoming email, but with the information above about Windows Server it looks rather like idiotic to follow those directions in the TechNet article.
    How to do this:
"... instead configure Web applications to connect on port 25 to another server using SMTP." Huh? Oh stupid me!
    Thoughts???
NOTE: We do use Exchange for incoming email.
    Chris

You will need to continue to use the IIS6 SMTP Virtual Server for SharePoint incoming email. I'm sure by the time the feature is dropped, the SharePoint group will have an alternate solution.

  • Windows Server 2012 won't stream to a Windows 7 computer

I have a windows 7 computer and I built a windows server using windows server 2012. I am using it mainly to store and stream movies. I have the media pack installed that would allow me to stream but when I try to steam it from the server to my laptop it
does not stream it just wants to download it. I am clicking on the file under media, and it pops up with a new window like it is about to play with the play in the middle of the screen then goes away and asks if I want to download it. I cant find an answer
out and was wondering if anyone knew what was going on. I also have a windows 8 laptop and it will stream to that just fine so I know I have the streaming set up but just dont know why it wont stream to my windows 7 computer. Any ideas?

    This one might help.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 License Concerns

    Hi,
    Good day.
This is my first post, hopefully I am in the right forum to ask.
I have recently transferred to a new job on a new company. There would be various projects also endorsed. One of them are upgrading of legacy IBM servers OS. They have already bought the latest Windows Server OS which is Windows Server 2012 R2 version.
But during the transition the upgrade of OS was given to me, during the upgrade of IBM x346 server there were multiple issues raised (RAID drivers for x64). I was only able to install Windows 2012 Standard version, but our license only have Windows Server 2012
    R2.
Can I use the license of Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2012? I do understand we have downgrade rights from Win2k12R2 to various OS like 2k8, 2k12 or 2k8 R2. But this is not a downgrade process. Can I simply input the product key to activate Windows
    Server 2012 with Windows Server 2012 R2?
Hope you understand my question. Thank you.

If you have purchased the license for WS2012R2, but wish to install WS2012, this is considered a "downgrade" of the license, and, this is usually a permitted entitlement. (it is not necessary to perform the technical installation of WS2012R2 and
then technically install WS2012 - it is permitted to "clean-install" WS2012)
To exercise this "downgrade right", confirm your entitlement to do so, and the entitled version/edition (via your licensing agreement).
You will then need to acquire the installation media for the desired version/edition, and also, acquire the specific license product key to do so.
You can acquire the relevant product key by telephoning Microsoft Product Activation Centre, and explain your scenario, that you wish to exercise your "downgrade rights" - you will be provided with a one-time-use Product Key for this purpose.
Or, have I misunderstood your question?

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 hangs at a certain timing.

    Hello all,
I have a server (Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition) using Hyper-V manager. It is hosting Live VMs now. For two Saturdays in a row, it hangs at a certain timing early morning at around 3am. There are two events that i seen, one of them is event 6008
and the other is event 41. Both of them doesn't seems to tell me anything after i googled for these events.
There is no dump files being created even though it is configured to do so. I have checked the scheduler but i also found nothing.
Anybody have any idea on how to troubleshoot and prevent that from happening?

  • Provisioning Windows Server 2012 R2 takes long time

I created a simple bluerpint with one Windows Server 2012 R2 machine and using Linked Clone deployment in vCAC. The entire provisioning process is taking a very long time (> 1 hour). It looks like most of the time is spent in CustomizeOS work flow step. What could be the issue? I didn't find any logs to figure out where it's spending time. Can you help me fix this issue?

I was able to fix this issue. There is a new Guest Agent for Windows Server 2012 R2. See VCAC 6.0.1 Windows 2012 guest agent stuck

  • Windows Server 2012 R2. Redirecting the "All apps" part of the Modern UI

I am building a new Remote Desktop Session Host-solution based on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I am using the new Startcreen layout export function to define the start screen. It Works like a charm. The Next step is then to configure the "Apps" page of the Modern UI. On a similar solution based on Windows Server 2012, this was done
by redirection the Start Menu folder within the GPO.
But the Folder Redirection feature does not seem to Work on Windows Server 2012 R2. My "Apps" page look like this:
Not what I want to present for the users!
Have you experienced this? And do you have a solution for this. I am stuck!
    Regards,
    Thomas

    Hi,
Firstly, the screenshot is broken, would you please check it.
Meanwhile, we can refer to this article to customize the Start Screen.

  • App cannot run on Windows Server 2012 R2

I have an application that runs well on Windows Server 2012. The application has two editions 32-bit and 64-bit, both are from the same code base.
However, on Windows Server 2102 R2, the x64 version of the application works, but the 32-bit version does not run. Invoking the 32-bit of the application generates the "This app cannot run on you PC" message.
I tried the compatibility troubleshooting, and it does not help.
Any suggestion on what could be the problem?
    Thanks.
