XM Radio Online

I have a new Mac and have tried to use my XM Radio online. The problem seems to be the Flip4Mac plug in which I uninstalled and reinstalled. I worked with Mozilla tech who tried the plug in on his Mac and his did not work either. Anyone else having this issue, and is there a work around?

Hey iBradly,
Just to save you some time, I tried opening the page with the latest Firefox Beta (which gave me the raw XML code of the site), Camino 0.8 (which also gave me the raw XML code), Opera (which allowed me to fill in the form but not select a state from the drop down), and Safari (which doesn't allow anything due to their site currently being IE only).
I even tried the debug menu in Safari for Windows IE and Mac IE. Neither worked. However, the actual Internet Explorer applications for OS X did work and you're able to fill the form out properly.
If for some reason it doesn't work for you or you don't want to use IE for the Mac (can't blame ya!), then you can call XM @ 1-800-XM-RADIO and activate by phone. Be sure to tell them the site is doesn't work on a Mac and you want the online activation rate of $10 instead of the over the phone rate of $15 (assuming you have to activate the radio - I'm not entirely sure how the free trial periods work).
Good luck!

  • XM Radio Online Doesn't Connect

Does anyone know how to get XM Radio to work within Safari? The Windows Media Player plug-in tries to connect but never does. I tried the Flip4Mac plug-in and got the same non-result. Essentially the XM Widget behaves the same except that it occasionally connects after a really long wait and other times generates error messages.
The AOL radio player actually does work but does not offer all of the XM channels.
An iTunes solution would be the ultimate right way to go but I haven't seen any way to do that either.
Quick Silver   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

I do not believe XM is fully compatible with Safari.
The XM Radio Online portion of the site is compatible. The rest of the site is horrible for Macs though.
Are you getting a -2048 error message with Flip4Mac (I believe that's the error number)? Also, make sure you're using the latest version of the OS as well as the latest version of Flip4Mac. Both work fine for me.
Also, you might want to try my application, ThisWeekOnXM which eliminates the need to open Safari for listening to XM Radio Online.
As per Apple's TOS, I won't receive any benefit from you downloading my application unless you choose to donate, which is entirely in your hands.

  • Listening to radio online!

I have been trying in vain to listen to radio online.... I like to listen to BBC Radio 2 and some of the commercial american stations (Power 96).... A strange combination I know.
Anyhow. It is proving nigh impossible to get my music fix. Either the live player is based on microsoft media player. Or the patch that is required only runs with windows....
I got a mac to escape the pains of windows.. How can I listen to radio without going back to the devil (windows)?
    James

Maybe the Flip4Mac plugin for Quicktime will allow you to listen to those streams?

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • Streaming live radio online

Hi, Does anyone know how I can get my Macbookpro (Mac OS X 10.5.4) to stream live radio stations online? I particularly want to be able to listen to radio stations from Rio de Janeiro but I can't seem to get any to work. I've tried downloading Windows Media for Macs and Stuff it! Expander to open it but this doesn't seem to work.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    >>but my main concern is how to get urls of live streaming of various radio stations.
You will need to use your favor search engine to find more radio stations. This forum is to discuss windows phone development, it’s out of our support range.

  • XM Radio online Activation w/ Safari

Has anyone else tried to activate an XM Radio account online using Safari? I just tried and it wouldn't work. I can tab around to the different fields i.e. Name, address, email etc... but the drop-down for State is grayed out. Also, the submit/cancel buttons at the bottom of the form are "non clickable." I tried with both Firefox and Netscape 7.2 for Mac, but both simply return a jumble of html code. I figured as much since they both run off the same engine.
Anyways... So I wrote XM and complained how they should really have their web developers make their site more OS/browser compatable.
I just get so frustrated when web sites are so in bed with IE! Down with IE!!
Ok, I just needed to vent, thanks for listening.

  • WMP And XM Radio online

    Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone here has got xm satelite radio to stream. I was able to listen to xm online with the WMP plug-in in safari and netscape, suddenly it stopped working. Tried downloading firefox still doesn't work. Uninstalled WMP installed flip4mac still nothing. Keep getting error message "File cannot be opened. Verify path and file name are correct and try again." Have even tried the widget. XM hasn't been any help. Anyone have any ideas.
    Thanks

Sorry for the delay Eric, but I'm still trying to figure out these forums, which have now grown with the Intel thing.
So let's see...... It's the XM radio problem again Eh?? You're getting the same error message I used to get. In fact, I got that error message again today (when trying to play the Widget) and thought of you. I just loaded the Widget again, and relogged into XM, and it worked. Broke a sweat though worring about it again for that 15 seconds.
I did so many things I'm not sure what exactly solved my problems. That "Audacity" program was the main problem I know for a fact. Audacity even knocked out my keyboard volume control once.
    1. Do you have the Widget loaded, and it used to work?
    2. Can you just go to the XM site and will that play?
    3. Did you remember to go into Apps.- utilities- MIDI, and make sure that the audio output is no higher than 44100Hz's??
    4. What about calling XM and having them reset your password??
My XM now works by typing in the XM address via both Safari, and from that XM Widget thing (which I can't remember where I got it from).
I'm now using the Xitel Pro HIFI link and routing all (not just iTunes) computer sound (when I want to switch off internal speakers) to my home audio system via the usb port. It's great! Remember, we talked of Xitel before.
So Eric, I guess I'm not sure what else to tell you. I feel that if you don't know what to do..... We are all screwed, ..... As you are the one who always seem to know how to fix the problems.
Good Luck, and let me know how you are doing with this issue.

  • Erase and Install 10.2.8 -- Now I Can't Listen to Radio Online

After watching my hard disk space dwindle to almost nothing, and after trying unsuccessfully to repair disk permissions, etc., I did an erase and install. Things seem much better, except now I can't listen to radio/music online. I guess I need a plugin such as Flip4Mac, only they don't work with 10.2.8. Any ideas how I can get this to work again?
    Thanks in advance.

Ok. It does work for me. It launches the Quicktime player, and the name of the stream is "streamasx_WAAF.asx", which is a container for Windows Media audio files. What I'm thinking is that maybe your Mac doesn't know what to do with asx files any longer -- that the link between file type and application has been broken. Have you tried allowing Quicktime to play all the file formats that it knows about? You could also snag the Preference pane MoreInternet and set up the association between asx and Quicktime that way. If that fails, you could try reinstalling Quicktime, or whatever other programs you have that play streaming media (like RealPlayer or Windows Media player). One of those should work.

I can see there is an apparent issue with the Library and the version of Flip4Mac it contains. I'm not very confident poking around in the directories without some guidance. Any suggestions?

  • Problems with Flip4Mac and/or listening to XM Online Radio

    Hello,
I recently started using an intel-based iMac OS 10.5.2. My previous computer was a PowerPC G5 operating on 10.4. On the previous computer I was able to log in and listen to XM Radio Online without any hassle. I could listen via either Firefox or Safari. And I didn't have Flip4Mac installed. The XM Online browser would simply display a miniature version of Windows Media Player and it worked fine.
As with the G5, I tried launching the XM player on the intel iMac with only Windows Media Player installed. This time (with both Safari and Firefox) I was instructed to download and install the Flip4Mac codec. However, doing this merely launches a small pop-up audio player in quicktime. Nothing happens when the play button is hit (in both browsers). And I've already Repaired the Permissions as well and still no luck.
    Any help is appreciated.

Yes I have used XM online, and I've always had difficulties getting it to play, even going back to Tiger.
I was just trying to point out there's a general case bug when using the Flip4Mac player with any WMV stream or video that it can go into a tight loop and suck up CPU resources until you quit Safari, though according to Telestream that's been fixed in version 2.2.0.49R of their plugin, available for download here.

  • Sirius Internet Radio doesn't work after Snow Leopard

Sirius Internet Radio doesn't work after I installed Snow Leopard. It works on my Firefox. I emptied the cache on my Safari, but still nothing. Any solutions?

The reason why Sirius Radio online won't work with Safari anymore is because Sirius radio online is only supported by a 32-bit browser. Snow Leopard and all its applications are 64-bit. The best solution is to use firefox. If you still insist on using safari..... Go to adobe.com reinstall adobe flash player. Install/update Flip4Mac. Go to setting for Flip4Mac and check off all the options under the browser tab. Then when you go into Sirius Radio online, you will get an error message, just click okay. Then when you click a station, a quicktime player will come up and you will be able to listen to sirius online radio.

  • How to listen to FM online on Safari?

Hi, please help me to listen to my favourite FM radio online. I'm from Malaysia and i love the local FM stations. When i try to listen, it says " Safari cannot find the internet plug-in. The page _ has content of MIME type "application/x-oleobject". How do i solve this? I tried Mozilla but same thing....
After reading some answers from discussions first, i tried installing the trial Flip4Mac but no results. Maybe i didn't install it correctly.
I'm so proud of my new Mac but being unable to do this simple thing has my pro-Windows family members laughing at me!
Thanx in advance for your help!!!

    Hi
    Flip4Mac provides the MIME type
go to Safari > Help > Installed Plug-ins and check under "Flip4Mac Windows Media Web Plugin 2.1.2" that it is installed
If it is then open System Preferences > Other > Flip4Mac WMV and check your settings against the manual in the Applications > Flip4Mac folder
    Otherwise reload and install

  • Can I add radio stations to iTunes?

Thanks Ryan, but how in the name of our dear lord in heaven do I add a radio station to a smart playlist.
All I have is the URL:
    http://www.garnierstreamingmedia.com/asx/radio538.asp
    So no drag+drop.

Baltimore, Maryland Yes, you can add radio stations to iTunes. However, you cannot add the radio stations to the “Radio” source in the source list. You only have the ability to add radio stations into the “Library” source.
You can always make a Smart Playlist, though, and name it something such as “My Radio Stations” or a name of your choice. What this will do is organize all of your personal radio stations that are not listed in the "Radio" source and create easy access and some organization to your downloaded internet radio stations in iTunes. To find internet radio stations, here are a few links:
    • DDance.FM Digital Dance Radio
    • Macstreams/Rogue Amoeba
    • Live365.com
    • UK Radio Stations
    • Shoutcast
    • Radio-Locator (not the best for locating online radio feeds)
There are other sites, of course. When you go to these sites, you will see lists of internet radio stations. To get the station of your choice into iTunes, you will need to download either the .pls, .m3u, or .mp3 file from that station. Once the file has downloaded, find it on your computer and double-click it. This should open iTunes. Note: XM Radio Online will not work for this. If it ever does work, I will update this. Sorry! If not, drag the file into iTunes Library and it will import into your library. Now, onto organizing and creating the Smart Playlist of your internet radio stations.
To create a Smart Playlist based on the internet radio stations you have downloaded, go to File > New Smart Playlist. A window will appear asking you for information. Make sure the “Match the following condition:” box is checked. From the first drop down menu, choose “Kind.” From the second drop down menu, choose “is”. To the right of that is a blank field where you can enter in what kind of file you wish to have in this Smart Playlist. You will want to add “MPEG audio stream” (without quotes) in that field.
Lastly, check the box that says “Live Updating” which will update your Smart Playlist of radio stations when you add more stations to your library. Then whenever you want to listen to your favorite radio station, you can click on that Smart Playlist in the source list and you will see all the internet radio stations you have added to iTunes.
    Enjoy the music!
Note: There is no way of adding an internet radio station to the "Radio" source list in iTunes. Contacting Apple more than likely won't yield a response, but you can list your station on Shoutcast, Live365, RogueAmoeba (links listed above) to be seen and heard by listeners worldwide.
iTunes does not support Windows Media Player format or Real Player One format, so those streams cannot be played through iTunes and must be played through their respective applications.

I read the answer to this question and appreciated the information, but where on the web do you find the sources that were listed - namely:
    • DDance.FM Digital Dance Radio
    • Macstreams/Rogue Amoeba
    • Live365.com
    • UK Radio Stations
    • Shoutcast
    • Radio-Locator (not the best for locating online radio feeds)
I would like to add internet stations, too, but don't know how to find the stations.
